As this summer comes to a close, in honor of the 50th Anniversary the Club is planning one last, big Summer send-off on Saturday, August 31st. There will be a Labor Day Celebration on Club Beach with kids’ games, food, music and a very special firework display after dark. More details about this event will follow but make sure to mark it on your calendars. Spend Labor Day with all of your friends celebrating the end of the 50th Summer season in Lake Naomi Club style. The rain date for this event is Sunday, September 1st.

Lake Naomi Club 50th Anniversary Car Show Come show off your pride and joy! The Fourth Annual Lake Naomi Club Car Show will be held Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 2:30 PM until 6:00 PM. The registration fee is $20.00, including space for your car, window sign and gift bag. The car convoy will begin at the Community Center at 2:00 PM, ending at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse. Live entertainment will be outside during the car show with a 50/50 raffle to benefit a local charity and beautiful raffle baskets. Also the Duster Bar at the beach will be opened offering frozen drinks, sodas, wine and beer on tap. The trophies will be given out at the Beach Party that night. Classic cars to be judged must be at least 25 years old. Newer cars will be eligible for People’s Choice trophies. Prizes will be awarded to the top three classic cars and top three newer cars. We will continue the party through the night with Chef Paul and his culinary team preparing a delicious BBQ Grille Buffet, Beach Bonfire and Frozen Yogurt Bar from 6:00 PM to the end outside at the beach level patio. For your car registration, please call the Clubhouse (570) 646-2866. Online reservations for the car show can be made in the Members Section of the Club’s website www.LakeNaomiClub.com under online Sign-Up. Same day registration is $25. Come early and enjoy the beautiful lake beach. Rain date for Car Show & Beach Party Sunday, September 15.

Lake Naomi Club Lobster Feast On the weekend of Friday & Saturday, August 23rd and 24th, whole lobsters will be cooked on the Clubhouse deck from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Enjoy whole Maine lobsters either steamed or grilled served with drawn butter. Choose from either soup of the day, house salad or Caesar salad along with garden vegetable and baked potato all for the price of $40.00 per person.

Price subject to change based on the market price of lobster. Reservations are required by Wednesday, August 21st by 2:00 PM. Dinner Menu will be also available from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Call the Clubhouse at 570-646-2866 for more information and reservations.

Meet the Trustees Coffee Join your Trustees for this Stand Up Social Saturday, August 17th at 9:30 AM at the Logan Steele Community Center. This is your chance to chat with the Lake Naomi Club Trustees on important issues you would like to discuss over a cup of coffee. No official presentation will be made. The Trustee Coffee will be just prior to the Club’s Annual Meeting conducted by the Board of Governors which begins at 10:30 AM at the same location.

Kids Welcome at Annual Meeting The Recreation Team will be on hand at the Annual Meeting on Saturday, August 17th to watch your kids ages 4 and up. So bring your kids and they will have a great time while you attend the Trustee Coffee and the BOG Annual Meeting.

LNC’s 50th Anniversary History Presentation On Saturday, August 10th at 10:00 AM in the Lake Naomi Clubhouse, Communications Manager Laura Altemose will be giving a presentation of the Lake Naomi Club’s first 50 years. She will be showing many records of developers, early marketing materials and old pictures that will take you back to the 1960’s! The presentation will last about one hour and attendees are encouraged to share some of their memories from the early days. This is an encore presentation that was originally given at the HATT meeting in June where all the attendees raved about information given. So come out and learn about the LNC’s history from 1963 to the rise as a Platinum Club Community today.

Fox 29 Good Day Show a Big Win Fox 29 Philadelphia was on Club Beach Monday, July 22 at 6:30 AM. Club Beach was filled with active Members ready to show Philadelphia why they love LNC. The beach was filled and Lake Naomi was also active with sailors, kayakers, paddle boarders, canoers and a single scull. After filming Club Beach the Fox 29 Team went over to Lake Naomi Pool to check out the swim team in action. The third destination was Lake Naomi Tennis where Cardio Tennis was showcased on the front courts and many players were on the courts showing off their talents. Bobby McKee had a great interview too. A big Thank-you to all the Members who eagerly participated in this event. Notice was short with the announcement made on Friday, July 19 but the message was passed quickly and the enthusiasm grew. Some Members even rearranged their work schedule to help out. Also thanks to the LNC Staff who put in extra time to get the amenities open and full for the early hours. Thanks to Operations Coordinator Meredith Sensenig and her staff for coordinating all the Members and thanks to Scott Hall and his Maintenance Team for making everything look picture perfect. It was truly inspiring watching the Members showcasing their LNC pride.

After the show aired MTL Inn Keeper Carolyn Keiper reported that a steady flow of reservations were made. The Administrative Office phones were ringing off the hook with viewers wanting more information. Over a dozen marketing packets were requested from the website. The activity on the website was off the charts. This was a big win for LNC! The viewers from the Philly area received the message and are eager to participate in the LNC lifestyle.

