Lancaster Chamber Women In Business students went

to Clare House with their mentors for a field trip. The Clare House serves homeless women and children in a caring environment, through life skills training and support, leading to self-sufficiency.

Host families are needed for several

Nacel Open Door international students who would like to attend LCHS for the upcoming school year 2019-20.

These F-1 visa students speak English, have their own travel health insurance, and bring their own pocket money for personal expenses. Host families provide room and board and receive a generous, monthly hosting stipend.

Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Year after year the Scholastic Awards program grows. With nearly a century of history and a bright future ahead, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have grown to be the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition initiative for creative teens.

This year, students submitted nearly 340,000 works of visual art and writing to the Scholastic Awards; more than 90,000 works were recognized at the regional level and celebrated in local exhibitions and ceremonies. The top art and writing at the regional level were moved onto the national stage, where more than 2,700 students earned National Medals. Only 65 students in Pennsylvania won medals for writing at the national level. Katherine Hollister is one of those for her work “The Smell of a Cigarette.�

National Medalists receive certificates and medals and are considered for national exhibition, publication, and scholarship opportunities. Gold and Special Achievement Award Medalists are also invited to attend the annual National Events week of celebration in New York City.

Works that receive a National Medal are displayed in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards online gallery.

The Scholastic Writing Competition announced the

Lancaster Catholic High School Aevidum will present Food Truck Festival, taking place at LCHS Stadium on Friday, April 26 from 5-8:00 p.m.

The Food Truck Festival will feature 717 Taco, Dougheads Stuffed Waffles, Sittin Pickin Chicken, Buzz Rock n’ Roll Delicatessan, and Scoops.

The Festival will feature corn hole and ladder ball, hair braiding, face painting and live music.

MC’s from our Broadcasting Team, Herbie the Love Bug, and appearances from other special guests.

The culmination of the festival will include the revealing of our “Chain Reaction,” a paper chain that will stretch from end zone to end zone and represent good deeds completed by our faculty, staff, student body, and guests at the festival.

In fulfilling the mission of Aevidum, the festival was created to raise awareness for teen depression, anxiety, and suicide prevention. Informational materials and merchandise will be distributed during the festival.

UnPlanned Movie Premiere Do you really know the truth behind the abortion industry?

Unplanned, a film about Abby Johnson’s transformation from Planned Parenthood director to pro-life advocate will be showing at Penn Cinema, beginning on Friday, March 29.

Supporting this film on its opening weekend is crucial, as ticket sales during the first 72 hours of a film’s release determine if the movie will remain in the theaters for subsequent weeks. Unplanned brings the reality of the abortion industry to the big screen. Please note that the film includes some potentially disturbing content and emotionally intense scenes; it received an R rating from the MPAA. Easter Flower Fundraiser Dear Parents and Friends of LCHS,

Spring is in the air! We, at Lancaster Catholic High School, would like to give you the opportunity to celebrate the Easter season and help those in need at the same time. The Varsity Club is selling spring flowers to raise money for items to be given to those starting out on their own after a temporary stay at the Transitional Living Center, home to Veterans’ Victory House on King Street in Lancaster. We hope to provide blankets, sheets, towels, dishes, and silverware along with other basic needs.

On the order form are descriptions and prices of the flowers available from Stauffers of Kissel Hill. You may choose from tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, and Easter lilies. Please fill out the form and return it to the school to our attention. The form can also be found on the Parents tab on Lancaster Catholic’s website. Checks can be made payable to Lancaster Catholic High School.

Orders will also be collected at our meeting in April. The sale begins on March 20th and ends on April 3rd. Please consider using the plants to decorate your own home or to give as gifts to friends or family members.

The flowers will be available for pick up on Tuesday, April 16th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the school cafeteria. We cannot be responsible for plants ordered and not picked up, so please mark the date on your calendar.

BIG FISH Broadway actress Ciara Renee held a 4 hour masterclass with 20 students of Lancaster Catholic's BIG FISH cast on Saturday, March 16th. Ciara performed as "The Witch" in the 2013 original cast of the new Broadway musical BIG FISH at the Neil Simon Theatre in NYC. The master class instructed participating students on singing and acting technique, useful tips to bring out more energy on stage, ways to build more confidence, and how to connect to the audience more when performing.

The students performed selections from the show and then Ciara gave constructive feedback to help the actors improve their performance. The students had a wonderful time with Miss Ciara Renee!

BIG FISH will be taking the Old Main Auditorium stage next week with performances from Thursday to Sunday! Tickets are available at the door or email Tony Brill at tbrill@lchsyes.org to purchase tickets ahead of time.

2019 Golden Apple Winner: Mrs. Kathy Alton The Golden Apple award symbolizes a teacher’s professional excellence, leadership, commitment to Catholic values, and devotion to teaching in Catholic schools.

Mrs. Alton has been teaching theology at Lancaster Catholic High School since 2003 and has impacted the lives of students since her arrival.

“Teaching the Catholic faith is a responsibility and privilege I take very seriously. I thank God every day for placing me at Lancaster Catholic High School. It is through His abundant grace, and not my own merit, that I am able to stand in a classroom and teach. The love I give is only possible because of the love I received. Lancaster Catholic High School School Counseling Corner This past week was very productive in the School Counseling Office.

Thirty students went with Mr. Dietz to Millersville University for the PACAC College Fair. Students were able to speak to College and Career Admissions Counselors to gather information about Pennsylvania Colleges and what they have to offer. This is a program we have engaged in for the past five years and we will continue to offer this for interested students.
