Welcome back to another great year at Pearl School, West Bay campus. We are delighted to introduce our first edition of News Letter “Pearl’s Highlights” of the session 2021-2022. Pearl’s Highlights is drafted with an aim to keep you updated about the events and activities that are ongoing in the school after its reopening on 7th April 2021. Our school staff have been busy in preparing meaningful learning opportunities to support our students to ensure that our children remain connected and challenged throughout this comprehensive remote learning period. This newsletter is a summary of all the curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular events ranging from school wide assemblies, slide shows, zoom meetings, classroom virtual lessons, events and celebrations, cultural and literary activities and online assessments that have occurred in the school from 7th April 2021 to 17th June 2021. Besides having information in the form of articles and write ups, this newsletter carries photos and images of our children highlighting their active involvement on a digital platform even when Covid-19 has shuttered ‘in person’ learning in school.

We strongly believe that this newsletter can be a great way to develop a strong relationship with parents with a collaborative approach in making decisions pertaining to our students’ growth and development.

GRADE 1 – PARENT ORIENTATION (WEST BAY CAMPUS) “At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents”.

Pearl School had organized a parent orientation on 12 th April 2021. As the Grade 1 students embark on their journey to a full day school, it was a fantastic opportunity for the parents to know what to expect in the coming year and also equip themselves for it. The class teachers were introduced to the parents on this occasion. A special session on School Mission and Vision, Overview of School Portal and Online Platform, Presentation on Parents Portal and Tips on Prewriting Activities were conducted by the Coordinators. Through healthy partnerships of parents and teachers, the school creates a space for students to define how they will engage, learn and thrive. Mr. Sam Mathew, President of Pearl School, Ms.Manjari Recriwal, Principal and Ms. Geetha SomaSekharan, Vice Principal addressed the gathering.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS (WEST BAY CAMPUS) Pearl School organized professional development programs to ensure that educators continue to strengthen their best practices throughout their career. Professional development programs are planned for the whole year taking into consideration, the needs of students after identifying the gaps. School has scheduled a variety of programs to enhance the teachers with collaborative and innovative teaching strategies.

Teachers apply this knowledge, ideas and information for increasing students’ achievement. In order to establish a link between students’ achievement and school improvement strategies professional development program paves a way for strengthening the education system.

Vice Principal Ms .Geetha Somasekaran conducted session on “Learning Objectives and Learning Outcomes” in order to equip the teachers with the latest pedagogical trends. A session on “Best Educational Practices” was conducted in which teachers took active participation and expressed their ideas and innovations. Guide lines for the preparations of “Annual Pedagogical Plan” was also discussed and shared with the teachers.

Dr. Rupali, the Quality Assurance Coordinator familiarized the teachers with the school policies and procedures through “Policy dissemination” sessions.

An annual executive plan is in place as professional development is the only way to strengthen educator’s performance level and raise student achievement.

PEER LEARNING FOR TEACHERS ( WEST BAY CAMPUS ) With an aim to share the best practices, knowledge, ideas and experience between the teachers, Pearl school is organizing peer learning sessions among the teachers, a way of moving beyond independent to interdependent or mutual learning. Teachers develop new skills in organizing and planning learning activities, working collaboratively with others, giving and receiving feedback and evaluate their own teaching styles. All these endeavors are part of larger integrated strategies that provide teachers with an enhanced choice of modes for professional development. Further, it provides continuous opportunities to teachers to learn from each other. It recognizes the need for teachers to have access to platforms that promote trust, respect, and a sense of purpose. motivated

WORLD HEALTH DAY ( WEST BAY CAMPUS) Pearl School Organized a “ Poster Making Competition” for class 1 to class 8 on 22.04.2021 as a part of World Health Day in order to create an awareness among the students about significance of maintaining good health. Students participated enthusiastically and exhibited their talents by portraying their imaginations in the form of art work. Winners of the competition are listed below.

EARTH DAY ( WEST BAY CAMPUS) Pearl School celebrated “Earth Day” on 22nd April 2021 to make the students aware about the importance of protecting our planet-Earth .

Students were made to feel connected to environmental topics inorder to help them to visualise the world they want to live in.

Online Art integrated activities were organised for the students of different classes. Students portrait their imaginations by drawing, colouring and sketching the different aspects of Reduce , Reuse , and Recycling of natural resources.

MOTHERS’ DAY CELEBRATION (WEST BAY CAMPUS)

“A Mother is she who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one else can take” Mother’s day is a special day for all children and mothers as it celebrates the bond of love and affection that is everlasting.

Mothers are the emotional backbone of the family, who have the magic touch to heal all wounds and make life worth living.

