We are honoured to be known as snəeyəɬ lelə, a name given to us by the Musqueam First Nation on whose unceded territory the College is located. snəeyəɬ lelə means house of teachings, a fitting name for a college that has long encouraged a culture of exploring new ground, digging deeper, and striving further. We are constantly investigating ideas and transforming thoughts.

A SENSE OF COMMUNITY. Alexandra Lainfiesta, Theatre Arts at Studio 58 Alumna Alexandra began dancing in Guatemala at the age of 13. Her dream was to pursue the performing arts, and she came to this country on her own in pursuit of that dream, but found there were struggles to overcome when she first arrived. She found her home in the theatre community; they became her family and provided her with much needed support. After graduation, Alexandra started the Glorian MacDewellis Award to help support other international students in the theatre arts program.

“The courage and sacrifices one makes to leave your home country, language, and culture to pursue the ever-fluctuating career of theatre deserves a huge acknowledgement and accolade. I take my hat off to the two recipients of this award so far,” said Alexandra.

MAKING AN IMPACT. Brittany Whitmore, Business Administration Alumna Brittany Whitmore came to Langara to build a career for herself. Driven by enthusiasm and diligence, she wanted to make an impact in her community.

Since graduating from Langara School of Management’s Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program in 2014, Brittany has founded TEDxGastownWomen, an annual event to empower women and girls, and launched her own public relations firm, Exvera Communications Inc. “I never expected that I would study business, or knew what opportunities were available in entrepreneurship or marketing,” said Whitmore. “The Langara School of Management encouraged me to find the confidence to speak up and voice my ideas. Langara was a huge turning point in my journey; I started my first business while in my second year, and my career really accelerated during my time in the program.”

IT’S ALL WORTH IT. Marjorie Dornan, Bachelor of Science in Nursing student Marjorie came to the decision to become a nurse later in life. She wanted to help people in the health care field, but wasn’t sure of her direction.

“I spent quite some time in the hospital with my mother as a teenager, and when I was thinking about going back to school I remembered what a huge impact nurses had on me during that time. I knew then that nursing was what I wanted to do.”

“Post-secondary education has been stressful, but you push yourself as hard as you can to be successful. I lost both my parents at a young age and have been supporting myself financially since I was 18. I knew I would have to work extra hard, but when I get to the end of this degree, I know how proud of myself I will feel, and all the struggles I have faced will be worth it.”

After spending a year at Langara, Arthur transferred to UBC, embarking on a journey that led him to become a Strength and Conditioning Assistant with the NFL’s Cleveland Browns.

Now, I take care of three different companies (Padtech Global Sourcing, Kiari Consulting, and Painted Picture) as bookkeeper and office administrator. My co-op job has become my permanent job.”

Studio 58, Langara’s professional theatre training program, presents four full-length plays and two Risky Nights projects between October and April every year.

Almost all productions are designed and directed by working professionals from the industry. Senior acting students perform in the shows, and production students, along with junior acting students, work backstage and provide technical support.

Performances are reasonably priced. Every show on campus has FREE student preview performances and $10 rush tickets for any student from any institution with valid ID.
