Students braved the winter elements last Friday as they participated in the March for Life held in DC. Emily Wilkinson and LCHS STEM Sisters had the chance to have some wild encounters from the North Museum!

District Band will be held this Central Region Orchestra weekend at Lancaster Mennonite HS.

Three Crusaders will be auditioning there for the Region District Band and we wish them luck!

NCEA’s Day of Giving We are one week away from celebrating Catholic Schools Week, where schools across the United States will be celebrating and emphasizing the importance and impact of Catholic Education in America.

Rachel’s Challenge Rachel’s Challenge exists to equip and inspire individuals to replace acts of violence, bullying, and negativity with acts of respect, kindness, and compassion.

Rachel’s Challenge is based on the life and writings of Rachel Joy Scott who was the first victim of the Columbine school shootings in 1999.

Through her example, Rachel’s Challenge is making a positive impact in the lives of millions of people every year.

Rachel’s Challenge will be at Lancaster Catholic High School on Wednesday, February 13th for an in-school assembly as well as for an evening assembly that all parents are invited to. The evening assembly will take place in the LCHS Cafeteria at 6 PM and child care will be provided.

Rachel’s inspiring story provides a simple, yet powerful example of how small acts of kindness and acceptance motivate us to consider our relationships with the people we come in contact with every day. Rachel’s story gives us permission to start our own chain reaction of kindness and compassion, which positively affects the climate in our schools and communities.

A few weeks after the tragedy, Darrell Scott, Rachel’s father, spoke to a Congressional House Judiciary Committee regarding issues of school violence. Shortly afterwards, he founded “Rachel’s Challenge”, a bullying and violence abatement program.

More than two million students annually experience Rachel’s Challenge and have the opportunity to accept the challenges, modeled after Rachel’s life and writings. Students in the United States and several other countries have heard the universal message of kindness and compassion through Rachel’s story.

Lancaster Catholic would like to thank the Emerald Foundation (“The E�) for donating six esports gaming computers and a monetary gift to get the new Esports Club at Catholic High started.

Junior & Senior Parents Stay Tuned for Important Prom Information

The Main Office will be closing at 1 p.m. on February 15th for the Faculty In-Service.

Campus Ministry Update During the week of February 4th, Campus Ministry will be hosting an optional panel discussion concerning the Grand Jury Report.

The two opportunities for discussions will happen Monday, February 4th and Friday, February 8th, during Crusader Periods. The Junior and Seniors will meet during first Crusader Period and the Freshman and Sophomores will meet during second Crusader Period.

This is not required of any student, but is an opportunity for students to ask questions and get information on the impact of the report on the church and the actions being taken by the local and national church. The panel will include Fr. Arena, the Chaplain, Art Bamert, the Director of Campus Ministry, Mr. Terry Klugh, the Principal, and Mr. Tim Hamer, the President.

Please take some time to discuss this opportunity with your student(s).

The Crusader Cup Challenge has been Extended...

For the first time ever, Lancaster Catholic is hosting a fundraising competition for all alumni classes!

The rules are simple, the class that has the most participation will win The Crusader Cup. Any alum who has donated since July 1st, will be counted towards this competition.

Girls Who Code Club

Crusader Ladies, have you ever wanted to create your own video game, phone app, or learn a coding language?

Join Girls Who Code Club which meets every Monday beginning February 4, 2019 during Crusader period 2 in Room 109 to do just that! We will learn coding through online tutorials and work as a team to design and build a GWC Project that solves a real world problem in our community. Use your bravery, resilience, and creativity to become a computer scientist!

School Counseling Corner: Timely Tips from your School Counselors College Scholarships - information and applications for any scholarships that the School Counseling Office has received has been uploaded to Naviance.

Please encourage your senior to check their Naviance pages every day for updates! Paper applications are available in the School Counseling Office.

Junior Meetings - students who are juniors can expect to have their meetings scheduled with their counselors throughout the next month.

We are eager to explain what the next steps are with post high school planning and introducing students to Naviance capabilities and tools.

Right now, juniors should be looking to register for their first standardized college entrance exam (SAT: collegeboard.org or ACT:actstudent.org). Parents, you are also invited to meet with your child and their counselor, please email them directly.

Just for Juniors - are you looking for that leadership opportunity that will be inspiring and memorable? The Rotary Youth Leadership (RYLA) offers students a 4-day action packed leadership camp in June. More details to follow about how your child can apply.

Purple & Gold Gala- Class Raffle Baskets As we prepare for the 5th Annual Purple & Gold Gala on Saturday, April 6, 2019, it important to remember that the proceeds raised support all aspects of your student's education at LCHS. This includes academics, athletics, Campus Ministry, fine & performing arts and tuition assistance. That is why it is imperative that we have 100% family participation in support of this event.

As we did last year, we will be conducting on on-line raffle open to everyone and will be on-line through the month of March with winners being selected and notified after the final performance of the spring musical, "Big Fish", on Sunday, March 31, 2019.

We are asking all families to donate to the appropriate class basket(s). All donations are to be delivered to your student's homeroom by Friday, February 22nd.

All monetary donations made should reflect the students name, grade, and item the donation is for. Checks should be made payable to LCHS Purple & Gold Gala, with Class Basket on the memo line.
