San Ysidro Schools Negotiating Settlement Over Former Superintendent’s Harassment

he San Ysidro School District is in settlement negotiations with a female employee that made sexual harassment allegations against former Superintendent Julio Fonseca.

Settlement talks are ongoing with Alexis Rodriguez, an employee that was involved in a personal relationship with Fonseca when they both worked at the District.

Fonseca resigned abruptly in October 2017 after Rodriguez’s allegations came to light. Although Board members were aware of the allegations, they voted unanimously to grant Fonseca a nearly $400,000 severance package when he resigned.

Fonseca had pushed to hire Rodriguez in November 2015, and the Board ratified her employment at its December 10, 2015 meeting.

The position Rodriguez was hired for did not exist at the start of the 2015-2016 school year, but was created when Fonseca wanted to hire her. After conducting interviews,

BY MARIO A. CORTEZ What began as a nomination for district teacher of the year for Melissa Moreno by her campus peers lead her to a major recognition at this September’s A Salute to Teachers celebration, which honors the over 20,000 education workers in San Diego county.

At the ceremony, Moreno was recognized as one of the five county teachers of the year for her work at Chula Vista’s Rosebank Elementary.

“At first (the wait to hear the results) was nerve-wracking, but I said ‘meh, it’s OK if I don't win,’” she shared with La Prensa San Diego. “When they actually called my name I was in complete shock because I knew that this was a really great way to represent my school and my district.”

Even in her childhood days, Moreno always knew she wanted to be a teacher.

Born and raised in Chula Vista, Moreno says she always liked school and was a good student. She is the oldest of three and was raised by a single mother. Despite getting good grades, her mother always pushed her to excel.

n juez de San Diego firmó esta semana el acuerdo preliminar bajo el cual, el gobierno de Estados Unidos deberá reconsiderar cientos de solicitudes de asilo político de familias que fueron separadas en la frontera con México.

El plan, que recibiría la última aprobación durante una audiencia programada en noviembre, establece que tanto padres como hijos recibirán una nueva entrevista por parte del Servicio de Ciudadanía e Inmigración para determinar si existe “miedo creíble” de persecución o tortura en sus países de origen.

El juez Dana Sabraw, quien preside el caso en una corte local, determinó que el acuerdo alcanzado entre la administración federal y los abogados que representan a las familias afectadas es “suficientemente justo, razonable y adecuado” por lo que se puede proceder a dar aviso a los integrantes de la demanda colectiva.

Justice Kavanaugh was narrowly confirmed this past weekend for a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court by a vote of 50 to 48, mostly from Republican senators despite allegations of sexual assault and harassment which Kavanaugh has denied.

The protest was one of hundreds across the country held over the last few days in what has been one of the most contentious and controversial nominations in U.S. history.

The nomination has further divided the country, with some supporting the nomination and others outraged over Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

Barrio Logan Shares History, Future

Energizing citizens to act on continued threats in Barrio Logan and learning about the history of the resistance were among several reasons residents and community leaders gathered together recently for a community forum at the Logan Heights Library.

The discussion entitled Varrio Si, Yonkes No!: Community Leaders for a Healthy Neighborhood was hosted by the non-profit the Environmental Health Coalition (EHC).

“The history depicted in most murals lives around us every day,” Jorge Gonzalez of the EHC told the crowd at the beginning of the forum.

Gonzalez was referring to the murals painted on the concrete pillars holding up the Coronado Bay Bridge in Barrio Logan, which form the national historical landmark Chicano Park.

He explained the more time he spent looking at the murals, “The more I realize how murals speak to us and present challenges and solutions.”

One of the murals Gonzalez was speaking of shows people protesting and holding up placards with the message “Varrio Si, Yonkes No!” or Neighborhood Yes, Junkyards No, painted across the mural.

This mural depicts a community struggle where residents fought to get junkyards out of the neighborhood.

Legendary muralist and cofounder of Chicano Park Victor Ochoa was one of the artists that painted this mural, and on the panel at the forum he told Gonzalez the title was an open call to action for the community and students from San Diego City College to go to City Hall in support of the Barrio Logan Community Plan from the 1970s.

Trump Says Federal Reserve’s “Gone Crazy” Because He’s a Massive Debtor

T

he stock market took a dump this week with the Dow losing more than 1,300 points and the S&P 500 dropping for six straight days.

Most analysts attribute the losses to rising interest rates after the Federal Reserve again raised its federal funds rate, triggering most other interest rates to tick up. The Fed has raised interest rates eight times since 2015.

While rising interest rates may sound like a bad thing, it’s actually a sign of strong economy and low unemployment, two key figures that President Trump often touts as being a result of his presidency.

So, then, why would Trump criticize the Federal Reserve for raising rates if it proves the economy is doing well?

Let’s start with what the Federal Reserve is, and how it affects rates.

The Fed, as it’s known, is an independent government agency that controls our money supply in the US. It controls the Federal Funds target rate, which sets the cost that banks charge each other for short overnight loans.

Basically, as the federal funds rate goes up, all other interest rates do, too, including bank loans and credit card rates.

After the 2008 Great Recession, the Federal Funds rate was reduced to zero, and remained there until 2015 to help spur an economic recovery.

In December 2015, the rate ticked up to 0.25%, then again one year later to 0.50%.

Over the next two years the rate increased to 2.25% when it was last changed in late September.

That latest increase is what has caused the stock market to drop, as interest rates on government bonds also rose and became a safer investment than speculative stocks.

Now that 30-year treasury bond rates are paying around 3.35%, they are attracting risk-adverse investors away from the volatile stock market.

But, why does the Fed raise rates?

As the economy has recovered and grown at record-high levels over the past few years, the threat of inflation has becomes a real concern. If the economy gets too over-heated, prices rise and the things we buy become more expensive. That's inflation.

The current inflation rate is 2.3% over the past 12 months, which is higher than last year’s 2.1%. That growing inflation number worries the Fed, so it raised interest rates to put the brakes on the economy just a little bit by making money more expensive for businesses, including loans and lines of credit.

Keeping inflation down is important for consumers because it would immediately cause prices of goods we buy to become more expensive, but wages would not increase as quickly, so our real buying power would be diminished.

Border community leaders announced a $1 million fundraising campaign to construct a 40-foot sculpture of Mary in the likeness of the Statue of Liberty, to stand overlooking the U.S.-Mexico border in the San Diego region. The grassroots leaders invite people across the nation to help them build the monument known as Welcome the Stranger to send a largerthan-life message of hope to aspiring new Americans.

