INDIAN INSPIRED KITCHEN
CONCEPT
This Indian-inspired kitchen will portray a modern, modular design. Modular kitchens are increasing in popularity around India and are becoming more common. For this kitchen, the cabinets will be painted in a high gloss red paint that will contrast the off-white, polished concrete countertops and off-white walls. The cabinets will have modern pulls on the doors and will all be flush with each other. The light gray/silver backsplash will complement the stainless steel appliances and will offer unity to the space. There will be a peninsula that will create a U-shaped kitchen and will allow for more usable counter space as well as additional seating. Multi-family homes are common in India so there will also be a table with chairs and bench seating for the family to use. On the counter will sit a Masala Dabba, which is a spice box that holds the most commonly used spices.
CAMP CREATIVE
When you walk into the tree inspired cabin, you will be greeted with warm, cozy, neutral earth tones that will be continued throughout the cabin. There will be an accent wall in the living room that will be a sage or forest green and will be paired with a light neutral color on the surrounding walls. There will be a dark brown leather sofa that will convert to a sofa bed for additional sleeping and a matching lounge chair. As for the kitchen, the light neutral paint color will be continued and there will be the same sage or forest green accents.
In the bedroom, there will be another green accent wall and the same light neutral paint color on the surrounding walls. That same light paint will continue into the bathroom and like the kitchen, there will also be green accents. For example, the tile surrounding the shower will be the same sage or forest green which will really make the bathroom pop. Back in the bedroom, there will be a small brown leather bench that will match the leather in the living room and will make the whole space pop. With the

LUCIDA
CONCEPT
John and Elizabeth Cobb are moving into The Lucida luxury apartments on the Upper East Side of Manhattan New York. One of the most important things on their list of must-haves was a mid-century modern style throughout the apartment and furniture selections from their expansive collection. Along with the mid-century modern furniture, the whole apartment will have modern and high-end aspects throughout including artwork, finishes, and fixtures. The Cobbs are hoping this will be a great space to live and entertain for years to come.
TOWNHOUSE
CONCEPT
The Townhouse shown is to be a home away from home on Edisto Island, South Carolina. It will have all of the comforts of home but will not feel like a beach house. There will be dark hardwood floors, accents of blue throughout the townhouse, and all the comfortable furniture imaginable. There will be stainless steel appliances in the kitchen with a white marble countertop. In the bathrooms, the vanity will have a black marble counter and the floors will be a white, porcelain hexagon tile. The bedroom upstairs will have the same dark hardwood floors, a dark blue accent wall contrasted with an off-white paint on the other three walls, light wood nightstands and dresser, and a blue bed frame. On the bed, there will be a white comforter to keep the room feeling light and airy, but also cozy and relaxing. With all of these aspects, this townhouse will really feel like a home away from home.
HURRICANE SHELTER
Concept
Hurricanes are scary and are known to do hefty damage. Families who live on the coasts affected by hurricanes want to know they’re safe from the storm and that is why hurricane shelters are important. In order to make this shelter not look like a bunker, there are homey touches throughout the space. The first floor has an open concept plan with a living room, dining room, kitchen, and powder room. On the second floor, there are two bedrooms connected by a bathroom, the laundry room, and a second living area with a tv. Up to the top floor, there is the primary suite and a guest suite both with walk-in closets. The house is sectioned so everyone has their own space and privacy.

