On June 25, 2014 the Club announced that the Membership overwhelming supports Phase One of the Horizon Plan with an 84% positive vote. Since then Management has been very busy finalizing the action plan to start the construction of Phase One with the renovation of the Timber Trails Golf Center and the Timber Trails Clubhouse. To date Management continues working with the Contractors in preparation for the scheduled start after Labor Day. At this time the Contractors will begin construction on the Timber Trails Clubhouse. The expectation is to keep the Timber Trails Golf Pro Shop open and fully operating until mid-October. The Club will need to close the Pro Shop for one day while the barn section of the Golf Center is demolished. Management’s goal is to keep the golf course and driving range open until Columbus Day as always. Please note that sections of the Golf Center and the Timber Trails Clubhouse will be fenced off during the construction phase. It is important to remain outside the fenced area for your safety. Project Manager Scott Hall will be overseeing the contractors and sub-contractors on a daily basis. If you have any questions regarding the construction, please contact Operations Manager Tim Brooks at tbrooks@LakeNaomiClub.com or Project Manager Scott Hall at shall@LakeNaomiClub.com. We are all excited to see the detailed plans start to take shape. The Club will be providing updates with pictures through the eblasts and the LNC Facebook Page. These are very exciting times as the Club continues to prepare the amenities for the next 50 years.

Removal of the Gateway Building After careful deliberation and a recommendation from the Gateway Task Force, the Board of Governors and the Board of Trustees approved that the best fiduciary decision is to tear down the structure. Starting the first week of August, contractors will begin to remove the building and parking lot located on the Gateway property, formerly known as the Icehouse. As was specified in the initial vote to acquire this property, the Gateway Task Force completed an engineering study, environmental study and reviewed the local ordinances on this facility. The results have led to the conclusion that the building, due to rot, mold and structural flaws, is of no useful value to the Club. The cost of restoring the building is more than the value it would provide. The funds approved with the initial vote are adequate to cover the cost of the removal and landscaping of the grounds. The entire area will be seeded with grass and will provide an area for light recreational use. The Task Force is still working on some type of gateway signage for the Community and other possible uses for this green space. Everyone is in total agreement that this property is a cornerstone to the entrance of the Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Community and ownership concurs with the Strategic Plan of securing the Community’s borders. In the future, when the Membership identifies a viable use that fits with the financial plan, this property will be ready to carry out those plans. The Task Force thanks everyone for their suggestions and continued interest.

Good Neighbor Network and Programming LNC Seniors deserve to live their golden years comfortable and productive. The Members and the Management team at LNC recognizes the need for a network of neighbors who support our seniors in their time of need. Our Members request was to start a recreational activity program in which challenged folks could get out of the house, enjoy some activities, be with other people, and allow care-giver/spouse time to get away. The Community Center staff will organize gatherings on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:30 PM in the game room at LSCC beginning August 6, 2014. This room will be closed to children during this time. Activities may include but are not limited to board and card games, puzzles, movies, physical activities such as air hockey, pool, ping pong, cornhole, or jenga. Use of the fitness center and multipurpose room are also available but will not be closed to other Members during the 90 minute program. The LNC Good Neighbor Support Network will be a group of fellow Club Members that links older adults and persons with disabilities to support services essential to their physical and mental well-being. The focus is on helping people continue to live independent, fulfilling lives by giving them opportunities to attend events, activities, classes and workshops; gain access to necessary information and resource; and to provide caregiver relief. Community volunteers are invited to participate. A binder will be kept with contact information on those who are willing to create a network of support to assist in general activities of daily living. These may include transportation to appointments, picking up medications/mail, and companionship to provide caregiver relief. Additional Resources are also available throughout Monroe County. A Senior Services Directory is available at the Administrative Office. For more information on participating in the Good Neighbor Network please email Kelly Swingle, Community Center Manager at kswingle@lakenaomiclub.com. Swim Meet Lake Naomi vs Pocono Farms

