Costume Day

Play the Ancient African game of Mancala

The object of the game is to capture more stones than your opponent. 4 playing pieces are placed in each of the 12 empty holes in the game board. If you do not have a mancala board, you can play the game using an egg carton & 48 pebbles, seeds, or buttons. Each player has a store or Mancala, which can be a cup or a bowl on each end of the egg carton. Play begins when 1 player picks up all of the pieces in any one of the holes on their side. Moving counter-clockwise, the player deposits 1 of the stones in each hole until the stones run out. If you run into your store, deposit a stone, if you run into your opponents store, skip it. If the last piece you drop is in your store then you get to go again. If the last piece you drop is in an empty hole on your side, you capture that piece & any pieces in the hole directly opposite. Always place all captured pieces in your store. The game ends when all 6 spaces on one side of the mancala board are empty. The player who still has pieces on his side of the board captures all of those pieces. Whoever has the most pieces in their store at the end of the game is the winner.

Add any desired omelet ingredients, including chopped veggies, cooked sausage, ham, &/or cheese to the muffin pan. Pour in the egg mixture. Bake at 375 for 20 min or until eggs are set.

Explore Shadows w/ Art On a sunny day, place toys & objects on paper outside & trace their shadows. Leave them in the same positions and trace the objects at different times of the day. What changed? & Why?

Clothespin Puppets

.

Design and cut out puppet faces (people faces, fish, etc.). Cut the puppet face apart between the top and the bottom part of the mouth. Glue the top & bottom parts of the puppet onto a clothespin. The puppet “talks” as you open & close as the clothespin.
