CONTAINED CHAOS “I wanted a place where I would enjoy doing laundry, but at the same time, it had to be functional,” says Fort Langley, B.C.based designer Kelley McNamara. To create order, she settled on lower cabinets with deep drawers instead of shelves to maximize space and provide easy access to oft-used items like detergents and stain removers.

dry room country character without breaking the bank, the designer opted for inexpensive white and grey porcelain floor tiles set in a checkered pattern. This helped justify her decision to splurge on handmade glazed terracotta backsplash tiles, which add interesting texture to the space – especially when the light shines in through the nearby window.
