A few months ago, Kenichi Ebina was an amateur dancer performing with a Japanese dance troupe. Tonight he is a rising star and $1 million richer, after capturing the crown on season 8 of "America's Got Talent." Kenichi — who dazzled America with his robotic moves and creative choreography — earned the most votes in this popular nationwide talent competition. five impressive finalists: Sultry singer Cami Bradley, teen magician Collins Key, opera trio Forte, country singer Jimmy Rose and awkward comedian Taylor Williamson. All season long, Kenichi graced the AGT stage with his crisp and unique free-style dances, some in which he would move in sync or interact with background dancers shown on a large screen behind him. Those background dancers were actually Kenichi in pre-recorded segments, and somehow he found a way to blend the video clips together and almost flawlessly move in unison with the guys on the screen. Kenichi also wowed the nation with some incredible body twists and scary head maneuvers. The show's judges - and America clearly loved this guy.

Black women are joining traditionally white sororities at the University of Alabama amid efforts to end racial segregation within Greek-letter social groups. University President Judy Bonner said Friday that four black students and two other minority students have accepted bids to pledge white sororities. The move comes after a protest march across campus and complaints following a student newspaper report about some sororities rejecting prospective members because of their race last month. The university changed recruitment rules in an attempt to make it easier for the groups to accept minority members.
A few blacks have joined white groups in the past and vice versa, but most groups have remained segregated. Bonner has called for "systemic" change in Greek organizations at Alabama, where about one-quarter of the undergraduates are members.

Teen gets 30 years in videotaped beating death According to NBCNEWS, A 19-year-old man was sentenced to 30 years in prison on September 12th for the beating death of a 62-year-old Chicago man that was recorded on a cell phone and uploaded to Facebook. Anthony Malcolm was convicted of first-degree murder and robbery for his role in the attack that killed 62-year-old Delfino Mora. According to prosecutors, Malcolm and two other co-defendants last July decided to play a game they called “Pick ‘em out, knock ‘em out.” The three targeted Mora who was in an alley in the West Rogers Park neighborhood collecting cans to sell for cash. “I’m sorry,” Malcolm said in court. “I can feel your pain.” One of the teens, Malik Jones, punched Mora and knocked him unconscious then stole his money. The father of 12 and grandfather of 23 died the following day. Malcolm recorded the attack on a cellphone and uploaded the video to Facebook. Judge Joseph Claps said Malcolm is an accessory not only for videotaping the attack but also because he never reported the attack to authorities. “He left him in the alley like a piece of garbage," said prosecutor James Murphy. “To them it was funny, they laughed.” Malcolm’s family believes he should not go to prison for holding a cellphone. “He was a studious child. Respectful,” Malcolm’s aunt and retired Chicago Public Schools teacher Rosemary Rodriguez said. “I never saw anything else but that.” Despite the family's pleas, Malcolm was sentenced Thursday to 22 years for murder and eight more for robbery. “It should be no surprise good people do bad things,” Claps said. “There are two Anthony Malcolms. There must be a deterrent for people who choose violence for some past-time.” The remaining two defendants are still awaiting trial.