“All people deserve to be treated with dignity and compassion, regardless of their background or immigration status,” said sculpture artist Jim Bliesner.

“With this sculpture we can remember those who have struggled and provide hope

over the next ten years, that could cost Trump $18.5 million more in debt payments. That’s not nothing.

So, for the first time in modern history, the President of the United States is an active businessman, with hundreds of millions of dollars in outstanding debt. We have never, in the over 100-year history of the Fed, had a President that had such a vested interest (no pun intended) in the outcome of Fed policy.

Whether its raising the Federal Funds rate, called Fiscal Policy, or manipulating the money supply by buying or selling bonds, called Monetary Policy, the Fed can have a huge impact on Trump’s fortune.

So, this week, when President Donald Trump said he thought the Federal Reserve is "making a mistake” and that “the Fed has gone crazy”, was he talking about what’s best for consumers (AKA voters) or what’s best for himself ?

Higher inflation hits consumers immediately, especially those on fixed incomes and retirements. In the past year, we’ve already seen excessively-high gas prices, with current gas prices hovering around $4.00 per gallon.

Higher holiday prices would be hard on shoppers even as they’re hearing about a strong economy and record low unemployment.

At the end of the day, even if all other economic indicators are positive, it’s what’s in your wallet that matters most.

Just ask Donald Trump.

bite out of shoppers’ wallets.

The President shouldn’t be for higher store prices, right? Then why would he criticize the Fed’s interest rate hike?

Well, the downside of higher interest rates is that the cost of borrowing money goes up, sometimes by more than the fractional point increase of the federal funds rate.

If you are someone that borrows huge sums of money, then higher rates will cost you more money.

Enter Trump, the business man, not the President.

Even without reviewing his income tax filings, it is well documented by his financial disclosures that he and his businesses, which he solely owns, owe up to $400 million to banks and other lenders, making him a huge borrower. For the past ten years, Trump has enjoyed record low borrowing costs that have saved him tens of millions of dollars.

As interest rates increase, so does the cost of corporate debt.

Just for fun, let’s see how the new rates would impact a large borrower like Trump.

Taking into account the 2% rate change that has already occurred over the past two years, the annual interest on $400 million of debt would have increased by over $8.3 million. With another .25% increase expected next month, the overall annual debt payments could increase another $1 million.

That may not seem like a lot, but

for those who will follow.”

The American immigrant community in San Ysidro, where the statue will stand, led the monument’s design to ensure it reflects their modern immigrant experiences. Dozens shared stories of migration in a series of art therapy sessions facilitated by community engagement muralist and certified art therapist Berenice Badillo.

Bliesner used the community’s direction to render the final design, for Welcome the Stranger. In likeness of the Statue of Liberty, Mary will hold a torch and will be illuminated each night as a beacon of hope in the darkness. Her steel robe will contain sharp angles to symbolize the strength and struggle of immigrant experiences. Blocks of bright color in the folds of her robe

represent moments of rest and hope in the migrant journey.

Welcome the Stranger will stand on a hilltop at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where it will be visible for miles overlooking the border. The site will serve as a special gathering place for the community, with seating and droughttolerant landscaping surrounding the sculpture’s base. Each brick at the patio and stairs leading up to the monument will feature the name of an individual or organization that contributed to make “Welcome the Stranger” a reality.

The project has already received $1 million from the California Endowment and it depends on contributions from people across the country to raise $1 million more to build “Welcome the Stranger” by early 2019.

“We invite all Americans who believe in welcoming people with compassion to join us,” said Deacon of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the San Diego Organizing Project Jose Luis Medina.

“By donating at www.welcomethestranger.us and sharing the project with your friends and family, you can build a historic symbol of welcome for immigrants and refugees in our communities.”

Depending on their donation level, supporters can receive crowdfunding rewards, from a “No one stands alone” T-shirt to an inscribed brick at the site.

Judge Approves Settlement for Asylum Seekers

A San Diego judge preliminary approved a settlement agreement the would make the U.S. Government reevaluate hundreds of political asylum petitions by families separated after crossing the border into the U.S. The plan, which could receive final approval at a fairness hearing scheduled for November, would allow parents and their children a second chance to be interviewed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in order to determine if they have “credible fear” of persecution or torture if they were to return to their home country.

Federal Judge Dana Sabraw, who is overseeing the case in San Diego, found that the tentative settlement reached between the Trump Administration and the attorneys for the affected families is “sufficiently fair, reasonable, and appropriate” and it should be so notified to the plaintiffs in the classaction lawsuit.

The agreement will give these families, most of them Central Americans, who came to the U.S. seeking refuge a second chance to have their cases heard. During the months-long legal proceedings, the plaintiffs argued that having their children taken from them made it impossible to focus on their hearings.

While there are no official numbers, it is estimated that close to a thousand immi-

grants who already had deportation orders against them would get a second chance under the agreement.

Back in late June, Judge Sabraw had issued a court order requiring the Trump Administration to reunite 2,654 children with their parents; however, nearly 200 children still remain under the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement awaiting a decision as to whether they will be reunited with their parents – some of whom have already been deported back to their home countries – or remain in the U.S. with a guardian or relative.

Once the agreement is finalized, it would settle the 3 class-action lawsuits filed by different organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union, against the federal government’s “zerotolerance” policy on illegal immigration that led to this crisis.

At a hearing held this week, the federal judge applauded the commitment of all parties involved with resolving the case. “It would seem that we are very close to bringing this to an end,” she said.

Sabraw urged Department of Justice attorneys to begin with the process so that asylum interviews can be restarted as soon as the final agreement is signed.

only Rodriguez’s name was forwarded to the Board for consideration. At the time of her hiring, Fonseca did not inform the Board that he was already seeing Rodriguez.

Board members became aware of the intraoffice relationship as early as January 2016, but no action was taken to protect against potential harassment or a hostile work environment.

Fonseca oversaw all of the District's employees.

After her hiring, another employee, Enrique Gonzalez, raised concerns about the inappropriate relationship to District officials. Gonzalez and others had seen Fonseca and Rodriguez together before she was hired.

Gonzalez told District officials that Fonseca had confided in him that Rodriguez was going to be hired at the District even before the Board ratified her employment.

Within a few weeks, Gonzalez was terminated. The District later negotiated a settlement agreement with Gonzalez for one year’s salary and benefits. Gonzalez now serves as COO of La Prensa San Diego, but did not provide any information for this article.