House Checking Service Have you ever worried about your home in Lake Naomi or Timber Trails while you were away from the Community for any length of time? Here is your piece of mind: Beginning on October 1st for as little as $1.00 a day you can have a Member of the Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Ranger Staff check the exterior of your home. Other services such as interior checks, heat adjustment and alarm response are also available for an additional fee. Detailed information on the 2013-2014 Optional House Checking Program is available at the Community Center, Administrative Office or online at www.LakeNaomiClub.com under the Online Office.

Sunset on Lake Naomi Come on out to the Lake Naomi Clubhouse to say farewell to another summer at the lake! This year’s Sunset on Lake Naomi will be held on Saturday, September 7th.There will be a cash bar starting at 6:00 PM with a variety of passed hors d’ oeuvres including jumbo shrimp cocktail and then dinner will start at 7:00 PM. Everyone’s favorite entertainment will be “Joe and his Friends”. So bring your family, friends and neighbors for a fun night of dinner and dancing! German Summer Fest 2013 It's almost Oktoberfest time again, but before that, Lake Naomi Clubhouse presents the Fifth German Summer Fest on Thursday, August 8, 2013 beginning at 6:00 PM. Clubhouse Manager Peter Koryttko and his team will have plenty of food, beer, fun and yodeling to last the entire night! Original Bavarian entertainment by the "REINHOLD WIEDEMANN" Zither player begins at 7:00 PM. Potato pancakes, sauerbraten, koenigsberger klopse, bavarian chicken, apple strudel and of course German beers and wines are sure to make this night memorable! Alcohol Policy Issues The Club would like to address a concern of the Membership and Management regarding the consumption of alcoholic beverages. The Club will not serve alcoholic beverages to anyone visibly intoxicated regardless of the situation. Also, as per Pennsylvania Law, anyone under the age of 21 is not permitted to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages. Even with a parent or guardian present this is not legal. Anyone observed giving or buying alcoholic beverages for an intoxicated person or minor may be reported to the police and are subject to the termination of their membership in accordance with the Club Bylaws.

LNC Dog ID LNC sponsors a dog identification tracking system free of charge.

Please come to the Administrative Office to register your dog. You will be provided with a numbered tag for your dog insuring the safe return of your beloved pet if found loose in the Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Community. Pets are part of our family, let’s keep them safe while being considerate of our neighbors.

Pin Collecting is “In” at LNC Many of our members are already collecting our Special Event 50th Anniversary Pins and displaying them proudly on their membership badge lanyard. In addition we have now started our collection series of pins. We are regularly asked: “How many pins are there going to be?” and “Where do I get the pins?” Until recently these have not been easy questions to answers as the club’s committees continued to design and request pins for various events.

Collector Series: The Collector series will be 9 pins. These pins are only available for sale at the amenity they represent for the first two weeks they are released, after that you will be able to find the whole collection at the Community Center. You can expect to see the following pins throughout the summer: Clubhouse, Community Center, Sailing, Tennis, Golf, Lakes beaches and boats, Lake Naomi Pool, Mountaintop Lodge and finally the 50th Anniversary Pin. Event Series: The event pins will be much more limited. They are only available for participation or sale at certain events or functions. If any of the pins were left over they are available for sale at the Community Center. We plan to have issued a total of 19 pins in this series which are: Winterfest, Memorial Day, Welcome Back Party, Fishing Clinic/Derby, Kids Klub, Swim Team, Independence Day, Women’s/Men’s Luncheon, Triathlon, Family Adventure Race, Big Splash, Junior Sailing, Tennis 50th Event, Golf Banquet, Night Recreation, Fitness 50/50, Labor Day, Vespers Service, and Festifall.

The The Trailstimber Family Lake Naomi Club Board of Governors has comth missioned the publication of the LNC 50 Anniversary Memory Book. We invite Club Members to be Patrons! As a Patron you will be able to share your message and pictures on a full color page. The memory book will also include the story and pictures of Lake Naomi Club from 1963 to our rise as a Platinum Club Community.

We will capture phenomenal photos of our 50th Anniversary Celebrations and all LNC activities such as sailing, Kids Klub, swim team, tennis, golf and more!

We want to add your photos of celebrations and activities! The Patron Contribution is $50 per page and the page size is 8.5 x 11. There is no limit on the number of pictures per page.

Carnival at LSCC

Lake Naomi Club Family Campout Join us on August 10th for a night under the stars at the first Lake Naomi Club Family Campout! Bring your tent and sleeping bag and enjoy a night of games, campfire songs and much more!

There will be marshmallows and water available but please feel free to bring some snacks of your own. Wake up early the next morning and enjoy a hot breakfast with all the other campers. Located in the Sports Fields behind the Community Center this campout will be a great experience for new and seasoned campers alike. $15 per tent site includes everything! Sign up at the Community Center now!

