CODE OF CONDUCT

At Lapwing our students are at the heart of everything we do. Our role is to facilitate their learning and development so that they can fulfil their potential. When working with students, their families and/or carers, colleagues, and partners or engaging with members of the public, we must uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethical behaviour so as not to betray their trust in us. This brief Code of Conduct sets outs the standards expected of all employees. For the purpose of this policy the word "employees" refers to all staff whether permanent or temporary, paid or unpaid, including Trustees and volunteers. It is to be read in conjunction with all Lapwing policies and procedures covering a range of performance standards and behavioural expectations. In relation to Lapwing students, employees must: 1.

Protect the rights and promote the interests of all students whilst ensuring their behaviour does not harm themselves or other people.

2.

Strive to establish and maintain their trust and confidence.

3.

Promote their independence and treat them with respect, while protecting them as far as possible from danger or harm.

4.

Be accountable to management for the quality of their work with students.

5.

Not socialise with past and present students unless agreed by their Line Manager.

6.

In relation to contact with students using Lapwing ICT facilities, via social media or otherwise, adhere to the standards set out in the Use of ICT Policy and the Social Media Policy.

7.

Not drink alcohol or take illegal or recreational drugs while working with students, nor come into work under the influence of alcohol or illegal or recreational drugs.

8.

Not engage in inappropriate physical contact or an intimate or sexual relationship with a student. Inappropriate physical contact with students may include being too affectionate, hugging, kissing etc.

9.

Not bring pornographic material onto the premises or access pornographic sites.

10.

Not physically or verbally abuse or threaten students.

12.

Be aware that swearing, sexual innuendo and teasing can be abusive to students.

13.

Not emotionally abuse students e.g. bribing, blackmailing or manipulating.

14.

Not give to or receive money or gifts from students or their families unless authorised by a member of the management team.

15.

Report to the Safeguarding Officer anything that they see or hear about from any source that may constitute abuse of a student.

16.

Respect different cultural and religious beliefs.

In relation to other employees, employees must: Be polite and treat all other employees with respect and dignity. Not physically abuse or threaten any other employees. Not verbally abuse or threaten any other employee. Be aware that swearing, sexual innuendo and teasing can be abusive to other employees. Not emotionally abuse other employees. Respect different cultural and religious beliefs.
