DRAKE, THE RAPPER FROM THE NORTH In August, Drake (Aubrey Drake Graham. Toronto, 1986) made the front pages around the world when he declared his love for Rihanna on stage during the VMAs. But tragedy was already in the air: he tried to kiss her, she pulled away, and the poor boy left empty handed. That same night, the Canadian rapper took home a prize for the video for Hotline Bling, while another of his songs, One Dance, became the summer hit in the States, holding onto the number-one spot in the charts for ten weeks. Both tracks feature in his fourth album, Views, which is already the highlight of his career to date, having reached
number one in the US, Canada and the UK. It’s also seen Drake receive 13 nominations for the American Music Awards, beating the record held by Michael Jackson since 1984. Apart from his musical achievements, which have earned him several Grammy and Juno awards, he’s also had an acting role in the TV series Degrassi: The Next Generation, created his own record label, producing other artists under the pseudonym Champagne Papi (is that what put Rihanna off?) and is an ambassador for the Toronto Raptors basketball team.