While Fonseca was still Superintendent, he sent harassing messages to Rodriguez. She showed those messages to Board President Rosaleah Pallasigue before the Board voted to approve Fonseca’s severance pay.

Board President Pallasigue did not reply to requests to comment for this article.

According to then-Interim Superintendent Arturo Sanchez-Macias, on the day Fonseca resigned, School Board Member Antonio Martinez directed Macias and the District’s lawyer to prepare a separation agreement for Fonseca before the Board meeting.

Macias claims that, during a closed door meeting of the Board on the night of October 7, 2017, Fonseca was informed of the harassment claims and he then decided to resign.

Macias claims a separation agreement had already been prepared and they only negotiated the final payout amount during the meeting.

At the end of that meeting, Board President Pallasigue announced publicly that Fonseca had resigned.

“The Board, by a vote of 5 to 0, accepted the resignation

of the Superintendent effective immediately, in exchange for 18 months of compensation and release of all claims,” Pallasigue said during the meeting. “Dr. Fonseca’s departure is based on a personal situation,” Pallasigue added.

Rodriguez continued her employment at the District after Fonseca resigned. Since he left, Rodriguez has maintained that Fonseca harassed her after she ended their relationship.

She recently offered the District a settlement agreement seeking a onetime payment. The District has been engaged in talks, but no agreement has been reached.

Any such settlement would have to ratified by the Board at a public meeting.

After Fonseca’s resignation, Board Member Rodolfo Linares held a press conference and claimed that both Fonseca and then-Assistant Superintendent Arturo Sanchez-Macias had improperly cashed out their term life insurance benefits, and both had taken payments for unearned vacation days.

Days later, at the November, 4, 2017 Board meeting, Macias resigned without any severance package.

In March 2018, a local taxpayer watchdog group sued Fonseca and the District to reclaim the money paid to Fonseca, claiming his contract only required a severance package if Fonseca was terminated without cause, but not if he resigned.

The lawsuit by San Diegans for Open Government also claims that state law only allows severance payments of up to 12 months of pay, not 18 months as the District paid Fonseca. That lawsuit is still pending.

So far, the District has denied any wrongdoing and continues to fight the lawsuit.

Fonseca is represented by separate lawyers, but the costs are being paid by the District’s insurance coverage because the claims stem from acts that happened while he was still employed by the District.

Recently, Fonseca filed his own lawsuit for defamation against Board Member Rodolfo Linares, claiming Mr. Linares’ public statements about Fonseca’s actions in taking the insurance payout and unearned vacations days were false and damaging.

Depositions are ongoing in

that lawsuit. It is not clear who is paying the legal fees for that lawsuit.

A state audit completed in June of this year concluded that both Fonseca and Macias had improperly received cash out payments for their life insurance benefits contrary to the wording of their employement contracts, and had taken unearned vacation time.

“Based on the findings in this report, there is sufficient evidence to demonstrate that fraud, misappropriation of funds, and other illegal fiscal activities may have occurred,” the audit report states.

The audit confirmed that Fonseca received $107,000 for the insurance payout, and $55,826.72 in unearned vacation days. The audit also found that Sanchez-Macias received $100,000 in exchange for his life insurance, and an overpayment of $47,380.64 for unearned vacation days.

The state audit outlined that the administrators used the Board’s lack of financial experience and oversight for their own advantages.

“Executive staff used the board’s lack of fiscal knowledge… so they could use the district’s resources for their personal benefit,” the audit report concluded.

Last month, the District dismissed a lawsuit against former Superintendent Manuel Paul, after fighting for three years to recover a severance package it paid him in 2013.

The District’s board voted to accept Paul’s resignation as Superintendent in 2013 and approved a buyout that included 12 months’ salary, health benefits, and past overtime and vacation pay. In total, the District paid Paul over $211,000.

At the time of the buyout, Paul’s employment contract only required a payout of 12 months if the District elected to cancel his contract for no reason, meaning an early termination. The contract did not require a payout if Paul resigned or retired, as he did.

The District spent over $480,000 in its attempt to recover the $211,000 it paid Paul. No reason was given for last month's decision to abruptly drop the case. Paul was not required to repay the District any of the severance or legal fees.

Day of the Dead Celebration Returns

The internationally acclaimed Colombian musical group La Sonora Dinamita will perform at the 10th annual Day of the Dead celebration on Saturday, October 20 at La Vista Memorial Park, on 3191 Orange Street in National City.

“On Day of the Dead, our community comes together to show respect, honor, and humility for our beloved ones, past and present,” said Luisa McCarthy, CEO of La Vista Historical Foundation. “This year, we are honored to present three very special performances by exceptional, world class musicians to honor our families.”

Founded in 1960, La Sonora Dinamita is credited with helping to popularize the musical genre of cumbia throughout the world. Some of their greatest hits include songs like “Escandalo”, “Mi

cucu”, among many more.

This year’s celebration also welcomes Olga de La Vega, who is showcasing Weavers of Dreams, a collection of Mexican regional traditional dresses and cultural ensembles.

The celebration will once again award prizes to the best traditional catrina and altars.

A catrina is an elegantly dressed woman skeleton that is emblematic of Mexico’s Day of the Dead tradition.

The celebration will award $500 to the most traditional catrina and $1000, $500, and $250 prizes for the most elaborate altars built by visiting families to honor their deceased loved ones.

International visual artist Antonio Escalante will unveil this year’s community altar, named the Tree of Life, where guests are welcomed to decorate it with a picture of their dearly departed.

A dozen artists and artisans traveling from various

countries will showcase their work, which will be on sale to the public.

One of the artists include David Linares, nephew of the Linares family in the book Great Masters of Mexican Folk Art, who will be visiting from Mexico City to showcase his art of alebrijes.

Admission is free for children under age five and seniors, and admission for adults all day is $5.

There will be a free shuttle service to La Vista Memorial Park from Westfield Plaza Bonita from 2 through 11:00 p.m on the day of the event.

Cabrera also said, as a woman, it was also important for her to be at the protest.

“I am here also because these things have affected me directly and they will continue to affect us. All of us have mothers, we have sisters, we are part of a social circle where women are very important, and if our rights are trampled, we have to speak up. We can’t be at home quiet,” she said.

Kavanaugh’s nomination

During the final nomination hearing Kavanaugh’s demeanor and comments contradicted long held beliefs about judicial independence. Anzy McWha, a survivor of sexual assault and member of both the Party for Socialism and Liberation and Women Organized to Resist and Defend, which both organized the protest against Kavanaugh one day after he was confirmed, said, “We feel it’s important to show, first of all, the people in power, that we don’t take this lying down. We won’t accept our rights being taken away and that we will stand up and fight for ourselves.”