LUCKY BEANS COFFEE SHOP
CONCEPT
Lucky Beans is named after what inspired the theme, a pub. The object of this coffee shop is to look like a modern pub, not one you would walk into in old timey Ireland. Since Lucky Beans is located on the second level of a tenant building, the two exterior walls are curtain walls which provide an abundance of natural light. Inside the coffee shop there will be a variety of different wood tones, greens, reds, and brick. The wooden tables found throughout the coffee shop are balanced out by dark red, leather chairs that accompany them. There are four dark green, leather couches in the corner of the coffee shop to help offset the hardwood throughout the space. Carrying over to the walls, there are brick accents behind the point of sale counter that are mimicked on the bench nook parallel to the four couches. The walls are painted a faded, darker shade of green and are accented by a light neutral color on the curtain wall panels. Lucky beans is a coffee shop for everyone. With the mix of soft leather and hardwood, there is a calm atmosphere that is great for doing work or just grabbing coffee with a friend.
Rendered Floor Plan
CONCEPT
The NEXT project is a vision of the future. The building will feature a variety of futuristic technology and a new innovative workplace. Upon entry there will be a large reception desk that showcases a light up logo for NEXT, with plenty of seating for clients. The work cafe will be adjacent but closed off from the rest of the building for privacy. The work cafe offers plenty of seating and appliances for employees to relax and store their food. Upon entry in the office there will be a large wall where the Connect Zone is displayed to honor clients and employees. The open office space will be in the center of the floorplan with an abundance of configured workstations. The resource room and the virtual reality room will be at the south end of the floorplan and out of the way of the workstations. The virtual reality zone will be a place for clients to immerse themselves in the designs the employees of NEXT create. There will be three conference rooms, small, medium, and large for a variety of workspaces for all employees. A wellness room and the majority of private offices will be placed towards the back of the suite to eliminate noise and create privacy. Phone rooms will be to the right and back of the plan to ensure privacy and noise cancellation as well. Overall the design for the NEXT real estate office showcases the future and innovation.
SENSORY ENVIRONMENTS
Research Notes
- Stay away from institutional-looking designs
- Keep in mind the audio, visual, kinesthetc, and tactile senses
- Have places for those who neeed space to move and be loud as well as those who need quiet and solitude
- Create designs that will benefit everyone who could use them
- People with ASD show rigid and repetitive bahaviors and can sometimes injure themselves
- Individuals with ASD are usually overlooked when it comes to interior design
- Individuals with ASD can still learn skills step by step but have to be taught
- The number of developmental disability cases rises every year so it is important to accomodate those needs as designers
- Quiet zones should be separate from loud zones
- Logically organize objects in spaces
Concept
Overcoming Mountains is a training center for adults with autism. At this training center, the enrolled adults will learn how to live independently and do things for themselves. Inside this facility, there is a mock apartment, a training kitchen, a work training room, a recreation room, and a sensory room. The inside of this facility has muted colors to reduce the amount of stimulation while also keeping it vivacious and not sterile. In the sensory room, there are brighter colors that will help to stimulate the students. This facility is a place where everyone is comfortable and encourages learning.
Research Notes
- Keep in mind the audio, visual, kinesthetic, and tactile senses.