LN-TT Breast Cancer Rally a Great Success This year’s Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Breast Cancer Rally was a huge success. Of course, this would not have been possible without the support of members, guests and staff. The 5K was run, once again, through the beautiful Pinecrest Lake Community. The excitement of the participants was palpable, the sun was shining and the glow from the participants as they crossed the finish line was unmistakable. The carnival like atmosphere was added to by “Gary in the Morning” a local radio personality, raffle baskets and refreshments. This year, we added a Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Cook Book. This collection of favorite recipes from Members was truly a labor of love. Copies were available at the run and are currently available for purchase at the Mountaintop Lodge. Tennis was its usual fun time with Bobby McKee and Company adding to the festivities. The weather really cooperated with beautiful sunny skies and low humidity. The round robin format was once again a big hit with the players. Golf was a perfect sunny day. The course was beautifully groomed and decorated with pink flags on the greens, pink cups for the holes and flowers to mark the tees. Peter supplied pink lemonade and snacks to replenish the golfers during play with over 130 women participating. The dinner at the Clubhouse was well attended and included raffles, fantastic live and silent auctions, and a delicious meal. A highlight of the evening occurred when a Linda Creed Organization recipient, Jenifer Chen, spoke to the women, giving a face to the funds raised by Lake Naomi-Timber Trails. All of these events, in addition to the Sponsor Book/Pink Pages provide the funds that are raised for the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Organization. All of this money stays in the Pocono area to help women get mammograms, have biopsies if necessary and cover some living expenses that may accrue during treatment. We want to thank all the women and men who helped us with this Herculean task. We are so fortunate to live here and to have the opportunity to give back to the community that provides so much enjoyment to us. Laura Bacon, Nancy Mills, Debbie Lenderink

Picnic Area at LNP Because outside food or drinks may not be brought into the pool areas, two small picnic areas are available lakeside near the canoe racks and boat launching areas on the edge of the LNP parking lot. These areas are available not only for boaters but for those who prefer to bring their own food to the pool. We very much appreciate your cooperation in keeping the café deck seating available for those with café purchases and we hope you’ll enjoy sitting lakeside while eating food brought from home.

Recreation Tennis Court Reservations The Recreation Tennis Courts by North Beach are available daily from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM during the main summer season, through Labor Day. Members may make a one hour reservation for one court, up to two days in advance, by calling the Lake Naomi Tennis Pro Shop at 570-646-7580 after 8:00 AM. The reservation sheet is then posted on the Recreational Courts Bulletin Board prior to each morning’s opening. Members wishing to reserve and play on the same day may do so in person by signing-up on the reservation sheet for play. Members without reservations may walk on the courts anytime there are no reservations listed. A ten-minute grace period is given, after which the court becomes available for registration by another player. Any Member interested in using the Recreation Tennis Courts after Labor Day may play while the courts are unlocked during the day, but will need to sign the daily play sheet as the courts go back to first come first “serve” use after Labor Day.

Landscaping Reminder When purchasing mulch for landscaping around your home, make use of earth tone colors and avoid bright colored mulch which does not blend into our wooded environment (such as reds, blues and greens). Also please do not leave wood/branch debris piles by the road side. They are aesthetically unpleasant and can be a fire hazard. Please contact Association Manager Wendi Freeman for contractor suggestions to assist you in removing or chipping this debris. 8

Tennis Talk Tennis activity during the 2014 summer season is going strong and I wanted to highlight an end of season event to help keep play going strong through August! The last McKee Tennis Event for the season will be the 1st Annual “Lake Naomi Cup” Member-Guest Men’s and Women’s Doubles Tournament. This is a great way to end the summer season by inviting a guest(s) to visit Lake Naomi-Timber Trails for two days of fun, competitive tennis. The dates are Saturday, August 30th and Sunday, August 31st. The draw sizes are limited to eight men’s teams and eight women’s teams. The compass draw format will guarantee teams three matches with an eight draw tournament. Please contact Bobby McKee at (rm@mckeetennis.com), 570-643-5489, or drop by the LN Tennis Center Proshop for more information. A minimum of four teams in each category is needed to conduct the tournament. Hope you will join us for this tournament! Bobby McKee, Tennis Professional

All Tournament awards will be presented at this fun event celebrating the end of another superb p tennis season. Don’t miss it!

Mid-Season eason Tennis Tennis R Reminders eminders Now that the tennis season is in full “swing”, g” we would like to point outt the impor importance of practicing proper court etiquette. Abiding by simple guidelines helps keep our facilities clean, safe, and enjoyable for the entire Membership. Members are reminded to close court doors, avoid walking across other players’ courts, and to speak quietly on the deck, especially when others are playing nearby. All courts have trash cans on the ends of the nets for the disposal of empty cups, water bottles, ball can tops and canisters. Please use the cigarette butt container provided at the entrances of the Tennis Facilities to allow for proper cigarette butt disposal. Pets are not permitted at the Tennis Facilities and may not be tied up at the entrances. Each facility provides bike racks for proper bike storage. Please use them to store and lock your bikes rather than the trees at the entrances. Ringers on cell phones must be turned off at the Tennis Facilities. While we definitely encourage play by our Junior Members, for their own safety, children under the age of ten are not permitted to be left unattended at the Tennis Facilities. The Tennis Dress Code requires proper soft-court footwear for all players, appropriate tennis wear for women and girls, and collared shirts for men and boys at all times and during all activities at Lake Naomi and Timber Trails Tennis Facilities. For your convenience, reservations for all Tennis Facilities are taken through Labor Day at the LNT Pro Shop beginning at 8 AM up to 2 days in advance of desired play time. Thank you for abiding by the Club’s guidelines which ensure quality play for all Members.

