Employer information How will I benefit?

An apprenticeship is a framework of qualifications designed for the employed who are looking to underpin their practical skills with academic knowledge. The apprenticeship is in three parts; a competency based qualification, which requires the student gathers evidence in the workplace to demonstrate their practical ability; a technical certificate which is a knowledge based qualification and functional skills of which Maths and English are mandatory for all apprenticeships. The technical certificate and functional skills are delivered on a day release programme in college for most courses.

Spotlight on: Apprenticeship initiative in copeland In spite of significant progress being made in joblessness/ related initiatives, the borough of Copeland still has high levels of young people not in employment, education or training (NEET) and low levels of skills and enterprise within the community. This proposal aims to tackle these issues by creating an innovative programme of apprenticeship training opportunities, which will engage local employers, some of whom will have little or no previous history of engagement in this type of training.

Lakes College worked with Copeland Council: 1. To create at least 45 new apprenticeships with locally based employers over a 3 year period and to recruit workless or NEET learners to these new opportunities. 2. To provide the apprentices appropriate training programmes based at Lakes College leading to nationally recognised framework qualifications.

Student information How will I benefit? Apprenticeships are increasingly recognised as the gold standard for work-based training. There are over 85,000 employers offering Apprenticeships in more than 130,000 locations; there are almost 200 frameworks suitable for hundreds of job roles.
