The area surrounding the site was of a monochromatic hue This colour changed shade from red sandstone to ochre coloured ground soil The blue sky and green vegetation contrasted with it. Taking inspiration from this setting, the building’s façade is a representation of this monochromatic hue with blue sky The building’s finish varies from rough sandstone cladding to grains of the brick to smooth plastered walls.

Urban intervention | Public Infiltration

Vision – Revitalise Hatti Tal.

Project Period : December – April 2020

Project Level : B - Arch 8th Semester

Group Project : Urban Study (10 members)

Individual Project : Public Market

Location : Pimpri-Chinchwad, MH, India

Population : 2 15 Million

This is a group project where we selected a 2 sq km area around the central park in Bhosari, PCMC, MH, IN for study, further divided into 3 parts, the old settlement (more than 500 yrs old) towards south of the central park , the industrial sector towards west of the central park, and the newer settlement towards east of the central park across NH60 After the urban study each individual selected a site for architectural intervention in line with the aim to revitalize the central lake which exists since before the old settlement

ACTION PLAN

Set guidelines for future development. Connection to the lake and maintain the existing urban fabric to introduce the character of the old town in the new development.

Public infiltration.

Add activities around the central public space. Connect the surrounding areas to the central public zone by breaking down visual and physical barriers.

Architectural intervention . An example of the vision that will activate the edge of the park

02 PUBLIC MARKET

The master plan is developed after land use, building age, building height and accessibility analysis of the selected are to identify potential sites for architecture intervention in line with the vision Further the canal and NH60 running north-south abutting the central park also influenced the design.

The map above show these potential sites for architecture intervention I have selected site A next to NH60 to design a public market The urban study also resulted in identifying the amenities that lack in the area, like a well designed public market that sell all the necessary items

Reasons for site selection.

• Site at junction, abutting NH60

• Bus terminal adjacent to site (people slow down boosts commercial activities)

• Edge to central public space (infiltration opportunity)

• Building will give an identity to the town

ACHETAN SANSAADHAN

Solid Waste | Energy Generation | Plant

Vision – Waste As A Resource.

Project Period : December – April 2020

Project Level : B - Arch 10th Semester

Individual Project : Architectural Thesis

Location : Pimpri-Chinchwad, MH, India

Population : 2 15 Million

In the quest to claim the title of the cleanest city, the Municipal Corporation adopts the philosophy of "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" regarding waste, resulting in flawed waste management practices The accumulation of solid waste at dumping sites, now encroaching upon urban spaces, has become a significant concern for nearby residents, contributing to urban pollution The general lack of knowledge about the potential value and recyclability of waste exacerbates the situation. This calls for an urban intervention

This project is dedicated to enhancing municipal solid waste management, focusing on energy recovery and transforming dumping grounds into public spaces. As the city expands, the central waste management facility is anticipated to be integrated within the city's limits. This initiative aims not only to improve waste processing efficiency but also to repurpose land, aligning with sustainable urban development goals.

ACTION PLAN

Setup a GTS (Garbage Transfer Station). Decentralize the waste management ward/zone-wise.

Public connection.

Prepare the master plan for Central Processing Plant.

Architectural intervention .

An example of the vision that will facilitate a better IEC system.

Master Plan Concept Design

The master plan is developed keeping in mind public interest along with the primary function of the site as a municipal solid waste management (MSWM) site

The primary function of the site is targeted to safely handle municipal solid waste and generate useful products while doing so like, electricity, manure, construction materials, etc. (Image 1)

The land use division is governed by following factors :

• Public interaction – IEC Activities.

• Type of waste management facilities and corelation between them

• Waste cycle from start to end product

• Topography.

• Site surrounding.

Spaces like exhibition hall, amphitheater, park, etc are used for IEC activities which promote waste as a resource.

The building is planned considering following factors:

• Correlation of departments

• People’s movement

• Spillover spaces

• Building services.

The building form is reflect about factors creating a composition of blocks of various heights.

Thesis Learnings

Throughout my thesis, I gleaned crucial insights spanning social, architectural, and technical spheres Socially, I uncovered the critical role of relationships among government agencies and the negative impact of insufficient waste management information, alongside a general public aversion to waste-related discussions Architecturally, I learned the importance of designing spaces that cater to varied intellectual needs, integrating building elevations harmoniously with the landscape, and developing interactive display areas to effectively communicate specific messages. Technically, my research shed light on diverse waste management practices and explored various energy generation methods These lessons collectively underscored the interconnectedness of social dynamics, architectural planning, and technical solutions in addressing environmental challenges

06 TEACH FOR INDIA

Volunteer Work

I volunteered with a Teach For India Fellow to introduce architecture to 6th grade government school students Here I delivered 12 sessions over 6 weeks

I have been learning about architecture for the past 8 yrs , with 5 yrs of bachelors degree and 3 yrs of professional practice one thing I strongly believe and it have be proven from time to time that architecture requires regular research and innovation. I should strive to do so to keep progressing as a professional Thus, I would be honoured to be a part of the Bartlett community and expand my learnings of architecture and urban design through this program.