AIRPORT RESTAURANT
Concept
The goal of this restaurant is to feel like a destination before the actual destination. Napoletana will feel more like an actual restaurant, rather than an airport, and is for travelers with a longer layover or wait time before a flight. It will have a cozy atmosphere and will serve simple and casual food. The menu will consist of appetizers, salads, and most importantly, pizza. The pizza portion of the menu will have ready-to-order options as well as build-your-own pizza. They will all be offered in personal, medium, and large sizes to meet the needs of every guest who stops in for a bite to eat. When the guests of Napoletana walk in, they will feel welcomed by a hostess and the smell of delicious pizza. There will be authentic-tasting pizza that will make the traveler wish they were on their way to browse the streets of Rome. To cater to the kids, there will be a pizza-building station where they can watch the chefs make the pizzas and send them off to the kitchen. For the adults who are traveling with a partner or even solo, there will be bar and banquette seating. Napoletana will have a fun, patterned, black-and-white tile floor. The floor will contrast with the dark green wood bar and accent piece on the left wall, and the dark green leather banquette. The walls will be a light cream color and will also help to give contrast to the darker colors. The banquette seating area will primarily be for solar or partner travelers. There will also be free-standing tables that will seat two travelers. On the right side of the restaurant, there will be tables to seat up to four people. These will be for families who are traveling and may have children with them. These tables are also by the pizza building station for easy sight and supervision of the children. In the back right corner of the seating area, there will be a bar. The bar is mostly for solo and partner travelers. Here, guests will be able to have a casual drink and order food. Although there is a bar, the guests will be able to order drinks from any table in the restaurant. Walking straight through the restaurant, there will be more private seating. These tables will be able to seat up to four guests and will overlook the tarmac. This area will feel like sitting on a patio outside of a restaurant. To go along with the seating, there will be an option to order your food to-go if the guest would rather grab their food and wait by their gate. Napoletana will be a relaxing restaurant where travelers can sit, eat, rest, and recharge before hopping on a plane to their next destination.
Space : There was ample space in the model and was used to elevate the design. With more space, there was more room to add more unique features and seating for the restaurant.
Light: The laurge windows allow more natural light in so during the day there won’t have to be as much artificial light. The windows are also being used to add a view for the guests at Napoletana.
Variety : When looking at the model, strategies were chosen that would give guests the option to have a variety of seating options. This design gives allows for table seating, banquette seating, and bar seating.
Emphasis : Through a window, you will be able to see some chefs making pizzas and then a large and in-charge bar in the back right of the restaurant. Both will create emphasis in the restaurant.
Proportion : When thinking about space planning for the restaurant, more seating is better. The proportions in my seating area were conducive to having adequate seating. Shape and Form : The shape and form of the restaurant are simple and open. The shape of the walls was normal and flat so features could be added to them to enhance the design.
CAPSTONE
Concept
Penn and Paper will be a bookstore in the heart of the Fishtown suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Of the three possible locations, Fishtown is the one that fits best for the store. The clients want this bookstore to have a vintage and industrial aesthetic and with Fishtown being an old industrial fishing town, this is the best option. During the feasibility study, it was also discovered that the median age of residents in Fishtown is 33 years old and many households have children. Fishtown is only 3 miles from downtown Philadelphia and there is easy access to expressways and interstates. The goal of Penn and Paper is to be a fun place for all ages to come and dive into a cup of coffee or a good book. The overall aesthetic of the bookstore will play off of the old factory which will give it an industrial feel. The lounge furniture will be vintage as well as have custom circular banquettes that all go with the color scheme of dark orange, dark, dusty blue, and brown. These colors will pair well with the historic elements that are brought in from the existing building. The goal is to keep the factory as is and build and design within the space. The lighting will be suspended from the ceiling and will help give the space a cozy feeling. The softness of the furniture and added accessories, like rugs, will contrast with the hardness of the industrial building. The layout of the interior will draw your eyes to the back of the store and will help keep customers moving.

Texture Quilt
For this assignment, we were instructed to find photos with interesting context and cut them into 1”x1” squares and assemble them into a grid. We then had to draw that grid of images using different graded pencils.
Clock Drawing
In Drawing I, we were given an assignment to draw an object in our homes with ink. I chose this clock that sits in my living room due to its interesting design. I took a photo for reference and kept the flash on to see the light reflection on the cylindrical legs.
Fabric Painting
This is a painting assignment I did in Basic Design II. The object of the assignmemt was to find a piece of fabric with a floral pattern and paint it with lighter and darker tones and complementary colors. We were also instructed to match the color of the original piece of fabric which was attached to the canvas
Painted Dock
For this assignment, we had to find a photo that we took and paint it using a pointilism technique. I chose a picture of a dock

INDUSTRIAL TASK LAMP
CONCEPT
The original idea behind my lamp was for it to be a flower inspired task lamp. That idea changed during the building process. This lamp is able to sit on the corner of a desk and the base does not take up too much space. PVC pipe ended up being the best option for the structure of the lamp. Initially, the plan was to use steel pipe but was discovered to be too small for the wiring to go through and was much heavier. That is when the decision to use spray painted PVC pipe came about. This lamp is to look balanced and symmetrical so there are no added features on the sides. For the bulb, a 60w led bulb is a good choice as it will not get hot and has the right color temperature for its purpose.

Rocking Bird Chair
Concept
The Rocking Bird Chair is designed for the person who wants to recline and rock in the comfort of their home. The inspiration for this chair is the letter U but quickly started looking like a bird. At first, this chair was to be designed more for form rather than function but changed to be a functional form. The rocking base of the chair will be made of wood and the cushion of the chair will be foam covered in polyester upholstery fabric due to its resistance to stains and durability. While using this chair, many different comfortable positions can be achieved. Having the ability to sit comfortably in different positions makes this chair versatile and well suited for people of all ages and sizes.
Ergonomics
As for the ergonomic aspects of this chair, the back is tall enough for taller individuals and can comfortably seat shorter individuals as well. The leg portion of the chair is designed to give support to the legs and knees. The seat height is roughly 19 inches which is a good seat height. The seat width is 2 feet wide which will allow for plenty of room on either side of the individual using the chair.
