“The Larchmont Shore Club can trace its origin to a meeting of seventy-five people held at the Larchmont Avenue Church on July 27, 1925 Of those assembled that day, fifty-three banded together for the purpose of purchasing the house and grounds of the recently deceased Rudolf Schaefer, and establishing a beach and social club along the bordering Long Island Sound. Ultimately, the group, led by Harold V Bozell, later the first President of the Club, A C Robinson and A.W. Combs, was able to purchase 6.5 acres of the total property. The Larchmont Shore Club - known as the Larchmont Beach Club until August 18, 1925 - was a reality.” from the book, The Larchmont Shore Club at 75!

July 19 will be the LSC Centennial Celebration -- one of the Club’s premier events in this centennial year It will be a great evening of dinner, entertainment and fireworks. The centennial committee has put tremendous planning and effort into this milestone -- we truly hope to see you there!
As noted in my communication on May 29, we extended the courtesy of the LSC pool and beach use for Bonnie Briar members until July 3 while theirs is under renovation. The Board has further extended this courtesy by 15 days (excluding July 4 weekend and the Silver Cup) to on or about July 18. This has not impacted our member experience, and the accommodation has been a successful one. Special thanks to Benny Vanhulle and our pool director Billy Murphy Any beach or pool issues should be brought to their attention. th
Regarding tennis - as a frequent tennis player myself, I’ve noticed balls, towels, and water cups occasionally remaining on the court after play. A gentle reminder to all of us, to make sure that courts are left free of all personal items (including balls) after play Keeping the courts pristine is a top priority
At all times, anything that is out of order should be brought to the attention of Rogerio Ribeiro or Benny Vanhulle. I’m a big fan of the new LSC tennis merchandise and am delighted to see that many of you have expanded your tennis wardrobe, like I have!
A brief update on membership -- since the beginning of our drive, we have seen good success with 14 additions (9 regular, 4 junior and 1 clergy) As a reminder, a Primary Sponsor receives a $1,000 Food & Beverage credit for a successful new Regular Member addition to the Club’s roster. New members can pay their initiation fee upon admission in two ways: 1) payment of $30,000 (net $20,000) consisting of a Food & Beverage credit to be utilized at $2,500 per year for 4 consecutive years; or 2) payment of $35,000 (net $25,000) consisting of a Food & Beverage credit to be utilized at $2,500 per year for 4 consecutive years. The membership drive runs through Labor Day 2025.
Finally, I would like to extend my thanks to Benny and his team for expediently navigating the Club through a period of unexpectedly rainy weather. As we move into the next few months, I can assure you (based on my conversation with her a few moments ago), that Mother Nature will be delivering the most beautiful weather the Club has ever seen for the balance of the year!
On behalf of the Board, Sanjiv

By Marilyn Wilkie A Legacy Born in the Pool
As the Larchmont Shore Club celebrates its Centennial, we pause to honor the people and traditions that have made this community so unique. Among the most enduring symbols of our Club's rich history is the Silver Cup Trophy and the remarkable man whose legacy is forever tied to it: Edward D. Riley. Ed’s father Gus joined LSC in 1930 and is one of the founding members of the Larchmont Shore Club. His son, Edward quickly emerged as a leader in the Club’s growing aquatics program The Silver Cup was awarded annually to the winner of the Pentathlon a grueling five-part contest made up of four swim strokes (butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke, and freestyle) plus a diving event.
Three-Time Champion
Ed dominated the Pentathlon, winning it three years in a row. His unmatched achievement earned him the Silver Cup Trophy permanently a rare honor that reflected not only athletic excellence, but also dedication, leadership, and sportsmanship At the same time, Ed served as Captain of the LSC swim team, leading the Club to victory in the Westchester County Swimming Championships for four consecutive years, from 1936 to 1939 His efforts helped put LSC on the map as a regional powerhouse in aquatic competition.
The Start of a Tradition:
The Aqua Banquet
Ed’s father also created the “Aqua Banquet,” a celebration to recognize the achievements of LSC’s young aquatic athletes. That event lives on today as the beloved “Sports Awards Dinner,” honoring junior athletes across all sports at the Club. This tradition of celebrating youth sportsmanship has endured for generations and is still annually part of the summer events.
Beyond the Shore Club
Ed Riley excelled both in and out of the water He graduated from Iona Grammar School in 1935 (now the Lower School of Iona Prep) and Canterbury Prep in 1939, where he was a standout in football, baseball, and swimming. He went on to Villanova University, where he captained the varsity swim team and graduated in 1943. His love for Villanova was second to his love of family and the Shore Club.
The Silver Cup Today
When you look closely at the etching on the Silver Cup, you will see detailed depictions of a variety of sports including Polo, Wrestling, Golf, Basketball and a WWII warplane flying over Long Island Sound. These intricate engravings tell the story of one of the greatest eras in history. This beautiful trophy was gifted to the Larchmont Shore Club by Regina and Edward Riley in 1970, solidifying its place in Club history. Today, the Silver Cup remains a coveted prize throughout Westchester County swimming and diving competitions an enduring symbol of athletic excellence and community pride.
A Champion Remembered
The Silver Cup Trophy stands as more than just a prize it’s a reflection of the spirit of Larchmont Shore Club and the lasting influence of one member who embodied its values. Ed was a former President and member of the Board of Directors for many, many years at LSC and we continue to be inspired by his love of sport, community, and tradition. He was also inducted into the Westchester County Sports Hall of Fame in 1996 Seeing the Silver Cup today reminds us that one person ’ s passion can truly shape a legacy. His daughter, Ann-Marie Riley, said, “It’s been an honor and a privilege to be part of the Silver Cup for many years, and I hope this great tradition continues He was a great Dad and loved the Shore Club.”
The 74 annual Edward D. Riley Silver Cup th takes place at Larchmont Shore Club on Friday, July 11, 2025.
