Lake Toxaway Charities was established 50 years ago by a group of residents committed to charitable giving and supporting the needs of our neighbors in Transylvania County. Thanks to our founders and your steadfast support, LTC has granted over $5,000,000 to local non-profits to date.
We are deeply grateful for your participation in this year’s “Evening in Paris” annual sports day and gala. The event was a tremendous success, raising over $1,000,000. Please mark your calendars for next year’s 50th Anniversary Gala on July 19, 2025. Additionally, the 2024 Angel Tree Giving Program, co-sponsored by The Greystone Inn, will provide food, clothing, and gifts to over 200 families this holiday season. Your generosity continues to humble and inspire us.
In addition to financial gifts, our success relies on our incredible volunteers, allowing us to contract minimal paid staff and services at very little expense.
We hope you enjoy this review, which highlights the impact of your contributions, including an update on Hurricane Helene Disaster Relief (see page 5). It also outlines opportunities for giving, including stock donations, estate planning, and contributions to the Lake Toxaway Charities Community Giving Fund.
We deeply appreciate your support, which sustains our mission to assist neighbors in need. Thank you for fostering a culture of care and compassion.

Audit and Financials 2023 Financials
During 2024 Lake Toxaway Charities engaged the Asheville firm of Corliss & Solomon to perform an Independent Auditor’s Report and preparation of Financial Statements for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2023. The auditors have concluded that their analysis reflects an unmodified opinion, and that LTC has passed the audit with no modifications of a material nature to our accounting methods or financial position. For members of our community these results underline and emphasize the careful stewardship of your donations.
The financial report on this page reflects calendar year 2023 activity, which has been verified through the audit process, but does not include the fee for the audit engagement, which will be incurred in 2024. Once again, our operating expenses were extremely low due solely to the fact that we engage minimal administrative services.
Needs and budget requirements for 2025 will increase as we continue to outsource administrative services, and evaluate additional requests for grant distributions. We expect future requests to continue to increase due to economic conditions as well as the aftermath of this year’s disaster.
As always, we are grateful for your support and trust in our use of your gifts.
What We Do
Grant Assessments
At the heart of Lake Toxaway Charities is the enormous generosity of spirit of our community members who pledge their resources to make a positive difference in the lives of our neighbors who are most in need. A volunteer Grant Assessment Committee donates countless hours of their time to determine grant funding to local agencies through a rigorous assessment process. Each member of the Grant Assessment Committee serves as a liaison to four to six agencies. They stay in contact with their agencies via personal visits, emails, and/ or phone calls. Annually, interested agencies apply for grant funding anew, there is no automatic funding/guarantee for continued funding. Each agency request stands on its own merit, and we say “no” if a new or previous agency does not meet our mission’s criteria.
Grant Recipients
We currently support 50 agencies for the hungry, the homeless, those in need of healthcare, the abused, and to education systems and programs. For those agencies which are awarded grants, funds are distributed in June. For the most up-todate information on our supported agencies and how to get involved, please visit our website at laketoxawaycharities.org or scan the QR Code. Hurricane Helene
Over the past few years, Lake Toxaway Charities (LTC) has demonstrated its steadfast commitment to supporting those in need across Transylvania County. In 2020, with your help, we responded to the challenges of COVID-19. In 2021, we extended our support to Rosman in the wake of devastating flooding. Now, in 2024, we are once again responding to a community in crisis, addressing the profound impact of Hurricane Helene—thanks, once more, to your invaluable support.
In the immediate aftermath of Helene, we prioritized urgent needs, directing assistance toward food, water, essential family resources, and mental health services. Within two weeks of power being restored to most—though not all—of Lake Toxaway, LTC mobilized approximately $140,000, distributed to twenty local 501(c)(3) agencies focused on critical aid across Transylvania County. Our Grant Committee, which played an essential “boots on the ground” role after the hurricane, continues to work closely with these agencies to assess evolving needs. As our understanding deepens, we anticipate adjusting our targets for assistance and committing further funds to address emerging priorities.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the 136 households who have exemplified remarkable generosity in support of this disaster relief. As we work together to meet the needs of our community, LTC remains dedicated to being a thoughtful conduit for your kindness, with our Grant Committee exercising diligence to ensure every contribution has a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need.
*Because of the timing and production of this publication, your donations received for Disaster Relief (after October 1) are not incorporated in our recognitions on pages 6-7, but will most certainly be recognized in subsequent reporting.
On behalf of the thousands of people Sharing House has and will serve in the coming days, I want to express our deepest gratitude for your generous gift given in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. Your kindness is a lifeline to so many in Transylvania County who are facing unimaginable hardships in the wake of this historic flood.
Rev. Shelly F. Webb Executive Director Sharing House

What is the purpose of the endowment and how is it funded?
The endowment, named the Community Giving Fund, was established for the express purpose of growing funds so that across time Lake Toxaway Charities may become selfsustaining. It may not always be possible to capture as many volunteer hours of our Lake Toxaway Estate residents. It is the hope that if a paid director or other paid assistance becomes necessary, funding for those salaries can be provided by the earnings of the endowment.
The endowment has been started by extraordinary gifts and pledges by a few residents of Lake Toxaway Estates. As time goes by, it is recognized that future funding drives may be necessary. In addition to direct gifts to the endowment, 15% of all gifts to Lake Toxaway Charities are transferred to the Community Giving Fund each year.

Stacey and Jim Hamilton are Planning Ahead
The Hamiltons have decided to leave a substantial gift to Lake Toxaway Charities in their will. Asked for their rationale they said the following. “We appreciate the efficiency of LTC and how careful the charity is with expenses. We do not have children and we see the agencies who receive the grants from LTC as having tremendous needs to make a difference in the poor communities in Transylvania County. Since there are limited means for funds, we feel we can help. We hope that by allowing LTC to share what we are doing with our estate planning, others in Lake Toxaway Estates will decide to do the same when the time comes for their funds to be distributed after death.”
