Products upholstered in distressed leather are distinctively designed to give the much sought-after effect of a well loved family heirloom • Distressed upholstered furniture is made from high-grade, full-grain leather specially treated to give an aged look • The leather used on these ranges has all its natural marks and scars if present, left fully exposed, and there will be significant variances in texture and shading individual to each piece. These are testament to the genuine origin of the product, that form part of the design of the piece and do not affect durability • After the furniture is upholstered the leather is further treated with six stages of hand staining and waxing to emphasise the aged look of an antiqued chair which ensures that no two pieces are exactly alike • Legs are polished hardwood, stained to look distressed, complementing the appearance of the leather.

Flint
Genuine leather is natural and warm with individual characteristics. Laura Ashley uses high quality full and semi aniline leathers, many tanned using water based dyes or pigments and finished with natural substances such as beeswax. This allows the natural markings, scars, shade variation and beautiful characteristics of authentic leather to be enjoyed. Each leather piece is unique and will show some colour variation.
True beauty comes with maturity
With a little care, leather will improve with age. After a time all leathers will relax and mould comfortably from use especially those with fixed seats. Occasionally, the odd mark or scratch can occur and colours may mellow, which will simply enhance the unique appearance of your piece and add extra character. Leather is an investment for the future to be enjoyed for many years to come.

Leather Features
Some of our leathers have extra character with distressed and wax finishes which create more significant variations in texture and colour, with enhanced markings under the wax. Pull up may be evident, where Leather is stretched taut for perfect upholstery this can cause it to appear lighter in colour, especially across tighter areas. It’s more obvious on wax finishes which are also susceptible to scratching; and the crackle effect will vary for a truly individual look.

For an authentic look, all of the natural blemishes, markings and unique colour shading are visible. Some have semi-distressed and waxed finishes for more variance in character, texture and shade.

Scars are recognised as dark lines and marks in the leather which are a natural feature of all high quality leather and don’t affect durability. Some of our leathers have had the surface texture removed and a finish applied, giving a more uniform appearance, although characteristics and scars may still be visible. Several hides are used to cover a sofa so variation in colour and texture may occur between the different parts of a piece to create a unique effect. Loose or Fixed Covers

• Loose covers on selected Products present a more casual fit, offering versatility for cleaning and updating your look. Regular re-dressing will be required to keep the covers neat and tidy. • All loose covers have up to a 3% allowance for shrinkage after initial cleaning and may not fit tightly on arrival. • Fixed covers are more tailored and can be professionally cleaned in situ. • Loose covers cannot be fitted over fixed cover products.
Sofa Beds
Ideal as an occasional extra bed for accommodating guests, sofa beds contain a bed mechanism under the seat cushion which makes them a little firmer than a standard sofa.

SEAT PADS, FILLINGS AND SEAT COVERS
Our pads contain high quality fillings carefully calculated to give the correct lift for each range. All pad fillings will compress when used, just like a pillow. The appearance and performance of your pads can be restored and preserved by regular maintenance. Follow these simple steps as soon as your furniture is in use:-
Fibre
• This is a soft and comfortable filling. • Plump cushions and pads firmly on the edges after each day’s use to restore air between the fibres. • At least weekly, beat vigorously on each of the four sides, the more often this is carried out, the better the filling will perform.
Foam with Fibre Wrap
• This is a firmer and more supportive filling than fibre which will soften with use. • Plump cushions and pads firmly on the edges occasionally to restore air between the fibres and maintain the shape.
Feather (available on selected ranges only)
• This is a luxury pad filling and will flatten with use. It is easily restored with the same maintenance as fibre pads.
All Pad Fillings
• Fillings which are not maintained correctly from the beginning will bind and become difficult to restore, losing comfort and shape. • Swap reversible cushions around and turn where possible to ensure equal wear. Non-reversible cushions should have the pad removed from the cover and turned over regularly. • Leather and selected upholstery ranges have cushion covers which are not fully reversible. • The feel of the seat will vary dependent on the fabric and size chosen. Fabric compositions differ from fabric to fabric which can give a more relaxed or firmer feel to the seat when in use. Larger versions of a range have more pad surface area for air to escape and will feel different to smaller models, consider this in your selection.

FABRIC AND LEATHER UPHOLSTERY CARE • Regularly remove everyday dust and dirt, by gently vacuuming fabric with an upholstery brush, or dusting leather with a soft cloth. • Avoid contact with chemicals, eg. hair products, suncream and moisturising creams. • Remove all spills immediately by blotting with a clean dry white cloth, don’t rub or use abrasive cleaners. Should a spill result in a stain, refer to your Guardsman Protection Plan (right) or seek professional advice. • All fabrics and leather can be affected by heat and light, position away from direct sunlight and at least 30cm from heat sources to protect from fading and premature wear. • Avoid exposure to excessively high or low temperatures or damp conditions. • Lift furniture, don’t drag, to avoid damage to legs and joints, and gently tighten legs from time to time. • Stand on a level surface to avoid rocking and damage to the legs or frame.
Leather
• Use our Leather Care Collection to help treat everyday soiling, scratches and marks. Contents include: 250ml leather cleaner, 250ml leather protector, cloth, sponge and a guide to application and use. 3335 641 £30 (not suitable for Colorado leather)
Fabric
• Clean fabric upholstery at least every 12-18 months, follow the specific instructions for each fabric carefully and always check the label as recommended care for the fabric may differ from the recommended care for the upholstered product. • Fabric by the metre and loose covers are suitable either P Dry Clean Only or P Sensitive Dry Clean Only. • Fixed covers should be professionally cleaned in situ by a specialist upholstery cleaner only. Safeclean by Guardsman, the Furniture Care Specialists (0800 585 693), provide professional and expert cleaning care service. • Many of our fabrics have a protective coating applied at the time of manufacture to help repel spills (excludes fabrics marked 6), however, periodic cleaning of the entire piece is still essential to maintain appearance and protect from fading and premature wear. • Clean co-ordinated items at the same time and always allow for 3% shrinkage upon the first clean
