Emotional commemoration Mason’s solemn 9/11 event touches hearts of hundreds of people Will Kangas

| wkangas@lsj.com

MASON – Mason Assistant Fire Chief Mark Howe said emotions were high on Sept. 11, as the city held a presentation of the piece of the twin towers that it acquired recently on the 10th anniversary of the tragic event. “It was already an emotional day based on the date, but having a piece of one of the towers there gave an extra feeling right in your gut,” Howe said. “Just knowing what that piece of metal represents was very intense for me.” Over 300 people came to the memorial, which was held near the

Howe is also Vice President at Dart Bank, which sponsors the “Mason Cares” day. Howe said what has amazed him even more than the turnout, is the amount of residents that have stopped by to see and touch the steel girder all week following the memorial. “I see from six to a dozen people a day come up to it and either take pictures or just touch it and leave,” Howe said. “The emotional impact is heavy.” Sue Chapman and her daughters, Kaylie, 10, and Emma, 7, came on Sept. 13 to see it. “I just wanted my girls to see it so they can know what happened 10 years ago,” she said. “They ask about it and heard about it in school. We were coming through and I felt like

it was a good idea to stop and see it.” Howe said plans are underway to place the piece into a more decorative memorial. He said there is a chance it may be mounted along with a statue or surrounded by a fountain. He said a committee will work on the ideas and will bring them to the city council for approval. “It was a memorable day,” he said about Sept. 11, 2001. “Everyone knows where they were that day and what they were doing before they ran to the nearest TV to see if what was happening was real.”

Rotary donation will get big stage for Rayner Park MASON – A beloved park “adopted” by the city has already had a makeover. Rayner Park will now get a stage to encourage even more use. Rayner Park could have been shelved – a victim of budget cuts through Ingham County, but city officials entered into a lease/ purchase agreement last year, and the city now operates the park in its day-today operations. Since then, the park has had several stewards in the form of community volunteers and service organizations willing to donate time and work to keep the park

attractive. A recent donation from the Mason Rotary Club will try to help boost the park’s attractions with a professional stage. Rotary Club officials recently pledged $10,001 towards construction of the stage, which is estimated to cost $20,000. The initial plans for a 1,152 square foot facility, complete with roof, require further definition and will have to ultimately be approved by a professional architect or engineer. Club officials asked The See STAGE, Page 10

problem. With the suspect identified, the investigation continues. • A Mason resident reported a personal protection order violation after finding a short note in her mailbox she believed was written by her estranged spouse. The complainant also reported finding a suspicious white substance she thought was her ex’s because she had heard he was using drugs. A plastic bag, weighing several pounds, containing white powder and labeled “baking soda (not for baking)” was then turned over to the officer. The bag was seized and secured for later testing. It was found to indeed be baking soda. September 8 - Officers responded to a report of a female down on the lawn near an intersection in a residential neighborhood. The caller told the Dispatch Center the victim claimed to have taken a quantity of pills. Two witnesses at the scene told the officers the victim had told them she had taken the pills but since, had gotten up and walked home. An officer located the residence and the victim, confirming the ingestion of the pills. Family members arrived as the officer requested a medical unit, and the victim was taken to an area medical facility for treatment. • A Mason resident reported finding four hunting knives in their sheaths. They were in front of the complainant’s residence, lying on the ground under a tree in the City right of way. As of this time, the items have not been reported stolen, and the reason for the knives appearing where they did is unknown. September 10 - Officers were flagged down by an employee of an area convenience store and told a patron had just driven away without paying for the gasoline he’d pumped

