CLUB UPDATE

BRIAN PIZZIMENTI

brian.pizzimenti@lakenona.com

407.209.1221

Dear Members,

There is quite a bit of Club enhancement news to share this month. I'd be remiss to not begin by highlighting one of the most highly anticipated announcements in recent Club history - the all-encompassing expansion and renovation of the Clubhouse and Bath & Racquet Club! CLICK HERE to view complete announcement. This multi-year, phased project will transform the Club into a state-ofthe-art destination and is part of leadership and ownership's constant commitment to provide exceptional experiences, amenities and facilities for our members' continued enjoyment. We are excited to share details of the project with you at the Club Expansion & Renovation Presentation on August 29 and encourage you to join us to learn more. For those who may be unable to attend in-person, we plan on following up the presentation by sending a recap of the presentation to the membership. We are incredibly excited about this new chapter for Lake Nona Golf & Country Club and are grateful for your continued support as we embark on the endeavor together.

In other Club news, the hard tennis court and the four pickleball courts have unfortunately endured deteriorating conditions and will, therefore, be renovated starting in mid-September. This eight-week project is anticipated to be completed by mid-November. During this renovation, temporary pickleball courts will be established on the helicopter pad for our Members' continued use and enjoyment.

July continued to provide a variety of seasonally-inspired programming at the Club, including: three different summer camps - Nona Crew, Junior Tennis and Pickleball Camp, and Junior Golf Camphosting fun activities and learning experiences to engage our juniors, while our festive, Star-Spangled Splash Fourth of July celebration and featured dining nights of our Summer Cuisine Series have been well received. This month, I encourage you to join us for the following upcoming events:

• Global Series: Chinese Favorites (Aug. 6)

• Summer Cuisine: Lakeside Lobster Fest (Aug. 10)

• Back-To-School Luau Splash (Aug. 11)

• Ladies' Team Boot Camp (Aug. 13 & 14)

• NEW! Family Bingo Night (Aug. 15)

• Ground Force & 3D Golf School (Aug. 16-18)

• College Football Kickoff Family Tailgate (Aug. 23)

• Global Series: Flavors of India (Aug. 28)

In golf news, August 26 - 29 marks our third and final aerification closure, which is much shorter and the least aggressive aerification, enabling us to re-open the golf course for weekend play. The driving range will remain open during the aerification with modified hours (8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.) . Thank you for your understanding and patience during the closure, and I encourage you to please reach out to the Professional Shop for assistance in scheduling tee times at local, private courses we have partnered with for reciprocal playing privileges. Additionally, the addition of Toptracer Range is being finalized and we are excited to launch this #1 range technology to our driving range this month! Please see p. 20 & 21 for complete details.

Lastly, I want to recognize and thank our Youth Activities Manager Noah Berumen and his team of Nona Crew camp counselors for their collective efforts entertaining our campers for six weeks of memorable summer fun and adventures. Be on the lookout for exciting Nona Crew programming, along with family favorites to enjoy this fall.

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you and your families enjoying all aspects of Club life this summer.

Sincerely,

MEMBERSHIP

August brings an exciting new addition to Lake Nona Golf & Country Club, as we launch the Toptracer Range this month for our Members' enjoyment. At the time of this article, the final touches are being implemented and more information will be sent once it goes live with reminders on how to download the app and activate Toptracer on your personal mobile device. See complete details on p. 20 & 21. The golf operations team will be on hand to help you familiarize yourself with this new system and will also have a few iPads available for you to use while out on the range. I look forward to seeing you out there!

This month, we will continue to offer several coaching opportunities for you to explore the game of golf and enhance your game. Daniel Gray at The Workshop is hosting a three-day, techfocused golf school, while Martin McTernan and Kendra Swanson will continue hosting the Ladies' Complimentary Clinics - a summer instructional series to designed help sharpen your game, and introduce new golfers to the game.

Our summer course maintenance programs continue to be executed flawlessly by Nick Dolimpio and team. Come fall, I'm certain we will appreciate their hard work through these hot summer days when we enjoy perfect playing surfaces once again. As a reminder, during annual course closures, our reciprocal arrangements with local, private clubs provide a wonderful opportunity to continue golfing at a preferred guest rate. Please contact the Professional Shop to make your arrangements.

