! s d n e i r F o l l e H The leaves have begun to fall and the chill in the air has come right on cue. For some, it’s a season of harvest - a celebration of what they have planted - that they can now enjoy. For others, it's a time of transition that will usher in our season of gratitude: Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas. As many are enjoying the crisp air and the beauty of the seasons changing, we continue to stay focused on your needs. The Chamber has been working diligently to promote and support our business community ~ as it is especially vital that our members have a successful fourth quarter. We're dedicated to helping your business not only survive - but thrive. In addition to our regular programming and events that drive business to our local economy, the Chamber has stepped up to meet the unique challenges our member businesses are facing. We have been and will continue to: --amplify your voice in communicating needs and challenges to local and state government administrations and partner with them to help access business resources. --increase our member marketing efforts in order to boost visibility and encourage local spending. We need you to step up to work with us to showcase your business. --provide regular communications via email and social media to let you know the status of all things that impact your bottom line. --offer quality information exchanges during regularly scheduled meetings and event to keep you up- to-date. We know you're busy. Probably working harder with less staff. So let the Chamber help. Take advantage of all the "homework" we do for you and allow yourself to think big. So don't be a stranger. We continue to serve our Members and the visiting public 7 days a week. Sincerely, Tammy Fejerang Faelnar 2023-2024 Chair of the Board AA Meats

"The strength of the Chamber lies in its Membership . . ." Shawn Mattingly, Weinand & Associates, CPA’s Membership in the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce is one of the best investments a business can make. Not only does the Lakewood Chamber provide members with excellent events to attend, the Chamber is there to help business owners stay informed about what is happening in the Community and in our Local and State Governments. I am proud to be a Member of the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce!

Tammy Steele Senior Sales Director, Mary Kay

The Lakewood Chamber of Commerce is the “go to” organization to expand your business reach. I have been a member for many many years. It helped me learn how to better brand myself, be a better public speaker and learn about all the political issues that effect small business in our city and State. The Chamber works tirelessly behind the scenes in good economic times and bad to make sure the business community is taken care of. It gives you so many opportunities to meet potential clients and build relationships with local business leaders. My business has benefited greatly in numerous ways over the years being a part of this Chamber. The staff is very passionate about what they do, trust me you want them in your business corner!!!!

Some of our Member businesses choose to invest in the Chamber above their annual dues commitment. This additional financial investment helps boost our ability to truly serve the needs and interests of our business community, allowing staff to focus on the development and creation of a dynamic business organization that will be a true voice for the job providers in the Lakewood area. In turn, we provide you with consistent brand exposure to our business community and residents. Interested? We'd love to talk!

Local casinos not only have card games of chance, but offer great food and live entertainment on weekends. And when it comes to recreation, you need look no further than our parks and lakes. That’s right. Lakewood boasts some of the best recreation in the region.

The Lakewood Chamber of Commerce is bringing back the tradition of decorating the city in blue lights for the holiday season! When the Lakewood Colonial Center was built by Norton Clapp in 1937, it was a pretty big deal. It was the first suburban “mall” west of the Mississippi. It’s rumored that Clapp’s first wife Mary Cordelia Davis’s favorite color was blue. Hence, the decorating of the Colonial Center with blue lights during the Christmas season began. Mrs. Clapp inspired owners of nearby shopping centers and along Gravelly Lake Drive to follow the color scheme, and in the late 1930’s through the 1970's, blue bulbs symbolized the holiday spirit of community businesses. If you have a business in the city limits of Lakewood, you qualify to receive FREE C-9 LED blue light strings long as supplies last. Call or email us to sign up to get your lights today!

Drive Tour Itinerary AUTUMN A TAPESTRY UNVEILED Leaves are falling and temps are dropping, and we think this is one of the best times to visit and experience the changing of the seasons. Enjoy wildlife, history, local food, outdoor activities and scenic wonders during this season spanning September through November!

Highlights: Northwest Trek Wildlife Park Mt Rainier Scenic Railroad Ex Nihilio Sculpture Park Mt Rainier National Park LeMay Collections at Marymount Thornewood Castle Glow Golf at Meadow Park Lakewood Playhouse Fort Steilacoom Park Lakewood Shooting Range International District

A palette of bronze sweeps the hillsides. Male elk, bison and bighorn sheep vie for dominance and select their mates, a whimsical sculpture park, hands-on farm museum with a tour through the seasons, historic mountain diner, Glow Golf in the Dark, state-of-the-art shooting range and scenic wonders all around. Just a few of the amazing activities, food and experiences waiting for you in Lakewood and surrounding area this autumn!

Day One Start your morning in Lakewood, WA, and enjoy a big, hearty breakfast at Carr’s Restaurant. On your way to Mount Rainier National Park, a “must visit” is Northwest Trek Wildlife Park. At Trek, fall is a magical time. Dust rises from bison, rolling and sparring. And through the forest comes an eerie, haunting whistle – the sound of elk bugling. The rut – mating season – runs September-October. Out in the Free Roaming Area, male elk, bison and bighorn sheep vie for dominance and select their mates. The perfect way to experience this magic up close? An Elk Bugling Tour. This year, they get you off-road and up to the action in the keeper Jeep, with just eight seats per tour. And with only eight tour dates, you don’t want to wait. These fill up fast.