Stormy Weather

Meg Whitney Memorial Fun Race

Boating, swimming and sailing in stormy weather is extremely dangerous! Please pay attention to the weather. All watercraft must be brought to shore as soon as the first signs of sstorms begin to appear. Dark clouds aand wind are signs you need to head for sshore immediately. Please do not wait uuntil thunder is heard, because by then llightening is often in the area as well. IIt is much safer to be proactive when it llooks like a storm is “brewing”.

Golf Tip of the Month Teeing your ball the proper height for the driver is essential to get proper contact with the ball. You want the equator of the ball to be even with the top of the clubface. The driver is not meant to come in contact with the ground and this will ensure the proper launch angle if the ball is struck correctly.

Swimming Across the Lake Swimming in the Lake in areas other than the beaches is only permitted if closely accompanied by an attending boat equipped with a wearable flotation device for both the boater and the swimmer. The boater and swimmer must also be equipped with a “mechanical device” to make a sound signal audible for at least one-half mile (like a whistle) to signal for help if the swimmer were to tire, cramp or need assistance for any other reason. The Sailing Office must be contacted (570-646-LAKE) in advance to permit Lake Swimming and has the authority to deny lake swimming during times of heavy boating usage or with severe weather pending. If you ever hear a whistle on the lake from shore or see something you think is concerning, please do not hesitate to contact the Gatehouse (570-646-2550) to report what you see and hear. The Gatehouse can easily contact our Club Beach Supervisor and Safety Boat Operators by radio. The Safety Boat Operators have a very large area of water to cover as well as responsibilities that include running Sailing Regattas and assisting with Instructional Programs. They are there to help you and ask you to follow these listed guidelines to help make our waters a safe place to recreate.

You can help by filling your divots with sand on the tee-boxes, replacing divots in the fairway, repairing your ball marks on the green and raking bunkers. These simple guidelines of etiquette will make it a much more enjoyable round for all.

Watercraft Clarifications nss Did you know the State of PA considers paddleboards watercraft ft which means they are subject to the same regulations? That translates to paddleboards needing to be registered with the Club and stickered in the same manner as all other watercraft at LNC. Operators must have an approved lifejacket with whistle and no one under 12 yrs of age may be on a paddleboard alone. Children under 12 years of age with an adult must be wearing their lifejacket. Inflatable rafts and watercraft must meet USCG safety standards, be at least 8 feet in length, be made of durable, reinforced fabric, and have at least two buoyancy chambers. They, too, must be registered to be used on the lake. Rafts smaller than 8 feet must remain within 25 feet from the property in which they are launched. Floating water trampolines are only permitted at private beaches if secured to a private dock and are not permitted in the middle of the lake.

Important Boating and Lake Reminders The Club Beach Safety Boat Operators wish to remind Members of some important Lake Safety Guidelines. *All watercraft (including paddleboards) must be equipped with an approved wearable flotation device for EVERY person on board with an “audible device” such as a whistle, to signal for help if needed. *LNC strongly recommends all Members wear lifejackets to be prepared for the unexpected. All boaters MUST wear their lifejackets when the yellow “Lifejacket Required” flag is being flown from the Flag Pole on the peninsula at Club Beach. *Children age 12 and under must wear lifejackets at all times. *Boaters and fisherpersons must maintain a safe distance (never closer than 25 feet) from all other boats, beaches, marinas and swimming areas. *Swimming from watercraft is strongly discouraged. Boats get away from swimmers much easier than people think and swimmers quickly become exhausted trying to catch them. DO NOT DIVE OR JUMP off watercraft as hidden rocks and stumps can cause very serious injury.

Rules of the Road Walking and bike riding are two of the more popular activities that people enjoy doing in Lake Naomi – Timber Trails. With the amount of traffic on Lake Naomi – Timber Trails roads and the number of walkers and bikers, here are a few safety tips. 1.The Speed limit on the roads in the Timber Trails Community is 25 miles per hour. Speed is monitored by the Patrol Rangers using radar. 2.In Lake Naomi, the speed limit is 25 mph unless otherwise posted. Speed enforcement details are conducted regularly by Pocono Mountain Regional Police using state of the art speed detection technology. 3.When walking, always walk on the left side of the road – facing traffic. 4.Bike riders are to ride on the right side of the road – with traffic. 5.When traffic approaches, walkers and cyclists are to move to the side of the road and walk or ride single file. 6.Make use of bike/pedestrian paths whenever possible! 7.Bike helmets are encouraged for all bike riders, Pennsylvania State law requires helmets for all children under the age of 12 riding bicycles. 8.Drive extra cautiously in the area of Lake Naomi–Timber Trails amenities. 9.When walking or jogging at night, please wear white or reflective clothing. 10.Share the Road.