into his car. The officers, who never lost sight of the car in question, caught up with and stopped it, and advised the driver of what he had done. The driver reported he forgot, while making another purchase, to point out to the cashier he was to pay for gas also. The cashier didn’t catch it either until the driver was leaving. The driver returned to pay the balance owed, and the matter is closed. • An officer responded to a suspicious situation after a Mason resident reported an unknown male suspect had been banging on her door for some time. The complainant stated that when she looked outside, she only saw a paper bag sitting in the driveway. A careful examination of the bag by the officers found human feces. The deviant intent and identity of the suspect are unknown at this time. September 11 - An officer stopped a car on Cedar near Ash for an equipment violation. When the officer made contact with the driver, the overwhelming scent of aerosol was easily detectible. Further investigation found a baggie of marijuana and a marijuana pipe, along with three other baggies containing marijuana residue, inside the vehicle. The driver, who claimed he didn’t smoke marijuana anymore but allowed his friends to do so in his car, showed no indications of being under the influence and was allowed to drive off after being released with citations. • An officer stopped a car for driving without headlamps after dark time hours. The driver claimed the car was borrowed and having no knowledge of how to work the light controls. The driver was also wanted by Ingham County for a probation violation and by Lansing for

failing to appear in court. The problems were compounded by a suspended operator’s license, with a prior conviction. The driver was arrested on the outstanding warrants and lodged in the Ingham County Jail with a citation for the original violation. A copy of the driving while suspended operator’s license, second offense report will be sent to the Prosecutor’s Office for review of charges, so as not to postpone the driver’s appearance on the two warrants. There is also the possibility of another probation violation because of the suspended driving offense, which will be for the presiding jurist to determine. • Officers were dispatched to a local park on a drug complaint. In the park they initiated a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle and found the juvenile female and male occupants in possession of marijuana. The suspects were cited and turned over to their parents. A warrant will be sought against the male for contributing to the delinquency of a minor and for a probation violation. • An officer was dispatched to a barking dog complainant. The caller reported the dogs bark constantly and would like the matter dealt with. While checking the area, a resident made contact with the officer and reported hearing dogs occasionally, but claimed they weren’t his. The officer left to check further when a second call was made from an area resident who reported the person the officer had been talking with was the owner of the disruptive animals. The officer went back, but the suspect would not answer the door. The warning had already been given as a course of conversation during the first visit with Continued on Page 4

MASON POLICE REPORT Continued from Page 2

the suspect, and the officer noted he would monitor the area. September 12 - A late theft was reported by a resident on Peachtree. The victim stated that a yard ornament, an 18” gray statue of a child holding a basket in one hand and two birds in the other, was taken from the front yard. The victim reported the statue had great personal value, as it was a memorial to her late daughter. If anyone wants to return the statue or knows of its whereabouts, the victim would appreciate its return and will not prosecute. • Officers responded to a domestic argument called in by the estranged couple’s child. The complainant stated that both parents, who were separated, had been staying together the past few days and were arguing over property rights. Because the mother had “gotten physical” in the past, the child thought it best to call the police. The husband reported he

wanted his wife and her property out, but only under his supervision so he could monitor what left the house. he wife stated he threatened to throw her and all her property out into the front yard, which started the argument. As the Missus no longer resides at the address, she left until the matter could be taken up under better circumstances. • Officers received a complaint from a Mason resident of a suspected marijuana operation at a neighborhood residence. There was, and everything seemed to comply with the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act after the officers were provided with a look- see around. The matter is closed. • An officer investigated a domestic dispute and possible child abuse complaint that occurred at a Mason home. The complainant stated that she and the father of her child were former girlfriend and boyfriend and she had recently moved to Mason where she resided with the ex’s

sister. She added that the suspect frequently hangs out at the apartment and two days prior he had became angry at the child for not listening to him and had slapped the child across the back with an open hand, leaving a large red mark, which was evidenced by a cell phone picture taken by the complainant, allegedly of the victim’s back. The matter remains open. Crash Reports: Officers investigated 4 onstreet accidents. Alarms: Officers responded to 1 alarm. Found Property: Four knives—possibly stolen during the latest rash of larcenies from autos. If these belong to you or someone you know, please contact the MPD. ******* SPECIAL NOTICE: With schools now in session, many Mason children will be walking to and from. t was a very busy and successful summer at the Aurelius Library. This year we signed up more than 260 children and teens for our Summer Reading Program. As many as 150 people attended each of our Wednesday morning programs and Thursday afternoon movies. We are very excited to have welcomed so many participants, and so proud of all they accomplished with their reading skills this summer.