Next, take a step back in time and ride on a vintage train, pulled by a steam locomotive through the breathtakingly beautiful Pacific Northwest landscape. Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad offers stunning views of mountains, farmland, and surrounding forests, this is a journey that you won’t forget. And for the ultimate whiskey lover’s experience – Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad’s Whiskey Tasting Trains! Travel from Elbe to our museum in Mineral where you’ll be welcomed by live music. Immerse yourself in rhythmic tunes and enjoy the trip highlight – samples of three curated whiskeys from local distilleries, each with a distinct character and story. To accompany these delightful spirits, indulge in an assortment of delectable cheese, crackers and other snacks, selected to complement the experience. Specialty cocktails crafted with care are also available for purchase. Or reserve your spot on a RailCycle It’s like a go-cart that you pedal on the historic rail line. This gives you a chance to explore the scenic logging railroad and drink in those forest views. It departs from Eatonville and travels 3 miles through the forest to a scenic turnaround spot with a 35 minute layover at the historic museum.

Hungry? Head up to Ashford and visit historic Copper Creek Inn & Restaurant for a delicious lunch or early dinner. They’re open every day and serve local favorites like salmon, trout, steaks, freshly baked breads, and of course, Miss Jennie’s famous blackberry pie! And yes, there’s other great little restaurants to discover. After lunch, stop by the Ex-Nihilio Sculpture Park on your way back to town where artist Dan Klennert’s creations come to life. You’ll see dinosaurs, seahorses, giant spiders, a heavy metal band (made of iron) and much more. No admission fee, but feel free to donate a few dollars in either the Republican or Democratic donation urns. Dan’s quirky sense of humor is contagious - and if you’re lucky, you may even catch him crafting his next piece of artwork.

Add a little bit of body text

It’s a quick drive up to the entrance of Mount Rainier National Park. But you’ve got some options to overnight... The private luxury cabins at Stormking Cabins and Spa create the right romantic environment, with vaulted ceilings, personal hot tubs, and stone-tiled, two-person showers. Enjoy in the feeling of seclusion without sacrificing any of the amenities ~ just minutes from the Nisqually Entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. Or for the adventurous, how about Cannibal Hot Tub at Paradise Village Lodge & Restaurant? Immerse yourself into an iron cauldron filled with mountain-fresh water that's heated by a wood fire underneath. Downright primitive and luxurious! They provide carefully selected amenities in the lodge for your home away from home.

If you prefer to lodge at Mount Rainier National Park, just keep driving through the Nisqually entrance. There, you’ll find the National Park Inn at Longmire, open year round for overnight stays. Further up the road, you’ll find the aptly named Paradise Inn at the Paradise Recreation Area. Typically open for overnight stays May - October. Tucked away on the southern slopes of the active volcano we know as Mount Rainier, and sitting at an elevation of 5,400 it offers views of the summit, meadows, and the beauty of the national park all around.

Day Two Rise and Shine! Enjoy breakfast at the National Park Inn. Then head to Longmire Recreation Area and the Trail of the Shadows. Longmire, complete with a general store for provisions, as well as a full-service restaurant and the National Park Inn is a great hike. Nestled among the cedars and firs are several historic buildings from when Longmire was the headquarters of the park, but now it’s a beautiful recreation area, and serves as a trailhead for the Trail of the Shadows. An easy, scenic, 0.8-mile hike, the Trail of the Shadows is filled with historical markers, preserved ruins, wildlife-spotting viewpoints, and the remains of a defunct mineral spring that brought those in search of rejuvenation to the Mount Rainier area over a century ago. As you continue to make your way up the mountain, a great spot for a selfie is Narada Falls. Be sure to bring a waterproof jacket, your phone or camera, and something to wipe your camera lens. With a good gust of wind carrying the off-spray, odds are you’re going to enjoy some real mountain mist! Prepare yourself ... when you arrive at Paradise, expect to see endless fields of copper, red and orange explode across the hillsides that lay in the shadow of the summit at the Paradise area. The Skyline Trail is your easy-to-follow guide to some of the most incredible views the mountain has to offer.

Head back down to Lakewood, but make sure you make a stop at the LeMay Collections at Marymount. You can take a self-guided that includes access to their main museum at Marymount which was historically used for recreation when the school was in operation. A gear-head’s dream, take your time walking through the gallery rooms containing 80-100 cars. Exhibits are all around you, so be aware of the vast number of displays! Look for “automobilia” salt & pepper shakers, dolls, vintage gas pumps, and even hose nozzles!

Check into your choice of lodging. Lakewood offers a wide range of accommodations to suit your needs. Now, if you’re planning on a “Wow” experience, book ahead and stay at Thornewood Castle, “the house that love built,” an historic Tudor Gothic home with a history going back over 500 years is located on American Lake in Lakewood. The scenery at Thornewood can be seen in the films Stephen King's “Rose Red,” and Oscar Winner “There Will Be Blood.”

