Phase Two of the Horizon Plan Phase Two of the Horizon Plan is the expansion of the Logan Steele Community Center. The Membership’s overwhelming satisfaction and support of the Community Center is undeniable. Members using the facility have identified areas that need some additional attention to meet the needs of our growing community. The plans include larger locker rooms, expansion of the Fitness Center and aerobics area, additional zero entry pool area for the young Members with some spray park features and a large pavilion for the Club’s camp programs. Management has been putting in many hours working with the engineers and architects to bring this plan to life. The Management Team, Boards and Committees want to make sure to accomplish all the enhancements as identified in the areas listed and remain within the budget that was outlined in the Horizon Plan. This detailed process has taken longer than expected. Management will continue working with the engineers, architects and business committees over the next several weeks in hopes to have a full comprehensive report for the Membership at the Club’s Annual Meeting on August 8th. If you have any questions regarding Phase Two and the Community Center please contact General Manager Robert Jones or Operations Manager Tim Brooks at the Administrative Office.

Tennis Season Kickoff 2015 T Sunday, May 24th was a special day for the Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Tennis Community. Well over one hundred m Members gathered on this beautiful afternoon to honor the M life of our long-time Tennis Professional, Bobby McKee, who li passed away in January. Numerous speakers including past pa and current Committee Chairpersons C.B. Wisniewski, Sara an Clarkson Clarkson, Jeanne C Christian and JJerry Merola paid tribute to Bobby with heartfelt words that shared how important his contributions were to the Club and how much he was loved and respected. Special guests Richard and Janet McKee also spoke and brought laughs and tears from the gathering while relating anecdotes from Bobby’s life. General Manager Robert Jones added his comments of remembrance and thanks and unveiled the new signs which dedicate our two teaching courts to Bobby. The rest of the afternoon was spent as Bobby would have wished: on court! All twelve courts were filled with Members enjoying a social round robin and the teaching courts saw more than thirty Members getting in the swing with Family Cardio. The Lake Naomi Clubhouse provided a delicious spread of snacks and drinks on deck for all. Thank you to everyone who made this a day to remember!

Here We Go: by Richard McKee If Memorial Day weekend participation is any indication of what this summer might be, then the Lake Naomi Tennis Center will be a very busy place. Forty-eight of you decided to exchange serves and volleys during our round robin play and close to thirty people ran around cones and lightly stepped through sport ladders while participating in Family Cardio. The weather was beautiful, the food was great, and my brother Bobby was the recipient of a very emotional tribute. Janet and I once again would like to say “Thank you” to all who attended Bobby’s event over the Memorial Day weekend. My brother will be sorely missed. Summer will be here soon, so please begin registering for junior and adult lessons and clinics. Contact the Professional Staff at 570-643-5489. These races take place after the series races on Saturday at roughly 2:30 PM. To participate simply identify yourself and your intention to sail with the Tiki Crew or the Sailing Office. The Sailing Program has boats available for use in the races, by contacting the Sailing Office in advance. Safety is our priority, therefore it is the policy of the Lake N Naomi Club to temporarily restrict or close outdoor recreational aareas and the LSCC Indoor Aquatic Areas during storm condditions. The standard followed is to keep areas cleared for a minimum of fifteen minutes after thunder is last heard and thirty m minutes after lightning is last spotted. Please respect the facility m ssupervisors who are looking out for your best interest. They will ask you to clear the tennis courts, golf course, pool decks, w bbeaches and Duster Bar for your safety. Lightening has struck tthe LN-TT facilities in the past and all precautions are taken to aavoid life threatening conditions.

Lake Naomi Sailor to Trans-Pac Sailor In 1972 David MacEwen, whose family has had a home at Lake Naomi since 1968, took sailing lessons on a Sunfish at Lake Naomi. He won the Pine Tree Trophy and started a love affair with sailing. He has crewed on the Newport to Bermuda races 8 years, competed in Chesapeake Bay racing and then moved to California. He is a member of the St. Francis Yacht Club and participates in long distance racing along the California coast in his Santa Cruz 52. This year, with his crew of 8 to 10 men, he has won 2 of 3 qualifying races for the July 2015 race from Point Fermin, Los Angeles to Diamond Head, Hawaii. Presently the boat is in Los Angeles being readied for the Trans-Pac which covers 2225 miles and includes 8 to 10 days at sea. In 2013, as the captain-owner of the Lucky Duck, David was asked to tell the other participants of the race at a dinner in one of the Hawaiian yacht clubs how he got interested in the race and he told them about learning to sail at Lake Naomi in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania and receiving a subscription to Sailing Magazine for Christmas. On the back cover was a notice about sailing the Trans-Pac race and at age 11 it became one of the goals of his life. He is very grateful to the Lake Naomi Sailing Association for giving a young boy a goal to work toward and a dream to fulfill.