Lake Naomi Club’s Got Talent We want to see your talent! Once again this year there are tons of opportunities to let your inner star shine. The Kids Klub will be having a talent show on Thursday, August 8th at the Community Center starting at 6:00 PM. This opens up the stage to all talents in our third Lake Naomi Club’s Got Talent search on Tuesday, August 13th at Club Beach. If you sing, do magic, are a ventriloquist or have some other fun talent, sign up at the Community Center by August 12th so we can get your act in the showcase. The cookout will be from 5:30 -7:30 PM with the show starting at 6:00 PM. Our panel of judges will be awarding prizes. Let’s show the world that the Lake Naomi Club’s got talent!

Pre-Teen and Teen Club Nights

There is still time to sign up for the Pre-teen and Teen Saturday, August 17th Club nights. The Teen Advisory Committee has been 10:30 AM working hard planning these events which are held each Logan Steele year as a formal celebration of the Summer. Teens (grades Community Center 9 and up) get to have a buffet dinner at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse and dance to a DJ in this themed evening. The Pre-Teens (Grade 6 thru 8) enjoy hot hors d’oeuvres and a DJ in the Timber Trails Clubhouse. Teen Club Night is August 6th from 7:30-11:00 PM, Pre-Teen Club Night is August 14th 7:0010:00 PM. Clubhouse attire is required for both events.

Book Club The Book Club meets regularly on the second Monday of the month at 1:00 PM at the Community Center and is always open to new participants. Everyone is welcome – even if you haven’t read the book.

The discussions talk about the book, the writing style and if it was favorable to everyone’s tastes, but does not give the plot away. This is a great way to get introduced to a variety of books that you may never have looked at otherwise. If you have questions please call Vilma Zabaleta (570) 646-7259. Outdoor Family Movies at Club Beach The last three movies of the Summer scheduled for August 18th, 25th & September 1st will be under the stars at Club Beach. Bring the whole family and your beach blankets to enjoy the show on the big screen right after the sun sets (around 8:00 PM). There will be no admission charge. The café will be open prior to the movie starting and for a short time after each movie begins, so get your snacks early!

Each week’s feature will be listed in the Weekly Flyer. Come out and join us to experience the fun of the outdoor movie.

Liztech Bead Bash Join us on Thursday, August 29th from 7:00-8:30 PM for a Liztech Bead Bash! What is a Liztech bead bash do you ask? This is where a local jeweler from the Liztech Gallery in East Stroudsburg brings 80 pounds of beads to Lake Naomi and allows you to make and keep as much jewelry as you can finish in 90 minutes.

It is estimated that 5-6 memory wire bracelets can be made in this amount of time. Everyone will start off making a bracelet just to get acquainted and then can move on to necklaces and earrings. The cost is $20 per person for this event. Participants must be at least 14 years old to attend without adult supervision. For more information on Liztech visit www.liztech. com. Registration for this event is being taken at the Community Center.

Refund Policy In order to receive a refund for Summer Activities it is important to follow certain guidelines. A refund request form can be obtained at the Community Center or online at www.LakeNaomiClub.com and must be submitted to the Community Center. To receive a refund for recreation programs, classes and trips, the cancellation must be received 48 hours in advance or the space needs to be filled by another participant if the cancellation is under the 48 hour time frame. The refund must be approved by the Department Manager and a $5.00 processing fee will be charged.

If payment for the program was made using a credit card, the refund less the $5.00 will be issued to the credit card, otherwise a check will be issued. All recreation program refunds will be issued the week of September 15, 2013.

To receive a refund for Kids Klub, Afternoon Klub or Kub Klub the refund request must be submitted to the Community Center or online. There will be a $25.00 processing fee that will be deducted from the refund. If payment for the program was made using a credit card at the Community Center, the refund less the $25.00 will be issued to the credit card, for registrations taken on-line or other form of payment, a check will be issued. All Kids Klub, Afternoon Klub and Kub Klub refunds will be issued within 30 days of the request.

Garden News The LNC Community Garden has been growing a bountiful harvest this year. Over 50 Member families were assigned a 4x10 garden box this year.

All Members are welcome to join in the educational sessions held each Saturday during the summer and ending with a Harvest Party on August 10th to celebrate the success of everyone’s labors. If you are interested in a garden box for next year, please contact Kelly Swingle, Community Center Manager, at 570-646-8585 to get your name on the waiting list.

Community Center Guest Fees All Members must have their membership badges at all times while using club amenities.

The intent of the membership and guest policies are to provide fair and equitable use of the Club facilities to all rightful Members and their guests. Members are required to accompany and introduce their guest when using the facilities. Please refer to your Leisure Service Guide for further details. The guest fee for adults (19 and over) remains at $10.00. The guest fee for adults (19 and over) arriving at the Community Center after 6:00 PM (or 4 hours before closing time) will be $5.00.

The guest fee for youth (between the ages of 4 and 18) will be $5.00 at all times. There is never a guest fee for children 3 and under.

If a guest fee is paid at the Lake Naomi or Timber Trails Pool and then the guest desires to move to the Community Center on the same day, only the difference equal to the Community Center Guest Fee must be paid.