Dinner suggestions include: Bruno’s European Restaurant with German and Polish fare that will satisfy with their hearty, warm dishes. Save room for dessert! We also love The Adriatic at Oakbrook serving Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. They are thrilled to be selected as one of only two in the entire South Puget Sound by Wine Spectator with their 2023 Award of Excellence. No reason to head inside just because the streetlights are on. These early evenings are the perfect time to enjoy Glow Golf at Meadow Park Golf Course. Every Friday and Saturday evening from September 22 through December 30, the Williams Nine Course transforms into a multicolor canvas through the magic of LED-illuminated golf balls and flagsticks. Tee times start at sunset until 11 pm. Or catch a live performance at Lakewood Playhouse, the cultural heart of our community, that creates engaging and entertaining theatre celebrating the human experience. The Playhouse is celebrating their 85th season this year. The last two weekends of October, All Hallows' Eve 2023 Eerie Enchantments: Poe’s Garden of Shadows is an option for some spooky family fun and activities, with spooky storytelling and a candlelight concert at Lakewold Gardens .

Day Three Greet the New Day ... Like a Boss! For a full breakfast, check out a local favorite, Burs Restaurant. Lakewood‘s landmark diner, serves traditional comfort dishes & cocktails in an oldschool interior. Or for lighter fare, stop by the Original House of Donuts to grab a few treats and a cup of coffee to go. Serving the community since 1959, OHOD is your go-to for a fresh, warm donut to satisfy your inner child!

After breakfast, take a scenic, one-mile stroll around Waughop Lake, located at Fort Steilacoom Park. The fully paved trail offers lake viewpoints, tiny beach areas and lovely vegetation native to the Pacific Northwest. Fort Steilacoom Park’s 342 acres offers a diversity of habitats from open meadows to coniferous woodland. Excellent access for birding includes 146 species identified within the park’s boundaries.

You can visit Washington’s newest and most advanced indoor shooting range. At the Lakewood Shooting Range, trying out the latest and greatest, or just come shoot your all time favorite! With 16 lanes, each 25 yards long, and sporting state of the art touch screen controllers, you’ll have a blast honing your shooting skills in the comfort of an indoor location. Don’t have your own gun? Rentals are available for handguns like Glock and Smith & Wesson, or rifles like Ruger and Winchesters - there’s something for everyone here. You can register online - or when you get there.

Before heading home, enjoy a delicious meal in Lakewood’s International District. Day One Arrive in Lakewood, WA., and enjoy shopping at our local, small retailers, or the Lakewood Towne Center, our antique stores or visit the remarkable International District along South Tacoma Way. Choose from a wide mix of dinner options ~ whether you're in the mood for American, European, Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Indian or Korean fare, you'll love the variety our city has to offer! You can check out the Foodie Drive Tour Itinerary on the Chamber's website for dozens of suggestions on great eateries in and around Lakewood. After dark, you’ll notice Lakewood’s Nights of Lights — beautiful blue lights around the Lakewood business district. In the late 1930’s through the 70's, blue lights symbolized the holiday spirit of our community businesses. But in 2009, the lights took on new meaning, when four Lakewood police officers were gunned down at a Parkland coffee shop. Blue lights now blaze throughout the city in memory of the four officers who lost their lives, as well as a show of community nostalgia of our Christmases past. Check into your holiday lodging of choice — if you're looking for a unique place to call home for the evening, Airbnb offers bungalows and lakefront options. Or check into one of our many hotel properties (see back). Get ready for a fun evening out with lots of options for light displays that would make Clark Griswold proud! If you’re visiting on Saturday, December 9th — Lakewoods’ Holiday Parade of Lights is available for viewing from 4:30 - 5:30 pm at the Lakewood Towne Center. Visitors get to view holiday floats constructed by local businesses, clubs, and organizations. Tree lighting in front of city hall happens right after the parade. Santa photos, food trucks, and roaming entertainment starts at 4 p.m.

Also on the 9th, you can step back into time and eavesdrop at historic Fort Steilacoom, as living historians re-enact the Christmas of 1863, highlighting how the holiday season might have been celebrated in these buildings 160 years ago. Re-enactors will gather in candlelight to talk, sing, dance and dine as our predecessors did in these buildings nearly 160 years ago. Visitors from 2023 will walk past the scenes and witness them as if they are spirits from the future.

Add a little bit of body text

The Lakewood Playhouse, the cultural heart of our diverse community, creates engaging and entertaining theatre celebrating the human experience. December presents Conor McPherson’s play The Seafarer, a black comedy with magical realism elements. Set on Christmas Eve in a coastal town near Dublin, the play centers on James “Sharky” Harkin, a drunk who has returned to town and moved in with his blind, elderly brother Richard. The play follows Sharky’s attempts to stay sober during the Christmas season. If you don't already have enough to choose from, a final option is to visit ZooLIGHTS. Come enjoy Point Defiance Zoo, transformed into a colorful winter wonderland with over 800,000 lights. It's simply magical for young and old alike!
