One of goals outlined in the Club’s Horizon Plan is - to identify a cost effective long range solution to the increasing problem of finding sufficient housing for our international staff and college interns. We are very pleased to announce that we have found a property that will help meet our growing housing demand and save the Club money in the annual Operations Budget. We have reached a tentative agreement with ESSA Bank on a foreclosed property consisting of a home and 1.62 acres of land at 155 Route 423 (just three properties north of Wee-One’s Daycare). The cost of the home is $225,000 with an additional $75,000 budgeted for closing costs, permits, and renovations bringing the total to $300,000. When renovated, the home will provide living quarters for up to 12 seasonal staff members. The Club currently rents nine homes in the surrounding community and neighborhoods to house Culinary Interns, Golf Interns, Recreation Interns, along with Food and Beverage Staff. The Club forecasts the need for staff housing to continue to grow as the competition for seasonal staff is on the rise and the supply of local employees declines. With the opening of the large indoor water park resorts and casino, all the local food and beverage staff and lifeguards are enjoying full time year round job opportunities. The Club needs to address these issues sooner as opposed to later. One of the ways to address this is to bring in college students from other states who are seeking summer employment but this would mean that the Club would need to provide additional housing. The Club still has an advantage over the other communities in that our Members’ children and grandchildren who work for the Club have a vested interest in the Club. We will always offer employment opportunities to our young Members who are qualified to work. The Board of Governors and the Board of Trustees have recently passed a motion to purchase this property with the approval of the Membership at large. As always, there will be detailed communications, informational coffees and a presentation at the Annual Membership Meeting on Saturday, August 13. The Boards and Management Team understand the Membership has been hit with many votes over the last few years which is due to the Club’s governing bylaws dictating that any project over $200,000 must be voted on by the Membership. This project will save the Club money in the operations budget for many years. A full financial plan will be presented in the mailings and community publications. Please if you have any questions prior to the mailing contact GM Robert Jones at rjones@lakenaomiclub.com. Continue the tradition of high Member participation and have your voice heard in this important vote!

End of Season Celebration with a Big Bang Join us at Club Beach for the End of Season Celebration on Saturday, September 3. At 3:00 PM the “Anything that Floats” Boat Race will begin just outside the swimming area. Participants please see the detailed article listed on page two. At 5:00 PM the Recreation Team will be on hand leading the young Members in several fun activities. For the music lovers Ostrich Hat will be performing on the beach from 6:30 to 10:00 PM. The evening will be enhanced with the now very popular Floating Fire which will be lit at 8:00 PM. The Boathouse Cafe and Ice Cream Parlor will be open from 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM. Added this year is a spectacular Fireworks Display that is planned to start at dusk which is around 8:30 PM. So find your favorite spot because the fireworks display over Lake Naomi is something you don’t want to miss. The fireworks will be launched from Snake Island so Members will be able to see the display from all areas. Please remember to abide by the set perimeters for both the fireworks area and around the floating fire. Also, please bring your Membership badges because our team will be checking.

Stormy Weather

House Checking Service Have you ever worried about your home in Lake Naomi or Timber Trails while you were away from the Community for any length of time? Here is your peace of mind: Beginning on October 1st for as little as $1.00 a day you can have a Member of the Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Ranger Staff check the exterior of your home. Other services such as interior checks, heat adjustment and alarm response are also available for an additional fee. Detailed information on the 2016-2017 Optional House Checking Program is available at the Community Center, Administrative Office or online at www.LakeNaomiClub.com under the Online Office.

Phase Two is Underway After a slight delay, we have all necessary permits in hand. The Horizon Plan Phase Two, the renovation of the Community Center, is moving forward! The construction company, Bracy Construction, has begun to work on the Pool and Locker Room portions of the project, with remaining portions scheduled to begin after Labor Day. Even with the delayed start Bracy is confident that they will be able to get back on schedule and we will have a new pool, locker rooms, and fitness center by mid-December and the whole project completed by end of January. Check on the Lake Naomi Club Facebook page for periodic updates of this phase.

*Boating, swimming and sailing in stormy weather is extremely dangerous! Please pay attention to the weather. All watercraft must be brought to shore as soon as the first signs of storms begin to appear. Dark clouds and wind are signs you need to head for shore immediately. Please do not wait until thunder is heard, because by then lightning is often in the area as well. It is much safer to be proactive when it looks like a storm is “brewing”.