Business support I’d like to take this

opportunity to thank the following generous businesses, groups and individuals for their donations in support of this program: Friends of the Aurelius Library, Bestmaze Corn Maze, Curious Book Shop, Edru Skate-A-Rama, Carolyn Jones and the Bertha H. Edgar Memorial Fund and the Ingham County Fair. Their support was a huge contributing factor in our Summer Reading success. It turns out that some

people who were drawn to the library for our exciting events didn’t realize how much we have to offer year-round. My staff and I were happy to share information about our extensive services and collection. For example, the Aurelius Library offers a variety of magazines and newspapers, with subscriptions to the Lansing State Journal, People, Glamour, Antique Week, Consumer Reports, American Girl Magazine and many more. That saves you a lot of money on subscriptions of your own.

11,000 items

And while we house a collection of nearly 11,000 items in our building, having a Capital Area District Library card means you also have access to thousands more items across Ingham County and the state of Michigan. These include DVDs and CDs as well as books and magazines. We also provide free training and access to downloadable books for compatible devices —

and it’s all free! Also free at the library are events for all ages. Stop in soon to pick up a fall events guide, which includes storytimes for preschoolers, crafts for teens, book discussions, computer classes and special reminiscers presentations.

Ice cream social A great time to do that is during our Ice Cream Social on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 6-7:30 p.m. It is an event where local residents can meet

and greet neighbors, friends, and family, plus check out everything the library has to offer. The Aurelius Library, a Capital Area District Library, is located at 1939 Aurelius Road in Mason. For more information about the Aurelius Library hours, programs or services, call (517) 628-3743 or visit cadl.org. Find a complete schedule of library events at cadl.org/events.

Head of road board under fire Scott Davis sdavis@lsj.com

MASON — Some public

officials are calling for the resignation of Shirley Rodgers, board leader of the Ingham County Road Commission, in the aftermath of a consultant’s report that found discord at the agency. “If you resign, I think all of these people can work a whole lot better together,” Vince Dragonetti, a Republican county commissioner from Holt, told Rodgers during a commission meeting Tuesday. Rodgers has been at the center of criticism since a Lansing consultant recently found problems at the agency, including a perception by employees that Rodgers improperly micromanaged the staff. Rodgers has responded that she merely has been trying to ensure the commission follows fair hiring practices. Several county

commissioners and township supervisors, including more than a dozen commission employees, attended the meeting to chastise the road board and support two top administrators whose future employment is being reviewed by the board. Last week, the board directed Peter Cohl, the commission’s attorney, to review “employment options” for Tina Henry, finance director, and Jim Benjamin, operations director.

Closed session On Tuesday last week, the board went into closed session to review a “legal opinion” from Cohl, but took no action when it came out of closed session. Both Rodgers and Milton Scales, a board member, declined to say what they had discussed during the closed session. “Those decisions have not yet been made,” Scales said about Henry’s and Bentions, the city council approved a resolution at its last meeting on Sept. 6 to proceed with the construction of the stage.

Knights announces scholarship winners MASON — The Mason Council No. 9182 of the Knights of Columbus has announced the recipients of Knights of Columbus Scholarships in memory of Robbie Stevens. The Knights of Columbus dedicated these scholarship awards to Robbie Stevens who died in a tragic accident in May 2010. The council awarded three scholarships, including a Scholarship Award worth $1,000 and two Book Scholarship Awards worth $400 each. Scholarship applicants had to be 2011 high school graduates, members of St. James Catholic Church, Mason and had to provide an essay discussing their community, church and service activities and their leadership attributes and discuss how their pursuit of higher education will help them achieve their goals.

Casandra Williams was awarded the Scholarship Award and was a graduate of Mason High School. She was an officer in the National Honors Society at Mason High and also served in student government and was an officer in several clubs. In addition, there was a high level of distrust between some of the leadership and the board chair.” The commission’s 70 employees are responsible for the repair, maintenance and traffic safety of more than 1,249 miles of road in the county. It has an annual budget of about $22 million. Rodgers defended her leadership on the board. She acknowledged she has taken steps to ensure the agency follows equal opportunity guidelines and that minorities are considered for employment. She said her goal is to have an agency workforce “representative” of Ingham County. At the agency, whites now make up 82 percent of the staff, blacks consist of 6 percent and Hispanics make up 12 percent.

