Anatomy of a Belt

Belts are not just for keeping your pants up, but they also play an important role in keeping your image in public up. Not many realise the kind of impression such a small accessory can have. The kind of belt you choose to wear on a given day can make your style quotient go from 1 to 100 or the other way down rather swiftly. So, choose wisely!

Uses of a belt: Understanding what a belt is should be the first step obviously to understand the anatomy of a belt and its uses. A belt is a cinching system that makes use of tension to hold up an individual’s pants while being around that person’s waist. In addition to holding your pants up, they are also for carrying things like a pouch for phone, a small music player, camera and are also mostly for aesthetic purposes.

Anatomy of a belt: Belts come made in various colours, materials and styles, but most belts would have the basic configuration of a strap and a buckle. Some belts also have keeper loop, which prevents the free end from moving about, flapping. Some belts also have an end tip, which is mostly made of metal or leather that protects the tip of the belt from easy wear and tear. It also makes it easier to buckle the belt. There are other belt types where the buckle and the strap come joined together and, in some types, where the strap and the buckle could be taken apart. In these types of belt, the buckles could be easily replaced for the same strap. The portion of the buckle that connects it to the strap is called the chape. Frame, bar, and the prong are the parts of a basic buckle type. Considering all these types and understanding what is right for you is essential while looking for branded belts on sale.

Formal or Casual belts? The right choice? Formal belts are mostly black or brown, have a strap width ranging between 1 to 1.5 inches, have a thin, soft, sleek leather strap and have a flat fold or silver-finished frame style buckle that are mostly small in size.
