Transforming Lives Virtua Gala Friday, October 22nd, 2021 Dear Living Well Disability Services Supporters, I am thrilled to welcome you to our 2021 Transforming Lives VIRTUAL Gala! This evening’s event is all about you—both our closest and best friends as well as those new to our mission. Like so much of our world these days, tonight’s festivities will look a bit different. We have tried to balance fun with safety, in pursuit of a program that will help us connect with one another and the mission that is the heart of Living Well. Our program highlights our needs, our homes, and the people who make us who we are. You will be introduced to our Dream Maker award winners, hear touching stories of triumph and dedication, and meet a few people served. You will also have opportunities to empower the creation of new stories in pursuit of exceptional services for all those we care for. Thank you for taking time in your busy lives and making space in your generous hearts for all the amazing people who make Living Well a great place to live and work. Thank you! Tom Gillespie President & CEO

About Living Well Disability Services Living Well Disability Services has provided invaluable support for hundreds of people impacted by disabilities every hour of every day for 49 years. Many of the individuals we serve require intensive assistance with complex and challenging daily living needs.

Our Mission Providing exceptional services that transform the lives of people impacted by disabilities.

Our Goal Tonight Our goal is to bring awareness and support for our work transforming the lives of people impacted by disabilities. The vast majority of our funding comes from Medicare and Medicaid; however, costs are rising faster than the reimbursement rates. As a result, many of our peer organizations no longer serve people with high medical needs (we do). We are known as the place to turn when other places turn them away. • We serve people with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities. • Compared to our peers, we serve a segment of the disability community with the highest medical needs, and most are not able to live independently. • Our support is critical to people’s survival because their medical needs exceed what their loved ones can provide.

About The Gala Committee The Gala Committee supports Living Well Disability Services throughout the year getting ready for their largest fundraiser – The Transforming Lives Gala. Our mission has remained the same: to acquaint the community with the mission of Living Well Disability Services and support its greatest needs. We are a dedicated and passionate group of people, working hard to ensure that community awareness, involvement and fundraising are at record levels.

Fundraising Impact Help us support critical priorities not covered by Medicare The vast majority of our funding – 97 percent – comes from Medicare and Medicaid. However, the costs to support the people we serve are rising more quickly than Medicare reimbursement rates are rising. Living Well Disability Services is committed to meeting the medical needs of everyone we serve. Dollars raised through events like the Gala help us provide exceptional services including:

Nursing and Therapy

Increased Accessibility

Half of our nursing fees and all occupational and physical therapy fees are not covered by traditional reimbursement rates.

Funds go to create more accessible homes. As our population ages, the need for accessibility increases. Accessible and assistive devices and updates include elevators and ramps, modified eating utensils, and technology like iPads and communication devices. These devices and equipment allow people to be as independent as possible.

Wellness Activities You can help fund innovative wellness programs that are only paid for through fundraising. An annual United Way grant of $70,000 used to pay for wellness ended in 2019. The wellness programs include pet, art and music therapy, fitness, healthy menus, and much more. Personalized wellness activities generate positive health results including reductions in use of medications, reduced falls, improvements in mobility, increased social connections, and lower healthcare costs.

More Community Involvement Our wellness program also includes more access to community outings through tickets to sporting events and other activities. In addition, each of our group homes has a fully accessible van that is made possible through your generous contributions.
