Lake Naomi-Timber Trails vs. The Black Bears If you can’t tell that it is really spring by looking at the trees, then just look around at the broken trash bins and the miscellaneous garbage strewn about. The bears have woken up hungry and are taking advantage of any opportunity to binge. Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Litter Patrol has been working hard to find and clean up the spills but quite frankly the job is becoming overwhelming. The bears aren’t going anywhere. They live here same as you do and are telling their friends what a great place this is. The trick is to make LN-TT less desirable to them. That will never happen as long as they have an unending supply of goodies from your castoffs. So, what to do? Secure your garbage. The trash man isn’t coming until Monday morning, in some cases, Tuesday morning. If you are going home on Sunday and leaving your trash behind you need to make sure it is secure and bear proof. If you throw a garbage bag out by the road, you just invited every bear within a mile to dinner. If you are using a metal can with a tight lid inside a well-constructed bear bin, your chances of break in are decreased. If you place your trash in a secure bear proof can inside of a well-constructed bear bin, you are pretty much guaranteed to not have a mess. The PPCA and the TTCA are providing the service of ordering bear proof trash bins at a reduced rate from a company called Bearicuda. The cans are not inexpensive but provide an effective solution to hungry bear. The cans range from $100 for a 32 Gallon twist top to $300 for a Stealth II 64 or 96 Gallon bin on wheels (including shipping). Based on the PPCA and TTCA trash policies, these cans still need to be placed either inside your home (or at least out of sight on the side of your home) or in a bear bin. Before you order, please make sure your bin is large enough to accommodate these cans. Further info and to order bearicuda garbage cans, please contact Association Manager, Wendi Freeman at wfreeman@lakenaomiclub.com. Unfortunately, the problem has gotten so severe that litter patrol cannot keep up. Therefore to improve the situation, bear spill clean ups are now being tracked. If you become a repeat offender and we have to visit your home on more than one occasion, you will receive a warning letter and then a fee will be billed to you to cover the clean-up of your garbage. We all need to work together. Please secure your garbage and help to deter the bears.

2014 Road Maintenance in Lake Naomi The PPCA and the Lake Naomi Club have received confirmation that approximately 30 Lake Naomi Roads will be paved this year by the means of a TAR & CHIP application. The finalized road name list and potential starting and ending dates will be forthcoming as soon as that information is received from Tobyhanna Township. Please watch the Club and PPCA publications along with PPCA eBlasts for information as it becomes available. If you have any questions regarding the Tar & Chip process, please contact Tobyhanna Township at 570-646-1212.

Age of Unaccompanied Minor Safety of the Members is the top priority for the Board of Trustees, the Board of Governors and Management. In recent years concerns have arisen about the number of our young Members being left without adult supervision at the amenities. The amenity staff members and lifeguards are often put in a position to take on a supervisory role of these young Members. The increased number of unaccompanied minors in recent years has created a significant distraction from their other responsibilities at the cost of Members’ safety and satisfaction. Please remember children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a responsible person (16 years of age or older) at all Club Amenities. We appreciate your support in enforcing this safety policy. 6

Night Recreation 2014 Night Recreation is an opportunity for young Members and guests going into the third grade and above to come to the Community Center to meet friends and have fun participating in staff supervised activities. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays the third and fourth graders will sign in upon arrival and be escorted to and from supervised activities while they are at Night Recreation. The fifth graders and above will still have Night Recreation Monday through Friday and will be free to come and go as they please. On Tuesdays and Thursdays only fifth graders and above will be permitted to attend Night Recreation. No children under fifth grade will be allowed to attend on these nights. The Shuttle Bus (Red Route) will run every hour and can pick up or drop off the participants. Recreation staff will be on hand for a variety of games and activities. Night Recreation will be held every week Monday through Friday from June 23rd through August 22nd. The game room, multi-purpose room, mezzanine area, outdoor pavilion, outdoor fields and some activity rooms will be available for participants.

Lake Naomi Tennis is Going GREEN In an effort to reduce waste and protect the pristine nature of our Lake Naomi Community, Lake Naomi Tennis is asking our Members and their Guests to please bring reusable water bottles with them when coming out to play or spectate. Water and ice will be provided as always to fill your reusable bottles, and small cups will be available from the Tennis Café or Pro Shop as needed. In addition, we will happily label, clean and store your personal water bottle in the Café so it is on-hand and ready for your next visit to the courts. Help us help our environment by making this program a success!

