GOD’S POWER

Those who leave everything in God's hands will eventually see God's hand in everything. Every test in our life makes us bitter or better, every problem comes to break us or make us. The choice is ours whether we become a Victim or a Victor. Instead of letting problems DISCOURAGE YOU, use them as reminders to see God. God has placed you where you're at in this moment for a reason. Remember that and trust that HE is working EVERYTHING out for YOU! Faith doesn't always mean that God changes your situation. Sometimes it means he changes YOU. In Jeremiah 29:11, it says: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD. The Lord has plans for you to prosper and not to harm you. He has plans to give you hope and a future.

Please join us in Sunday School, each Sunday after 8:00 a.m. Service. Here are the lessons for May/June:

Those times when you feel like quitting can be the times of GREAT opportunity. God uses your troubles to help you grow. CORONAVIRUS be still and know that I am God.

“A MOTHER'S LOVE Mother's Day is the special time of year when you get to celebrate our first best friend and the person you always turn to when you need advice. Mother's Day is also a great time to show your love for all the other wonderful women in your life. Our moms are our superheroes and biggest supporters, but we usually don't tell them enough how much they're appreciated. On her special day, tell your mom how much she means to you. A mother is your first friend, your best friend, your forever friend. When you are looking at your mother, you are looking at the purest love you will ever know. Mother is the heartbeat in the home; and without her, there seems to be no heartthrob. Mothers are like glue. Even when you can't see them, they're still holding the family together. Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children. The influence of a mother in the lives of her children is beyond calculation. It may be possible to gild pure gold, but who can make his mother more beautiful? There is no role in life that is more essential than that of motherhood. Youth fades; love droops; the leaves of friendship fall; a mother's secret hope outlives them all. Only mothers can think of the future because they give birth to it in their children. Motherhood is the exquisite inconvenience of being another person's everything. Submitted by Sis. Sheryl Gray

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS: TIMELY ADVICE FOR RISING SENIORS Ellin Richardson Spring of your junior year in high school is usually a busy and exciting time, filled with campus tours and SAT/ACT/AP testing. And while this spring will be different than any of us anticipated, there are still things that you can do to get ready for the college admissions process. STANDARDIZED TESTING On April 15, 2020, The College Board announced that the June 6th test date has been cancelled. They are hoping to provide weekend SAT administrations every month through the end of 2020 starting in August. This will include a new test date in September as well as the previously scheduled tests on August 29th, October 3rd, November 7th and December 5th. Students will be able to register for these test dates beginning in May. The College Board is working with high schools and colleges to provide increased test center capacity so any student who wants to register is able to do so. Also, many school districts are working with The College Board to create opportunities for test administration during the school day starting in the fall. Most test preparation companies are now offering options for students to take a practice test or complete test prep online using Zoom or a similar platform. Finally, in the past few weeks, a number of colleges and universities announced plans to become "test optional" for the next year or two, starting with the Class of 2021. Double check college websites for updated information on testing requirements as changes are happening quickly! THE COMMON APPLICATION If you haven't already done so, log into https://www.commonapp.org and create an account. Please be sure to keep track of your password; sharing it with a parent or guardian is a good idea. You should be able to complete most of the questions and any work you complete will be saved during the Account Rollover in late July. Please note that college specific questions and recommender invitations will not rollover. Essay Writing: The Common Application announced earlier this year that they are not planning to change their essay prompts for the class of 2021. This is a great time to start working on your main essay! The essay provides students with the opportunity to make their application stand out. Brainstorm with a parent or friend. Consider what is really meaningful to you. Think about what you want colleges to know about you that will not be found in other parts of your application. VIRTUAL TOURS AND SOCIAL MEDIA College tours are an important part of the admissions process, but right now most schools are not offering on-site visits. As an alternative, virtual tours, which can be found on many school websites, are a good way to help you "visit" classrooms, dormitories, dining halls and other locations on campus. You can also consider following schools on social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. 4 Fun Activities to Try with Your Kids Getting children excited about prayer can be challenging. Images of people praying typically show someone standing calmly with their head bowed and eyes closed. That's hard for many people, let alone a kid who's now stuck at home all day. But prayer is simply talking with the God who says, "let the children come to me." God loves to hear the honest cries of your children's hearts. Helping your kids talk openly with God now will also impact the way they view prayer in the years to come. So, here are 4 easy prayer activities to help your family pursue God through prayer. 1. Count Your Blessings At the end of each day, spend 5-10 minutes talking about a few things that blessed your family. After everyone's shared, thank God for the good He's done in your life that day. Modeling thankfulness for your kids now will help shape the way they remember hard seasons. (Plus, focusing on your blessings can help lower stress levels.) 2. Pray Through the Week Each week, pick a theme with your kids. (It could be a country, a person, or something your children love.) Every day, have a child pray for that theme and allow whoever prays to choose a theme-related activity for you to do together. (Need activity ideas? You can find Bible-based coloring pages and Adventure Books here.) 3. Go on a Nature Walk The next time you go outside, ask your children to point out anything that makes them smile. Take turns thanking God for creating the beauty around you. Try to enjoy the world through their eyes, together. 4. Pray through Praise Songs Everything you do can be an act of worship. Pick one of your children's favorite worship songs and sing it together. Make that song your prayer for the day. Or, if you or your children are musical, pick a Psalm or the Lord's Prayer and put it to music. When prayer is a daily activity that your children look forward to, you help show them that they can talk to God anywhere, at any time, for any reason. And, by letting go of any expectations for what their prayers should look like, you make space for your kids to creatively express themselves to God. Courtesy of youversion.com