Stormy Weather Boating, swimming and sailing in stormy weather is extremely dangerous! Please pay attention to the weather. All watercraft must be brought to shore as soon as the first signs of storms begin to appear. Dark clouds and wind are signs you need to head for shore immediately. Please do not wait until thunder is heard, because by then lightening is often in the area as well. It is much safer to be proactive when it looks like a storm is “brewing”.

Tour de Naomi Join us on Saturday, August 17th for a scenic ride thru the Community on this ten mile tour. Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome to join. There is no fee but pre registration is required. Please call the Community Center at 570-646-8585 to sign up.

Fitness 50/50 Grand Finale Spectacular!

The Fitness Committee invites you to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of LNC with a field-day style party at the Community Center on August 24th at 11 AM. This day will be filled with physical challenges, great prizes and a light lunch. The cost is $$15 for children and $18 for adults.

Fall Yoga Retreat The Fitness Committee and the Mountaintop Lodge are planning anothher yoga retreat for the Fall. Mark your calendars for the 27th, 28th and 29th of September and look for further details as we get closer.

Rules of the Road Walking and bike riding are two of the more popular activities that people do in Lake Naomi – Timber Trails. With the amount of traffic on Lake Naomi – Timber Trails roads and the number of walkers and bikers, here are a few safety tips.

1. The Speed limit on the roads in the Timber Trails Community is 25 miles per hour hour.

Speed is monitored by the Patrol Rangers using radar.

2. In Lake Naomi, the speed limit is 25 mph unless otherwise posted. Speed enforcement details are conducted regularly by Pocono Mountain Regional Police using state of the art speed detection technology.

3. When walking, always walk on the left side of the road – facing traffic.

4. Bike riders are to ride on the right side of the road – with traffic.

5. When traffic approaches, walkers and cyclists are to move to the side of the road and walk or ride single file.

6. Make use of bike/pedestrian paths whenever possible!

7. Bike helmets are encouraged for all bike riders, Pennsylvania State law requires helmets for all children under the age of 12 riding bicycles.

8. Drive extra cautiously in the area of Lake Naomi–Timber Trails amenities.

9. When walking or jogging at night, please wear white or reflective clothing.

10.Share the Road.

An Amenity Map shows all the amenities on a Google Map where you can easily search for an amenity. Landscaping Reminder When purchasing mulch for landscaping around your home, make use of earth tone colors and avoid bright colored mulch which does not blend into our wooded environment (such as reds, blues and greens). Also please do not leave wood/branch debris piles by the road side. They are aesthetically unpleasant and can be a fire hazard. Please contact Association Manager Wendi Freeman for contractor suggestions to assist you in removing or chipping this debris.

Open Water Swimming Club Beach has been offering Open Water Swimming on Saturday evenings the past few summers. Now that the popularity of this program has grown to more than 25 swimmers we felt it necessary to move the swim to Saturday mornings. This is a much safer time of day as the lifeguards do not struggle with the evening sun glair which has made it very difficult to see the heads of so many swimmers as they spread out over the course.

Swimmers are asked to meet at the Boat House located at Club Beach at 8:50 AM to register. Swimmers are expected to swim the marked course that includes a dedicated Safety Boat. The last Saturday for lake swimming is August 10th. Don’t miss your chance to swim with other Masters at a time set aside just for honing your open water swimming skills.

Picnic Area at LNP Because no outside food or drink may be brought into the pool areas, two small picnic areas are available lakeside near the canoe racks and boat launching areas on the edge of the LNP parking lot. These areas are available not only for boaters but for those who prefer to bring their own food to the pool. We very much appreciate your cooperation in rchases and we hope you’ll keeping the café deck seating available for those with café purchases enjoy sitting lakeside if you’d like to eat food brought from home.

LN-TT Breast Cancer Rally a Great Success This year’s Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Breast Cancer Rally was a huge success. Of course, this would not have been possible without the support of members, guests and staff.

The 5K, our newest addition, exceeded everyone’s expectation, raising over $7,700.00.

The excitement of the participants was palpable and although the sun was not shining, the glow from the participants as they crossed the finish line was unmistakable.

Tennis was its usual fun time with Bobby McKee and Company adding to the festivities.

Even Bob Millard, our golf pro, got into the spirit of the day, playing doubles tennis with Bobby and the winners of the raffle who made donations for the opportunity to participate in what we hope will become an annual tradition.

Golf was a hot, sunny day. The course was beautifully groomed and decorated with pink flags on the greens, pink cups for the holes and flowers to mark the tees. Peter supplied pink lemonade and snacks to replenish the golfers during play with over 130 women participating.

The dinner at the Club was well attended and included raffles, a fantastic live and silent auction and a delicious meal. A highlight of the evening occurred when a Linda Creed Organization recipient spoke to the women, giving a face to the funds raised by Lake Naomi-Timber Trails.

All of these events in addition to the Sponsor Book/Pink Pages pushed us beyond the record mark set last year. All of this money stays in the Pocono area to help women get mammograms, have biopsies if necessary and cover some living expenses that may accrue during treatment.