During the rally McWha told those at the protest, “Historically the Supreme Court has been used to maintain the legal system that protects the ruling class.

Before the Civil War the Supreme Court protected slavery. During the industrial revolution, it was used

to union bust. Under Jim Crow laws it defended segregation.”

With Kavanaugh on the high court a lot is at stake for Latinos, as a number of cases impacting the community could come before the court including cases affecting immigration, DACA, family detention, the upcoming census, health care, criminal justice, workers rights, the environment, and affirmative action.

Jose Cortez also attended the rally and addressed the impact of Kavanaugh’s confirmation, “Undoubtedly this confirmation will have a material impact on the day to day lives of millions of people. People should be concerned and they should see it not as this new thing that’s happening in a vacuum, but as the continuation of decades, of generations of policies designed not only to divide us, but also to exploit us.

People should definitely be alarmed.”

Kavanaugh’s nomination is a win for President Trump and congressional Republicans who are now using the Supreme Court fight to energize voters before the November midterm elections.

“Until we join our voices and there is discontent, nothing is going to happen,” Cabrera said.

Casa Cornelia Reconoce a Voluntarios Destacados

D

Los casos a los que Casa Cornelia dirige sus esfuerzos son los que enfrentan personas sin acceso monetario a abogados quienes califican para visas humanitarias y casos de asilo y protección a menores de edad. De igual forma, se busca atender a víctimas indocumentadas de abuso doméstico y quienes califiquen para la Visa U o la Visa T. “Son casos muy fuertes y requieren de delicadeza y mucha compasión cuando estamos representando a estas personas”, Chávez subrayó.

Entre las personas que destacan en esta labor, y serán reconocidas de manera especial durante una entrega de premios, están dos individuos quienes han dado de su tiempo y recursos de manera desmedida a las causas por las que aboga Casa Cornelia.

El abogado Charles Dick, actual consejero a la Barra de Abogados del Condado de San Diego y practicante legal con más de cinco décadas de experiencia, recibirá el premio como abogado distinguido del año por sus contribuciones pro bono a Casa Cornelia.

Por su parte, Dilkhwaz Ahmed recibira un reconocimiento por su labor humanitaria con mujeres en la región y en su natal Irak.

“Ella ha puesto su vida en

(peligro) para ayudar a otras personas”, afirmó Chávez. “Ella misma tenía asilo político en este país y ahora es ciudadana estadounidense y ha regresado a Irak para dar servicio y apoyo a quienes han sufrido de violaciones a sus derechos y persecución”.

La ceremonia también premiará también a más de una docena de personas que han prestado su tiempo y talento a Casa Cornelia.

Aunque los reconocimientos dentro de este festejo por el aniversario de plata de esta organización son importantes, el evento sirve para recaudar fondos para seguir llevando a cabo la misión de que este grupo ha tomado.

Cada año, Casa Cornelia atiende una mayor cantidad de casos, lo cual requiere de mayores recursos. En 2011, se atendieron a mil 53 individuos, mientras que en 2017 se extendió ayuda a 2 mil 441 personas, incluyendo a personas buscando asilo, beneficiarios de DACA, víctimas de crímenes y más.

“Absolutamente hoy, más que nunca, la misión de Casa Cornelia es críticamente importante para poder atender a las personas que realmente tienen derecho bajo la ley de este país y tienen derecho para solicitar este tipo de derecho humanitario”, concluyó Chávez.

No es el propósito de está colaboración profundizar en las certezas o debilidades de ese argumento. Muchos especialistas se han pronunciado al respecto justificando la naturaleza de las economías regionales que por su territorialidad son afines y complementarias bajo la óptica de las ventajas comparativas.

En efecto, en el territorio de Norteamérica se concentra una de las economías más poderosas en cuanto a la generación de riqueza. Si bien, no está equitativamente distribuida, por mucho en las sumas rebasa cualquier comparación planetaria.

Joseph Shumpeter, economista de gran sabiduría, creía haber encontrado el poderío de renovar las plantas productivas, bajo las amenazas que representan los ciclos de obsolescencias que el capitalismo arrastra como una de sus mayores contradicciones.

Estados Unidos, y sus empresas alrededor del mundo, reflejan el gran valor que la globalización trae aparejado.

Cosa de viajar a los más recónditos paisajes mundiales y tener a la disposición artículos y servicios de origen norteamericano. Con tres nombres quedaría satisfecha esa premisa -Coca Cola, Ford, Costco- pero en realidad, en los hechos, son miles los empresarios que han conquistado mercados con audacia y muchas jornadas de trabajo comprometido.

Durante un año se vivió la incertidumbre de si sería posible lograr mantener un esquema de libre comercio o si las fuerzan del proteccionismo lograrían imponer sus condiciones. Finalmente, aún sin saber el contenido puntual del nuevo orden de intercambios, la mayoría de los agentes económicos se manifiestan en sentido positivo, o en una razonable aceptación del modelo con el que se actualiza el sistema comercialización de bienes y servicio regionales.

Continúan Protestas Contra Nuevo Juez de la Suprema Corte POR MARIELENA CASTELLANOS

Fuera del Salón de la Justicia, en el centro de San Diego, un grupo cantó: "El pueblo unido jamás será vencido", como parte de una protesta por la confirmación del ahora juez de la Corte Suprema Brett Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh fue confirmado el fin de semana pasado para un nombramiento de por vida en la Corte Suprema con una votación de 50 a 48, en su mayoría de senadores Republicanos a pesar de las acusaciones de agresión sexual y acoso que Kavanaugh ha negado.

La protesta fue una de varias en todo el país durante los últimos días en una de las nominaciones más polémicas y controvertidas en la historia de los Estados Unidos.

La nominación ha dividido aún más al país, con algunos que apoyan la nominación y otros indignados por la confirmación de Kavanaugh.

Ofelia Cabrera y su esposo, ambos residentes de Vista, se encontraban entre los que protestaban por la confirmación de Kavanaugh. Cabrera dijo que asistió porque sintió que sus

derechos estaban siendo atropellados.

El presidente Trump, quien ha sido un firme defensor de Kavanaugh, dijo a los reporteros que la acusadora del ahora juez, Christine Blasey Ford, nombró a la persona equivocada durante la audiencia del Comité Judicial del Senado.

