Festivities galore on Sri Krishna Janmashtami Indiranagar: The Lord is indeed true to His name - Deenabandhu taking care of all the physical, mental and spiritual seekings of all ardent devotees. On the day of Krishna Janmashtami, Deenabandu Devasthanam was crowded with devotees receiving the blessings of the Lord. The week long Krishna Janmashtami celebrations drew a huge crowd from every nook and corner of the city. The temple complex was brilliantly decked up for one of the largest and the most grand, 2-day celebrations symbolizing Lord Krishna's appearance. There is nothing superior to cows

In the Bhagavad-Gita, Lord Krishna Says: "Krsi-go-raksya vaijyam -vaisyakarma svabhava-jam" "The duty of the mercantile community is agriculture and cow protection." Lord Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita “I can be worshiped within the Cows by offerings of grass and other suitable grains and paraphernalia for the pleasure and health of the Cows, and one may worship Me within the Vaishnavas by offering loving friendship to them and honoring them in all respects. Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavadgita that the activities of the productive class of society should be krishi-go-rakshya-vanijyam: agriculture, cow protection, and trade. Agriculture gives us grains. Cow protection gives us milk and the oxen to produce the grains. And trade,

which comes about naturally when there's surplus production, benefits the farmer and the rest of society. Grains and cows are an important basis of wealth, not only in the spiritual culture advocated by Lord Krishna but also in modern materialistic economics. The crucial difference is that the center of the spiritual economic system is cow protection, and the center of the materialistic system is cow killing. Cows are the mothers of all creatures. Cows are verily the mothers of the 33 crores of demigods that administrate creation in the material existence throughout all the universes. Cows are the goddesses of the gods and the refuge of all auspiciousness. Cows bestow every kind of happiness and for these reason they always are worship able. Cows are the support of all the worlds for by their milk they nourish terrestrial's beings and by their ghee offered in sacrifice they nourish the denizens of the celestial realms.

Nothing superior to cows. One should never show disrespect for cows in any way nor should one feel any repugnance towards the urine and dung of a cow because these things are also pure. When cows are grazing or laying down relaxing one should never disturb or annoy them in any way. Cows should never be killed in any type of sacrifice or slaughtered in any way for food as the killing of cows constitutes the most heinous of all sins in existence. According to Vedas the Cow has a special position within the human society; She has the status of our mother. No society can boast of civilization without proper protection of cows. Cows are the life breath of all living creatures therefore one who makes a gift of a cow is said to be making a gift of life breath to all living creatures. Cows are also constituted as the great refuge of all living creatures thus one who makes a gift of a cow is said to be

making a gift of that which is the great refuge of all living creatures. Cows constitute the highest good. Cows are the root of great blessing for all living beings.. Cows are the source of eternal growth. Cows are the past and the future. Evolution itself depends upon cows. The mantras used for Vedic rituals such as Swaha and Vashat without which no Vedic rites are complete are eternally established in cows. Cows verily are the fruit of all Vedic rituals because all Vedic rituals are dependent upon the ghee from cows for the performance of sacred rituals which benefit all of creation. Thus the protection of cows is the greatest dharma or eternal duty for all living beings. Please invite your friends. It would be more meaningful if we can support this cause and help those who are trying to protect the cows from the butchers' hand.

The most wanted has been arrested

Bangalore to host nutraceuticals' summit in 2014

B

angalore: The ninth edition of the Nutra India Summit, the flagship event of the nutrition, nutraceuticals, functional foods and dietary supplements industry, will be held here March 12-14, 2014. "With India emerging as a wellness and healthconscious nation, there is an increasing awareness of nutritionals, nutraceuticals and health food products, thanks to the country's rich bio-diversity and wealth of natural resources," summit chairman V. Prakash told reporters here late Tuesday.