On Tour, Tyrrell Hatton had another podium finish, with third place at LIV Andalucia. On the LET, Kim Metraux narrowly missed out on her first LET win, after finishing second at the Dutch Ladies Open. Early this month, Summer Olympic golf takes center stage and we wish all our Lake Nona Olympians: Ben An (KOR) and Kiradech Aphibarnrat (THA) and Lydia Ko (NZL), Leona Maguire (IRL), Morgane Metraux (SUI), and Ana Belac (SLO), the best of luck on their quest for gold!

HOW-TO-PLAY: HOLE 10

NARRATED BY BRAD DAUGHERTY

Five-Time NBA All-Star and Lake Nona Member

Possibly the toughest hole on the course. A dog leg that requires a long, accurate drive to leave an easier approach. Anything off line makes this a hard green to hit in regulation. The green is well protected with a false front, trees and a deep bunker; par will be a tough score.

WATCH VIDEO >

COURSE NEWS

As we are now past the halfway point of summer, we are delighted with the condition of the golf course. July’s aerification went smoothly and we are working to encourage the greens to fill in as quickly as possible, given the limited time before this month's aerification closure. As in previous years, the August closure will be less aggressive due to the lack of afternoon sun and the consistent afternoon storms we typically experience during this period.

In other course maintenance news, our summer landscape enhancements have mainly focused on repopulating native grasses in established grass beds and creating new beds in areas that are out of play, where turf struggles due to lack of sun. We had to postpone the installation of stairs into the 12th fairway bunker until August, as time ran short during July’s scheduled aerification. Additionally, we are working on in-house tree maintenance to lift the tree canopy around the exterior of the golf course where overhanging limbs are damaging the turf beneath.

Last fall, we installed a new oxygenation system for our irrigation water, which has been a game changer for us. Previously, our irrigation water had a dissolved oxygen (DO) content of around 3-4 ppm, just above the threshold for maintaining aerobic life. Essentially, we were irrigating with "dead" water that harmed the beneficial microbes in the soil. Now, our DO levels are in the 15-25 ppm range, about three times higher than rainwater. This increased oxygen content allows aerobic microbes in the soil to flourish, breaking down organic matter and nutrients into plant-available forms. This process helps create firmer and faster conditions, reducing soft and wet areas. During the summer, this means fewer cart path-only days, and in season, we should see firmer and faster playing surfaces with fewer fertilizer and chemical inputs required.

We have also noticed an improvement in the number of carts following the wooden entry and exit posts. These posts help us scatter cart traffic while maintaining a cleaner appearance on the golf course. A huge thank you to everyone who has been diligent in following these directional posts, which protects and preserves Lake Nona's surpurb course conditions. NICHOLAS

I want to thank all of the tennis and pickleball enthusiasts who made this summer fun and active on the courts with great participation in our clinics, lessons, junior camps, and court play. We look forward to continuing to work with all of you as you strengthen their skills throughout the fall at our weekly clinics, monthly socials, and league play.

This month, we are delighted to resume our junior weekday and Quickstart clinics the week of August 17, and welcome the return of our monthly socials with a fun, 3-on-3 event on August 31. In league news, we are pleased to announce that our Lake Nona Ladies C Team has moved up to the C-Plus Division, which gets underway at the end of August. The Gold Team will also be starting in late August or early September (TBA). I encourage you to mark your calendar to join me in supporting these dedicated players' home matches as they put their skills to the test representing Lake Nona against local area clubs. In preparation for the upcoming league season, our team tennis players are encouraged to sharpen your matchplay skills by joining us on the courts for a two-day Team Tennis Boot Camp on August 13 & 14, followed by a practice match against Isleworth on August 15!

Speaking of league play, I am excited to share that Lake Nona is forming our first-ever pickleball league team that will play against other area clubs and we are looking for players and captains! We encourage pickleball players (level 3.0 – 4.0) to join us for fun and competitive league play as you represent Team Nona! If interested, please contact Kelvin at krivera@lakenona.com.