President Obama's healthcare law is hated and loved by some so much that they are willing to shut down the government over it. I'm not sure I've ever seen so much passion over an issue about which so few (myself included) know as much as we should. I wrote about this divide when Obamacare was in front of the US supreme court. Americans were opposed to "Obamacare", or the Affordable Care Act, yet they were in favor of many of its provisions. Not surprisingly, Americans lacked knowledge of what exactly the law did. So, as the political fight has intensified, on the eve of implementation of one of the ACA's key provisions, the creation of new health insurance pools, how much has changed? Does the noisy debate on the ACA mean Americans are better-informed than before about Obamacare? Here are five ways Americans' opinions about Obamacare have and have not evolved over the past year. Americans have grown more negative in their views The HuffPollster chart tells the story fairly well. World hunger falls but bigger push The number of people who are chronically undernourished has fallen from an estimated 868 million in 2010-12 to 842 million in 2011-13, according to a UN report that celebrates progress made, but warns that "considerable and immediate additional efforts" will be needed to meet global goals to reduce hunger by 2015. The 2013 state of food insecurity in the world report, published on Tuesday, says developing countries have collectively made significant progress towards the millennium development goal (MDG) target to halve the prevalence of undernourishment between 1990 and 2015. According to revised estimates, in 1990-92 roughly 23.6% of people in developing countries were undernourished, implying an MDG target of 11.8% for 2015. If current rates of progress continue, the report says, the prevalence of undernourishment in the developing world will approach 13% by 2015 – close to, but still above, the MDG target. Progress towards the "more ambitious" goal set by the 1996 World Food Summit (WFS) has been much more modest, the report notes. The WFS target aims to halve the number – rather than the proportion – of hungry people, and also has a deadline of 2015. To meet this target, the number of hungry people in developing countries would have to fall to 498 million by 2015. This is simply "out of reach at the global level", the report says, though several individual countries may meet the target and more than 20 did so by 2012. According to the figures, Africa has the highest rates of hunger, with almost one in four people (24.8%) thought to be undernourished. The most rapid progress towards the MDG target has been recorded in south-east Asia, where the prevalence of undernourishment has fallen from 31.1% in 1990-92 to an Estimated 10.7% today. needed to meet global goals Many countries who are not on track to meet international goals on hunger face "severe constraints", the report says, noting the particular challenges of countries that have experienced conflict in recent years, or that have poor infrastructure and weak political institutions. The report says, however, that the MDG target can be met if developing countries make significant extra efforts to address immediate needs and sustain longer-term progress. "With a final push in the next couple of years, we can still reach it," the heads of the three Rome-based UN food agencies wrote in a foreword. The report, which precedes the Committee on World Food Security's meetings in Rome this month, says governments should consider increasing support for social protection programmes, including cash-transfer and voucher schemes. "As the target year is fast approaching, there is a need for programmes that deliver quick results. Measures to improve access to food through safety nets and similar interventions can do this," it says. The report also notes the role that remittances from migrants abroad can play in boosting food security. Remittances, which are globally estimated to be worth more than three times foreign aid from rich countries, have in some countries not only helped to cut poverty levels, but also to reduce hunger and improve diets, it says. The UN has for decades tracked global hunger levels by estimating the number of people unable to access sufficient calories for an active life. Its measure has been criticised in recent years for failing to capture the impact of acute shocks and food price crises. The report acknowledges the limitations of the current approach and presents a suite of additional indicators – including measures of physical infrastructure such as roads and railways – to complement the main prevalence of undernourishment estimates. A broader set of measures is needed to reflect the "multidimensional nature of food insecurity", says the report, which points out, as an example, that in some countries, though the prevalence of hunger may be low, undernutrition rates, or the proportion of underweight children, is high. The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, meanwhile, is working on a new measure of selfreported food security, based on annual data collected globally through the Gallup World Poll.

Little Richard reveals how an aspirin saved him from dying of a heart attack Sean Michaels Little Richard has revealed that he recently suffered a heart attack. Speaking to Cee Lo Green in an onstage interview, the 80year-old rock'n'roll singer divulged that he had almost died in Nashville about a week before. Richard made the remarks during an appearance at Atlanta's W Hotel to launch a series of music debates: "The other night, I didn't know I was having a heart attack," he said, according to Access Atlanta. "I was coughing, and my right arm was aching. I told my son, 'Make the room as cold as ice.' So he turned the airconditioning on, and I took a baby aspirin. The doctor told me that saved my life. Jesus had something for me. He brought me through." Although the Tutti Frutti singer appears to have fully recovered, he reportedly travelled from Nashville to Atlanta on a tour-bus fitted with a hospital bed. The singer seemed to be full of thoughts about the afterlife and spoke often and stridently at the appearance about his identity as a Christian and his relationship with God: "God talked to me the other night," he said. "When I talk to you about [Jesus], I'm not playing. I'm almost 81 years old. Without God, I wouldn't be here." Elsewhere in the interview, Richard and Green traded a cappella ditties and sartorial compliments. "I wanted to wear something fabulous to make sure you didn't miss me," said Green – wearing a sparkling golden tunic. "When you came in," Richard replied, "I said, 'He looks like the living flame!'" Admitted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at its inaugural ceremony, in 1986, Little Richard last released an album in 1992.
Retired prison officer shares home with pet crocodile

