Dear Parents and Students
Welcome to Latymer Upper School . It is a real joy to be able to host you today and we are delighted that you and your child are considering joining our community.
As I start my third year of Headship at Latymer, it’s exciting for me to meet the next generation of potential Latymerians as much as it is to get to know the current students There is no such thing as a ‘typical’ Latymerian. Try to pigeonhole our vibrant and eclectic student body and you pretty quickly come unstuck.
As one of the leading independent day schools in the country, we continue to offer today’s students a life-changing education. Our School’s ethos of social inclusivity is as strong today as it was in 1624 when Edward Latymer, a prosperous lawyer, left part of his wealth for the clothing and education of ‘eight poore boyes’ from Hammersmith. Latymer offers a diverse and dynamic environment in which students from all walks of life learn together and are exposed to different perspectives – a valuable lesson in itself. This is in part due to our ambitious bursary programme. With the culmination of ourInspiringMindsCampaign in 2024, we raised enough funds to be able to offer 1 in 4 of our students a means-tested bursary. We are one of the most inclusive independent schools in the country. I’m proud of our Latymerians; they’re academic, rounded and grounded – and they care about each other as well as those who may need help in the local and global community. We aim to prepare our students to live lives of consequence as mindful citizens of a rapidly changing 21st century world, so it is no surprise that Latymerians have been behind a wide range of initiatives that have earned global recognition (and a fair few awards), a legacy of which Edward Latymer would be proud.
Again and again, our visitors tell me it's the student-led tours that make the deepest impression - not just the world-class facilities but the way our students bring them to life. Watching them share their pride, their passions and the sheer range of what this wonderful School has to offer, is one of the most rewarding parts of my role.
I hope you'll be inspired by the way our students feel about life at Latymer, whether it's a scientific discovery they've made, creativity in the Performing Arts Centre, or a love of sport nurtured at our incredible new Sports Ground in Chiswick. As you hear our students speak, you'll see how a Latymer education fills them with the confidence and curiosity not just to make the most out of life here, but to shape the world around them, now and long after they've left our School gates.
With my best wishes,
Susan Wijeratna, Head
We strongly believe that the life-changing education we offer should be accessible to bright children who do well in our entrance assessments, regardless of their financial background. One in four of our Upper School students benefit from a bursary, worth on average 83% of fees. Bursaries are available for 2026 entry. Indicate your need for a bursary on the registration form. Please visit our website for more information on how to make an application. At the time of application you will be asked to complete a full financial disclosure form. If you have any questions please do contact Admissions on 020 8148 4519 or admissions@latymer-upper.org.
In Year 7 students are assigned to tutor groups that meet daily. These will be small groups of between 16 and 18 students. They are taught in classes of 24, and will always have some other students from their tutor group with them. This allows for small groups for pastoral care whilst allowing students to meet and get to know more of their year group in different contexts. Incoming Year 7 students will be the second cohort to benefit from our new and exciting Curriculum Reform.
In the first two years at Latymer, we provide a broad and stimulating curriculum that exposes our students to the widest possible range of subject disciplines to inspire their future learning choices.
In Years 7 and 8, lessons cover the following disciplines:
