Snow Days/School Days Update The past few weeks full of winter weather has forced us to shuffle our schedule and adjust our Snow Make-Up Days. Here is the update as of Feb. 21st:

Dates to Remember

• School will be in session on Monday, April 22nd (previously a make-up day)

Saturday, February 23rd: FPA Concert & Lecture Series Swing Dance • School will now be in session on Friday, June 7th Class of 2023 Entrance Exams (new last day of school) Sunday, February 24th: Track & Field Team & Parent Meeting

• Any future snow days will be added on to the end of the school year

Wednesday, February 27th: Additionally, if you have not fulfilled your yearly FPA Concert: Pops in the Round retreat obligation, the Theme Retreat Day will be Thursday, February 28th: held on Wednesday, April 17th in Berger Gym. All students who have not signed up for a retreat must Spring Blood Drive attend school on this day. Others will have a day off.

Saturday, March 2nd: Mini-THON Both snow days forced us to reschedule our assembly with Rachel’s Challenge. At this time, Sunday, March 3rd: we have not rescheduled this amazing event, Mini-THON but it will be rescheduled.

Basketball District Schedule Boys - No. 5 LCHS (14-8) plays at No. 4 Littlestown (22-1) on Thursday evening, February 21st.

Girls - No. 1 LCHS hosts the winner of No. 8 Susquehanna Township and No. 9 Wyomissing at 7pm on Friday, February 22nd in Berger Gym.

Last Saturday’s Lititz Fire & Ice Chili Cook-Off raised over $130 for Lancaster Catholic High School.

The brisket chili was among the top favorites of the day.

Junior Dress Down Day The Junior class has a dress down day tomorrow. This day was earned earlier this year for participation to One Day of Giving.

Mini-THON Update With less than 2 weeks left, we are searching for more help to make this event happen! Mini-THON is held at the school on Saturday-Sunday March 2nd & 3rd. We have so much fun, and make awesome memories!

In order for this event to even run, we need parent volunteers. It is such a fun night, and we would be so honored if you would help us out! I know the students attending would also love to see you there too, supporting the same cause! That’s where you come in! To help make the night even better, we ask the parents to create a care package for their child. This care package should be personalized and full of fun items.

Here are some ideas for what to include: Gatorade, Candy/Granola Bars, Bouncy Balls, Bubbles, Socks & Letters of Encouragement The care packages can be composed of boxes or gift bags, and they can be as large or as small as you see fit. We also ask that you do not include “messy” items such as silly string or slime.

Please send in the package to school with your child or personally drop it off in the main office no later than Wednesday, February 27th. Make sure to mark the package clearly with your students’ name so we can ensure they receive the gift.

Annual “Spring” Blood Drive Donors Wanted Did you know that every 2 seconds someone needs a blood transfusion?

It is a safe and easy process which takes approximately 45 minutes. You can save lives by being a donor at our annual “spring” blood drive.

The drive will be held Thursday, February 28 from 8:00 to 2:00 in the Old Gym. The Blood Drive is sponsored our National Honor Society and Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank.

Anyone age 16 or older, weighing at least 110 pounds and in good health on the day of the drive may donate. Pennsylvania law requires a parent consent form for students who are 16 years old. Permission forms are available in the Library and must be returned by Monday, February 25.

Unfortunately, International students may not donate since they have not been in the U.S. for 1 complete year. All donors must present a photo ID at the time of donation.

Sign-up sheets for donating will be available in the Library beginning Thursday, February 7.

Please encourage your son or daughter to donate.

Re-Enrollment Process It’s time for you to login to SchoolAdmin to indicate if your student is going to enroll for the 19-20 school year. If you did not receive an email on January 18th with instructions on how to do that, please call the business office at 717.509.0307.

Also, Registration Fees for 19-20 are now being accepted. If paid by March 1, the fee will be $150 per student. After that the fee goes up to $200 per student.

Payments may be made by cash or check to the business office or by using the Lunchtime portal (current students only).

