Lawndale’s 2022 Spring Benefit \ Thurs, May 12, 2022 from 6 - 10 PM Lawndale invites you to REWIND in celebration of our vibrant 40+ year history of supporting local arts and culture.
Lawndale is a multidisciplinary contemporary art center that engages Houston communities with exhibitions and programs that explore the aesthetic, critical, and social issues of our time. Lawndale believes in the role of art and artists to inspire and inform the world around us. By serving as an intimate gathering place to experience art and ideas, Lawndale seeks to foster connections between communities in Houston and the Gulf Coast region. Lawndale presents a diverse range of artistic practices and perspectives through exhibitions and programs, including lectures, symposia, film screenings, readings, and musical performances. Through exhibition opportunities, the Artist Studio Program, institutional collaborations, and the engagement of an advisory board comprised of artists, curators, and scholars, Lawndale seeks within its mission to support all artistic and cultural communities of Houston.
Your gift supports Lawndale’s Community Engagement: Lawndale is dedicated to strengthening our artistic programming via collaborations with organizations in Houston and Gulf Coast Region. Our multidisciplinary programming creates a public forum, free of charge, that engages all sectors of the Houston community in ideas and issues of current significance. Recent standout programmatic collaborations include organizations such as Nameless Sound, Gulf Coast: A Journal of Literary and Fine Arts, Latino Art Now! (organized by the University of Houston’s InterUniversity Program for LatinoResearch and the Smithsonian Latino Center), and Artadia.
Family Day at Lawndale
Your gift supports the 2021/22 Exhibition Season: Lawndale utilizes its three galleries and sculpture garden to present a dynamic curatorial program that is reflective of Houston’s diverse communities and a wide range of artistic practices. Past exhibiting artists include Lynn Randolph (2017), Jamal Cyrus and Jamire Williams (2018), Lovie Olivia (2018), Ryan Hawk (2018), Saúl Hernández-Vargas (2019), Virginia Lee Montgomery (2020), Bria Lauren (2021), and Emily Peacock (2021), among others.

Your gift supports the Artist Studio Program: The Lawndale Artist Studio Program (ASP) awards artists with dynamic support to develop their creative practice and make new work for an exhibition in the spring The nine-month program runs from September 1 to May 31. During this time, participants engage Lawndale as their hub, receive a $750/month honorarium, up to $2,000 in direct support for project development, and 24-hour access to a private studio. Other benefits include studio visits, and an essay commissioned for the annual ASP publication. Participants work closely with Lawndale to develop programming in concert with their own practice, and participate in group discussions and open studios.
