TRANSFER: Willie Hodge, 19, mathematics/philosophy learns about transfer information to Humbolt State University at the Saddleback College transfer day.
CSU transfer requirements LAUREN ECHOLS Interested in transferring to a CSU? On Wednesday, September 29 four CSU colleges were in SSC 166 talking about their schools and informing students of all kinds of transfer information. The spokespeople for the five schools were from Cal State Fullerton, Cal State San Marcos, CSU Monterey Bay, Cal State Ploy, and Humboldt State University. Cal State Fullerton has 105 Degree programs and the average class size is 30.2. CSUF accepts upper division transfers only, and is an impacted school, which means all majors will be impacted and require additional admissions
requirements (e.g., higher GPA. Upper Division students must have 60 transferable units, at least 30 units of general education with ‘C’s or better, a minimum 2.0 GPA and have completed oral, and written communication, critical thinking and math). Cal State San Marcos requires transfer students to have a completion of at least 60 semester and 90 quarter college units, completion of the four California state university basic skills courses, and cumulative grade point average in collegelevel course work. CSU San Marcos is not considering applications for admission from lower-division (freshmen or sophomore) transfer
applicants at this time. Total cost for full time enrollment is currently $21,562. Scholarship application opportunities are available, and campus tours are Monday through Friday, 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Admissions and recruitments information is on their website, www.csusm.edu/admissions. CSU Monterey Bay is a small and private school, with its own private beach and ocean views from classrooms. There are currently 4600 students who attend the university. The school offers financial aid in the form of grants, scholarships, work-studies, and loans. Approximately 70 percent of their students receive some form of financial aid. Another 10 percent

The company responsible for the overseeing of Saddleback’s is called ggkworks. The Education and Facilities Master Plan (EFMP) is used to prioritize, update, and fund numerous construction projects all around Saddleback. Every community college in California is required to submit a new master plan every five years, according to
the state’s chancellor office. Another purpose of the EFMP is to have everyone in the college examine the upcoming . They are a consulting firm based in Irvine that specializes with architectural and educational planning and the South Orange County Community College district (SOCCCD) retained their services to create a brand new master plan
for the college. Ggkworks will also be responsible for surveying the Saddleback campus in order to see what aspects of the campus are mandated to be present in the college. They will look into how much space will be available for construction should new buildings be required for construction. Gretchen Bender, Director of Planning, Research, and
of students work on campus through student assistant employment, a CSUMBfunded program. To do this students must have 60 transferable units and 30 units of general education. Cal State Poly Pomona is a hands-on university with 1,438 acres. The university is one of six polytechnic universities nationwide. The school has 56 majors and 32 minors; average class size is 37 students. It also offers over 250 clubs and organizations. To transfer, students need 60 units and 30 units in general education, a 2.0 GPA, and completion of courses in speech, critical thinking, college level math and English composition.
There is a $55 application fee, a tuition fee $4,806, and book supplies average $1,500. To contact the school, send an e-mail to www. c s u p o m o n a . e d u . Humboldt State University accepts lower division and upper division applicants. For lower division, requirements are fewer than 60 transferable semester and 90 quarter units, and a 2.0 GPA. With upper division, 60 or more transferable semester (90 quarter units) are needed. The application mailing process opens October 1 thru November 30. If you’re interested in transferring to any of these schools, be sure to submit your applications soon. lechols1@saddleback.edu

Colleges in and around the state give students the opportunity to intern for their specific major in order to acquire better knowledge of their work area. In those colleges, there is a specific director of each department to organize, plan, and direct these interns into the work ward. Internships in the school have been found to be important in this day and age because experience in the designated work force has been crucial, according to National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). In a recent study done in September 2010 by NACE, they found that “approximately 42 percent of graduates with internships who applied for a job received an offer compared with only 30 percent for students who had no internships experience.” Students are now seeking experience more than ever due to the economic hardships not only for experience but because the businesses are now wanting a more experienced employer rather than a person with a high leveled degree. “The jobs that will be available will only require some level of education, they probably won’t require that transfer,” Eric Hilden, Career Placement Officer, said. “So the majority of jobs that will be available are the ones that will require the employees to have done internships and some level of education, perhaps an AA degree.” So students might ask for options on finding internships within Saddleback College, which are necessary to their future careers. At Saddleback College the process is a bit more complex to receive an internship because the school is considered to be a “decentralized system,” which is a system where no specific director coordinates it unlike the other schools. However, Administrative Assistant Elle DuBois, from the Advanced Technology and Applied Science Center, comes close to the job of director. DuBois believes that the program should have promotion, staffing, development, and education along with passionate people to run this program.
