THE GIRL OF TORRE PALI
A
mong the many legends that animate the history of Salento there is one linked to the Isola della Fanciulla, a small island not far from Torre Pali. It is said that during a raid by the Saracens a young girl was kidnapped, the daughter of a farmer from the hinterland. The girl tried in vain to escape but the Saracens appreciated her tenacity and offered her freedom in exchange for her conversion to Islam. The young girl refused and for this reason she was killed and thrown into the sea. Her body was found on this island, which from that day on was renamed Isola della Fanciulla.

egroamaro Alezio Doc cultivated in the Li Cuti estate, in the countryside of Sannicola, owned by the Coppola family since 1489 and handed down from father to son. Li Cuti Rosso is a wine with an intense ruby red colour, a dry flavour and a vinous aroma. In 2013 and 2014 it was awarded a prize in the national competition "Douja d'Or" Asti in the category of DOC and DOCG wines. He was awarded by the Radici del Sud competition where he won the second prize in the Negroamaro category by the national jury and for two years at the Douja d'Or d'Asti.

Spaghetti with anchovies
Ingredients: spaghetti, breadcrumbs, cherry tomatoes, rocket, anchovies in oil, garlic, chili, extra virgin olive oil Cantina Coppola
Prepare a pan with the extra virgin olive oil and breadcrumbs and let it toast. Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti. In another pan cook the anchovies with some oil and then add the tomatoes cut in half, the rocket coarsely chopped, garlic, chilli pepper and a pinch of salt. When the spaghetti are still al dente, sauté them in the pan adding a little more oil and breadcrumbs. A simple and really tasty dish.

fter having told you the legend of the island, we cannot but tell you about Torre Pali, along the thing south of Gallipoli. Torre Pali is a small marina in Salve and has a sea that is second to no other place in Salento. It was born as a small fishing village although, in recent years, it has become an important tourist destination. Every year, in fact, Torre Pali welcomes thousands of guests, ready to dive into its crystal clear waters. The village owes its name to the tower that hosts it and that now, due to coastal erosion, is about 15 metres from the mainland and is surrounded by the sea. Another place that has made Salento famous all over the world.