Fish Stocking Update and Fishing Guideline Reminders On Saturday, June 28th, members of the Lakes Committee stocked (500) 10” – 12” Large Mouth Bass in Lake Naomi. Bass were also stocked in Deer Trail Lake and Hemlock Pond. All fisherpersons must wear their current Membership ID along with their Pennsylvania Fishing License (required for any person fishing over the age of 16). The Lakes Committee encourages LIVE RELEASE of all trout. All bass and walleye must be live released. Please take special care to not over tire, squeeze or injure the fish. If a fish is deeply hooked, simply cut your line close to the fish’s mouth. Remember practicing catch and release not only increases reproduction, but allows for sport another day. One last note – the lakes and stream throughout the Community are shared by fellow Members for various recreational activities. Cleaning up your fishing site thoroughly is essential as fishing litter like line and hooks can be dangerous to other Members, pets and our wildlife. For that reason Members are not permitted to fish (either on shore or by boat) within 25 feet of any of the Club’s beaches. Youth Fishing Clinic

Beach Reminders All Members and their Guests are asked to refrain from bringing any type of glass or pets onto the beaches. All beaches are also non-smoking. The guidelines are in place to preserve our beaches. Please respect your fellow Members and adhere to these guidelines.

Save Your Club Some Green by "Going Green" At this time, less than 3% of our entire membership "opts out" of receiving the printed version of our Reflections newsletter and receives the online version only. We know we have many, many more "environment and spending conscience" members who would be willing to "Go Green and Save Green" by receiving their newsletter electronically. If we increased this number from 3% to 30%, the Club could save over $2,000 on each Reflections mailing! That adds up to $14,000 at year! We want to hear from you! It's easy to "opt out". Just go to our website at www.LakeNaomiClub.com, click on "Members" in the upper right, then look under the "Online Sign-up" tab for "Reflections Online Request". Or simply e-mail us at admin@lakenaomiclub.com and tell us you want to start receiving your Reflections newsletter via e-mail only. Please note this applies to the Reflections newsletter only. You will continue to receive all other mailings from the Club including important meeting notifications, membership votes, etc. Also note that even if you are already signed up to receive Reflections online, you will continue to also receive the printed version until you actually opt-out. Let's see how far we can grow this small percentage of our membership who wants to receive their newsletter online only. We look forward to hearing from you to tell us you want to "Go Green". We'll keep you posted on the progress! 12

Lake Naomi Club Q & A Is Jeff Evans still employed by the Club? Jeff recently completed his service as the Club’s Consulting Manager, a part-time position he has held since the end of 2010 when he stepped down as the Club’s General Manager. Jeff continues to be available to assist the Club as needed on an hourly consulting basis. Jeff also consults and serves as an Expert Witness with Private Clubs and Planned Communities through his firm Management Matters LLC. Since 2011 Jeff has worked on projects in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, South Carolina, Florida, Texas, Missouri, Indiana, California and the Caribbean. Why are there two orange cones blocking two parking spaces in front of the LNCH loading dock? The Club must block these two spaces off on the day the garbage is scheduled for pick-up. If this area is blocked then the garbage truck cannot get to the LNCH dumpster. The contractor will not return until the next scheduled pick-up thus creating an overflow of garbage. Please avoid these spaces when the orange cones are out. What is the difference between the Board of Governors, the Committees and the Board of Trustees? The Committees typically deal with a very specific area of the Club’s operation (i.e. Golf, Clubhouse, Finance, etc.). The Committees discuss matters that deal with their area of the operation and then make recommendations to the Board of Governors (BOG). The BOG is comprised of Committee Chairs as well as At-Large Members and numbers approximately twenty-five. The BOG is an Advisory Board that makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees (BOT). The BOT is the seven Member Board that has the ultimate financial, legal and fiduciary responsibility for the Club’s assets and operations. The Club reserves the right to print and/ or respond to inquiries at its sole discretion. Selected questions, comments or suggestions may be edited to meet space constraints. Submit questions, comments and suggestions to: Laura Altemose, Reflections Editor Lake Naomi Club 122 Route 423, PO Box T Pocono Pines, PA 18350 Fax: 570-646-5796 Email: laltemose@lakenaomiclub.com
