CONSOLIDATING THE TRUCE

UniVersità degli stUdi mediterranea di reggio calaBria

2015/2016 rome

Valle galeria shows the phenomenology of a disputed territory theater for more than 30 years of enviromental and social conflicts due to the presence in the area of productive activities (landfill Malagrotta, refinery, quarries, deposits of gas and fuel...).

these have transformed the character, the features of the landscape and impoverishes social life.

The closure of landfill in 2013 by decision of the City of rome marked a new phase of truce to be consilidated with an energetic action of reconstruction of the landscape of the valley in order to bring it quality and enviromental equilibrium and stimulate social reappropriation of the space.

MACRO 7

Originally in scale 1:10.000.

Phenomenology of a disputed territory: landscape permanence, land conflict, areas open to change.

RETURN TO VALUE

A renaturation process proposes the introduction af a new trees and shrubs cover as a part of the natural component of the landscape infrastructure, with function and organization of the free space of the suffering and fragmented landscape of the Valle Galeria.

FOREST LAND AND PARK (0-10 years)

The forest land is part of the agricoltural system and it is intended for the production with poplars while the forest park identifies areas for social inclusion.

TRANSIT FOREST (0-20 years)

Is a system of connective crossable reforestation made of Mediterranean shrub and establishing a relationship between parts of the territory. The ring around Malagrotta landfill has a double role: it closes and isolates the hill-dump waiting time for cleaning up and qualifies and makes viable spaces immediately outside.

RE-GENERATED FOREST (0-50 years)

It contributes to the restoration of function through actions of reforestation originating near the reserve Macchia Grande and developing according to a double North-east (Massimina district) and South-east direction (refinery).

RETHINKING CASALE CALETTO

eXam of enViromental planning

tUtor: faBriZio tUcci

2014/2015 rome

casale caletto is an area located in the eastern suburbs of rome near the aniene river.

it is a controversial area, often associated with crime and degradation, but it is also an area beloved by its residents that can be rethink as a self sufficient district from an energy point of view.

This is my work which lasted about five months.

VIEW OF THE BIRDWATCHING TOWER

FIRST APPROACH TO THE DISTRICT

In this area there is an abundance of poorly maintained green areas, some urban vegetable garden and several parking lots. The first thing to think about is: Is possible to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants? How can I connect the district to the river?

Through a combined project

MASTERPLAN

THE IDEA OF THE TANKS

The tanks can assume multiple functions and be elements of landmarks within an area that doesn’t have a strong and consolidated identity.

They can be of observation points for birdwatching near the river, water tanks for vegetable and flower gardens.

The existing buildings become part of the project. green roofs, solar panels and colored walls increase environmental sustainability and improve quality in the neighborhood.

The river’s achievement is facilitated by the creation of natural paths.

VIEW OF THE WILDFLOWER GARDENS

The spaces between the buildings are designed with the wildflower gardens and natural path.

Above them there are the colored decorative canopies for shelter and for the passage between the buildings.

ON THE ROAD

sUrface of the eVeryday life interpretations and Visions for togliatti road

tUtor: gianni celestini

eXhiBition: Biennale spa Zio pUBBlico, rome Biennale, Venice

2014/2015

the road is the habitat of the organism-city, thanks to its ability to reactivate in the city metabolisms atrophied and rusty. the idea for Via togliatti aims to transform the way from potential insecurity rise to manned space. the active social life becomes a spontaneous garrison and a way to reduce segregation and marginalization of vulnerable groups of population.

the road must be thought of as one expressive space able to help to build a new urban quality through the rethinking of its material components.

the three activation principles to work on to make the road-system a significant interface are: SOIL, actiVities, Visions

rome

THE CONCEPT: USE THE NATURE

It is a linear project that has as its main element the vegetation and joined by the bus line that links three tube stations, recognizable through a colorful soil, combining the system from beginning to end.

PROJECT IN IDEOGRAM

In itself the project has several elements that can make the road attractive in all its 8 km. It starts and ends with the incremental spaces, convertible areas with different uses depending on the time of day.

Then there is the urban forest, the natural island, transepts connection, micro woods, a meadow and a natural comb...

THE MASTERPLAN

It is a linear project that has as its main element the vegetation and joined by the bus line that links three tube stations, recognizable through a colorful soil, combining the system from beginning to end.

THE MICRO WOOD

On the road there will be a system of micro forests to enhance the naturalness of the area. They will function as public parks to be closed at sunset. In the future they can also have educational and research purposes.

1.50€ FOR 14 KM OF GARDENS

the tramway 19 as a system for read and interpret the different landscapes of the consolidated city.

the thesis proposes the creation of a linear park on the tram line 19, which with its 14 km is the longest tramway in the capital.

the purpose of this study is to think of a tramway, generally used only as a crossover system of the city, as a carrier of an open air museum formed by gardens and different landscapes to contemplate, discover and live in their multiple shades for the cost of 1.50 €, the price of the Bit, the temporary daily ticket of rome.

rome

UNDERSTANDING THE CONTEXT

Currently the tramway consists of 40 km.

Connections and intersections of the tramway in the city. The line 19 reaches 14.3 km and crosses four other tram lines.

DIAGNOSIS OF THE COMPONENTS

Study of areas and activities that grow around line 19, which is the main line of internal connection to the city.

There are plenty of museums, places of worship and schools

INVESTIGATE OPPORTUNITIES

Tram 19 runs through five municipalities and combines many environmental organizations and groups to safeguard the ecosystem and animals

STUDY THE PROGRAMMATIC PLANS

The forecasts of the plans are important to understand the future developments of the territory. Around the line can be recognized some systems that divide the area into 4 sections: the relationship between the Tiber and the consolidated city, the system of the big established public parks, the transformation close to the railway and the empty spaces that are not configured yet.

RECOGNIZE THE POTENTIALITIES

The tramway there are about 50 stops, some used more than others.

The thing that is known less is that on the line there are more than two hundred significant species of flora and fauna.

Them can be observed along the line from start to finish takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes for the entire trip.

The thesis proposes the creation of a linear park on the tram line 19

The intention of this project is to increase environmental variety, creating new spaces which will make it even more abundant.

So the idea of thinking 35 new spaces of different sizes and themes that will form four macro-themes. The first, the rethinking of the barracks on the river through the water, remember the symbiotic relationship between Rome and the Tiber. The second, about the established parks and the historic villas, will present many exotic species with colored asphalt and will direct the people to the big green areas also rich in their non-native vegetation. The third, on the transformations around the railway, will be joined by the common sense of the ancient traditions and the Roman mythologies. Finally the last, with the strong presence of large spaces not configured, will be about the vegetable and spontaneous social re-appropriations of the heterogeneous cultures of the city.

REFERENCE LETTERS

A Laura CECCONI (Roma, 11/12/1990)