Fall Home Improvement Is D-I-Y a recipe for saving money overall? Many homeowners or renters wrestle with the question of whether to tackle a project as a do-it-yourself venture to save some money or simply leave it to a professional. Each situation is unique, but there are certain factors that must be considered regardless of a homeowner’s particular situation. On the surface, a DIY task can seem a very good way to save some money. After all, a large percentage, sometimes as much as 50 percent, of the cost of hiring a contractor goes toward labor. For a DIY job with no such costs, the final financial tally can be substantially less. Although labor can be expensive, that cost is often justified. People who hire carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and the like are paying for the workers’ experience. They’re also paying with the expectation that the job will be done correctly. With jobs that require a building permit or must be done to specific code, the contractor often puts his reputation on the line and will be held

Installing a new deck may be a project best left to the professionals because of the skill level required. FILE PHOTO accountable if the work doesn’t meet requirements. That isn’t to say an untrained individual can’t tackle a specific job around the house. There are some guidelines that may make such projects go more smoothly and, as a result, more affordable. • Read up and learn as much as you can about the particular

work to be done. It’s easier to make mistakes if you do not know where to start. • Talk to others who have also done the work. They may have some tips or advice that can save you time and money. You may also want to ask if they can help and show you the ropes. • Be sure to obtain all neces-

sary permits before starting any work. Don’t risk a fine for doing work without permits or having work inspected. • When applying for permits, find out if there is a list of codespecific requirements that you can follow -- a cheat-sheet of sorts. It may list rated materials required and any techniques. See if you can speak to an inspector who will be visiting your property later on to find out what he or she looks for specifically. • You must feel confident with the endeavor. If you are unsure about anything, you may risk injury or make a significant mistake and be forced to hire someone to clean up your mess. • Consider reputable sources for information. While it’s easy to go online and scour message boards for pointers on certain tasks, not all of the information is accurate. Trust only content from sources that are licensed or backed by certification in a certain area. These things being said, there are a number of DIY projects that

regular people can try. Starting off small and building up as skills are developed are good ways to begin. For example: • Tile a small kitchen backsplash before tackling an entire bathroom shower enclosure or floor. • Build an outdoor potting stand before attempting furniture or cabinetry work in a main room of the house. • Change out a ceiling fan or lighting fixture before re-running electrical lines through the home. • Succeed in repairing a leaky drain pipe before taking on a more advanced plumbing issue. • Use regular painting techniques first before experimenting with a trendy faux finish or plaster application. There are many different things individuals can do themselves that stretch beyond routine home maintenance. From manicures to pool upkeep, the potential to save money when budgets are tight can be a powerful motivator.

Ways to ready your home to withstand harsh winter weather insulation. Such joists won’t be visible in an adequately insulated attic. Put up the storm windows. It’s nice to open the windows in the spring and summer and let the warm air waft in through the screens. But when summer is over, it’s time to put up the storm windows once again. Storm windows add an extra layer of protection from the elements and are especially valuable in homes with single-pane glass windows. Homeowners who don’t have storm windows should consider upgrading their existing windows. Such a project isn’t cheap, but newer windows will almost certainly lead to lower heating costs, meaning the project will essentially pay for itself over time. Homeowners who can’t afford to replace all of their windows don’t have to replace them all at once. Instead, replace them a few at a time and make the

rooms where you spend the most time each winter the first on the list to receive new windows. Be diligent with the gutters. Leaves falling from trees is an idyllic image associated primarily with autumn. Unfortunately, when leaves fall they often fall into the gutters. Routinely clean the gutters once the leaves start to fall. Clean gutters will allow snow and rain to effectively drain through the gutters. If the gutters are clogged, snow might have nowhere to go when it begins to melt, and roof damage might result. Such damage is costly but preventable in most instances. One of the easier preventive measures to take is to routinely clean the gutters of leaves and other debris that accumulate during the fall. When cleaning the gutters, make sure they are properly aligned. Poorly aligned gutters can lead to a host of problems.