angalore: Yasin Bhatkal, one of India's most wanted men and the head of the terror group Indian Mujahideen, has been arrested near the border with Nepal. Bhatkal, 30, was caught near north Bihar, reportedly after a tip-off from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He is being brought to Delhi. Another Indian Mujahideen member, Asadullah Akhtar, was arrested with him. Hailing from Bhatkal, a coastal town in Karnataka, Yasin Bhatkal was born in 1973 and studied at a madrasa at the Anjuman Hami-eMuslimeen. In the early 1990s, he left for Pune. It is believed according to the charge sheets filed by anti-terror agencies of 12 states, that Bhatkal planted bombs in at least 10 of the blasts that rocked the country since 2008 - Ahmedabad (2008), Surat (2008), Jaipur (2008), New Delhi (2008), Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi (2010), Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore (2010), German Bakery in Pune (2011), Mumbai (2011), Hyderabad (2013) and Bangalore (2013). In a February 11 , 2013 announcement, the Mumbai police also announced Rs.10 lakh reward for information on three suspected current associates of Yasin - Tahseen Akhtar Shaikh, 23, Asadulla Akhtar, 26, and Waqas alias Ahmed, 26. "We are extremely relieved to know through the media that our son Ahmed Siddibapa is alive and in police custody as we feared earlier that he would have been eliminated in a fake encounter long ago," Zarar Siddibapa told media from Bhatkal, a small town on the west coast of Karnataka, about 400 km from Bangalore. Expressing full faith in the judiciary, Siddibapa said his eldest son Ahmed should be punished if found guilty of any offence after the due process of law was followed.

Will Syria-Israel conflict cause the price of oil explode higher? Are you ready to pay more for oil and gas? War has consequences, and a conflict with Syria has the potential to escalate wildly out of control very rapidly. The Obama administration is pledging that the upcoming attack on Syria will be "brief and limited" and that the steady flow of oil out of the Middle East will not be interrupted. But what happens if Syria strikes back? What happens if Syrian missiles start raining down on Tel Aviv? What happens if Hezbollah or Iran starts attacking U.S. or Israeli targets? Unless Syria, Hezbollah and Iran all stand down and refuse to fight back, we could very easily be looking at a major regional war in the Middle East, and that could cause the price of oil to explode higher. Syria is not a major oil producer, but approximately a third of all of the crude oil in the world is produced in the Middle East. If the

Suez Canal or the Persian Gulf (or both) get shut down for an extended period of time, the consequences would be dramatic. The price of oil has already risen this summer, and war in the Middle East could potentially send it soaring into record territory. We can always hope that cooler heads prevail and that a conflict is avoided, but at this point it does not look like that is going to happen. In fact, according to Richard Engel of NBC News, a senior U.S. official has admitted that "we're past the point of return" and that a strike on Syria can be expected within days. Obama is promising that the U.S. will "take limited, tailored approaches", and that we will not be "getting drawn into a long conflict, not a repetition of, you know, Iraq, which I know a lot of people are worried about", but how in the world can he guarantee that?

To be organised by the International Society for Nutraceuticals, Nutritionals and Naturals (ISNNaN) and MM Activ Sci-Tech Communications Ltd, the three-day event provides a platform for exporters, importers, sourcing firms, production and purchase professionals, doctors, nutritionists and research and development (R&D) heads. With 'New Sutra for Nutra for emerging global economics' as the theme, the summit will focus on the latest trends, strategies, opportunities and challenges in the nutraceutical space. Infosys to downsize onsite Services

B

angalore: Infosys is considering downsizing its onsite services which may result in employees at support functions losing their jobs. The second largest IT company in India is on an attempt to ensure cost efficiency in its operations, reports Economic Times. The report also says that the marketing team in the U.S. is also on the radar. This is said to be in an attempt to restructure the sales engine in the U.S. "Infosys feels that the SGS group is overlapping with what the sales function does," the report added. Narayana Murthy and his son Rohan Murthy are said to be in U.S. for the last two weeks to work on the strategy to cut onsite services cost. The company's onsite cost accounts for 46 percent of total cost as of March 2013.

However the management did not confirm anything about the ongoing process. Yesterday there was another report where the Infosys Chairman Narayana Murthy is said to be over rid CEO Shibulal's move to decentralize the decision making at the company. Murthy has made the sole decider on key decisions related to large technology contracts, like pricing and the way deals are structured, according to the three senior executives who choose to be anonymous. But under the new centralized model proposed by Murthy, the company's over $7-billion (42,000 crore) revenues from corporations in the U.S. and Europe, will now go through longer decision cycles.

