Be prepared the night before on call assignments. ( Lunch, uniform, gas in your car etc. Start your day right. )
Get quality rest between shifts. ( dark room, ear plugs, cool room temperature, and speak to your family about the importance of getting your rest.)
Stick to the program. We all have gate times. Much like an airline. going to the locker room or having a conversation after your official start time will just work against you. Be ready to walk to your tractor and pre-trip at your start work.
Be crystal clear on where you are going. Have your run reviewed with a supervisor if you are unsure. DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING!

Work with a sense of urgency, but never cut corners in terms of safety. YOUR SAFETY IS NUMBER ONE PRIORITY!

Phones are allowed, but there is a time and a place for them. They should not be used while pre or post tripping, hooking or dropping, or anytime the vehicle is in motion on ups property, a customer’s property, or at a rail yard. This includes Bluetooth Headsets.

Stick to a routine. A routine is efficient and safe. A good routine will help you stay focused and help catch things you may have otherwise missed.

If things aren’t going as planned, put yourself on delay; send an IVIS message, and contact dispatch or a supervisor. DON’T SIT SILENT! Stay in communication with dispatch.

Your loads should be closed and ready. If they are not, put yourself on delay, ( TRAILER NOT READY DELAY ), and message dispatch as well as call. You must notify a dock supervisor that you are waiting on the trailer and then wait inside by your door. DO NOT SIT IN YOUR TRACTOR!

If you are told that someone will call you back, and you don’t hear back in 15 minutes, call them back.
Once one the road, please follow the designated route. Again, should you encounter any unforeseen delay such as road closures or inclement weather that may delay you from arriving on time, or making sort, CALL DISPATCH IMMEDIATELY!