One such problem is flooding. If downspouts are not properly aligned with the rest of the gutters, then water might not be directed away from the home as it’s intended. Instead, water might be directed toward the home, resulting in flooding or additional water damage. Have the furnace cleaned. Experts recommend annual furnace cleanings. Before cold weather arrives, turn the furnace on to make sure it’s still working. An unpleasant odor should appear when first turning on the furnace, but it shouldn’t last very long. If the odor sticks around, turn the furnace off and call a professional. Once winter arrives, routinely replace the filters. This makes the furnace operate more efficiently and can also reduce the risk of fire.

their disposal to plug leaks, be it door sweeps that block air from entering under exterior doors to caulk applied around leaky windows. When using caulk outdoors, be sure to use a weatherresistant caulk or, if sealing brick, use masonry sealer. Add insulation upstairs. Homeowners who have an attic in their homes might want to consider adding some insulation up there. Experts recommend a minimum of 12 inches of insulation in the attic. That might prove costly, but a poorly insulated attic is akin to opening the front door and letting the heat out. It might be best for less-thanhandy homeowners to hire a professional to insulate the attic. But do-it-yourselfers might find it good to know that if the ceiling joists, which are often 11 inches or less, are visible, then the attic is in need of additional

FALL HOME IMPROVEMENT 2011

As autumn arrives, homeowners can take several steps to get their homes ready for whatever winter has to offer with the following tasks. Fix the leaks. A leaky home will prove an expensive home during the winter months. A home with many leaks will be much colder to inhabit, and homeowners typically turn up the heat to counter drafts that can make a home feel like a meat locker. But turning up the thermostat isn’t the answer. Instead, fix leaks in the fall before the cold weather arrives. Leaks should not be very hard to find. On the first breezy autumn afternoon, walk around the house in search of any drafty areas. These drafts will be noticeable and often occur around doors and window frames, electrical outlets and even recessed lighting. Homeowners have a host of options at

Things to consider when budgeting your home improvement Home improvement projects have become de rigueur for today’s homeowners. Be it a kitchen remodel or the ever popular man cave project, home improvement projects remain a goal for many. As enticing as a home improvement project might be, no project can be successful until a budget has been established. The right budget will keep homeowners from going deep into debt when improving their homes, ensuring that, upon the project’s completion, they can fully enjoy their revamped castles without the specter of significant debt hanging ominously over their heads. Before beginning a home improvement project, homeowners can take the following things into consideration.

Credit score: Before beginning a home improvement projects, homeowners should construct a budget to ensure the project is a success. FILE PHOTO

Many homeowners finance home improvement projects with loans from the bank. Particularly in the current economy when banks are being forced to tighten lending requirements, securing such loans isn’t easy. Homeowners with significant credit card debt should eliminate such debt before beginning a project. Doing so serves multiple purposes. First and foremost, eliminating outstanding debt will free up more money to allocate toward the project. Eliminating debt will also make loan applicants more attractive to prospective creditors, increasing their chances of securing a loan and a lower interest rate.

be able to go toward a project. Monthly expenses include everything from groceries to mortgage payments. When the comparison between monthly expenses and monthly income has been made, Project’s priority: homeowners can get a grasp Budgeting a home of just what they can and improvement project also cannot afford. involves being honest as

homeowners should examine their finances before starting a home improvement project. Just because a bank will loan out money for a project doesn’t mean the project is affordable. Homeowners should compare their monthly expenses with their Personal finances: incomes, and then deterIt sounds simple, but mine what’s left that might

to just how necessary the project is. For example, a man cave might be a dream project, but should it be a priority over other things around the house? If wear and tear is taking its toll on the roof, for instance, the money going toward the man cave should probably be allocated to replacing the roof instead. If a project is low on the priority list but high on the want list, re-examine those projects higher up on the priority list to determine if they are more deserving of immediate attention and funds than vanity projects.

