LAW OFFICEFLOORPLAN

N.T.S.

The floorplan was divided into two main areas, the receptionist desk and the waiting area. The two spaces were designed to emphasize the unique geometry of the space and to create an asymmetrical balance that reflects on the work of the artist Yayoi Kusama.

The Images selected to be used as decoration for the space are pieces created by Yayoi Kusama. The materials and finishes used throughout the space were inspired directly by her work and were used to create an eclectic and exciting reception area.

THE MICRO APARTMENT

The objective of The Micro Apartment was to create a multifunctional apartment layout for young professionals moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma. As a means of welcoming young professionals into the city it was requested that the apartmens deisgn be inspired by the city of Tulsa. In alignment with this request, the space was designedin the Art Deco style of designed which the city is known for, as well as the Center of the Universe attraction which is based on phenomenon of echoes. The space provides the user space to sleep, live, work, and exercise all within a space less than six hundred square feet.

UPPER FLOORPLAN

N.T.S.

Due to the high ceilings provided by the apartment, a lofted area was included in the space in order to maximize the avalable space. This was also done as a means to spearate the sleeping space from the living and working spaces as the targeted user would be doing a lot of remote work.

An echo occurs when a sound makes contact with a hard surface and is reflected back to the source of the soud. An Echo can also be defined as a close parallel or repitiion of an idea, feeling, style, or event. The apartment is directly inspired be The Center of the Universe in Tulsa, Oklahoma and the city’s rich history of art deco architecture. Just as the city echoes the history of art deco, the space echoes productivitty, history, relaxation and comfort through the selection of furnishings, materials, and finishes.

Concept Development

The Objective of the Logans Circle

Row House was to redesign an hisorical victorian rowhouse that had previously endured a fire for the Walker family. The residence required a design that tended to various needs of the family of three while using the space efficiently and incorporating the families design requirements as well as tieing the design to history of the 1800s. In conjunction with the family’s dynamic and multiple needs, multiple spaces including home offices, a game room, a rooftop terrace, and a mudroom were all incorporated into this unique design. In order to tie the design of the house to the 1800s, the concept of this residence relies on the fundamentals of ragtime music and its popularity during that time as well as the concepts of purposeful displacement and syncopation.

Ragtime is a style of music that is defined by its syncopated or ragged rhythm. During the late 1800s, ragtime music brought life to the United States through the use of syncopation which is the displacement of a beatfrom its regular and assumed course of meter. In this case, unlike other genres of music, the offbeat keeps the music on track. Syncopation causes an individual to feel a propulsion, swing, and if played correctly, a musical looseness generally unknown to thepublic at large. The design of this row house in Logan circle will be centered around purposeful displacement. An off beat.

A Ragtime home, where Victorian characteristics and modern accents are introduced to a newly renovated historical home to create anoffbeat home that sounds just right. The juxtapositions of the design bring life to thespace much like ragtime music brought life to America in the 1890s. It allows the user to be in two different time periods at once to createA new beat, a new sound, a new home.

The objective of the Keeneland Development labs was to create a multifuntional office space in an octagonal building that promotes productivity, community, art, and wellness while accomodating dozens of employees within multiple spaces. A factor of the design was to incorporate in some way the art of the American photographer

Ansel Adams. Through the concept derived from the work of the famous photographer, the final product is a space that reflects the diversity of nature translated into the everchanging atmosphere of an office which is reflected in the selection of furniture, materials and finishes.

The concept of the space intricately intertwines Ansel Adams’ artistic mastery with the evolving nature of technology. Adams’ deliberate choice of black and white photography, echoed in this design, aims to direct the viewer’s focus solely on nature’s exaggerated beauty without the distraction of colors. Much like the filtered lens of Adams’ photographs, this design leverages technology to control and shape the environment, creating a distinct atmosphere in each workspace. By employing natural lighting and elements in different rooms, the design mirrors the changing seasons, embracing the duality of nature and technology. The intentional use of theseelements not only pays homage to Adams’ visual language but also invites occupants to interpret and engage with the evolving ambiance of the space. This harmoniousblend of technology and natural elements encourages a dynamic, ever-evolving workenvironment, promoting a sense of energy, evolution, and change within the office space.

