Pop-up show 6 - 9 July, 2017 Private View - Thursday 6th July 2017, 6.30 - 9 pm 5 Avenue de l’Opéra, Paris France Periferia Projects in collaboration with Cali Blackwell, Camille Shortridge, Hermine Adrian, Lassla Esquivel & Valeria MacDowall are pleased to present KALEIDOSCOPE, a group show that brings together a selection of works on paper by 11 artists from Latin America. The exhibition is produced by Periferia Projects, a curatorial platform creating connections from Latin America to the UK and Europe. Periferia's focus is to develop projects with artists from emerging hubs to enhance their visibility and promote collaboration with new galleries, artists and institutions. This show will take place in a historical building located in the heart of Paris, directly next to the timeless Opéra Garnier, Louvre Museum, and Palais Royal. This building houses the dynamic program of the French Grand École, IESA; Institut d’Études Supérieures des Arts, connecting local and international talents within the artistic community. This show connects Latin American & Parisian art scene to open dialogue about artistic & collecting practices in both regions. Some of the works have been on display in prior exhibitions in both London and most recently in Budapest at K.A.S Gallery. Paris now gives continuity to this series of exhibitions. KALEIDOSCOPE aims to share contemporary works by Latin American artists on a global scale. The exhibition lays out Latin American artists' standpoints and aims to make them visible to the spectator not through constructed stereotype of otherness, but instead proposes an immersion into these artists' own perspectives with universal language influenced by their own contexts. It focuses on works that use paper as means to express their individuality. Like a kaleidoscope, viewers are invited to observe the artwork through a lense that mirrors the variety of facets of Latin American art, beyond the expected and biased societal stereotypes such as cultural heritage. The paper, as a medium, allows for such exploration of different perspectives. At a time when immigration and diversity are in the news everyday, KALEIDOSCOPE is an exhibition which invites the audience to reconsider stereotypes, notions and even expectations of the Other. www.periferia-projects.com