Trump también dijo recientemente: "Creo que es un momento muy aterrador para los hombres jóvenes en Estados Unidos cuando puedes ser culpable de algo de lo que no puedes ser culpable. Este es un momento muy difícil".

En esta ceremonia, a realizarse el 20 de octubre en las inmediaciones del teatro de la Universidad de San Diego, se le dedicará un reconocimiento especial a los numerosos voluntarios que apoyan a este organismo legal no lucrativo.

Entre los reconocidos se encuentran intérpretes, estudiantes, abogados, preparadores de documentos y muchos más.

Carmen Chávez, directora ejecutiva de Casa Cornelia, habló con La Prensa San Diego acerca de la organización que dirige.

“Casa Cornelia comenzó muy humildemente con dos monjitas, una de ellas era abogada, y ellas querían ayudar a las personas mas vulnerables y impartir la justicia con compasión”, dijo. “Desde entonces, nosotros nos hemos concentrado en ayudar a la comunidad inmigrante de bajos recursos y que no tienen dinero para conseguir un abogado privado”.

Lo que comenzó como una nominación para Melissa Moreno como maestra del año en su distrito por sus compañeros de trabajo en su escuela, le ha llevado a un otro gran reconocimiento en la celebración A Salute to Teachers, la cual hace honores a los más de 20 mil trabajadores de la educación en el condado de San Diego.

Dentro de la ceremonia realizada en septiembre, a Moreno se le reconoció como uno de los cinco maestros del año del condado por su labor en la Primaria Rosebank de Chula Vista.

“Al principio me moría de nervios pero luego dije ‘eh, esta bien si no gano’’’, compartió Moreno con La Prensa San Diego. “Cuando en realidad llamaron mi nombre estaba en shock porque sabía que era una gran oportunidad de representar a mi escuela y a mi distrito”.

Aun en su niñez, Moreno siempre supo que quería ser maestra.

Nacida y criada en Chula Vista, Moreno dijo que siempre le ha gustado ir a la escuela y que también fue una buena estudiante. Ella es la mayor de tres y fue criada por una madre soltera. A pesar de siempre tener buenas notas escolares, su madre siempre le insistia en sobresalir.

“Ella era muy dura conmigo”, recordó. “Yo era la mayor y siempre me decía ‘ve a la escuela, ve a la universidad’, así que siempre estuve muy determinada en salir bien”.

Después de graduarse de la Preparatoria Hilltop en 2003, Moreno ingresó a la Universidad Estatal de California en Fullerton para hacer su licenciatura en estudios liberales con la idea de realizar su sueño.

Mientras trabajaba como asistente educacional durante su licenciatura, Moreno encontró su llamado dentro del mundo de la educación.

“Decidí tomar una posición en educacion especial en un distrito en el Condado de Orange y me encantó; fue entonces cuando supe que quería ser maestra de educación especial”, dijo Moreno.

Lanzan Campaña para Combatir Violencia Doméstica POR ANA GÓMEZ SALCIDO

Por el comienzo del mes de concientización de la violencia doméstica, la procuradora de la Fiscalía del Condado de San Diego Summer Stephan anunció que su oficina, junto con las autoridades de la región y organizaciones comunitarias, lanzará una campaña de concientización llamada Ahora es el Tiempo. Esta

campaña es para combatir los crímenes de violencia doméstica, y cuenta con trípticos y anuncios por las calles de San Diego, con los que se dará las herramientas necesarias a los testigos y víctimas de este tipo de crimen, a que tomen acción y pidan ayuda, y así hacer una diferencia en el Condado de San Diego.

La Fiscalía del Condado de San Diego se asoció junto con

el Consejo de Violencia Doméstica de San Diego para esta campaña con la que se busca proporcionar a la comunidad con más información sobre como reconocer la violencia doméstica y que hacer al respecto. Más de 60 espectaculares estarán exhibidos a lo largo del Condado de San Diego con cinco mensajes diferentes que están dirigidos a las víctimas, testigos, y hasta los

agresores en este tipo de crímenes. También se distribuirá la información por medio de trípticos en inglés y español que serán entregados a organizaciones en la comunidad. La campaña fue financiada por un subsidio de la Oficina de Servicios de Emergencia de California.

“Las personas a lo mejor no saben a donde acudir para pedir ayuda, o como ayudar a

un amigo, ni como reconocer las señales, ni como tomar acción”, dijo Stephan.

“Queremos decirle a las víctimas que si hay ayuda disponible para que puedan salir de una relación abusiva y que pueden recibir protección. También queremos que los amigos, familia o hasta compañeros de trabajo que estén conscientes de que hay maneras en las que pueden ayudar a alguien que está

pasado por algún tipo de abuso, y hasta para que los agresores conozcan que hay una manera de detener el ciclo de violencia”.

El año pasado se reportaron más de 17 mil 300 incidentes de violencia doméstica en el Condado de San Diego, lo que fue un incremento del 4 por ciento a comparación del año previo.

El legendario grupo musical colombiano La Sonora Dinamita se presentará durante la 10.ª celebración anual del Día de los Muertos el sábado, 20 de octubre en La Vista Memorial Park, ubicado en 3191 Orange Street en National City.

“En el Día de los Muertos nuestra comunidad se reúne para demostrar respeto y darle honor a nuestros seres queridos pasados y presentes”, mencionó Luisa McCarthy, Directora Ejecutiva de La Fundación Histórica de La Vista. “Este año tenemos el gusto de presentar a tres grandes músicos de talla internacional para honrar a nuestras familias”.

La Sonora Dinamita fue fundada en 1960 y se le reconoce como el grupo que le dio popularidad al género musical de la cumbia alrededor del mundo. Algunos de sus éxitos incluyen canciones como “Escándalo”, “Mi cucú” y “Que nadie sepa mi sufrir”, entre otros.

La celebración de este año contará también con la presencia de Olga de La Vega, quien presentará Tejedoras de Sueños, una colección de vestidos mexicanos tradicionales de diversas regiones de México y grupos culturales.

The billboard and literature campaign gives tools to domestic violence victims, witnesses and offenders to take action, to get help and to make a difference in San Diego County.

Partnering closely with the San Diego Domestic Violence Council, the District Attorney’s impactful campaign provides the community with a better understanding of how to recognize domestic violence and what to do about it. More than 60 billboards will be displayed across San Diego County with five different messages directed at domestic violence victims, offenders and those who might see something happening in their community or with their loved ones. In addition, wallet cards and postcards – in English and in Spanish – are being provided to community organizations for distribution.