The Timber Trails Grill, staffed by an international and local team, provides a comfortable dining experience with no reservations required daily for lunch and dinner. The team at the Grill is always prepared to gladly welcome in members, share weekly specials, and even recently helped to make the Luau a great success! The Timber Trails Grill is open from 11 AM until 9 PM, with the bar open until 10 PM, every day of the week except Mondays. These hours leave plenty of time for members and guests to stop in for lunch, dinner, or drinks over some appetizers between a tennis match or swim in the pool. The Grill offers both indoor, air-conditioned seating as well as a comfortable, outdoor scenic deck. Each week, the Timber Trails Grill offers a variety of weekly specials. Back by popular demand, Timber Trails Grill will welcome back our “RJ Lobster Roll” along with a few other surprises. Recently, in addition to the normal lunch and dinner service, the Timber Trails Grill was involved with the Annual Luau. The night turned out to be a great success with entertainment provided by a DJ. The fun of dancing, chatting, and drinking was accompanied by a creative and delicious meal of authentic Luau foods such as; pork tenderloin, chicken, and shrimp. If you have not been by the Timber Trails Grill yet or still haven't picked a menu favorite, be sure to stop in for lunch or dinner and meet our team. If you are now a Timber Trails Grill regular, we look forward to seeing you again. Thank you for your help in making the Timber Trails Grill the success it has been and we look forward to continuing to make improvements for the future of the Grill. Adult Luau at TTCH

Tennis in Full Swing at Lake Naomi and Timber Trails Since the start of the 2016 summer season, the tennis teaching staff has been very busy. Whether they have been conducting a Cardio Tennis session with members running through sport ladders, or instructing junior players on the fundamentals of the game, or giving a private lesson on “How to hit a backhand like Novak Djokovic”, these professionals have hardly had time to catch their breath. We all thank the tennis memsi bership for their support. be Tournament update: When you receive this newsletter, winners of the men an and women’s will have been decided. Their finals were held on July 17. Our yo youngsters start their match plays on July 23 thru July 25, the adult doubles championships will be held July 30-31 and the mixed doubles event concludes ch our tournament season, on August 13-14. ou Since this is the competitive part of the summer, here is a tip for our tournament players: Prior to the start of your match, visit the backboard and alternate m hitting forehands and backhands. Align yourself with the court 13 baseline behi fore you start hitting. Next, proceed to the middle of the service box on court 13 fo and practice your volleys. Lastly, hit some medium paced serve to loosen your an serving muscles, and stay positive with yourself during the match. se Tip for everyone else: The backboard is also good for you! Do not try to hit hard. Find a nice medium swing to groove your stroke. A good drill is to imagine the ball har another foot and a half line above the present line on the backboard. Try to hit into that zone. Two or three practice sessions per week of 15 minutes will help you become a more consistent player. Did you know the State of PA considers paddleboards watercraft which means they are subject to the same regulations? That translates to paddleboards needing to be registered and stickered in the same manner as all other watercraft at LNC. Inflatable rafts are only permitted off shore if US Coastguard approved, made of durable, reinforced fabric and have at least two buoyancy chambers. They too must be registered in order to be uused as watercraft in the lake. Floating water trampolines are only permitted at private beaches if secured to a private dock and are not ppermitted in the middle of the lake. Inflatable “Lily Pad” or other inflatable rafts must also remain at private bbeaches or may be used at amenity bbeaches when approved and monitored by lifeguards. 9

Time is running out for you to enter your pictures for the 2017 Annual Calendar. lendar If you want your picture to be considered for the 2017 annual calendar, we’ll need the picture or digital file by September 15, 2016. After the 2017 calendar is developed, Members will have the opportunity to vote for their four favorite calendar pictures. Each winner will be awarded 50 Club Dollars. We will be showing off some of the entries in future Reflections and on the website. Pictures that are submitted become the property of Lake Naomi Club and may be used in future promotions including the Summer Activities Calendar. Digital file size does make a difference when using a picture for print. Many pictures that were submitted in the past were too small. For a picture to be a full calendar page the file size needs to be 3,000 x 2,200 pixels. It is important to submit the original file, do not downsize the picture, many editing programs ask to downsize the picture before sending. Also most of the smart phones do produce pictures large enough to be used but again remember to send the original file. You can upload your pictures in the Online Office of the Members Section of www.LakeNaomiClub.com or send them directly to admin@lakenaomiclub.com. 11

Meet Me at the Lodge What a whirlwind of a summer so far! I hope that you are all finding time to swim in the pool, relax on the beach, spend time with family and friends and stop by the Lodge for some of Chef Melanie’s amazing dessert creations. The pastry case has new ne items every other day or so and it’s making my head he spin just trying to learn all the descriptions. So far fa I think my favorite has been the Strawberry Lemonade Towers, what about you? on There are plenty more activities to join in here at the Lodge as well…in August we will have Live Music every Friday night from 7:00 to 9:00, Poke A M Nose Pottery and Creative Canvas Studio will be here N for fo Wine and Design nights and maybe, just maybe Mother Nature will start cooperating so that we can M actually show a Movie on the Lawn. Upcoming feaac tures will include Pet Sematary, Mama Mia, the Birdcage and Forrest Gump. When you come over to the Lodge, you may want to consider bringing along a new stuffed animal. We are helping a local Girl Scout, Nicole Schafer from Cadette Troop 50705, earn her Silver Award with an initiative called Cuddles for Kids. This program will provide our local Pocono Mountain Regional police officers with stuffed animals to give to children in frightening situations like car accidents or domestic violence situations. You’ll find a drop box right next to the pastry case.

