Re-Energizing Chicago is a research-based proposal
→
examining the city through the lens of Systems Theory. Research, mapping, and diagraming focused on the flow of materials, people, and money through urban systems. These included transportation infrastructure, data distribution networks, and the river ecosystem, with a particular emphasis on current trends such as Divvy bike sharing, the expansion of broadband cabling, and the invasion of the Asian Carp species. These flows were overlaid in a synthetic map and used to determine opportunity areas at points where the systems intersected and interacted. Finally, a proposal for intervention in these opportunity areas was created in order to optimize flows, increasing the use of local resources and decreasing waste. page 4