Martínez dijo que "los deshuesaderos no eran tan frecuentes en la comunidad , sino que los centros de reciclaje, los proyectos de desarrollo, los negocios de metalización, los camiones grandes, la gentrificación son", y se encontraban entre varios temas que se discutieron.

Otros problemas incluyen la invasión de la industria en áreas residenciales, los efectos destructivos de carreteras y puentes y viviendas deficientes.

La solución respaldada por los organizadores y los panelistas, la Actualización del Plan Comunitario Barrio Logan 2013, también se discutió en el foro.

Martínez también dijo que la adopción del plan comunitario 2013 "fue una gran victoria" porque apuntaba a separar las empresas contaminantes de los hogares.

Sin embargo, la adopción del plan fue una victoria de corta duración porque fue rescindida en 2014 por un referéndum de la ciudad y dejó el plan anterior de la década de 1970 en su lugar.

El alcalde Kevin Faulconer se postuló para alcalde en ese momento y apoyó el referéndum y estuvo de acuerdo con las afirmaciones de la industria marítima local de que aprobar el plan daría lugar a miles de empleos perdidos y un golpe para la economía de San Diego.

Jerry Rivero, el director de la campaña para vecindarios libres de tóxicos con el EHC, revisó cómo se realizó la actualización del plan comunitario en 2013, explicando que tomó cinco años,

50 reuniones comunitarias y millones de dólares invertidos.

“La comunidad lo apoyó, el grupo de partes interesadas de Barrio Logan lo apoyó, la comisión de planificación de San Diego lo apoyó.

Esencialmente esto fue apoyado por la comunidad ".

Los datos de la Oficina de Planificación y Desarrollo de la Salud del Estado de California muestran que los niños de Barrio Logan tienen casi tres veces más probabilidades de terminar en salas de emergencia de hospitales por problemas respiratorios que el niño promedio de San Diego.

Patricia Aguayo, la directora del Centro Comunitario de Sherman Heights y miembro del Comité Directivo de Chicano Park, dijo: "Necesitamos que la Ciudad de San Diego y otras grandes organizaciones entiendan que Barrio Logan es atacado constantemente no solo por el medio ambiente, sino de otras maneras ”.

El compromiso cívico fue otro de los temas del foro.

Héctor Villegas, quien vive en Barrio Logan, explicó por qué está involucrado con numerosas organizaciones.

"Puedo estar afuera gritando, peleando con gente por cosas que no me gustan, pero esa no es la manera de hacerlo".

Añadió: "Descubrí que asistiendo a esas reuniones y defendiendo a mi comunidad, ha habido muchas cosas positivas para mi familia que me ayudarán".

Buscar activar a los residentes de Barrio Logan y aprender acerca de la historia de la resistencia de este vecindario fueron unos de los motivos por los que residentes y líderes comunitarios se reunieron en un foro en la Biblioteca de Logan Heights La discusión titulada Varrio Si, Yonkes No!: Líderes de la comunidad para un vecindario saludable, fue organizada por la Coalición para la Salud Ambiental (EHC, por sus siglas en inglés).

"La historia representada en la mayoría de los murales vive a nuestro alrededor todos los días", dijo Jorge González, quien trabaja con EHC, al principio del foro.

González se refería a los murales pintados en los pilares de concreto que sostienen el puente de la Bahía de Coronado en Barrio Logan, que forman el aclamado sitio histórico nacional Chicano Park.

Explicó Hernández que cada vez que mira los murales, “me doy cuenta de cómo los murales nos hablan y presentan desafíos y soluciones.

Uno de los murales de los que hablaba González muestra a personas que protestaban con pancartas, sobre ellos el mensaje “¡Varrio Si, Yonkes No!” está pintado en el mural.

Representa una lucha comunitaria donde los residentes lucharon para sacar los deshuesaderos del vecindario.

Victor Ochoa, legendario muralista y cofundador de Chicano Park quien estuvo en el panel en el foro, fue uno de los artistas que pintaron el mural. Le dijo a González que el título era una llamada abierta a la acción para la comunidad y los estudiantes de San Diego City College de

The campaign is being funded by a grant from the California Office of Emergency Services.

“People may not know where to turn for support, how to help a friend, how to recognize the signs and how to take action,” Stephan said.

“We want victims to know that help is available to get them out of an abusive relationship and provide protection. We also want friends, families and co-workers to know there is a way they can support someone who is experiencing abuse, and offenders need to know it is possible to stop the cycle of violence.”

Last year, there were more than 17,300 incidents of domestic violence reported in San Diego County – a 4 percent increase from the year before. Last year, law enforcement referred 6,859 domestic violence cases to the District Attorney’s Office for review.

A bright spot in the figures shows that domestic violence homicide is down. Last year, seven people were killed by their intimate partner, down from 12 the year before and 16 in 2015 – a 50 percent drop in a two-year period.

As part of its celebration for providing free aid to immigrants facing abuse and human rights violations for 25 years, legal nonprofit Casa Cornelia will honor people who have given their support to this group.

In this ceremony, to be held on Oct. 20 at the University of San Diego’s Shiley Theatre, a recognition will be presented to the numerous volunteers who have been part of this organization. Among the many to be recognized there are students, interpreters, lawyers and many more.

Carmen Chavez, executive director of Casa Cornelia, spoke with La Prensa San Diego about the organization she leads.

“Casa Cornelia began very humbly with two nuns, one of which was a lawyer, and they wanted to help the most vulnerable people and impart justice with compassion,” she said. “Since then, we have concentrated on helping the immigrant community with lower resources who do not have the opportunity to get a private lawyer.”

The cases which Casa Cornelia directs its efforts

toward are those involving people who qualify for asylum and humanitarian visas, but cannot access a lawyer due to financial obstacles. In similar fashion, undocumented victims of domestic violence and people eligible for an U Visa or a T Visa are also people Casa Cornelia seeks to help.

“They are very strong cases which require tact and much compassion while we represent these people,” Chavez highlighted.

Among the outstanding individuals engaged in this work, and who will be especially recognized during the ceremony, are two people who have immeasurably given of their time to the causes championed by Casa Cornelia.

Attorney Charles Dick, general counsel to the San Diego County Bar Association and a legal practitioner with over five decades of experience, will receive the Outstanding Attorney Award for his pro bono contributions to Casa Cornelia.

Dilkhwaz Ahmed will be honored for her humanitarian work with women throughout the border region and in her native Iraq.

