CLUB UPDATE Dear Members, April provided another great month of well-attended, Member programming. The return of Lake Nona’s annual Easter Brunch was an “egg-stravagant” success with 350 attendees who warmly welcomed the springtime holiday celebration. Our Sunday Splash Kickoff saw an exceptional turnout and received rave reviews, while our Dive-In Movie Family Night was equally as impressive. Food and beverage programming was highlighted by a fully committed Cakebread Cellars Wine Dinner, our monthly Sunday Brunch and Global Dining, which took our flavor passports to Greece. Thank you to all of our families for celebrating with us and enjoying the social vibrancy of the Club! The course was buzzing last month with three tournaments held on back-to-back weekends! First, the return of the Parent-Child Championship on Easter weekend welcomed new champions – Joel

Russell II and Joel Russell. Coming off of one win, Joel Russell II captured a second straight victory

alongside Matt Stanchina at the Men’s Member-Member. The Masters-themed competition was filled with great golf, amazing food, and undeniable camaraderie. Lastly, the Men’s Match Play Championship crowned Charlie Bull as the Men’s Champion and Chip Peterson as the Senior Champion. These tournaments conclude our 2020-21 tournament season and we look forward to

kicking off the 2021-22 season at the Autumn Classic in November. I would like to take a moment to recognize the efforts of our entire culinary staff since Executive Chef Jason Dixon’s departure last month. The team has continued to execute all events and daily operations without skipping a beat. While it has definitely been a collaborative endeavor, I feel I would be remiss not to highlight the extraordinary efforts of Executive Sous Chef Jason Gonsalves. “Chef G” has embraced the additional responsibilities as the interim leader with great poise and dedication during the process of seeking a new Executive Chef. That said, I am extremely pleased to announce that after an extensive search, we have selected Joseph Sledz as our next Executive Chef, who will be joining the team in late May. Following a long tenure as the Chef de Cuisine at the Greenbrier in West Virginia, Chef Joseph most recently served as the Executive Sous Chef at the Country Club of Buffalo where he managed multiple dining outlets. We are incredibly confident in Chef Joseph’s ability to continually elevate the dining experience at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club while providing great leadership and stability for our entire culinary team. A formal, welcome announcement will follow in future correspondence once Chef Joseph has arrived. Historically, with the exception of summer camps, the Club has tended to ease programming throughout the summer months, however, this will not be the case this year. Following this winter and spring's social momentum, we intend to continuously fill the calendar with safe and engaging programming for Members and guests to enjoy year-round. Be sure to mark your calendar for these upcoming events:

• Mother's Day Brunch (May 9)

• An Evening in Provence (May 13)

• Tempos Vega Sicilia Wine Dinner (May 27) • Memorial Day Pool Party (May 31)

In closing, I continue to receive great feedback from Members, which has been exceptionally constructive and is always welcomed. I plan on hosting a follow-up in June to my Breakfast with the GM series. This will be an excellent forum to share where we have made great strides with respect to the overall experience and where we can continue to focus our efforts. Thank you again for your continual support and I look forward to seeing everyone enjoying the Club! Sincerely,

4

GOLF NEWS April proved to be a tremendous month for golf tournaments both here at Lake Nona as well as on the professional tours. Congratulations to several of our newest Club tournament champions: ParentChild Champions, Joel Russell & Joel Russell II; Men’s Member-Member Champions, Matt Stanchina

In operations news, after nine years at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club, we would like to bid a fond farewell to our Master Club Fitter Jason Bodey, as he has decided to advance his career and accepted an opportunity with club fitting company, Five Iron Golf. He will be greatly missed and we thank him for his years of dedicated service to our Members and golf operations, and fully support him in his future endeavors. COURSE NEWS As the saying “April showers bring May flowers” goes, we are looking forward to excellent playing conditions in May following several April rain events that aided our spring transition back to Bermudagrass. Historically, this transition process has not been a favorable one with the rough always lagging behind. This year, we are optimistic about the reduction of time and energy required for this process. Last summer’s irrigation renovation has enabled us to water everywhere we need it, allowing the Bermudagrass to “wake up” more consistently throughout the property. While we will inevitably still have some thin/worn areas following the winter season and a few shady areas that will require its yearly sod allotment, we are confident this will be the best spring transition to date. May also marks the return of our cultural practice season with our first aerification closure the week of May 17 - 24. Over the years, I have learned that we need to be our most aggressive during this closure as the favorable weather usually creates the quickest ability to recover the course during the summer, while the last two closures are usually coupled with undesirable weather patterns. This year, we are bringing in contractors to assist us with our fairway maintenance efforts which will consist of aggressively verticutting and topdressing followed by a solid-tine aerification, meaning we will not be removing material out of ground so the holes naturally fill back up quickly. We believe

BRANDON RICHEY

that this process with help tremendously with the fairways’ playability, increasing the firm and fast surface we all desire to get a few more yards of roll out of our drives. The remainder of our surfaces

b ri ch ey@la ke n o n a .com

(greens, tees, and approaches) will also receive the same process. We also plan to treat the rough,

407. 209.12 81

but are awaiting to see the weather pattern and its growth habits before determining the process. Additionally, we will complete a few projects during the closure as well, with the installation of new drainage on the south tee being a high priority. As the range tee ages, we are learning that the right side holds too much water, so we intend to drain it off to keep the turf in healthier condition, as well as creating more ability to use the entire tee surface for range setup. As always, we thank you for all you do to help us manage our world-class golf course and facilities. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please let us know. We look forward to seeing you on the course.

REAL ESTATE As our team reflects on the first quarter of 2021, the important conversations we’ve had about Lake Nona’s real estate market come to mind. For buyers and sellers alike, many needed expert advice on whether to remain in the market, halt their search, suspend their plans or take action. Each case was unique, but by providing the facts and relying on our experience and how previous economic shifts have affected our market, we’ve been proud to serve these folks and help them make informed decisions about their futures. On the back of a historical sales year in Lake Nona Golf & Country Club and a record-breaking start to 2021 with the highest single-quarter sales volume in more than 10 years, we find ourselves in yet another shift. With only 15 active available properties currently in the community – including 8 resale homes – our current real estate inventory is low while buyer demand remains at an all-time high. As you may already know, we specialize in selling homes within the gates and exclusively serve the real estate needs of Lake Nona Golf & Country Club. Serving buyers and sellers is our passion, and we see firsthand how buying and selling a residential property can help achieve a

long-term goal, enhance a lifestyle, or simply offer a fresh start. If you’ve ever considered selling your home, or if you would like more information about our current collection of properties, please don’t hesitate to contact us at realty@lakenona.com or call 407.851.9091.