Overrun costs: Not every home improvement project will come in at or under budget. Many go over budget due to a host of factors. Homeowners should not be caught off guard when a project goes over budget. Instead, plan for the project to go over and expect such frustration. Allocate extra money in the original budget for overrun costs. This will reduce stress and frustration, and if the project comes in under budget, then there’s extra money when the project is completed.

Fall lawn care, winter growth Warm-weather days will soon be a thing of the past and that means prepping the home and landscape for the arrival of winter weather. Even though it may be blanketed first by leaves and snow, lawns need treatment now to be sure they overwinter successfully. In fact, lawn experts say there is significant root growth that takes place during the winter -growth homeowners won’t necessarily see. People should continue to water their lawns throughout the autumn if there isn’t significant rain and to aerate it as well. Applying a fertilizer that is high in nitrogen can help foster strong root growth. Also, keep up on removing leaves that have fallen. Not only will they stifle the lawn, but they may cause excessive moisture and mold to grow while inhibiting sunlight from reaching the grass as well. Before winter arrives, take the time to sow some grass seeds into the bald patches.

It’s the season. The cold mornings are getting more frequent, and one of these days the need for heat reaches a tipping point, and you turn on the furnace. Nothing happens. Or you turn it on, but it doesn’t appear to be working or working as well as it usually does. Oh great. Before

you reach for the phone to call for a service call, run through this checklist of problems, provided by Hager Fox Heating & Air Conditioning. 1. Verify that your thermostat is set in the “heat” position. 2. Confirm that the temperature setting on the ther-

mostat is set above the indoor heat already showing. The furnace must have a reason for coming on. 3. Ensure that there is power to the furnace. 4. Check the circuit breakers at the electrical panel. 5. FILTER CHECK! This is our big one. Make sure that the furnace filter isn’t in need of replacement. Oneinch thick furnace filters Painting is a job that requires preparation and the should be replaced monthly. right equipment. At times homeowners are unsure about High capacity pleated filwhether they need to use primer or if just paint will do the trick. Although there are no firm rules, there are certain cases where one or the other will be adequate. Consider a room where the walls have been heavily stained, either by moisture infiltration, rust or another factor. Deep-set stains may bleed through regular paint, therefore a primer should be applied. There also are specialized primers that can be used in rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms that often contain a lot of moisture. These primers inhibit the growth of mold and mildew on painted surfaces. If a room is only to be painted white or tinted slightly with color, then a primer alone can be used. Rooms that are being painted that are already white and free of stains or other surface abnormalities may be painted sufficiently with just a coat of regular paint. If skipping primer, look for a high-quality, thick paint that boasts good coverage in one or two coats. There are new products today that offer primer and paint all in one combination. The jury is still out on the efficacy of these new items, but homeowners can experiment with these paints to see if they work for them.

that gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Mason blew the contest open in the second, with a 14-yard TD run and the 85-yard punt return by Lavalli, and a defensing touchdown, a 28-yard interception return by Nathan Rice, to give the Bulldogs a 29-0 lead at the half. VanHavel said that his team’s defense, which has scored more points than the offenses it has opposed in the last two weeks, is getting better.

running clock, and 19 McNamara found Logan Fitchett on a 36-yard touchdown pass to make the score 42-0 at the end of three quarters. The running clock and the driving rainstorm combined to hold the scoring down in the fourth, but Josh Flamme added a 33-yard field goal to make the final score 45-0. While happy with the result, VanHavel hopes that his team does not get complacent after their two wins over clearly overmatched opponents. “We are untested,” he said. “We played not so well on opening night against a good team (Okemos), and we’ve played a couple of teams that are struggling, so we still need to see where we are against a good team. That’s coming up in future weeks.” Mason will face one of those good teams this week when they travel to face a much-imporved Charlotte squad on Friday, Sept. 23.