Members can bring dinner to the beach that evening, which is not a regular Club policy. Although the picnicking on the beach policy will be relaxed for this event, the NO GLASS policy will not.

Golf Course Evacuation As we all know, summer storms can blow up on us in a hurry when we are on the golf course. To help keep everyone safe and dry the golf pro shop will sound an air horn to advise golfers of inclement weather. The staff will blow three long blasts with the air horn as an advisory to leave the course due to incoming bad weather. This includes rain, thunder, lightning and high winds. On Tee Box #6 is a Lightning-Rain Shelter for your safety if you get caught in a storm.

Fireworks Due to the tremendous danger involved, any and all types of fireworks have been banned from the Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Community. Please be aware that the possession of most fireworks in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is illegal and violators are subject to stiff penalties. It is also a violation of the PPCA and TTCA Code of Conduct. There are normally several large approved firework displays in the Pocono Region each year and we’ll give you details and locations in the weekly flyers.

Open Water Swimming Weekly open swimming is planned for Saturdays at Club Beach this summer on: June 27, July 11, 18, 25, August 1 and 15. Seasoned swimmers, multi-sport enthusiasts or those training for triathlons are invited to “open-water swim”. There is a $2 fee per swimmer for the additional safety boat that will be dedicated just to these swimmers. A course will be marked with buoys to help swimmers navigate as well as making other boaters aware of your intended path. Swimmers must wear a brightly colored swim cap for the purpose of keeping themselves visible to boaters. Swim caps will be available for purchase in the Sailing Office.

Paddle Board Safety As a newer LNC sport, Standup Paddle Boarding, continues to grow in popularity here on our Lakes; it’s time to point out some important reminders. Paddleboards are treated like boats in Pennsylvania and all the same rules apply including enforcement by the Fish and Game Commission as well as LNC Safety Boat Operators and Lifeguards. - Paddleboards must be registered by the Club and be stickered as such. Paddleboards must be kept neatly on racks and not tied to trees or intrude on other Member rack spaces. - Children under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult and MUST WEAR a US Coastguard approved PFD (personal flotation device) with a whistle attached that can be heard for at least ½ mile. - All boaters must wear their PFD when the yellow rectangular flag is flown by the Club Beach flag pole indicating PFD required at this time. - DO NOT DIVE AND JUMP FROM ANY WATERCRAFT. These are very shallow lakes with many hidden rocks and stumps which can cause serious injury. - Swimming from watercraft is discouraged. All swimmers outside swim areas MUST be closely accompanied by an attending boat. Swimmers are hard to see by boaters and often can’t be seen by sailors which can cause accidents and injury if too far from their watercraft. - Boating in storm weather is extremely dangerous. Bring your watercraft to shore at first signs of storms… do not wait to hear thunder. Thank you for your concern for keeping the boating Membership safe and your compliance with these simple to follow rules of the water.

Lake Naomi Club Q & A Why are Golf Maintenance and the Club Contractors permitted to mow grass before and after the “contractor hours” set by the Club and the Associations? The Club amenities are not subject to the residential deed restrictions and thus the architectural regulations. It is a case of something that benefits Club Members in mass versus a project that benefits a single Club/ Community Member. Thus the Club is not subject to the contractor hour limitations. Otherwise the Club would not be able to service the various facilities and have the facilities ready for Member use. What are the pontoon boats I have seen on Lake Naomi? The Club owns two pontoon boats. One is moored off of Club Beach and utilized by the Sailing Committee to organize and direct the sailing races. This pontoon boat is also utilized by Club Team Members to assist with the sailing instruction program. The second Club owned pontoon boat is stored at the Floating Marina located at the Administrative Office and is powered by an electric motor. It is utilized by the Lakes Committee for their fishing instructional program as well as for the placement of fish habitat in the Lake. I have seen motor boats on Lake Naomi. I thought they weren’t permitted? The Club owns four Boston Whaler Patrol Boats. At the height of the boating season, a maximum of three of the Safety Boats are in use. These are the only gasoline powered motor boats permitted on Lake Naomi. I am a Basic Member. Why can’t I use the Community Center Pool in July and August? The reasoning for the pool “blackout period” being announced right from the start of the discussion regarding the proposed Community Center was bbased on fairness and financial viabbility. While Basic Members pay the Capital Assessment for the Communnity Center which provides the right for them to utilize the Community Center for all of the year and the indoor pool at the Community Center for all but the 73 days prior to Labor Day, Basic Members are not paying the operating costs of the Communnity Center Pool during the blackout pperiod. Those costs are paid by only those Members subscribing to the ppool membership.