The students of Pearl School, hosted their mothers on this special occasion. The event was held on 14th May 2021. To honor and appreciate all mothers, students made colorful cards to express their love and gratitude. Mother’s day cards, messages and photographs made this day a special one.

EID CELEBRATION (WEST BAY CAMPUS) Eid was celebrated at Pearl School to enlighten the students about the spirit of festival, symbolizing the unity of an international community. Eid is one of the major festival observed all over the world to spread joy, happiness and brotherhood.

On this special occasion, Students from Grade 1 to 5 made posters and cards to express their love and unity. Festive lanterns were also made by children with zeal and fervor.

Pearl School extended Eid wishes to the community.

INTER SCHOOL DEBATE COMPETITION (WEST BAY CAMPUS) “It is better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it” -Joseph Joubert, French Writer.

The students of Pearl School, participated in an Inter-school Virtual Debate Competition hosted by Shantiniketan Indian School on 27th May, 2021. The students competed with 8 other Indian Schools on the topic “School Examinations should be redesigned to be online during the pandemic and beyond”. Kalyani Reji and Zaid Zubair Malol of Grade 11 participated in this Competition. Mr.Lokesh and Ms.Druvi (English Department) trained the debaters for the competition.

Pearl School bagged 2nd Runner Up.

QURAN RECITATION (WEST BAY CAMPUS) Recitation of the Qur'an without contemplation and thought is futile.

-Ali ibn Abi Talib The Student of Pearl School, participated in an Inter-school Virtual Quran Recitation Competition hosted by Q mass, an affiliated sociocultural organization under the aegis of Indian Embassy in connection with holy month of Ramadan on 21st May, 2021. Aisha Khan of Grade VIII participated in this competition with the mesmerizing reciting skill.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY (WEST BAY CAMPUS)

“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.” – John F. Kennedy Pearl School, West Bay campus had organized its investiture ceremony for the session 2021-22 on a virtual platform to promote leadership capabilities and talents among the students. The Deserving young talents of Pearl School were bestowed with the responsibility of leading their School from the front with their commitment, confidence and competence. It was a solemn occasion where the young students were all prepared to don the mantle of leadership and discharge the responsibilities entrusted upon them by the school.

The ceremony started with welcome speech by the Coordinator Ms. Lali and it was flagged off with an inspiring speech by the Director Mr. Sam Mathew. He congratulated the newly appointed school council members and their preparedness to take up responsibilities entrusted to them. Ms. Manjari Recriwal, Principal entreated the students to follow what they preach and translate the vision of the school into reality. Ms. Geetha Somasekharan, Vice Principal emphasized the roles and responsibilities of the leaders and insisted on the leadership qualities. It was a proud moment for the parents who felicitated their wards with the badges and sashes. The Head Boy and the Head Girl along with the council members were imparted with the duty of enhancing young leaders and pledged the oath.

The program ended with vote of thanks by Ms. Rajani Murthy followed by National Anthem.

“All labour that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance, and hence should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.”

To celebrate this painstaking effort of the labour force, that work tirelessly, the International Worker’s Day also called as Labour Day, was celebrated at Pearl School, Doha Qatar on 2nd May 2021 with great zeal. Labour Day is a reminder for us that these are the real architects of our society, and they deserve their due respect. We have always believed that it is small acts of kindness that count and we attempt to inculcate that same virtue in our children. The teachers briefed the children about Labour Day and its importance. A video presentation consisting of the speeches given by educators and children (Veda P.Nair, Athish, Aleena) was made and shared with all the other students and parents through the school portal. The program was organized by Ms.Sindhu. All the drivers ,attenders, security and cleaners were given a memento as a token of love and gratitude. The activity was designed to forge a better understanding of the labour community among our students who must learn to respect and appreciate their efforts. Overall it was a fruitful day which taught our little ones to be thankful to every one.

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY- GRADE 2 (West Bay Campus) “Every morning is a new opportunity to do things you missed yesterday”.

Morning assembly undoubtedly holds a significant position among all the routine activities in a school. It hones the skills of children, boost their confidence towards public speaking and imbibe a feeling of team spirit in their minds. Keeping these objectives in mind, the students of class -2 Pearl School West Bay Campus conducted a special assembly on Monday, 24th of May 2021 and

welcomed the students for the

new session 2021-2022.The assembly commenced with the Morning Prayer which is believed to provide peace and serenity to our minds and souls. The school prayer and mission and vision were delivered by Aswin of class 2WC, Zeba of class 2WD and Lavanya of class 2WA respectively.