Aggie’s turnovers kill big night of offense Scott Yoshonis syoshonis@lsj.com

PORTLAND – After starting out with two impressive CMAC football wins, Dansville’s season hit a speed bump with a 41-28 loss at Portland St. Patrick on Sept. 10. While the Aggie offense scored four touchdowns and gained 316 yards of total offense in the game, they turned the ball over six times in the game, starting with their first two possessions. The defense held after the first, a fumble on Dansville’s second snap of the game, but the second cost them when the Shamrocks picked off a Garret Soule pass and returned it to the Aggie 30 yard line. Two plays later, St. Pats scored on a 19-yard touchdown pass to put Dansville behind 7-0 with 4:28 left in the first quarter. The Aggies responded with a 12-play, 59-yard scoring drive, capped off by a 6-yard TD pass from Soule to Joe Parsons on the first

play of the second quarter, but the missed extra point kept Dansville trailing, 7-6. Yet another interception led to the Shamrocks’ next score, after St. Pats returned the pick to the Dansville 1-yard line and ran it in two plays later to stretch their lead to 14-6 with 7:58 left in the first half. The Aggies fought back on their next possession, an 8-play, 55-yard drive which ended with a 3-yard TD pass from Soule to Jesse Patterson, and a two-point conversion pass to Austin Hamilton, that tied the game at 14-14. St. Pats scored late in the second quarter, on a 45-yard TD pass with 1:04 left in the half to take a 21-14 lead at the break. The Aggies went further behind on a 20-yard St. Pats TD pass that made the score 27-14 with 6:16 left in the third quarter, but Dansville got back into the game with a 3-yard TD plunge by Parsons that closed the gap to 27-21 with 2:58 left in the third.

St. Pats scored again with 22.2 seconds left in the third to take a 35-21 lead, and the Aggies were bitten by the turnover bug again on the ensuing kickoff, fumbling it at their own 40-yard line. The Shamrocks recovered the fumble and con-

verted it into another TD seven plays later, making the score 41-21 with 8:53 left in the fourth quarter. Whatever hopes Dansville may have had of a comeback were quashed with yet another turnover, an interception at the St. Pats 21-yard line with

5:27 left in the contest. The Aggies didn’t quit, however, as Parsons set up their last touchdown with a 53-yard run down to the Shamrock 6-yard line in the final minute. Soule hit Hamilton on a 5-yard TD pass with 30.8 seconds on the clock to make the final score 41-28. “They outplayed us tonight, that’s the bottom

RARE COINS & SETS f or sale: One includes complete 1956-2011 US Mint Proof Coins. In the fall of 2010, this set had a Red Book retail of $1,094.50. In mid-September, 2011, the retail value of the set is now $1,964.90 with the surge in gold & silver. I would consider the best offer over $1,300.00. I have a 1909 "VDB" US Penny rated by PCGS as MS64RB, then an 1885 CC Morgan Silver Dollar in BU, the 2nd lowest mintage of ALL Morgan Silver Dollars (228,000) valued at approx. $1,300.00 +. The end of an era set with a ’63 Franklin 50 cent piece & a ’64 Kennedy 50 cent piece both rated by NGC in PR67. There’s an 1878 "7" tail feather Uncirculated Morgan Silver Dollar & finally a True American ARTIFACT Recovered from beneath the World Trade Center, at Ground Zero, from 9-112001. There was over $200 million in Gold & Silver coins locked in vaults beneath the WTC. This coin is 1 of few that survived in such great condition. Only the renowned PCGS Coin Firm was granted entry to verify the Authenticity & the Grade of each coin. The coin I have for sale is Rated a "2001" $1 Silver Eagle PCGS Gem Unc, 9-1101, WTC Ground Zero Recovery Artifact. It comes with 2 other priceless items. The 1st is a 2011 "W" (West Point Mint) $1 Silver Eagle PCGS graded PR70DCAM. A proof 70 deep cameo is the most perfect condition that any coin can be graded & the 2nd item is a coffee table book of the World wide events that have taken place since that fateful day 10 years ago. The 3 come together as a set, the Artifact from below Ground Zero, the Perfect Coin struck this very year, & the book highlighting events of 10 years. I have other coins & sets for sale, if you are seriously interested, you may call me on my cell phone at (517)-5250218. You will have to leave a message, but I will call you ASAP. Please leave your phone # twice, so I am sure to get it. I must insist we meet at Dart bank in either Mason or South Holt. The coins are normally stored there & it would be safer to conduct business there for all of us involved.