We want to thank all the women and men who helped us with this Herculean task. We are so fortunate to live here and to have the opportunity to give back to the community that provides so much enjoyment to us.

End of Season Aquatics Schedule The Pools and Beaches in Lake Naomi and Timber Trails will close for the Season at 4:00 PM on Monday, September 2nd. The Community Center aquatics area will switch to the following hours after Labor Day: Monday – Thursday 10AM – 7:45 PM Friday – Saturday 10AM – 9:45 PM Sunday 10AM – 4:45 PM

Pool Reminders Use of floatation devices are limited to those items attached to the it child in all pools. ch Children who cannot swim must be supervised by an adult in the water or on the waters edge. Water toys may be brought into only the wading pool at LN Pool and may be approved for the CC Pool and TT Pool but only at times the lifeguard feels they are manageable. These reminders are to help assure the best of our Summer days at the pool for all.

Unattended Children Children under age 10 must be accompanied by an adult Member (aged 16 or older) who is responsible for their safety, behavior and conformance with amenity regulations. The responsible person must remain close to the child in order to achieve this requirement.

Beach Reminders All Members and their Guests are asked to refrain from bringing any type of glass or pets onto the beaches. All beaches are also non-smoking. The guidelines are in place to preserve our beaches. Please respect your fellow Members and adhere to these guidelines.

End of Tournament Celebration All are invited to the Lake Naomi Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon, August 18th for the End of Tournament Celebration. The celebration will commence immediately following the Adult Mixed Doubles finals with a wonderful buffet prepared and served by the LNCH staff. Adult Tournament participants are invited as guests of the Tennis Committee, and the cost for others is $20 per adult and $10 per child.

Registration at the Pro Shop is required. All Adult Tournament awards will be presented at this fun event celebrating the end of another superb tennis season. Don’t miss it!

Tennis Talk The summer is flying by, as it seems like just yesterday that we arrived and began our summer programs.

As we head into the “second half”, take advantage of your time at the courts. The McKee Tennis Staff is willing and able to assist you with your tennis game. Be sure to book your time with one of the pros. Kilian will be leaving the first week of August. Nateesha and Lacey will be at Lake Naomi until the 9th, and Jordan and Zoey will be leaving the 15th in order to get back to their University for the Fall Semester.

Don’t forget to sign up for our fun junior event – Junior Jamboree and Jammin, Saturday, August 3rd, 4:30-6 PM. Registration deadline is Thursday, August 1st at 3 PM. Three age groups; 10 & under, 11 to 14, and 15+. Come out for fun play, contests and prizes while Jammin with DJ “Maggie B”. Sub sandwiches will be served following the play.

The fee is $20 per person. A minimum of 10 players is needed to conduct this event with a maximum of 35 players.

Tennis Club Championship Tournaments The Club Championship Tournaments are underway at Lake Naomi Tennis. The Adult Singles and Doubles and Junior divisions are complete, but we are still looking forward to the Adult Mixed Doubles matches! Deadline for registration is August 3rd, with early round and quarter final play on Saturday and Sunday August 10th and 11th. Semi-final and Final matches will follow on Saturday and Sunday August 17th and 18th. Match times will be posted with the draw outside the LNT Pro Shop. Spectators are welcome on deck to watch these exciting matches and the Courtside Café will be open with extended hours as needed for these weekends. Please come out and show your support for the Tennis Members who participate in this great Club tradition.

Mid-Season Tennis Reminders Now that the tennis season is in full “swing”, we’d like to point out the h iimportance off practicing proper court etiquette. Abiding by simple guidelines helps keep our facilities clean, safe and enjoyable for the entire Membership. Members are reminded to close court doors, avoid walking across other players’ courts, and to speak quietly on the deck, especially when others are playing nearby. All courts have trash cans on the ends of the nets for the disposal of empty cups, water bottles, ball can tops and canisters. Please use the cigarette butt container provided at the entrances of the Tennis Facilities to allow for proper cigarette butt disposal. Pets are not permitted at the Tennis Facilities and may not be tied up at the entrances. Each facility provides bike racks for proper bike storage.

Please use them to store and lock your bikes rather than the trees at the entrances. Ringers on cell phones must be turned off at the Tennis Facilities. While we definitely encourage play by our Junior Members, for their own safety children under ten years of age are not permitted to be left unattended at the Tennis Facilities. The Tennis Dress Code requires proper soft-court footwear for all players, appropriate tennis wear for women and girls, and collared shirts for men and boys at all times and during all activities at Lake Naomi and Timber Trails Tennis Facilities. For your convenience, reservations for all Tennis Facilities are taken through Labor Day at the LNT Pro Shop beginning at 8 AM up to 2 days in advance of desired play time. Thank you for abiding by the Club’s guidelines which ensure quality play for all Members.