Comperes of the assembly Master. Lokenath of class 2WD and Faiha of class 2WB mesmerised the audience with their oratory skills. They compered the assembly with great confidence and zest. Word of the day“Assembly” was announced by Faiha of class

2WB

and

she explained

its

usage. Thought of the day was

delivered

by Sivadev of class 2WB and it urged the students to start their day with encouragement and inspiration. A warm and sincere welcome gives a sense of caring and makes everyone feel appreciated. Keeping these objectives in mind, Sudharsan of Class 2- WA delivered a warm welcome speech and welcomed Grade-1 students.

Principal Ms. Manjari Recriwal welcomed, addressed and interacted with the students, which was followed by an inspirational address by Vice Principal Ms. Geetha Somasekharan. Teachers of grade I & II extended their greetings through a mesmerizing welcome song assisted by the music teacher Mr. Javed. With the motive of disseminating news around the world as well as the main highlights of Pearl School, Pearl News Bulletin was presented by Vishantak of class 2WC. The highlight of his news delivery was the virtual newsroom effect which gave the audience the real feel of a newsroom. Vote of thanks to show gratitude was delivered by Tharunan Ragupathy of Class 2- WC. The assembly dispersed after the National Anthem.

CLASS ASSEMBLY (WEST BAY CAMPUS) An online assembly on the theme ‘Hobbies Make Life Interesting’ was conducted by Class 4WA students on 6th June 2021. The assembly commenced with the school prayer followed by the Mission /Vision of School and a thought on ‘Hobbies’. The theme was colorfully presented by the students through various PowerPoint slides. The main aim of the assembly was to give a clear picture to the students about different types of hobbies and how hobbies help to reduce stress and make the life interesting. Having a hobby in this pandemic situation helps the people to engage themselves both physically and mentally. Feeling bored affects the emotion of the people leading to depression. Hobby is one of the best ways to have a sound body and mind. Our Vice Principal, Geetha Ma’am motivated the students to inculcate reading habits and other hobbies as per the areas of interest. The assembly was then concluded with Qatar National Anthem and Indian National Anthem.

ONLINE ASSESSMENT REPORT (WEST BAY CAMPUS) ‘Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.’

COVID-19 has caused an adverse impact throughout the globe. Even during unprecedented situation like covid-19, Pearl School values in providing the best quality education to the young generation, without deviating from the mission and vision of the school.

To assess the academic standards of the students, the best Online Assessment Tool-Microsoft Forms has been chosen which helps to assess the students’ performance through different modes.

Online Assessment, Periodic Test-1 was conducted for classes’ 1-VIII from 23rd May21 to 3rd June21.

Though the assessment was conducted through online, yet it created a normal exam atmosphere same as the physical classroom. The students were invigilated in the best possible ways to avoid malpractices.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY (WEST BAY CAMPUS ) World Environment Day was celebrated in Pearl School, West Bay Campus on 5 th June 2021 with an aim to spread awareness among the students, the need to protect the environment and the ways to do it.

The day was flagged off by a tree plantation drive in the school premises.

Students and staff participated in plantation drives to make their surrounding green.

Pledge to reduce plastic in the school was taken by all the teachers and students which was led by Ms. Geetha Somasekaran, the Vice Principal of the school. She also encouraged the students to reuse, reduce, and recycle plastic products in their daily lives. The objectives for celebrating World Environment Day were disseminated to the students through a video presentation of students’ speeches and plantation activities to make them more sensitive towards environment protection. An Essay Writing Competition was organized to sensitize the students’, on the topic “Go Green QatarWhat will be your contribution as a resident of this country in attaining this goal”.

Students and staff participated in the program with much zeal.

PARENT TEACHER MEETING (WEST BAY CAMPUS)

Parent Teacher Meeting for classes I to VIII was held from 6th June to 10th June 2021 to discuss the performance of students with their parents. Parents were given feedback on their ward’s performances in PT 1 examination. The main purpose of the meet was to create a common platform, where parents and teachers come together to enrich the student’s educational experiences and discuss both the strengths and areas of improvements. It was a great interaction between the teacher and the parents for the holistic development of students. They appreciated the school’s teaching learning processes through online platform. The PTM was concluded successfully with positive feedback from the parents about the efforts of the school and the teachers. The feedback given by the parents are incorporated in to the school’s future planning and implementation.

WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS (WEST BAY CAMPUS) FACEBOOK LIVE SESSION ON “THE COVID VACCINE EXPLAINED” Pearl School in collaboration with Dr. Romeena Nizamudheen, Naseem Medical Center conducted a Facebook live Session on 6thJune 2021 on the topic “ Covid vaccination “.The topics discussed in the session were, general information of vaccines available for Covid prevention, post vaccination effects and vaccination for children.

The parents of all three campuses of Pearl School was invited to attend the Facebook live session. The participants posted their queries related to vaccination during the question answer session and the doctor clarified their doubts. It was a useful and informative session. As a part of “Hubs of Learning”, Pearl School collaborated the program with their partner school “ IDEAL SCHOOL”.