Parent Referral Program Would you like to see a $500 discount on your tuition?

If the answer is yes, then take part in our referral program!

Our Referral Program is meant to thank families who have added new members to the Crusader family. For each new family that enrolls, the referring family will receive a $500 discount on tuition.

School Counseling Corner: Timely Tips from your School Counselors

The 2019-2020 Course Section Process will kick off

on Friday, February 22 when students will be given their course forms in homeroom. Parents and/or guardians are encouraged to discuss this important process with their students. The updated 2019-20 version of the Course Catalog is available on the LCHS website under the Student And Parent Tabs as well as the Academics Tab.

Just for Juniors - The Lancaster Sunrise Rotary is looking for

2 students who will complete their junior year this spring to attend the Rotary Youth Leaders Awards (RYLA) Conference which is held every year at Messiah College. Applications are available now, please see Mrs. Grosh in the School Counseling Office for more information.

Purple & Gold Gala- Class Raffle Baskets As we prepare for the 5th Annual Purple & Gold Gala on Saturday, April 6, 2019, it important to remember that the proceeds raised support all aspects of your student's education at LCHS. This includes academics, athletics, Campus Ministry, fine & performing arts and tuition assistance. That is why it is imperative that we have 100% family participation in support of this event.

As we did last year, we will be conducting on on-line raffle open to everyone and will be on-line through the month of March with winners being selected and notified after the final performance of the spring musical, "Big Fish", on Sunday, March 31, 2019.

We are asking all families to donate to the appropriate class basket(s). All donations are to be delivered to your student's homeroom by tomorrow Friday, February 22nd.

All monetary donations made should reflect the students name, grade, and item the donation is for. Checks should be made payable to LCHS Purple & Gold Gala, with Class Basket on the memo line.

Health Enews Dangerous Apps for Kids

Smartphones and tablets have allowed predators access to children in their own homes.

Additionally, children can be exposed to cyber-bullying and sexually inappropriate content.

New apps are constantly being created, so it’s important to monitor what your child downloads. It’s important to know what each app does, whether it has any benefit, and whether it can expose your child to danger.

Apps Specifically Known to Be Dangerous for Kids 

Whisper. Whisper allows you to post secrets anonymously and allows you to chat with other users in your geographic area.

Why is it dangerous? Many children are drawn to communicating with strangers, feeling that their secrets are safer with a stranger than with their friends. The app is a perfect tool for ill-intentioned strangers looking to connect with young people because it allows them to exchange messages with people nearest them.



YikYak. All YikYak users are anonymous, they don’t create a profile or an account, but they can post comments that are accessible to the nearest 500 people (within a 1-5 mile radius). In fact, a psychiatrist called YikYak the most dangerous app he’d ever seen because it “can turn a school into a chat room where everyone can post his or her comments anonymously. Untruthful, mean, character assassinating short messages are immediately seen by all users in a specific geographic area.”

Why is it dangerous? This app is causing problems in schools across the United States, with students maliciously slandering teachers, staff, and other students.



Kik. Kik is a free app-based alternative texting service that allows texts/pictures to be sent without being logged in the phone history. Similar apps are Viber, WhatsApp, and TextNow. Why is it dangerous? Kik makes it easier for your child to talk to strangers without your knowledge since it bypasses the wireless providers short message services (SMS). In addition, strangers can send your child a “friend request.”



Snapchat. Snapchat allows users to capture an image or a video and make it available to friends who can then share with possible unintended users. Pictures and videos automatically disappear forever unless the user saves it to their memories.

Additionally, Snapchat has a map screen where others can see the users exact location in real time.

Why is it dangerous? Kids can receive or send inappropriate photos. This app can also makes kids feel like they can send inappropriate pictures without the consequences because the image will self-destruct automatically– or so they think.

The truth is that nothing sent over the internet disappears which could ultimately affect future careers. The location feature could allow predators to know exactly where your child is located.