Pre-Season Tennis The Lake Naomi Tennis Center is now open for pre-season play. Because the Pro Shop is only open on weekends from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM, questions often arise about how Members can utilize the courts during the times the Pro Shop is closed. Prior to the main summer season, which begins Saturday, June 21st, some of the Lake Naomi Tennis Center courts will be made available for Members to use on a walk-on basis. Members may refer to the posting located on the Pro Shop door to find out which courts are available for play. During these times of walk-on play, the Pro Shop and additional staff services will not be available, with the exception of restrooms which are open anytime the courts are. Members using the courts must record their use in the sign-in binder provided at the Pro Shop door. Guests must also be signed in each time they play. Members must also follow all dress code and court etiquette guidelines listed in the Leisure Service Guide. Members using the courts must be Tennis Members and are reminded that current membership badges are required. Eligible Guests are welcome to play, but Members are asked to abide by the Guest usage policy which states Guests are limited to ten visits at the facility each season.

Recreation Tennis Courts The two hard surface courts located by North Beach are open for the season. Reservation sheets will be hung daily beginning Memorial Day weekend for Members to sign-up for court times. One hour of court time per Membership is permitted per day. All Recreation Court guidelines enforced during the main summer season will also be in place for early season play. The advanced reservation process begins the first day of the main summer season, Saturday, June 21st.

Tennis Committee The Tennis Committee is always looking for ways to make improvements and your feedback is important. Please feel free to contact any Member of the Tennis Committee in person, or you may address them as a whole by placing your comments in the suggestion box located next to the bulletin board at the Lake Naomi Tennis Center. 8

Tennis Season is Right Around the Corner

The 2014 Lake Naomi tennis season is right around the corner. The “kick-off” weekend is May 24th , and it is a great opportunity for all to come to LNC, play some tennis, and further plan for an active, fun summer season. Visit our website – www.mckeetennis.com to learn about, and register for most of our instructional offerings and programs. Your professional tennis staff has many familiar faces returning. Bobby and Richard McKee, Zorica Djuric, Jordan Lawson and Nateesha Hurtt are back for another active season. Joining g the staff this season is Robin Hochguertel, a very accomplished player an and teacher. Robin is a great addition to our staff. Program Highlights Among the many offerings this se season will be our men’s and women’s Member-Guest D Doubles to be held Saturday & Sunday, August 30th and 331st. We encourage you to play in what will hopefully beco come an annual event during Labor Day Weekend. Also this season, we are introducing a series of junior competitions, called the Junior Grand Slam Tourni na nament Series. We want to encourage the juniors to invite their friends up for a weekend weeke and play in one, or all of these tournaments. We also want to encourage friendly competition to help our players grow their tennis games. Invite New Players I encourage all of you who have derived enjoyment from playing the great sport of tennis to invite one new player to try this game. For those who are frequent players, we know the benefits and fun we derive from tennis. When new players come into the game, everyone benefits. We are giving someone a great opportunity to learn and enjoy a sport they can have the rest of their lives, and something the whole family can enjoy. Who knows – you may invite someone who turns into a great partner for you! In addition, when you mentor a junior player, you are doing so much more for them than you may realize. Our childhood experiences stay with us, and when you influence an individual in a positive and fun way, they will be motivated to pass along these experiences to others. Join the Lake Naomi tennis staff and myself in sharing our enjoyment for tennis to others during the 2014 season. See you on the courts, Bobby McKee, Tennis Professional

RC Laser Fleet Summer Races The Lake Naomi Club Sailing Association’s RC Laser Fleet #9 will be offering scored races throughout the summer and a Summer Regatta on August 9th, the weekend of the Junior Regatta. The RC Lasers are patterned after the original Laser: Simple, easy to sail and fast! The wind powered radio controlled hull is a quarter scale model of the original Laser sailboat and uses a two lever remote control to operate the main sheet and tiller. This boat comes right out of the bag and onto the water. With summer coming the RC fleet has listed all their sail dates in the summer calendar. As always your fellow sailors invite you to come join those who already have their boat and try it out yourself. For more information contact Fleet Captain John Whipple at 570-646-7960.