Syria, Iran and Hezbollah have all threatened to attack Israel if the U.S. attacks Syria. If missiles start raining down on Israeli cities, the Israelis are not just going to sit there and take it like they did during the first Gulf War. In fact, according to the Los Angeles Times, "Israeli leaders are making it clear that they have no intention of standing down this time if attacked". If Israel is attacked, their military response will be absolutely massive.

And then we will have the major regional war in the Middle East that so many people have been warning about for so many years. Hundreds of thousands of people will die and the global economy will be paralyzed. So what will Obama do in such a situation? Will he pack up and go home? Of course not. He would be committed to fighting a brutal, horrific war that there was absolutely no reason to start in the first place.

Is Karnataka by-poll result indicative of UPA III after 2014 poll?

Bangalore: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister M. Veerappa Moily on Monday said the Congress Party's victory in the recent bypolls in Karnataka's Mandya and Rural Bangalore constituencies is a clear indicator of the UPA returning to power at the Centre for a third consecutive five-year term. He said the result was a clear rejection of the Janata Dal- Secular (JD-S) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). "This is a tremendous victory. This is an indication that the people of Karnataka did not tolerate, that means they don't want JD-S and they don't want BJP. This is a rejection of both the parties. This is a very clear indication because in Mandya we (Congress) were not that comfortable," he told media. “This has also demonstrated the fact that the march of Modi is just in the back burner, it will not result into any brightening side not only in Karnataka but the rest of the country. It is a clear signal as our Prime Minister and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi have said that in 2014 it will be the Congress victory again and UPA III will be back," he added. The Congress on Saturday won both the Mandya and rural Bangalore seats by heavy margins, defeating their rival Janata Dal Secular (JD-S) in their stronghold. The Congress Party candidates surged ahead of their rival Janta Dal Secular (JD-S) in Mandya and Bangalore rural Lok Sabha constituencies in the August 21 by-polls.

Kumaraswamy to remain JD-S leader helicopter Dhruv, ably aided by Cheetah and Chetak. These copters flew around 1200 hours in the biggest ever helicopter based rescue operation of Indian defence forces in flood and rain-hit areas of Uttarakhand. HAL copters performed effectively in dropping paratroopers, evacuating stranded people and in supplying food and medicines in the affected areas of Uttarakhand. HAL designed, developed and produced Dhruv helicopters have been delivered to the Indian Army, Air Force, Navy and the Coast Guard. They are also exported. The civil version of Dhruv has been certified by the DGCA and delivered to ONGC, Govt of Jharkand and the BSF.

B

angalore: Janata Dal-Secular members in the Karnataka assembly Thursday decided that H.D. Kumaraswamy should continue as their leader in the house. The son former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda had submitted the resignation from the position after the JD-S was routed in the bypolls to two Lok Sabha seats in the state. The decision was taken at a day-long meeting of JD-S legislators at a posh resort on Bangalore's outskirts. “The meeting decided not to accept Kumaraswamy's resignation and he will continue to lead the party in the assembly," JD-S leader and member of the legislative council M.C. Nanaiah told reporters. JD-S candidates lost the Aug 21 by-election from Bangalore Rural and Mandya Lok Sabha seats. The Congress bagged both the constituencies considered JD-S bastions. Both the JD-S and Bharatiya Janata Party have 40 members each in the 225-member assembly that includes one nominated member. But JD-S is the recognized opposition party as it polled more votes than BJP in the May 5 assembly election which brought the Congress to power with 122 seats.