“She has put her life on the

line to help others,” Chavez said. “She had asylum and is now a U.S. Citizen and has returned to Iraq to provide service and support to those who have suffered violations to their human rights and persecution.”

The ceremony will also award over a dozen people who have also given their time and talents to Casa Cornelia.

Although the awards are an important feature of the nonprofit’s silver anniversary celebration, the event will serve as a fundraiser to keep thelp keep their efforts going and continuing to carry out their mission.

Each year, Chavez pointed out, Casa Cornelia handles a greater number of cases, which requires more resources. In 2011, only 1,053 cases were served, while in 2017 aid was provided to 2,411 people which included asylum seekers, DACA recipients and victims of crimes.

“Absolutely today, more than ever, Casa Cornelia’s mission is critically important to help reach people who have rights under the laws of this country and have the right to request this type of human right.”

said ‘you go to school, you go to college,’ so I was very determined to do well.”

After graduating from Hilltop High School in 2003, Moreno went on to Cal State Fullerton to major in liberal arts with the idea of fulfilling her lifelong career goal. While working as an instructional assistant during her undergraduate years, Moreno found her particular calling in the world of education.

“I decided to take a special education position at a school district in Orange County and I ended up loving it; that was when I knew I wanted to be a special education teacher,” Moreno said.

After completing her masters degree and credential program in special education at the University of San Diego, Moreno began working at Rosebank Elementary, where she has been teaching for 10 years now.

During this time, Moreno has worked with students that have mild to moderate learning disabilities in kindergarten and first grade.

“A lot of my kids have learning disabilities, autism, or language delays and and my job is to get them where they need to be,” she explained. “We do a lot of the same things that their general education peers do but in a different way.”

To fulfill this learning goal, Moreno has modified the grade curriculum so it is appropriate for her students while still allowing them to gain the same access to materials as general education students. Moreno also takes the time to get to know her pupils to know their needs and to know how to help them i the most productive way.

Moreno works within what is known as a “self-contained classroom,” in which a smaller-sized class works with a teacher and educational assistants, a setup which makes sure the individual needs of each student are met and grants independence to each individual learner.

Everyday, she begins class by greeting her students and making sure they are ready to

begin learning. This is followed by a class meeting where the students discuss their outlook for the day.

“We come in we do our ‘circle time’ and go over how we are feeling for the day,” she detailed. “We talk about how we are feeling and if there is anything that we are excited or nervous about to set us up for the day” Moreno then goes into an class rotation activity, in which he students break off into groups with content and lessons that match the group’s general educational needs.

Some of these activities and lessons involve reading, writing, and math, with social studies and science lessons done later in the day.

Through her care and approach to teaching, Moreno makes sure her students are empowered and have someone who believes in them so that they can succeed, something she takes pride in.

“Im very proud of what I do, and I love what I do,” Moreno closed.

Film Screening Sheds Light on Immigrant Realities

The lives and humanity of immigrants coming to the United States were the main focal point at last week’s screening of “Letters from our Elders,” a film produced by local creative group Onepaso Collective.

The feature gives the viewer an honest, intimate look at the lives of people who have left their nation of birth in search of better living conditions and the themes through which these stories converge.

Director Aaron Freeder said to La Prensa San Diego that he originally began the project by capturing scenes at protests after the 2016 presidential election, with the concept evolving over time to include the footage of protests against the 2017 Muslim travel ban and immigrationrelated subjects.

Moreno luego inicia una

“What you see is a profile of him helping out his community and something that extends beyond himself.”

Despite the film being a work in progress, the production team believes that screening their film is significant due to the way the conversation surrounding immigration has shaped up.

“We think is important to show it at this point in time even if we are continuing to work on it,” Cruz said.

Se Vacian las Gradas de la MLB Las franquicias de las grandes ligas perdieron en conjunto 93 millones de dólares por bajas en asistencia

Los playoffs que se están disputando en las Grandes Ligas son en realidad un oasis en medio de una crisis que ya no se puede ocultar.

Los estadios donde se desarrollan los partidos de postemporada muestran llenos espectaculares, pero esa no fue la realidad durante la campaña regular.

Un estudio publicado por la empresa Team Marketing Report muestra que 17 de los 30 equipos de Grandes Ligas registraron un descenso en el número de aficionados que pagaron un boleto para ver sus juegos.

El documento afirma que en conjunto, las franquicias del beisbol profesional de Estados Unidos perdieron 93 millones de dólares por la merma de fanáticos en comparación a la temporada anterior.

El equipo que más sufrió el alejamiento de sus aficionados fue el de los Azulejos de Toronto al recibir 878 mil aficionados menos que el año pasado.

Al club canadiense le siguió el de los Marlins de Miami con un descenso de 772 mil

fanáticos.

Los que no sufrieron efectos negativos esta campaña fueron los Padres de De San Diego, que a pesar de tener un récord perdedor, lograron atraer 30 mil fanáticos más que en 2017.

Petco Park recibió esta temporada la visita de 2 millones169 mil fieles aficionados, lo que representó 371personas más por partido que la temporada pasada.

El equipo que vio el incremento de aficionados más grande fue el de los Yankees de Nueva York.

Los Bombarderos del Bronx lograron atraer 328 mil fanáticos más que la temporada pasada mientras que sus vecinos, los Mets de Nueva York, sufrieron un descenso de 236 mil aficionados.

En total, los equipos de las Grandes Ligas vendieron 69 millones 671 mil boletos en 2018, cifra que contrasta con los 72 millones 679 mil que comercializaron el año anterior.

En promedio, cada uno de los 30 estadios recibió 1,237 aficionados menos que la temporada pasada.

Cómo le dices a la desesperada madre de un hijo moribundo, con el craneo destrozado que lo que le pasó a su hijo no es tan grave.

Solo un un ignorante desalmado de sangre fría y corazón de piedra sería capaz de decir esas cosas.

Ricardo Ferretti ha estado una década al frente del equipo de Tigres, y en ese lapso, el entrenador felino se ha convertido en una verdadera leyenda viviente en la ciudad de Monterrey.

A donde quiera que va, Ferretti recibe el saludo y los beneplácitos de los regiomontanos.

Su imagen es tan fuerte e importante en la comunidad, que al técnico de origen brasileño la gente le perdona que a veces se comporte como un verdadero patán.

Legendarios son sus arranques de locura, sus gritos de energúmeno y el trato autoritario con el que se dirige a su jugadores.

Conocidos son sus desplantes de soberbia con los que gusta pisotear a los periodistas que cubren sus conferencias de prensa.

