Friends of late Timmins Minor Hockey Association coach, referee and supporter Jerry Reid will gather at Spruce Needles Golf Club on Saturday, June 25, to enjoy a great meal, a day of golf and share memories of their friend's life and the impact he had on the community.

Reid passed away on Oct. 9, 2000, and the tournament has run every year since to keep his memory alive.

The only money donated to Reid's wife, Barb, will be the money raised at the "chip in contest" at the ninth hole.

"This year is the 10th anniversary of the tournament," said organizer Keith Grenke. "It started with 44 golfers the first year, but we've averaged well over 100 for the last eight years. A lot of the Timmins referees play and other family and friends of Jerry, as well. My family always makes sure to come, too.

Grenke is still looking for someone to watch the car at the hole-in-one contest while he golfs. "People choose their own golfing partners at the tournament," he said. "We will be providing a bus to the golf course for people and we will be presenting a referee from the Timmins Referee Association with a Most Deserving Official trophy with their name and Jerry's engraved on it. "The person doesn't know until the presentation at the tournament. "Barb and her sons will also pose for a picture with the winner." Everyone is encouraged to be on the lookout for more information from the Timmins Garage cruiser. This is the first year the Garage cruiser will be part of the fun.
