T he circulation takes the visitors on a fluid journey through

the landscape , the exhibits , and to the large winter garden . the exhibition gallery and the winter garden are connected alongside to allow the visitor to meander between them to be able to learn about the environment and then to experience it . the above - ground portion of the building is in the form of a shell , symbolizing protection . the turtle is a significant character in many first nations creation stories , like turtle island . the auditorium portion of the building is buried in the landscape to signify extraction of knowledge , and creates a mound adjacent to the water to resemble ancient aboriginal burial sites . south elevation

mid - rise complex is as a performing arts co - op . the internal courtyard contains space

on the working drawings for this project . the building has a ramping floor that wraps the perimeter as circulation space for the library . on this ramp are book stacks on the north side . the south side of the facade is what we explored more in detail . this facade houses study spaces wrapped by the facade to create alcove - like spaces . the collaboration was to further the design
