Ready to Grow Together

While many of us have returned largely to a sense of pre pandemic normalcy, some continue to struggle with the lasting impact of a life turned upside down. Families continue to experience the physical impact of being sick, the financial impact of losing income, or the social impact of extended isolation. For students, in addition to these losses, many have suffered academic losses as well. It has always been our mission to prepare underserved students for academic success in high school, college, and beyond. But as the gap continues to grow for those who had fewer means to navigate the challenges the pandemic presented, our mission becomes that much more important. Thus, we enter 2023 with a strategic plan to more than triple the number of students served over the next three years. We are confident that by partnering with the school districts our students attend, the legal and business communities that inspire and support our students, and our hardworking students themselves, we can grow not only in number but in impact for many years to come!

Message from the Executive Director

COMPETITION STATEWIDE

For the first time since 2019, we were able to bring our students from around the state together for a culminating event at the Ohio Statehouse at which the students demonstrated their skills and competed to be the statewide champion.

We The People Mock Trial

Using the Street Law case of New Columbia v. Chris Archer, 9th grade students argued whether a college student was guilty of first degree murder and criminal hazing. After only ents m from

We The People, a mock congressional hearing created by the Center for Civic Education, was added to the 10th grade curriculum when the pandemic prevented the students from participating in internships. We continued the activity this year with the team from Cincinnati

In our Resilience Cafe, 11th grade students perform a spoken word piece they have written from the perspective of someone who demostrated resilience during the course of a landmark Supreme Court case. Dayton student Wriley Lowe earned 1st place with a perfect score.

Only four weeks after receiving the case, 12th grade students wrote appellate briefs and delivered oral arguments in the Ohio Center for Law Related Education case of United States v Cado Toste. The team from Dayton took 1st place.
