Happy 21st Birthday Lark in the Park!

It’s amazing to think that from a small gazebo put up on a rainy weekend by a team from New Generation Church with a handful of people attending, that we have now grown to what you see today.

Back in 1996 we had just a small festival, which has grown over the years, and we now see at least 1,500 guests every weekday. Now it is no longer just New Generation Church running the event, but lots of Churches from our community making it a special event given as a gift by the unity of churches and volunteers.

The event also now happens in other towns and countries, from Thanet & Woking to Sweden and Greece!

Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the many years and have brought families and friends to Lark in the Park, and to those who have grown up with us! Or maybe you are a new guest coming to see all that goes on.

We hope everyone has a great time this year, and that you all have a brilliant summer,

Media Teams The Lark in the Park Media Team are on site to collect images and film for our website and social media. They will either be in their fluorescent orange t-shirts or will have media badges. Please be aware of where they are and let them know if you do not want to be on camera.

Help us to help you Lark in the Park is an event for the whole community. Please respect others to make everyone’s experience the best it can be.

– We may ask people to leave the site if there are signs of unreasonable behaviour to other guests, volunteers or venues.

– In the interests of safety and security all bags or packaging maybe liable to searches.

– Please inform stewards/security if you notice anything suspicious.

– In the event of an emergency please follow the directions of our security and stewarding staff.

– We are an outdoor event, be safe around the site and ready for the weather, which may affect changes to the programme.

– Your property is your responsibility (for ‘lost property’ please ask a steward, it is only kept for 3 weeks).

– This is a ‘no parking’ event. Public transport is recommended. There is limited pay and display parking at Sidcup Place. Fines are issued if you park in the pub car park and are not a customer.

– No Smoking. It is against the law to smoke in our venues and we would prefer you not to smoke on site.

The Grand Finale Sunday Sunday 6th August 6pm Celebrating 21 years with our special guest Steve Legg plus all the highlights from the event!

Steve Legg is a Guinness World Record holder for his escapology feats, he will amaze you with his magic and get you laughing with his great comedy. A treat for all ages, don’t miss a great evening!

Venue Registration To make your visit to Lark in the Park as enjoyable and safe as possible children have to be registered for venues and your free evening tickets need to be booked in advance.

Registration Tent Opening Times for Kids Clubs and Youth Registration: Monday 24th July: 12.00pm – 2.20pm Other weekdays & Sat 29th July:

12.30pm – 2.20pm Sunday 23rd July: 3.00pm – 6.00pm On your first visit you will need to register a few important details. Once we have your details you will simply need to register your child’s name each morning and we will find all the relevant information needed to book you into the venue.

Register Online Reduce your queuing time at the registration area when you arrive – go to larkinthepark.com, select Sidcup, then Register Online and follow the instructions.

Safeguarding is a priority here. We are committed to following government and CCPAS guidelines on safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. We have been awarded the Safer Bexley Mark.

Sparkles

0-5 years (Pre-School)

Weekdays & Sat 29th July: 2pm - 3.45pm This summer, sing with the puppets and meet PJ, Lizzie and friends in a live stage show everyday.

We have a huge range of indoor and outdoor activities, including sand and water play, bouncy castles, craft, messy activities and more! There is also a safe area for you and your baby with space to meet other parents. Sign up for extra activities each day for just £1 including face painting, parachute games, and much more.

Note: Buggies are to be left outside the venue at your own risk. A buggy park is provided.

Let's Get Moving Tent

0-5 years

Specialist provision for children with additional needs The ‘Let’s Get Moving’ team are excited about helping you access all the fun provision in Sparkles this summer. We have our own space equipped with sensory and specialist toys, soft play, sand and water play for you to exclusively use. You can stay within the area or use it as a base, to enable you to make the most of what Sparkles has to offer. Siblings 5 and under are also welcome and we have a parking area for wheelchairs or specialist buggies.

Come and meet Lexi and Jasper and their dog Biscuit as they search for treasure on a mystery island. As Captain Soggy Bottom, the pirate, plans to get to the treasure first, the scene is set for some exciting adventures. FIZZ is for children aged 5-7 years or children in Reception to the end of Year 2 and we enjoy an action-packed programme with games, singing, quizzes, craft and Bible stories.

AllStars

7-11 years (KS 2)

Come into the wild for some lively games, daring challenges, songs, bible stories and all of our activity zones.

Get ready for some jungle training and earn points to win prizes for your team and avoid the jungle gunge! Or will you say, “I’m an AllStar, get me out of here!” It’s going to be exciting!

Bubblz

5-14 years (SEN)

Weekdays & Sat 29th July: 2pm - 3.45pm Bubblz is a venue with a high adult to child ratio, which works closely with Fizz, AllStars and Free60, to enable all children to access the activities going on at LITP in line with our inclusion policy.

Bubblz is a venue for 5-14 year olds with a diagnosis, statement or EHC plan or for those children who may find the large venues intimidating.

The Bubblz venue has a range of resources to support children with SEND, including visual supports, sensory activities, wheelchair access and disabled changing area to cater for children with physical, cognitive, sensory, SEMH or communication difficulties.

The Bandwagon

Our First Year, 1996

Our Journey Over 21 Years of Lark in the Park 1996 Lark in the Park began, following on from the success of Design for Life, led by New Generation Church. The first event was with one small ‘DIY’ tent over a weekend, with evening events and a kids club.

