The Stenocara Beetle, or Darkling Beetle, has the ability to collect drinking water from fog or dew collected along the unique texture of its shell. With the repelling and attracting nature of shell’s texture, water collected from the dew or fog follows a path toward the insect’s mouth. This provides inspiration for a water collection system that can be implemented in a disaster situation to collect clean drinking water.

BIOPHILIC DESIGN

DESCRIPTION: The guidelines required each person to research biophilia and become inspired by something found in nature. The Armadillo, more specifically it’s armor, drove this specific concept. Other requirements included design a wall incorporating a water feature, accent lighting, HVAC system, passage through the wall, a set of stairs and a surface or tile modeled in rhino. Using a CAD file and laser cutter, two detail models were derived, and built from the design.

OBJECTIVE: Continue to develop space planning and human relationships to space, understand all materials and their use in spaces, further develop an understanding of construction documents and the relationship to drawing notations.

RETAIL DESIGN

SPRING 2016 | DIGITAL FABRICATION

DESCRIPTION: By incorporating the biomimicry wall from the previous project, the requirements were to further the biomimicry concept to create a retail store within the L.N. Gross Co. Building in Kent, OH. The type of clothing was able to be chosen, but it needed to fit the demographics of the surrounding area. The concept previously developed was further driven through the floor plan, finish selections and other areas of this particular project. PROGRAMS: Revit, Photoshop, InDesign

5x5 line motif

Scaled Motif Alignment

FALL 2014 | FOUNDATIONS STUDIO I

DESCRIPTION: Lines were connected between various plotted points (top left) within a 5x5 perimeter. This then turned into a three-dimensional study of how the forms interact and affect one another. The beginning motif was simplified, scaled, repeated and rotated to create movement within the connected points. These lines turned into either modeled forms, planes, or lines to show movement represented through materiality.

Media Two-Point Perspective

DESCRIPTION: An abstract object was modeled based off of the interpretation of an abstracted image. Multiple media studies were completed and the final model was drafted using the techniques of twopoint perspective. Materiality was then added through collage and watercolor to fully drive the conceptual design.