Caesar, who was only a foot long when Mr Weller bought him, lives on a diet of raw salmon and steak and is prevented from escaping into the outside world by a three door lock system. He said his 40 years of service at HMP Rochester had been good practice for caring for his unusual pet, saying: "I spent four decades keeping dangerous animals behind locks and gates, so it's no different here. "As he's grown up he's used to the safety systems and I never have any concerns about going to bed and him waking up next to me." Mr Weller moved into the loft of his home to allow Caesar, who is five foot six and still growing, to roam around. He said: "He's my closest companion and most of my day revolves around feeding, cleaning and entertaining him. "Most people are terrified when they find out I live with a crocodile, but I've raised him since he was a baby and now he's completely docile." The pair spend their days reading books, watching TV and listening to their favourite radio station Classic FM whilst Mr Weller tends to his other animals, including terrapin turtles, parrots, lizards Caimans can grow up to seven foot long, and live for 40 years. Mr Weller said: "As he's got older he's become happier to be around me and he likes nothing more than watching TV and listening to the radio. "When I first got him he was very difficult to look after and care for, as he would often bite me and it's as painful as it sounds," he said, "But now he's very relaxed and placid." He added he had been planning to buy Caesar a female partner, but he believes that one would be too difficult to introduce to his routine.

A mystery thriller about the resurrection of Jesus is being planned byWaterworld director Kevin Reynolds, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Backers LD Entertainment have pitched it as "Gladiator in tone but with a mystery bent, an all-ages movie that tells of how the first Easter came to be". Reynolds is attached to Resurrection, which is described as the story "of the first 40 days after the resurrection of Jesus" as seen through the eyes of an "agnostic Roman centurion charged by Pontius Pilate to investigate rumors of a risen Jewish messiah and locate the missing body of Jesus of Nazareth". The narrative takes place against the backdrop of "an imminent uprising in Jerusalem, and the centurion "meets the Apostles and other historical and biblical characters". Resurrection is to be produced by Patrick Aiello, whose previous credits include Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, and the script was written by his brother Paul Aiello. Reynolds, who directed Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner, as well as Waterworld, has been quiet of late in terms of feature films, though he recently reunited with Costner on the award-winning TV miniseries Hatfields & McCoys.

Researchers found that less than half of what made up a chicken nugget was actually chicken meat. NEW YORK — Stand-up comedians have long joked that some things, like the actual components of chicken nuggets, are better left mysterious. Recently, Mississippi researchers found out why: two nuggets they examined consisted of 50 percent or less chicken muscle tissue, the breast or thigh meat that comes to mind when a customer thinks of "chicken."
The nuggets came from two national fast food chains in Jackson. The three researchers selected one nugget from each box, preserved, dissected and stained the nuggets, then looked at them under a microscope. The first nugget was about half muscle, with the rest a mix of fat, blood vessels and nerves. Close inspection revealed cells that line the skin and internal organs of the bird, the authors write in the American Journal of Medicine. The second nugget was only 40 percent muscle, and the remainder was fat, cartilage and pieces of bone. "We all know white chicken meat to be one of the best sources of lean protein available and encourage our patients to eat it," lead author Dr. Richard D. deShazo of the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, said. "What has happened is that some companies have chosen to use an artificial mixture of chicken parts rather than low-fat chicken white meat, batter it up and fry it and still call it chicken," deShazo told Reuters Health. "It is really a chicken by-product high in calories, salt, sugar and fat that is a very unhealthy choice. Even worse, it tastes great and kids love it and it is marketed to them." The nuggets he examined would be okay to eat occasionally, but he worries that since they are cheap, convenient and taste good, kids eat them often. His own grandchildren "beg" for chicken nuggets all the time, and he compromises by making them at home by pan-frying chicken breasts with a small amount of oil, deShazo said. "Chicken nuggets are an excellent source of protein, especially for kids who might be picky eaters," said Ashley Peterson, vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs for the National Chicken Council (NCC), a non-profit trade group representing the U.S. chicken industry.

The project found itself at the center of a heated bidding war between broadcast networks and cable networks, with CBS ultimately proving triumphant by committing to a 13-episode straight-to-series order. Extant has been billed as a futuristic thriller about a female astronaut (Berry) trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space. The character's experiences lead to events that ultimately change the course of human history. The casting coup of Berry is as much a commentary on the strength of the spec script as it is on the state of the film business, particularly for actresses over 40. Spielberg, along with Greg Walker and Mickey Fisher, who penned the script, will executive produce with Brooklyn Weaver, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank. CBS Television Distribution will handle domestic distribution, while CBS Studios International will handle worldwide rights. Adam Rodin will co-exec produce.