The objective of the University Welless Center was to create a space where students in need of a mental break could go. The idea of the space is centered around the fact that many students in need of mental help will not seek it from professionals but rather push through it due to the stigma placed on mental health by society. By contributing a place like this to a college campus, student would be able to discreetly take mental breaks in a space that nourishes the needs of their minds and bodies. The concept of the center is based off of the idea of a blank space. Each pod is equipped with controls that allow the students to manipulate their environment as means of giving them a sense of control when feeling out of control while relaxing in the best way they see fit.

CENTER

WELLNESS CENTER FLOORPLAN

The wellness center is equiped with three rregular sized pods as well as an ADA pod for student use. Along with the pods, the hallway provides seating for students who may want to relax with friends. As a means of keeping distractions and stressors out, the space provides lockers for students to safely store their belongings.

Surround sound speakers allow the users to select their own personalized sound. If silence is preferred, the room is finished with sound-proof wood paneling to block outside sounds

A driving factor of the concept for the Blank was to promote natural serenity. To accomplish this, greenery was added as a ceiling fixture to ground the space within a natural element. This contributes to the natural harmony of the space and offers a physical example of the intention to support growth and relaxation.Functionally, it also works to dampen sound dispersion and to soften the wood paneling

Screens allow the users to select their preferred imagery in the space. Users can select from a variety of preselected backgrounds. Soft, plush furniture provides users with a comfortable place to rest as they decompress in their pod.

Diffusers in each pod allow the user to have complete control over the scent that is dipersed in their room, adding to the element of adaptability within the space

The Blank provides an adaptable environment suited to meet the various needs of users seeking a physical, mental, and spiritual break amidst an ever-moving academic atmosphere. The space evokes a serenesense of freedom, promoting its mission of providing a “blank” canvas in which users can control theirown escape. The juxtaposition of cool tones with warm, natural finishes creates a balanced space. The culmination of these elements applied within the pods allows the user to escape the demands of the outsideworld and enter a gentle space, customizable to their individual needs.

TREATMENT CENTER

The objective of the breast cancer treatment Center was to create a center that adheres to the physical, mental, and medical needs of breast cancer patients. The space required multiple stations for medical professionals, examination rooms, therapy rooms changing rooms and welcoming spaces that enhance the patients experience whilst undergoing treatment. The concept of the space is centered around helping women feel empowered, relaxed, and confident Through the careful selection of materials and finishes, the treatment center aims to give patients a space to be emotionally and medically vulnerable while receiving treatment.

BREAST CANCER

BREAST CANCER CENTER N.T.S.

The floorplan of the center is organized in a way that is continuous and keeps the patients moving forward literally and metaphorically.

The idea of moving forward invites the patient to maintain a positive mindset. This further enhances their mental health and quality of life while undergoing treatment.

To the world, A womens’ breasts are nothing more than another anatomical feature on her body. However, for women, breasts are a physical reminder of their femininity, beauty, grace and power as women. Losing one's breasts to cancer is an unfathomable circumstance that many women unfortunately cannot avoid. It can lead to insecurity, self-consciousness, feelings of inferiority, and a loss of identity. Through the Resilience Care Center, we will strive to create a space that reminds women of their natural beauty and empower them despite their circumstances. This space will seek to ease some of the psychological effects of breast cancer by incorporating plants, images of nature, and wood finishes. These naturalistic elements aim to relax the patients during this difficult time. In order to inspire these women, the space will incorporate pink in the space, not only as the symbol for breast cancer, but also a nod to beauty and femininity. The curvature seen throughout the space, in the walls and furniture selections, is meant to gently guide the client through the space. The goal is to make the client feel comfortable in the space, and in turn, will nurture their minds, hearts and bodies. By the end of each patient's time at the Resilience Care Center they will leave the space feeling not only cared for and relaxed, but empowered to live their lives comfortably in their own skin knowing that they are beautiful.