Recreation Tennis Court Reservations The Recreation Tennis Courts by North Beach are available daily from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM during the main summer season, through Labor Day. Members may make a one hour reservation for one court, up to two days in advance, by calling the Lake Naomi Tennis Pro Shop at 646-7580 after 8:00 AM. The reservation sheet is then posted on the Recreational Courts Bulletin Board prior to each morning’s opening. Members wishing to reserve and play on the same day may do so in person by signing-up on the reservation sheet for play. Members without reservations may walk on the courts anytime there are no reservations listed. A ten-minute grace period is given, after which the court becomes available for registration by another player. Any Member interested in using the Recreation Tennis Courts after Labor Day may play while the courts are unlocked during the day, but will need to sign the daily play sheet as the courts go back to first come first “serve” use after Labor Day. 8

Family Sailing Tailgate Party and Sailing 50th Anniversary Celebration The Sailing Instructors and Committee are hosting a Family Sailing Tailgate Party in honor of the Junior Regatta on Friday, August 9th from 6:00 PM -9:00 PM at Club Beach.

Families are invited to kickoff the big weekend of Junior racing with socializing, fun and the ever popular kayak relays. Members can bring dinner to the beach that evening, which is not a regular Club policy. Although the picnicking on the beach policy will be relaxed for this event, the NO GLASS policy will not.

This great night of family fun will be extra special this year. At dusk the LNC Sailing Association will launch sky lanterns in honor of the Club’s 50th year. This is an extra special occasion as the Sailing Program actually predates the Club and some of our sailors helped shape the original Board of Governors and Club’s Leisure Service Guide which have become the bones of the Organization’s structure all these years.

So no matter where you are here on Aug 9th, take a few minutes to check out the sky… each flying lantern above marks one of the 50 fantastic years of LNC.

End of Junior Sailing Program Celebration The Junior Sailing six week instructional program ends with the Junior Regatta and the End of Program Celebration being held on Sunday, August 11th at 6:30 PM at the Logan Steele Community Center Pavilion. All Junior Instructional Program participants are invited to attend the pizza party held by the Sailing Instructors and Sailing Association. There is no cost for this celebration, however pre-registration is required. Please contact the Sailing Office no later than Saturday, August 10th. The season’s sailing memento will be presented to all the participants as will the awards for the A and B Fleet Race Champions and the annual special achievement awards. The Junior Regatta results and trophies will also be presented. Mark your calendars now as this is a night the Junior Sailors should not miss.

LNC Sailing Association Annual Meeting The Annual Meeting and Election of Officers of the Lake Naomi Club Sailing Association will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 2nd in the Tall Timber Room of the Lake Naomi Clubhouse. This is an open meeting and all Club Members are invited to attend. A summary of the Summer’s events will be provided and suggestions for the 2014 season will be received for further planning by the Sailing Committee and Management throughout the year.

Junior Championship Sailing Regatta Attention young Sailing Members, your weekend is quickly approaching. The twoday Junior Regatta is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, August 10th and 11th beginning at Noon each day. The regular adult racing schedule takes a break so the safety boats, Club sailboats and Race Committee TIKI are all dedicated to the Juniors. Sailors must register to race in advance with the Sailing Office by Tuesday, August 6th. At that time you may also sign-up for the optional boxed lunch and register to use a Club Sunfish if you do not have a boat of your own. PLEASE DO THIS RIGHT AWAY as we often have a higher need for boats than what’s in our fleet and must ask for Sailing Committee Members to loan their boats. Don’t miss this fun weekend set aside in honor of our young sailors.

Watercraft Clarifications

Duster Sailing Nationals August 17th & 18th will be the dates for this summer’s Duster Nationals.

Start time for the three races on Saturday is 10:30 AM while two races begin at noon on Sunday. A group seating for dinner is available in the Lake Naomi Clubhouse at 6:00 PM on Saturday with advanced reservation required. The Butts Cup trophy which is traditionally awarded to the highest scoring Junior skipper will be up for grabs so Juniors interested in sailing should notify the Sailing Instructors as soon as possible so they can secure the number of boats needed. Sailing Committee Members are also available to Crew for Juniors less comfortable in the larger boats.

The same offer applies to adults.

If you’ve sailed a Duster in the past but just don’t have one now, contact the Sailing Office or any of the Sailing Committee Members who will be happy to find you an available boat so that you too can join the fun.

End of Season Sailing Celebration All sailors who participated in any of the 2013 adult sailing races and regattas are invited to attend the End of Season Celebration held Sunday, September 1st in the Lake Naomi Clubhouse Main Dining Room at 6:00 PM. All the season’s race results and awards will be presented by the Fleet Captains. Don’t miss this opportunity to recap the season, share stories and socialize with your fellow sailors. Chef Paul and the Clubhouse Staff look forward to serving the Sailing group so please help them to adequately prepare by PRE-REGISTERING with the Sailing Office no later than Wednesday, August 28th. There is no cost for this event but you must pre-register.

