OBJECTIVE

The objective of the booker was to take The Odd Fellows Building in Atlanta, Georgia, a six story historical building, and conduct research on the building and the area surrounding it in order to determine the best use of the building in an adaptive reuse project. The goal of the adaptive resue project was to restore the building while creating additions to it that would positively influence and contribute to the surrounding community. Due to the rich history of The Odd Fellows Building, a key component of the project was keeping the building tied to its history and building on it rather than building over it.The project required that the building be transformed into either a luxury hotel or apartments. As a result of the increasing need of student housing in Atlanta, the building was converted into a student housing apartment complex dedicated the the intellectual enrichment of students in the surrounding area.

During its prime, the neighborhood was the center of African American economic, institutional, and cultural life and was among the wealthiest neighborhoods in the city. The building itself housed multiple business, retail spaces, and an event center that was a big part of Atlanta’s nightlife at the time. Over time however, communty lost its life due to a surge in living and work opportunities outside of Atlanta. Inspired by the legacy of Booker T. OBJECTIVE

THE ECHO APARTMENTS

The objective of The Echo Apartments was to create a multifunctional apartment layout for young professionals moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma with a very limited amount of space. As a means of introducing these young professionals into the city it was requested that the apartmens deisgn be inspired by the city of Tulsa. In alignment with this request, the design of the space was inspired by the Center of the Universe attraction which is based on the phenomenon of echoes. The space provides the user space to sleep, live, work, and exercise all within a two hundred fifty square feet.

The Center of the Universe is an acoustic anomaly located in downtown Oklahoma. It is an eight foot wide circle where any sound that is created, echoes back but remains within the circle. Echos occur when a sound makes contact with a hard surface and is reflected back to the source of the sound. An echo can also be defined as a close parallel or repetition of an idea, feeling, style, or event. The design of the micro apartments at the village are inspired by the circular structure of an echo and the way in which it can take any given sound and fill an entire space. By emphasizing symmetry and curved geometric shapes in the physical design of the apartment, and selected furniture, materials, and finishes as well as incorporating Oklahoma’s ties to science and sustainability, the micro apartment will provide an environment that encourages structure, balance, and harmony for its users while integrating hints of the state’s history that make it so unique. These apartments, inspired by the Center of the Universe, strive to create a space where the sounds of functionality, comfort, wellness and productivity echo throughout the apartment to create an efficient and regenerative living space. One micro-apartment as the center of productivity, relaxation, and entertainment. Welcome to The Echo apartments

OBJECTIVE

The Objective of the Logans Circle Row House was to redesign an hisorical victorian rowhouse that had previously endured a fire for the Walker family. The residence required a design that tended to various needs of a small family while using the space efficiently and incorporating the families design requirements as well as tieing the design to history of the 1800s. In conjunction with the family’s dynamic and multiple needs, multiple spaces including home offices, a game room, a rooftop terrace, and a mudroom were all incorporated into this unique design. In order to tie the design of the house to the 1800s, the concept of the homes design relies on the intertwining of arcitectural features prominent in both modern and victorian interiors in an attempt to stay connected to the buildings original architectural history while setting up the family to create a future.

FLOOR PLANS

The various area within this residence were divided in order to create horizontal and vertical harmony within the home and to maximize productivity and accessibility to each space as needed.

CONCEPT

The 1890s’ was a time of growth, development, social change and political change in the United states. Much of this change was focused in the heart of the nation, Washington DC. One specific aspect of the country that was undergoing immense change was its literary culture. At the time American authors were engaged in a movement called literary nationalism. This was a movement that consisted of American authors working towards the development of a distinct American literature. As a result of this movement they would create a genre that would go on to not only record Americas history but also create it, American Literature. The development of American Literature has had an immense impact on the country. Along with american literature the transition in the country from the victorian era to a more modern styles also played a significant role in defining the culture at the time. The Walker Family Row House , in order to create a home that ties to the past but also looks to the future, is inspired by the movement of literary nationalism that was so prominent in the 1890s by using each space to tell the story of the Walker Family while holding true to the original architecture of the home and incorporating modern and traditional aspects to the design.Through careful selection of materials finishes and furinshings, the Walker family will soon find themselves in a brand new home where they are able to start new story.

OBJECTIVE

The objective of the Keeneland Development labs was to create a multifuntional office space in an octagonal building that promotes productivity, community, art, and wellness while accomodating dozens of employees within multiple spaces. A factor of the design was to incorporate the art of Ansel Adams an American photographer. Through the concept derived from the work of the famous photographer, the final product is a space that reflects the diversity of nature translated into the everchanging atmosphere of an office which is reflected in the selection of furniture, materials and finishes.

method of dampening outside noise as well as to mimic the geometry of leaves and re-emphasize the concept of nature within the space

CONCEPT

The concept of the space intricately intertwines Ansel Adams’ artistic mastery with the evolving nature of technology. Adams’ deliberate choice of black and white photography, echoed in this design, aims to direct the viewer’s focus solely on nature’s exaggerated beauty without the distraction of colors. Much like the filtered lens of Adams’ photographs, this design leverages technology to control and shape the environment, creating a distinct atmosphere in each workspace. By employing natural lighting and elements in different rooms, the design mirrors the changing seasons, embracing the duality of nature and technology. The intentional use of theseelements not only pays homage to Adams’ visual language but also invites occupants to interpret and engage with the evolving ambiance of the space. This harmoniousblend of technology and natural elements encourages a dynamic, ever-evolving workenvironment, promoting a sense of energy, evolution, and change within the office space.

OBJECTIVE

The objective of the University Welless Center was to create a space where students in need of a mental break could go. The idea of the space is centered around the fact that many students in need of mental help will not seek it from professionals but rather push through it due to the stigma placed on mental health by society. By contributing a place like this to a college campus, student would be able to discreetly take mental breaks in a space that nourishes the needs of their minds and bodies. The concept of the center is based off of the idea of a blank space. Each pod is equipped with controls that allow the students to manipulate their environment as means of giving them a sense of control when feeling out of control while relaxing in the best way they see fit.

WELLNESS CENTER FLOORPLAN

The wellness center is equiped with three rregular sized pods as well as an ADA pod for student use. Along with the pods, the hallway provides seating for students who may want to relax with friends. As a means of keeping distractions and stressors out, the space provides lockers for students to safely store their belongings.

A driving factor of the concept for the Blank was to promote natural serenity. To accomplish this, greenery was added as a ceiling fixture to ground the space within a natural element. This contributes to the natural harmony of the space and offers a physical example of the intention to support growth and relaxation.Functionally, it also works to dampen sound dispersion and to soften the wood paneling

Surround sound speakers allow the users to select their own personalized sound. If silence is preferred, the room is finished with sound-proof wood paneling to block outside sounds

Screens allow the users to select their preferred imagery in the space. Users can select from a variety of preselected backgrounds.

Soft, plush furniture provides users with a comfortable place to rest as they decompress in their pod.

Diffusers in each pod allow the user to have complete control over the scent that is dipersed in their room, adding to the element of adaptability within the space

CONCEPT

The Blank provides an adaptable environment suited to meet the various needs of users seeking a physical, mental, and spiritual break amidst an ever-moving academic atmosphere. The space evokes a serenesense of freedom, promoting its mission of providing a “blank” canvas in which users can control theirown escape. The juxtaposition of cool tones with warm, natural finishes creates a balanced space. The culmination of these elements applied within the pods allows the user to escape the demands of the outsideworld and enter a gentle space, customizable to their individual needs.