Before this, Melbourne had consistently been in the top three positions of the 140 cities listed, a statement said. Out of the total 221 cities all over the world, however, Bangalore has a rank of 141. European cities dominate the top 25 slots. Dedicated CPC for TDS to smoothen tax payments

D

edicated Central Processing Centre (CPC) to process TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) of Income Tax Department will soon be fully operational. Once fully operational, CPC will substantially cut down the problems associated with filing of TDS returns and matching of due refunds. This was stated by Mr Ashutosh Chandra, Commissioner of Income Tax, Bangalore - 2 while inaugurating a Seminar on TDS organized by ASSOCHAM on Thursday. Mr Chandra said that this would help obviate numerous

problems currently faced by tax payers particularly those resulting due to errors in feeding of data. Mr Chandra further said that there was need to foster culture of compliance with tax laws. This, he said would bring down the need for prosecution or investigation by Tax authorities and at the same time ensure collection of due taxes. Lauding the tax payers of Karnataka – Goa region, Mr Chandra said that the region had clocked highest growth in TDS collections which was almost double the national average. He said this reflected better understanding of law and the

urge to comply with the same. The Seminar was also addressed by Mr S S Mantri, Additional Commissioner of I n c o m e Ta x ( T D S ) , Bangalore. Shri Mantri advised delegates to approach the I-T Department for clarifications on various issues. He also advised delegates to ensure strict compliance of provisions of tax laws especially in matters related to tax deducted at source. In case of any doubt, tax deductors may approach the Department for clarification, he said. Earlier welcoming delegates to the Seminar, Mr J Crasta, Co-Chairman, ASSOCHAM

Southern Regional Council complimented the Department of Income Tax for several measures taken by them to simplify the process of filing income tax returns and claiming refunds. However, he said the assesees were still faced with a large number of problems that arise due to difference in interpretation of law. This often leads to lengthy litigation causing loss of precious time and resources. A large number of delegates attended the Seminar which was addressed by several experts.

September 1-7, 2013 Vol. 5 Issue - 01 6 Layout Times Will human settlement in Mars be likely in the future? As the deadline for registration nears, over 8,000 Indians have so far signed up for the one-way trip to Mars and settle down on the red planet, as 'Mars One' project is planning to establish a colony there in the next 10 years. 'Mars One', a not-forprofit foundation intends to establish a permanent human settlement on Mars in 2023 and is registering those interested to make it up there. India stands fourth among other countries of the world with 8,107 applicants, as on August 27. The top 10 countries to enrol are the USA (37,852), China (13,124), Brazil (8,686), India (8,107), Russia (7,138), Britain (6,999), Mexico (6,771), Canada (6,593), Spain (3,621) and Philippines (3,516) as on August 22, report from 'Mars One' says. With August 31 this year being the last date for registering, 'Mars One' has already received interest from more than 1,65,000 people hoping to be the first humans on Mars. "The Mars One Application Program is turning out to be the most desired job vacancy in the

world. People from over 140 countries are looking towards the final frontier and envisioning their life on another planet," the report says. Mars One believes that human settlement on the red planet was possible with existing technologies and it plans to integrate components that are well tested and readily available from industry leaders worldwide. "The first footprint on Mars and lives of the crew thereon will captivate and inspire generations; it is this public interest that will help finance this human mission to Mars," the report adds.

“Clay minerals tend to form only at a more neutral pH. This is water you could drink. It was much more favourable for things like prebiotic chemistry – the kind that could lead to the origin of life.” Previously Opportunity has found liquids that were very acidic, but the existence of clay suggests Mars was warmer and wetter billions of years ago – than the average -55C it is today. The find is a key success for O p p o r t u n i t y, w h i c h w a s originally sent out to Mars to

work for 90 Martian days, as days are 24 hours and 37 minutes long on Mars. However, it has kept going for more than 3,000 so far. Nasa has a newer rover vehicle on the planet called Curiosity, which touched down on the planet in August last year and has also uncovered clays on the planet and compounds like water and oxygen in soils. It was reported to have found carbon at the end of last year, which is an essential building block for life.

The Nasa Opportunity rover vehicle, which has been on the Red Planet since 2004, uncovered a rock containing clay minerals, suggesting it previously had contact with water and therefore life may have existed on Mars. Prof Steve Squyres, lead scientist for Opportunity, said:

Gokulashtami Recipe - Uppu Seedai (salted seedai) Ingredients needed Raw Rice flour(Pacharisi mavu)- 2 cups Urad dal flour - 3 tsp Butter - 11/4 tbsp Grated coconut - 2 tbsp (optional) Chilli powder -1 tsp Hing - 1/4 tsp Salt as required Oil for deep frying Preparation Soak raw rice for 4 hours in water, drain the water completely and spread it in a cloth to dry. Then grind it to a fine powder. You can also grind it in a flour mill. Sieve it and keep it aside. We need 2 cups of this flour. Then dry roast the rice flour till it becomes slightly hot to touch. Do not roast the flour until it changes color. Dry roast whole urad dal till it turns golden brown. After it cools, grind it to a very fine powder and sieve it.We need 3 tsp of this powder/flour. Mixing and salt in a little water and keep it ready. Method Mix well rice flour, urad dal flour, grated coconut, butter, chilli powder, salt and hing first. Then sprinkle water and make a smooth dough. Do not add too much water. Now grease your palms with oil and make small balls roughly from the dough. You do not have to make fine smooth balls. Make small sized balls (see pic below), so that it will get cooked well inside. Spread the balls in a cloth for 10 minutes to dry if required. Heat oil in a kadai, add a small ball of seedai, if it comes to the surface, the oil is hot enough to fry the seedais. Now keep it in medium flame, drop a handful of balls gently into the oil and fry the balls. Keep stirring so that it will get cooked evenly. Once the frying sound subsides, remove the seedais with a slotted ladle and transfer to a colander to drain the excess oil. Yummy and crunchy seedais are ready. Store it in an airtight container. Tips To prevent seedai from bursting, sieve the flour after roasting. Do not make very smooth balls. If you make smooth balls, air bubbles might get trapped inside which will result in bursting of seedai. Also ensure that you make small even sized balls, so that the whole batch will get cooked at the same time. Avoid making big balls as the inside will not get cooked properly. Sieving of rice flour and urad dal flour is important because if there are any small particles or grains in it, it will cause the seedai to burst while frying.

Edinburgh science fest draws Bangalore students

B

angalore: Hundreds of school and college students Friday flocked to the Edinburgh International Science Festival at the sprawling Bhartiya city here for participating in a host of events, workshops and cultural events. Being held for the first time in the country, the 10-day fest is demonstrating a slew of scientific projects and programmes to infuse spirit of enquiry and build scientific temper in the younger g e n e r a t i o n . "It is heartening to know the organisers have chosen Bangalore to host their first science fest in India, testifying the city's global reputation as a centre of research and development (R&D) and innovations in science and t e c h n o l o g y, " K a r n a t a k a Agriculture Minister Krishna Byregowda said flagging off the event on a cloudy day. The minister, who also studied in the US before returning to state and plunging into politics, exhorted

the youth to experience the wonders of science in an interactive mode at the fest. Noting that such festivals kindle children's interest in science and nurture love for exploring the domain, Indian Institute of Management (IIM-Bangalore) professor Rajiv Gowda said the country has a rich legacy of science and mathematics since zero was invented and used for the first time by renowned astronomer Aryabhatta during the fifth century AD. Festival chief executive Simon Gage said the event would recreate the excitement of Edinburgh's world famous science fest in India, which is making advances in science and technology. "The British Council and the Scottish government played an important role in bringing this fest to India," Gage said. About 50,000 visitors, including school children and their parents are expected to visit the fest, which will last till Sep 8. Among the events being held at the fest include the Emergency Room

(ER) Surgery, where students will gain first-hand experience in the working of an operating theatre and what it's like to be a doctor. Similarly, at Splatastic, students will explore properties of different polymers and make colourful gooey snakes, observe a liquid-to-solid chemical reaction, produce designer slime and test it on Splatometer. In Adventure Robots, participants build and control Lego Mindstorm Robots by learning to use basic computer programming software. "In Math Masters, students learn tips and tricks for super fast mental math calculations and solve puzzles to develop l a t e r a l thinking," Gage noted. A s a n educational charity that encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to discover the wonders of the

world around them, the Edinburgh fest demonstrates benefits of science throughout the year in partnership with overseas science festivals and an education programme that tours worldwide. British Deputy High Commissioner Ian Felton, Discover Networks Asia-Pacific vice-president Rajiv Bakshi and Bhartiya group chairman Snehdeep Aggarwal were also present on the occasion. Discovery Kids, Horlicks Promind, Art Konnect and mycitykids.com are the partners in the fest.