Did you know the State of PA considers paddleboards watercraft which means they are subject to the same regulations? That translates to paddleboards needing to be registered and stickered in the same manner as all ll other th watercraft t ft att LNC LNC. Operators must have an approved lifejacket with whistle and no one under 12 yrs of age may be on a paddleboard alone. Children under 12 years of age with an adult must be wearing their lifejacket.

Inflatable rafts are only permitted off shore of private property if US Coastguard approved, made of durable, reinforced fabric and have at least two buoyancy chambers.

They too must be registered in order to be used as watercraft in the lake.

Floating water trampolines are only permitted at private beaches if secured to a private dock and are not permitted in the middle of the lake.

Golf Course Etiquette

The green side bunker shot is probably the most intimidating shot for amateur golfers. The first and most important step is to select the right club. You want to use your sand or lob wedge, preferably one with medium to high bounce. Bounce is a term that refers to the angle of a golf club's sole from leading edge to trailing edge. If you hold an iron or wedge upside down with the head up and perfectly vertical you may notice that the leading edge (bottom of the club face) is lower than the back edge. This is the bounce angle. A club that has more bounce will be used in soft conditions, such as the sand, because the bounce will allow for the club to easily cut through the sand allowing the golf ball to come out. The second step in hitting a proper bunker shot is to make sure that you properly set up. Position the golf ball slightly in front of the middle of your stance, aim a little to the left of your target with an open stance and open your club face to add loft to your golf club.

The open club face and open stance will start the golf ball to the right, but helps to generate more spin. 60% of your weight should be distributed towards your front foot because this will allow you to hit down on the golf ball. Once you are correctly set up your next step is your swing path. Your typical swing path looks like the letter “U”, but with a bunker shot your swing path should be like the letter “V”. Start your backswing with an immediate hinge of the wrists, while turning your shoulders and lifting your arms straight-up. The downswing should follow the same steep path made on the backswing. Keep your lower body quiet during the entire swing. Aim to hit through the sand 1 to 2 inches behind the ball. The displacement of the sand will naturally lift the golf ball onto the green. With the right technique and a little practice the bunker shot will be no scarier than any other green side pitch.

Swing Shop

As a general reminder, we think it is important to reiterate some of the basic principles of behavior on and around a golf course, particularly at a private club like ours. Repair and maintenance of the golf course is not just a job for the Timber Trails Golf Maintenance Team. So let’s all lend a hand. Fix your ball mark and one other. Replace your divots. If the divot cannot be effectively replaced, please use the sand/seed mixture instead. This is most important on the teeing areas as they are subject to heavy use and require everyone’s attention. Also, we ask that all rakes be placed inside the bunkers.

With regard to “tees”, used and/or broken tees should be removed from the ground and placed in the containers provided in the tee box areas on each hole. This may seem like a minor concern, but be assured the build up of broken tees has been significant.

So please help us keep your course free from this type of debris.

We all strive to keep the course in the best possible playing condition.

The weather has much to do with condition of the course. Since none of us can control the weather, we can only react to what the weather provides us. So, when you see the signs that say “Cart Path Only”, remember it is being done so that the course will not be further damaged by the conditions that the weather has already created. Your cooperation and assistance is appreciated.

Golf Notes We have had some exciting tournaments to date this year. In the Timber Trails Memorial Bill and Carol Maute captured the title, winning the championship for the third time. Finishing second was the team of Bob Kane and Barbara Borretsky. In the Parent – Grandparent Child Tournament there were some low scores and some memorable moments by all the participants. The 10 and under division champs were Brian and Harlan Graber and the runner-ups were Doug Klem and Mason Chabot. In the 11 to 13 year old division the winners were Dean and Joey Altemose with Greg and Nolan Flynn finishing second. The 14 to 17 year old victors were Derrick and Jeff Handwerk with Rod and Chris Drysdale following in second place. Congratulations to all the players in this enjoyable event.

Some upcoming events include the annual Club Championship which will be conducted on Saturday and Sunday, August 10th and 11th.The Junior Club Championship will be held on the same weekend. There will be flights for women, seniors and juniors, so all golfers can compete against players of similar abilities.

The Annual Golf Banquet will be on Sunday, August 11th at Lake Naomi Clubhouse with a cash bar starting at 6:00 PM and dinner starting at 7:00 PM. The Match Play finals will be held on Sunday, August 18th. All golf members are welcome to come out and watch this exciting tournament final. The Labor Day Bloody Mary will be held on Sunday, September 1st. These events are enjoyable and a great way to make new friends.

Aquascaping The 2012 Pilot Aquascaping project was a success and Allied Biological was contracted to continue the program in 2013. In June, Allied Biological along with volunteers from the Lakes Committee planted over 700 native emergent and sub-emergent plants in Lake Naomi around Comfort and Snake Island. The plants and are fenced in with green plastic fencing for their protection.

Native emergent and sub-emergent plant communities provide numerous benefits to the overall ecology of our lake. All plants were Northeastern ecotypes obtained from a local commercial grower. The plots are surveyed several times a year and many juvenile fish were observed within the planted colonies. The Lake Naomi Club has received a grant for $7,800 through the Pennsylvania Lake Management Society to expand the program in 2013.

