Live theatre is returning to the Coast in spectacular form with Laycock Street Community Theatre’s exceptional line-up of performers for our 2021 season!

An exciting year filled with a talented line-up!

After a challenging year for many and especially for live entertainment, we are overjoyed to present a diverse and exciting new program.

Featuring renowned Australian artists such as multi-instrumentalist James Morrison and comedian Damian Callinan, stunning ballet presented by Victorian State Ballet and author Andy Griffiths’ stories coming to life on stage, Laycock combines quality with an undeniable energy.

Presenting first-rate musical theatre, Gosford Musical Society returns in July 2021 with its smash hit Mamma Mia, along with annual attractions including Central Coast Dance Festival, Youth in Performing Arts (YIPA) along with a variety of exceptional shows presented by our hirers.

Opening in 1988, Laycock Street Community Theatre was built ‘by the community for the community’. To ensure your theatre experience is maximised, the Laycock team listened, reviewed and actioned your feedback from the 2019 Customer Experience survey.

We are passionate about delivering an enjoyable customer experience and have introduced some new innovations across our box office, bar, kiosk and entry check in.

Family Fun - Acrobats Music - Tricks

Bursting with high calibre acrobatics, a ton of comedy, live music and high flying tricks, Brass Monkeys is perfect for little kids and grown-ups who like a big brass belly laugh!

Performed by powerhouse duo Kyle Raftery and April Dawson (Lunar Circus, Circus Oz) and directed by Malia Walsh (Circus Trick Tease). This trio of artists is famous for combining circus skills of epic proportion and comedy for all ages.

Join professors Lexi and Noel for a thrilling voyage through the alphabet – with 26 quirky science experiments to race through in 52 minutes, every show is completely different, with audiences determining the order in which the letters are revealed and explored.

Professor Lexi Con has curated a curious collection of her favourite words (one for every letter of the alphabet) with each word providing Professor Noel Edge with an inspirational jumping off point for 26 quirky scientific demonstrations – that squish and squirt, float and fly, erupt and explode. Together, this dad-joke quipping, prank-pulling pair of polished professors strut their stuff in a performance that’s equal parts explosive, messy, spectacular, hilarious, fascinating and gross – perfect for kids aged 5 - 12 and families.

Italian Flute and Guitar Programme

Virtuosi instrumentalists flautist Jane Rutter and guitarist Giuseppe Zangari celebrate the music of Italy with Vivaldi, Giuliani, Corelli, Paganini, Rossini and more. Tarantellas, Italian Dances, a classical Mambo Italiano and Piovanni’s Beautiful That Way from the film Life is Beautiful.

Jane and Giuseppe formed this exciting duo in 2013 and have toured to sell out audiences. Expect a highly entertaining morning of superb music!

Every year Andy’s school holds a short story competition and every year Andy writes an awesome, amazing, captivating, TERRIFYING story. But every year Andy is robbed of winning, thwarted by some dumb story about kittens and sunshine. How is that possible?!

With the help of his best friend Danny, the love of his life Lisa (but if you tell anyone he said that, he’ll feed you to a giant slug!), his somewhat trusty dog Sooty and a lifetime of crazy, shocking, doomed, stupid

and just plain DISGUSTING experiences, Andy sets out on a night that

will ensure a flawless victory. As long as his brussels sprouts farts don’t poison them all before morning! Suitable for ages 8-12.

Follow Me Home is an insightful new theatre production by awardwinning playwright Lewis Treston. Presented as a series of vignettes, the play reveals the real stories of a group of extraordinarily strong, resilient and courageous young people from across Australia.

Inspired by the real life stories shared by homeless young people across NSW, this thought-provoking work from Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) is a must see for audiences aged 14 and over. Four talented young actors take on multiple roles in a fast paced show that will leave audiences with a shift in perspective, a little more compassion and a deeper understanding of the world!

NEWK The John Newcombe Story

Bring light entertainment into Dad’s afternoon following Newk’s life journey!

Written by award-winning Melbourne playwright Kieran Carroll and performed by three time Barry Award nominee and star of recent hit film The Merger, Damian Callinan, NEWK traces the life of the great Australian tennis champion of the ‘60s and ‘70s, John Newcombe.

Set in 2014 at Newk’s 70th birthday in Sydney, Newcombe’s journey travels from naïve ‘60s schoolboy, to the No 1 player in the world in the ‘70s, to his time as Davis Cup Captain, to the stroke he suffered in 2003.

The play portrays a highly determined and ambitious man burning through a quickly changing world. NEWK is a grand story about wanting life to be a huge ride, where rest is secondary and how zest and appetite for life never disappears but has to be tempered.

The show features a tribute to one of the music industry’s most loved and iconic acts, The Blues Brothers, which will have the audience fully involved and dancing in the aisles.

The ladies of Girls On Tap multi-task (of course) live on stage - whether they are dancing, singing, tapping and playing the piano at the same time or using their daily hair care routine to tap out fun rhythms with a can of hair spray and a hair brush.

Girls On Tap takes a look at female life both good and bad.

Legacy and sisterhood vs betrayal by our female counterparts, stereotyping and objectification by the media. It’s not all noise and backstabbing though. James Morrison Quartet

The name James Morrison is known throughout the world for his sheer brilliance as a jazz musician and an all-round entertainer.

He is constantly on the move, touring everywhere and anywhere fine music has an audience. His recordings are best sellers and James works with the cream of the world’s best performers. Ray Brown called him ‘The Genius’ and Dizzy Gillespie called him “One of The Best” but Wynton Marsalis summed it up: “Man, James Morrison can play!”

The James Morrison Quartet will present an evening of swinging jazz standards, sublime ballads, and haunting latin numbers with a few surprised thrown in. Featuring James’s sons Harry Morrison on Bass and William Morrison on Guitar as well as Patrick Danao on Drums, the James Morrison Quartet will perform tunes spanning the history of jazz as well as originals by Morrison himself and other Australian jazz greats.
