RE-ENERGIZING CHICAGO, pg4

I am a student at the Illinois Institute of

Technology and will graduate with a Master of Architecture in May 2014. My graduate work has included a variety of projects within Chicago with a consistent focus on the social capacity of contextualized architecture to foster new relationships between people and spaces. My undergraduate studies focused on Mechanical Engineering and have helped me gain a strong aptitude for the technical, structural, and environmental aspects of the built environment. I am seeking employment DW DQ RIĂ€FH WKDW FDQ KHOS PH FXOWLYDWH design and visual communication skills, as well as an increased understanding of the technical and managerial side of the architecture industry.

examining the city through the lens of Systems Theory. Research, mapping, and diagraming focused on the flow of materials, people, and money through urban systems. These included transportation infrastructure, data distribution networks, and the river ecosystem, with a particular emphasis on current trends such as Divvy bike sharing, the expansion of broadband cabling, and the invasion of the Asian Carp species. These flows were overlaid in a synthetic map and used to determine opportunity areas at points where the systems intersected and interacted. Finally, a proposal for intervention in these opportunity areas was created in order to optimize flows, increasing the use of local resources and decreasing waste. page 4

BLOOMINGDALE TRAIL CONNECTION

T

he Bloomingdale Trail Connection proposes multiple routes to connect the planned Bloomingdale Trail to the Lakefront Trail, including means to cross the highway, railroads, and river that mark its end. MERIT MUSIC CONSERVATORY

T

he Merit Music Conservatory is a proposed college for 200 students and an extension of the neighboring Merit School for younger students. The design intent is to foster a dynamic relationship between public users (concert- and cafĂŠ-goers) and private users (students, faculty, and administrators). This is accomplished in a central atrium, which separates but also links the private and public areas. The circulation through this space, consisting of a processional staircase with Private Spaces bridges to connect across the atrium, is inspired by Concert Hall - Stage DLU Ă RZ WKURXJK YDOYH LQVWUXPHQWV SURYLGLQJ FOHDU Classrooms direction towards concert hall and rehearsal room.