Fishing Guideline Reminders All fisherpersons must wear their current Membership ID along with their Pennsylvania Fishing License (required for any person fishing over the age of 16). The Lakes Committee encourages LIVE RELEASE of all trout. All bass and walleye must be live released. Please take special care to not over tire, squeeze or injure the fish. If a fish is deeply hooked, simply cut your line close to the fish’s mouth. Remember practicing catch ca and release not only increases reproduction, but bu allows for sport another day. One last note – the th lakes and stream throughout the Community are shared sh by fellow Members for various recreational activities. ac Cleaning up your fishing site thoroughly is essential as fishing litter like line and hooks can be b dangerous to other Members, pets and our wildlife. li For that reason Members are not permitted to fish (either on shore or by boat) within 25 feet of any an of the Club’s beaches.

IImportant t tB Boating ti and dL Lake k R Reminders The Club Beach Safety Boat Operators wish to remind Members of some important Lake Safety Guidelines. *All watercraft (including paddleboards) must be equipped with an approved wearable flotation device for EVERY person on board with an “audible device” such as a whistle, to signal for help if needed. *LNC strongly recommends all Members wear lifejackets to be prepared for the unexpected. All boaters MUST wear their lifejackets when the yellow “Lifejacket Required” flag is being flown from the Flag Pole on the peninsula at Club Beach. *Children age 12 and under must wear lifejackets at all times. *Boaters and fisherpersons must maintain a safe distance (never closer than 25 feet) from all other boats, beaches, marinas and swimming areas. *Swimming from watercraft is strongly discouraged. Boats get away from swimmers much easier than people think and swimmers quickly become exhausted trying to catch them. DO NOT DIVE OR JUMP off watercraft as hidden rocks and stumps can cause very serious injury.

Swimming Across the Lake

Swimming in the Lake in areas other than the beaches is only permitted if closely accompanied by an attending boat equipped with a wearable flotation device for both the boater and the swimmer. The boater and swimmer must also be equipped with a “mechanical device” to make a sound signal audible for at least one-half mile (like a whistle) to signal for help if the swimmer were to tire, cramp or need assistance for any other reason.

The Sailing Office must be contacted (646-LAKE) in advance to permit Lake Swimming and has the authority to deny lake swimming during times of heavy boating usage or with severe weather pending.

If you ever hear a whistle on the lake from shore or see something you think is concerning, please do not hesitate to contact the Gatehouse (646-2550) to report what you see and hear. The Gatehouse can easily contact our Club Beach Supervisor and Safety Boat Operators by radio.

The Safety Boat Operators have a very large area of water to cover as well as responsibilities that include running Sailing Regattas and assisting with Instructional Programs.

They are there to help you and ask you to follow these listed guidelines to help make our waters a safe place to recreate.

Also on the horizon is our second Yoga Retreat. From September 27th through 29th both Shannon Sodano and Julie Wiegand will be leading participants in relaxation and yoga activities. You can choose to sign up for just Saturday or the entire weekend. We will kick off with a wine and cheese reception on Friday evening and end early afternoon on Sunday. Lake Naomi Club Q & A Why are there two orange cones blocking two parking spaces in front of the LNCH loading dock?

The Club must block these two spaces off on the day the garbage is scheduled for pick-up. If this area is blocked then the garbage truck cannot get to the LNCH dumpster.

The contractor will not return until the next scheduled pick-up thus creating an overflow of garbage.

Please avoid these spaces when the orange cones are out.

What is the difference between the Board of Governors, the Committees and the Board of Trustees?

The Committees typically deal with a very specific area of the Club’s operation (i.e. Golf, Clubhouse, Finance, etc.). The Committees discuss matters that deal with their area of the operation and then make recommendations to the Board of Governors (BOG).

The BOG is comprised of Committee Chairs as well as At-Large M Members and numbers approxim m imately twenty-five. The BOG iss an Advisory Board that makes ree recommendations to the Board of T Trustees (BOT). The BOT is the se seven Member Board that has the ul ultimate financial, legal and fiduci ciary responsibility for the Club’s as assets and operations.

The other night I was told that it T was past the time when my 7 yr old w was able to use the Wi-Fi Lounge w aat Club Beach, can you clarify the ppurpose pu u and hours of this lounge?

The T h Boat House Lounge was aadded to address two major sugggestions for the membership. The first was a place where teens could m meet and gather to build relationships. The second suggestion sh was to provide a quiet spot in w the mornings and afternoons so th Members could take a break from M the sun check their emails and/ th oor get a little work done. With this in mind the lounge is excluth sive to 14-18 yrs olds after si 77:00 PM so it can become a tteen e lounge without adults aand n young kids hanging out.

Before 5:00pm the Club asks B tthat h kids under the age of 14 aare r supervised to help mainttain a the quiet work space. To meet the needs of the younger m Members additional seating M aand n more activities have been aadded d to the game room.