Rules of the Road Walking and bike riding are two of the more popular activities that people enjoy doing in Lake Naomi – Timber Trails. With the amount of traffic on Lake Naomi – Timber Trails roads and the number of walkers and bikers, here are a few safety tips. 1.The Speed limit on the roads in the Timber Trails Community is 25 miles per hour. Speed is monitored by the Patrol Rangers using radar. 2.In Lake Naomi, the speed limit is 25 mph unless otherwise posted. Speed enforcement details are conducted regularly by Pocono Mountain Regional Police using state of the art speed detection technology. 3.When walking, always walk on the left side of the road – facing traffic. 4.Bike riders are to ride on the right side of the road – with traffic. 5.When traffic approaches, walkers and cyclists are to move to the side of the road and walk or ride single file. 6.Make use of bike/pedestrian paths whenever possible! 7.Bike helmets are encouraged for all bike riders,, Pennsylvania y State law requires helmets for all children under d the der age of 12 riding bicycles. 8.Drive extra cautiously in the area of Lake Naomi–Timber Trails amenities. 9.When walking or jogging at night, please wear white or reflective clothing. 10.Share the Road. Remember to Drive Like Your Kids Live Here!

Historical Marker Dedication Join us for the special dedication to the historical marker of the Stagecoach Tavern on Saturday, September 3rd at 10 AM. As reported in the Spring 2016 Reflections the Lake Naomi Club is the sponsor of this Historical Marker. The Stagecoach Tavern was once housed on the property across from the Lake NaoDam, the N mi Dam corner of Firehouse Road and Route 423. The sign will be placed on this property and a dedication will be given as the sign is revealed. So mark your calendars so you can join us as we mark a piece of history on its property in such a fitting way. 12

Lake Naomi Club Q & A Can you remind me of what the plan is for the use of the Gateway (the old Icehouse) property? The conclusion from the Gateway Task Force that was formed to make a recommendation for the property was to improve the property’s aesthetics and secure it for possible future use. There was some discussion on adding a “Gateway” type sign to the corner but upon review the current layout of the corner does not lend itself well to a sign. This idea has been tabled until future use is determined. It was also identified that more lake front access would be desirable for any possible use. Since all the necessary environmental studies have been completed it makes sense to do this before the studies expire. Management is currently working on a plan on how best to accomplish this. This purchase has met the intending purpose of securing the borders and due to our not-for profit status, we pay no taxes on it. The only annual expense associated with this property until a future use is determined is in the maintaining of the landscaping. Why are there two orange cones blocking two parking spaces in front of the LNCH loading dock? The Club must block these two spaces off on the day the garbage is scheduled for pick-up. If this area is blocked then the garbage truck cannot get to the LNCH dumpster. The contractor will not return until the next scheduled pick-up thus creating an overflow of garbage. Please avoid these spaces when the orange cones are out. What is the difference between the Board of Governors, the Committees and the Board of Trustees? The Committees typically deal with a very specific area of the Club’s operation (i.e. Golf, Clubhouse, Finance, etc.). The Committees discuss matters that deal with their area of the operation and then make recommendations to the Board of Governors (BOG). The BOG is comprised of Committee Chairs as well as At-Large Members and numbers approximately twenty-five. The BOG is an Advisory Board that makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees (BOT). The BOT is the seven Member Board that has the ultimate financial, legal and fiduciary responsibility for the Club’s assets and operations. The other night I was told that it was past the time when my 7 yr old was able to use the Wi-Fi Lounge at Club Beach. Can you clarify the purpose and hours of this lounge? The Boat House Lounge was added to address two major suggestions for the membership. The first was a place where teens could meet and gather to build relationships. The second suggestion was to provide a quiet spot in the mornings and afternoons so Members could take a break from the sun, check their emails and/or get a little work done. With this in mind the lounge is exclusive to 14-18 yrs olds after 7:00 PM so it can become a teen lounge without adults and young kids hanging out. Before 5:00 PM the Club asks that kids under the age of 14 are supervised to help maintain the quiet work space. To meet the needs of the younger Members additional seating and more activities have been added to the game room.