2000 Lark in the Park had grown to be a week long event with a large marquee, kids clubs, fun days, evening events and an After Hours venue.

2003 Our site grew and became 2 weeks of activities, starting to see hundreds of kids, community action teams, over 100 volunteers and a £25,000 budget.

2004 We were awarded a London Week of Peace award for work in provision for the community. We were hosts for the Sidcup Festival on our first day. A huge event for the community run by other event organisers and High Street traders.

2005 Our fundraising target was £27,000 which was huge at the time. This has grown over the years as the event has grown.

2006 Lark in the Park grew to seeing over 300 volunteers, plus 2,900 children between the ages of 0-11yrs. From being just one venue it grew to have youth events, action teams, fun days, craft zone, an open air stage and lots more.

2007 We added the Freedom zone, a venue for the over 60’s to enjoy an afternoon of tea, cakes, entertainment and great company. This has grown over the years and is now a regular monthly event for over 60’s throughout the year.

2008 We won the London Borough of Bexley Civic Outstanding Achievement Award and were runners up for the Bexley Council Environmental Award.

2011 We won the Natwest Community Force Award for services to our local community.

2013 Alongside Lark in the Park, the team opened Hope Community School in Sidcup Bexley Borough’s first Free School. Which in its recent Ofsted was awarded good with outstanding behaviour and safety.

2015 New Generation Schools Trust won the Civic Recognition award for Outstanding Achievement for Hope Community School, Sidcup.

2016 We had our busiest ever year at Lark in the Park with packed out clubs for all ages. The Sparkles preschool venue had its busiest ever day with 850 visitors on the first day, our most ever!

In April 2016 we took over the running of Blackfen Community Library and recruited many volunteers to help. We have now seen over 3,000 people join the library and come and enjoy our community activities, new cafe and children’s area.

2017 This year we celebrate 21 years since Lark in the Park started and are thankful to still be providing a free event for Sidcup. We now see around 500 volunteers, and a growing number of community organisations working with us. The whole focus and vision of Lark in the Park from day one has been to provide a gathering point for our community, as a free gift.

Our afternoon programme is a packed with crazy games, funny videos, challenges and characters, special guests and more, all themed around relevant life issues.

The venue has various activities to get involved with and time to just hang out. Includes: football cage, the bus, arts, craft and design, hair and beauty, table tennis, sports, PS4, Xbox, Wii and loads more!

Inspiration

Over 15’s

Weekdays & Sat 29 July: 2pm - 3.45pm th

Visitors to the Inspiration tent will find a peaceful, creative space to have some, ‘me time’ during the summer holiday afternoons. Have a chat, a cup of tea, and take part in our craft activities. There will be a small charge for most of these, to cover costs. Look out for our detailed craft programme during the event.

Freedom

Over 60’s

Weekdays only at 2pm - 3.45pm

In the Free60 cinema we are watching a big Hollywood film with popcorn, bean bags and drinks!

The Freedom Zone offers a relaxed atmosphere with tea, cakes and other refreshments, along with entertainment including keep fit, professional singers, community singing and other acts. We play games too, with prizes to be won every day.

And there is an opportunity to have a manicure and hand massage most afternoons. If you are on your own it’s a good place to meet up with others for a chat over afternoon tea.

5th August: Bingo Free60 Style!

Note: There is extra space for wheelchair users.

22nd July: Creative Night Big crazy creative activities from painting on canvas to beads and much more!

29th July: Movie Night

Lose all stereotypes that you think of when you hear the word bingo, in Free60 we play it our own special way! Lots of fun, prizes and that amazing feeling when you get to shout ‘BINGO!’

The bus and football cage are open every Saturday night too!

Afternoons

Chapel Every day 1.45pm to 4.30pm The Chapel is a creative gathering place for everyone, and we can’t wait to welcome you! It’s a venue where you can take some time out during the afternoon, grab a nice coffee from our cafe, get some information on local services, write down your prayers, receive prayer for healing, connect with a local church or even do your nails in our nail bar. Each day we will have Life Stories at 3pm where special guests will share a story about themselves to inspire and encourage you.

Come early to get a good seat and some free cake! People of all ages and all faiths are welcome.

Park LIfe Every day 1.45pm - 4.30pm During the afternoons, while the clubs and venues are running, the outdoor arena offers ‘Park Life’.

Whether you are enjoying the park, or waiting for children’s club to finish, enjoy a free cuppa and the delights of the outdoor stage. It’s all free, just turn up, grab a seat and enjoy! Weather permitting.

PINK Ladies' Day: Tuesday 25 th July A day full of treats for the lovely ladies of Sidcup!

Afternoon workshops including make up & nail masterclass & children’s health. Also special guest Lily-Jo will be running a workshop for young women aged between 11 & 18 yrs by in Free60.

Book at the registration tent on the day.

Park Pastors Our team of Park Pastors are the hosts of the daytime site, if you have a question or would like to sit and chat over a cup of tea, then just ask someone in a ‘Park Pastor’ t-shirt. They are here to help and listen. Park Pastors visit Sidcup Place throughout the year every Friday afternoon and evening, be sure to say hello and join in with their fun activities and grab a free tea.
