TYPOGRAPHIC CONCEPT
Odette is created from simple geometric shapes in nature that are the foundation of the most complex forms. Each letter is constructed with a single continuous line and a series of 45 and 90 degree angles. This criteria, while limiting the freedom of the design, creates visual clear unity and highlights the potential even in the most basic elements of mark making. The strict limitation of 45 and 90 degree angles create a patterned structure. The width and height of each character is initially based off the capitol letter N, as highlighted, and adjusted as necessary for the needs of the letterform.
The letterforms are further constricted by using only two different widths between the line segments, creating a sophiscticated pattern to the structure of each character and the typeface as a whole.

The beauty of the outdoors lies in the organic shapes that compose its elements. It is the untamed wilderness of nature. Traditional typography often reflects these freeform shapes in the structure of the letters. Odette is designed as an ornamental typeface to be used as an oppropriate accent, contrasting with traditional typography. The harsh angles geometric shapes of the characters are a grotesteque translation on the primitive shapes that are at the foundation of the all natural forms. Each letter is created using a single continuous line which gives the allows for an element of connectedness and unity.