Ms. Devika the School Nurse, in collaboration with Naseem Medical Center organized the program successfully.

KALEIDOSCOPE COLOURING COMPETITION WEST BAY CAMPUS

Class I & II “Every child is an artist”. Keeping this in mind and to explore the creative potential in the young minds of our children, a Colouring Competition was conducted on Sunday, 6th June 2021. It helped the kids to develop their eye-hand coordination and creativity. It was held in their respective classes during school hours through MS- Teams. They could show case their creativity by finding out the choice of colours appropriate to the given picture. It was a wonderful platform for the children to express their imagination through art.

KALEIDOSCOPE COMPETITION ENGLISH POEM RECITATION ( WEST BAY CAMPUS) ‘Poetry is the art of uniting pleasure with truth’ An Intra Class Poem Recitation Competition was organized on 10th and 13th June 2021 at Pearl School, West Bay campus for classes I to VI. It was held in their respective classes during class hours through MS- Teams. The children came up with different poems on various themes and recited them with great zeal and enthusiasm. It enabled them to develop creativity, selfconfidence and build a foundation for further learning and development. The participants exhibited their confidence, expressions and talent in the activity. It was indeed a great pleasure to watch the little ‘Pearls’ reciting their beautiful poems with much enthusiasm and vigour.

KALEIDOSCOPE COMPETITIONS “JUST A MINUTE ’’ AN UPCOMING EVENT

(WEST BAY CAMPUS) “Take care of your minutes and the hours will take care of themselves.”

The “Just a Minute” competition tests student’s creativity, presence of mind and command over language all within a span of one minute. It invites the student speaker to speak on a given topic without hesitation, repetition or deviation. This upcoming event is planned for 15th and 16th June 2021. The participants will display their oratory skills and need to speak without hesitation, murmuring, unwanted pauses and also without deviating from the topic with fluency. This JAM session provides a platform for the students to showcase their talent and expertise in impromptu speech and their thinking skills. The circular with regard to the participation in this event has been sent to the students for registration. Interested students can enroll their names to the class teachers before the due date.

ENGLISH DAY CELEBRATION (WEST BAY CAMPUS)

Pearl School, West Bay Campus celebrated International English Day, which is traditionally observed as the birth and death anniversary of William Shakespeare. The day was celebrated with an aim to increase awareness among the students, respect for the history, culture of the English Language, the achievements of the innumerable writers, poets and playwrights. There were many activities and quizzes designed for various Grades, which were educative as well as entertaining. These activities were planned to improve students’ oratory skills and appreciate the contribution of great writers.

Each student is different in terms of learning ability, concept clarity, previous learning levels, and academic performance. Each of them has his or her own way of learning.

Remedial education is assigned to assist students in order to achieve expected competencies in core academic skills. Students who have temporarily facing problems to understand the concepts in their subjects or otherwise need shortterm support in their learning are provided with the remedial sessions. Pearl School is always a mile ahead in preparing the students for further improvement in a holistic manner.

On a positive note, we started remedial sessions from class 3 onwards, so that the students would not lag behind in their studies and counteract difficulties beforehand. We have organized the remedial sessions or doubt clearing sessions with a focus on the concept clarity. In order to facilitate remedial sessions for students, teachers have identified the pupils' diverse learning requirements so that they could design appropriate teaching plans to facilitate pupils' effective learning. Their learning is measured through worksheets and concept test regularly. Since the remedial sessions are conducted for small group of students, teachers can focus individually and motivates the students to open up themselves to attain academic, human and environmental excellence.

SUMMER VACATION (WEST BAY CAMPUS) As educators, students, parents and professionals, we’re experiencing huge change and uncertainty at the moment. However, the importance of education remains consistent. We don’t know what the future holds or how long this pandemic lasts.

But, we can try to shape each day to be positive, creative, exciting and rewarding.

The Summer Break is scheduled from 18 June 2021 – 24 August 2021. Let’s not forget that this year vacations are not meant to explore the world outside but present an opportunity to rediscover ourselves while staying home and being safe.

Summer Vacation has always been considered to be the most desirable period looked forward by children when they can go beyond academics but let’s not make it a challenging situation clouded with the gloominess of Corona Pandemic. So, embark on a journey of fun and adventure by reading books, exercising, meditating, dancing and channelizing your energy in a positive manner. In addition, maintain the momentum and rigour that has been built in the learning through the last few weeks. Plan out and complete the holiday homework. In addition, revise the syllabus already completed and check the school portal for Date sheet and Syllabus and make earnest and sincere preparation for the same. So during this unique break when you are homebound, be a source of support and help to your parents, be positive, focused, self- disciplined and do live life with enthusiasm and zeal.
