PROJECT BRIEF My design proposal is designing a space for disadvantaged women to engage in art therapy. As the research proved that these women has mental health issues and large number attempted suicide.

The space aims to provide rehabilitation for disadvantaged women which are at a risk of abuse, poverty, poor mental health, addiction and homelessness through teaching art practice.

Also, aims to support women affected by the criminal justice system and helps them transition easier into the modern world with valuable skills, education and aspiration.

Moreover, it aims to empower women between 18-40 years through art therapy to boost their self-confidence and self-worth by allowing them to express their feelings through art.

The space offers public spaces, workshops, for sculpting, painting, drawing and group sessions. An exhibition for displaying the art pieces and sculptures created by women which will be open to public. This makes them regain their self-worth for being able to create and gain new skills.

Public and private spaces. Open plan workshops, studios, group sessions. These public spaces aims to provide interaction, engagement and gives a sense of belonging while the private spaces will be for private therapist sessions.

Through the process of making art, women are able to explore their inner world, express thought and feelings, access creativity and self-esteem, and better cope with stress. It provides another means of exploration, communication and healing.

Agenda is a society supporting women and girls that are at the risk of abuse, poverty, poor mental health, addiction and homelessness. Women is Prison is a society that support women to avoid and exit the criminal justice systems and deliver support services and justice for women by their campaigning system.

The two societies aims to support women affected from social disadvantages and criminal justice systems by providing them protection and ensure that they live free from inequality, poverty and violence

Sections BB/CC are showing the building’s proximity to the sea, which is very important for the healing process, the interior and VIP studios are both having sea views, it gives a sense of freedom.

White Paint

Concrete is the flooring material. The Georgian Bricks of the chimneys will be sand-blasted to remove the white paint and be left natural. Box walls in coloured timber are attached to the chimneys for the ‘old and new’ aesthetic concept. Another wooden material is used for the staircase, handrails, and furniture pieces in the studios to match the overall scheme. The marble will be used on the lift wall to create a contrast with the white walls, and the colourful wooden pieces. All the other walls will be painted in white.

PLAN & SHORT SECTION A

My concept is to create a private and public co-living which offers a more open, communal living with facilities that ensures client’s wellbeing. The building structure, Post Slab Structural System, allows walls to be built freely as desired.

Adaptable walls are used in the private units so residents can fold it out and share their facilities with any other residents. For privacy, the adaptable walls can be shut to create the closed space again.

Bastion 6 (WW1 Remembrance Centre) is a historic ancient scheduled monument located at the end of Airport Service Road in Hilsea Lines. Bastion 6 provided

The client’s brief called for the renovation of Bastion 6 to house the WW1 Remembrance Museum collection. The project aim is to design an exhibition displaying WW1 chosen artefacts with a linked narrative. My chosen narrative is WW1 women in factories

WW1 WOMEN IN FACTORIES ARTEFACTS

New jobs were created as part of the war efforts, factories employed women to produce artillery, tanks, gas masks and munitions. Munitions factories, which primarly employed women workers, produced 80% of the weapons and shells used by the British Army. The work was not only strenuous but it was highly dangerous.

PLAY PAVILION FOR ADULTS

THE STORY DESCRIPTION The Golden Threads is a climbing pavilion based of the short story “Zell and the Golden Threads”.

This story depicts a father climbing up golden threads in his apartment block to discover his lost heritage.

The pavilion incorporates climbing walls on three sides with “experience tunnels” that evoke different emotions that are shown within the story. The structure can also be entered and exited through the use of slides, and once inside the structure the golden threads emerge.

Location: Southsea, Portsmouth Materials: Timber Function: Temporary structure for adults to play and have fun Aim: The Story-Play event aims to highlight stories of or about the city of Portsmouth by inviting people to discover them through play.

A model to portray the murder aspect of the story using blood to show that Zelda was murdered and the threads leading to the freezer.

CONCEP DEVELOPMENT With the models made i liked the idea of vertical climbing as Zell climbs up through the apartment block in the story. With the idea of vertical climbing we had the idea to incorporate a climbing wall into the design.

I wanted to recreate both the climbing aspect and the tunnels into the design.

This design uses timber tunnels that are 1mx1m which inspired me to incorporate this into the design to give the users a goal to climb to.

TUNNEL EXPERIENCE

To incorporate another aspect of play and allow the user to enter the pavilion in a fun way we added a slide into the tunnel. We tested out different combinations of slides, ladders and climbing to have the most efficient experience.

The sensory tunnels will give the user and experience of an emotion in the story. The tunnels are also going to be made out of Siberian Larch but painted yellow and black to express the emotions of happy and sad.

This works with our theme because for the interior of the tunnels to make the user feel a bit uncomfortable. The resulting jet black colour will also help our tunnels have a sensory deprivation feature.

CIRCULATION

Putting a slide going to the outside of the structure so they can only enter through one side. This is so there is one path of circulation.

During the day you will get the shadow effects of the spiders web and at night the interior ropes will be lit creating a different light experience.

From the outside the climbing holds will be illuminated in gold which will attract people walking on the common at night as shown in the perspective drawing below.