A Ferretti se le ha perdonado todo, pero esta vez el entrenador de Tigres cayó muy bajo.

El pasado 23 de septiembre, antes del clásico entre Tigres y Monterrey, una turba de criminales destrozó a golpes el craneo del joven Rodolfo Manuel Palomo Gámez.

Además de las contusiones en la cabeza, Rodolfo fue apuñalado cuando yacía inerme en el pavimento.

Los aterradores y sangrientos hechos ocurrieron cuando un grupo de presuntos seguidores del Monterrey confrontó a aficionados de Tigres.

A dos semanas de distancia de los hechos que tienen a Rodolfo luchando por su vida en un hospital de Monterrey, Ferretti realizó la declaración más asquerosa que le he escuchado en muchos años.

“No hay que exagerar, lo que pasó con las barras de Tigres y Rayados no fue para tanto”, dijo Ferretti en su conferencia de prensa del 2 de octubre pasado.

Cuando escuché las estúpidas y cruentas palabras de Ferretti, el estomago se me revolvió y un sentimiento de inmenso coraje electrificó mi cuerpo.

Decir que se está exagerando en la cobertura de los hechos de violencia que ocurrieron antes del clásico entre Tigres y Rayados es lo mismo que decir que la vida de Rodolfo no vale nada.

Con su declaración, Ferretti le dijo a la madre de Rodolfo que deje de estar llorando día y noche, que no exagere el inmenso dolor de ver a su hijo debatirse entre la vida y la muerte.

Tras su estúpida declaración, Ferretti debió haber sido despedido como técnico de Tigres.

AUMENTO MILLONARIO El próximo año habrá cambios en el Abierto de

Australia de tenis, anunciaron que aumentará su fondo de premios en una cantidad de 60.5 millones de dólares australianos, o lo que es lo mismo, 42.7 millones de dólares estadounidenses.

Aunque la división del dinero en premios aún no está confirmada, se repartirá de igual manera entre los torneos masculinos y femeninos, según ha informado la organización del primer Grand Slam del año.

Martinez said, “Junkyards were not so prevalent in the community, but recycling centers, development projects, metal plating businesses, large trucks, gentrification are,” and were among several issues panelists talked about.

Other ongoing issues include encroachment of industry into residential areas, the destructive effects of highways and bridges and substandard housing.

The solution supported by the organizers and the panelists, the 2013 Barrio Logan Community Plan Update, was also discussed at the forum.

Martinez also said the adoption of the 2013 community plan “Was a huge victory” because it aimed to separate polluting businesses from homes.

However, the plan adoption was a short-lived victory because it was rescinded in 2014 by a city-wide referendum and left the earlier plan from the 1970s in place.

Mayor Kevin Faulconer was running for mayor at the time and he supported the referendum and agreed with claims from the local maritime industry that approving the plan would result in thousands of jobs lost and a hit to the San Diego economy.

Jerry Rivero, the campaign director for toxic free neighborhoods with the EHC, reviewed how the community plan update came together in 2013, explaining it took five years, 50 community meetings, and millions of dollars invested.

“The community supported it, the Barrio Logan stakeholder group supported it, the planning commission of San Diego supported it.

Essentially this was community supported.”

Data from California’s Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development shows children from Barrio Logan are almost three times more likely to end up in hospital emergency rooms for breathing problems than the average San Diego child.

Patricia Aguayo, the director of the Sherman Heights Community Center and member of the Chicano Park Steering Committee, said, “We need the City of San Diego and other big organizations to understand that Barrio Logan is constantly attacked not just environmentally, but in other ways.”

Civic engagement was another theme of the forum.

Hector Villegas, who lives in Barrio Logan, explained why he is involved with numerous organizations.

“I can be out there yelling, getting in fights with people over stuff that I don’t like, but that’s not the way to go about it.”

He added, “I found that going to those meetings and advocating for my community, there’s been a lot of positive things for my family that’s gonna help out.”

Victories in Barrio Logan were also discussed, including efforts from the EHC to reduce pollution, shut down master plating, defend the Barrio Logan community plan update and separate polluting industries from homes to schools.

Aguayo also said unity is a victory, “It’s the unity of people that makes things possible.”

With the upcoming elections a few weeks away, attendees were encouraged to vote on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 and become more involved.

“We need you on Chicano Park Day. We need you at meetings, every single one of you we need. We can be stronger and we can be better than we are already,” Tina Camarillo said.

Bleisner utilizó la contribución de la comunidad para realizar el último diseño en el monumento de Bienvenido al Extraño. La escultura será similar a la Estatua de la Libertad, con la Virgen María cargando una antorcha que estará iluminada todas las noche como un faro de luz en la obscuridad. El manto será de acero con ángulos agudos que simbolizarán la fuerza y lucha de las experiencias de la migración.

También contará con partes de gran color en el manto para representar los momentos de descanso y esperanza que también son parte de la experiencia de la migración.

El monumento estará en una cima en el terreno de la Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Mount Carmel, desde donde podrá ser visto a lo largo de la frontera. El sitio también servirá como un punto de reunión en la comunidad, con espacios para sentarse y cubrirse del sol alrededor del monumento. Cada uno de los ladrillos en el patio y escaleras que lleven al monumento contarán con el nombre de los individuos y organizaciones que contribuyan a la construcción de la obra.

El proyecto ya recaudó 1 millón de dólares por parte de California Endowment y depende de contribuciones de individuos y organizaciones a lo largo del país para lograr la recaudación de otro millón de dólares para la construcción del monumento para principios del 2019.

El descalabro que podrían propiciar las letras chiquitas de lo convenido, y que todavía es incierto, y una mala gestión de los cuerpos legislativos en los que habrá toda clase de tiradores son, por lo pronto, materia de los próximos 60 días donde prevalecerá la calma chicha que presagia una tormenta perfecta con efectos irreversibles en el ámbito financiero que advierten como escenario posible algunas voces pesimistas.

Por lo pronto, la forzada armonía permite también vislumbrar una luz al final del túnel, con la esperanza que ilumine una etapa de crecimiento y corrección de la ruta del desarrollo deseable para las relaciones trilaterales.

contact all the parents who were separated from their children, including those who were deported without them. As of this week, they still had not been able to find ten of these parents.

The judge has asked them to speed up the process so that all affected immigrants can be made aware of their options and let them know whether they will allow their children to fight their asylum cases in the U.S. or if they will request to have them returned to their home countries.

The parties will be back in court in November for the potential final approval, however, the next step will be for them to present an Activity Report next week.