Ladies Sailing Opportunities The Lake Naomi Club Sailing Association has many volunteers willing to help get you started sailing. Call the Sailing Office at 570-646-LAKE in the main summer season to express your interest and we’ll connect you with a volunteer. Ladies of all abilities (even those with no previous sailing skills) can be accommodated. Technique and nd boat handling will be discussed both on and off the water. You do not need a boat to register, egister, you just must be able to swim. If you have a desire to learn how to sail the Club ub will make it happen for you! If you have questions please contact Meredith Sensenig g att tthe he Community Center at 570-646-8585 or email msensenig@lakenaomiclub.com.

Beach Sign-Ins Members are reminded membership badges are required when utilizing beaches. Prior to Summer Patrol Rangers will conduct routine badge checks. In season Members must sign in on the Beach Log with the Lifeguard and also be prepared to show badges to the Beach Van Lifeguard and Rangers throughout the day. Please help assist the Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Staff in ensuring that only Club Members and their eligible Guests are using Club facilities. Your cooperation in carrying your badge is greatly appreciated.

We Want Your Pictures Now that the camera shooting season is about to get into high gear remember the Membership/Marketing Committee would like to see more pictures of Club Members enjoying their favorite Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Amenity. Often Members have the best opportunity to get sensational shots during the events while the staff is busy supervising the activities and thus have limited time to take pictures. So carry your cameras with you and don’t miss that shot! We are always looking for great pictures for Reflections, Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Promotions, the Annual Calendar and the Club’s website. Throughout the next few months submit your photos to Laura Altemose, Communications Manager, at the Administrative Office. After the 2015 calendar is developed, Members will have the opportunity to vote for their four favorite calendar pictures. Each winner will be awarded 50 Club Dollars. We will be showing off some of the entries in future Reflections and on the website. Pictures that are submitted become the property of Lake Naomi Club and may be used in future promotions. If you want your picture to be considered for the 2015 annual calendar, we’ll need the picture or digital file by September 15, 2014. Digital file size does make a difference when using a picture for print. Many pictures that were submitted in the past were too small. For a picture to be a full calendar page the file size needs to be 3,000 x 2,200 pixels. It is important to submit the original file, do not downsize the picture, many editing programs ask to downsize the picture before sending. Also most of the smart phones do produce pictures large enough to be used but again remember to send the original file. You can upload your pictures in the Online Office of the Members Section of www.LakeNaomiClub.com .

Thanks for tonight‛s sunset! This picture was posted on LNC’s Facebook Page by Malerie Yolen-Cohen who is a Travel Blogger for the Huffington Post. Be sure to check out the great article she wrote - The Poconos PA: Soul Satisfying Lake Naomi Escape. The link can be found on LNC’s Facebook Book Page

2014 Sailing Staff The Club is pleased to announce your 2014 Sailing Staff. Toni Dowling (previously Simonik) will be returning and taking full responsibility as the Head Sailing Instructor. She will be assisted by fellow returning instructors Andrew Rohan, Matt Trabold, Tyler McCann, Arianna May, Jack Hoover, Tommy Trabold and Declan Gaylo. We will also be adding some new staff to help when needed so stay tuned!

Register to Sail The Race Committee needs sailors to indicate their intention to race prior to joining in on any of the scheduled races and regattas. When doing so simply sail to the downwind side of the Tiki and hail your information to the Race Committee. You must tell them your full name and boat number and that you’re registering to race. This is the norm for sailboat racing as it is the only way the Race Committee can adequately track all participants involved. It is also customary to inform the Race Committee if you’re leaving the racing before the final finish. The Members who volunteer for Race Committee appreciate your cooperation.

Sail Numbers Required The Lake Naomi Club Sailing Association requires all sailboats participating in any race or regatta to have a number posted on their sail. If you need sail numbers please stop by the Sailing Office located at Club Beach to be assigned an available number and obtain the actual numbers for your sail. While you’re there, feel free to ask the Sailing Staff for pointers on how to properly affix the sailing numbers to your sail if you need assistance. The Sailing Office is open weekends Memorial Weekend through June 15th from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and then seven days a week beginning June 21st. 9

Membership Referral Program Over the years a variety of Referral Programs have been the best source of new property owners and thus new Club Members. The Club is pleased that the four Real Estate Agencies that specialize in the sale of real estate in the Lake Naomi and Timber Trails Community – Century 21 Select Group, Keller Williams Real Estate, Lake Naomi Real Estate and Realty Executives – have all agreed to participate in the “MemberShare” Referral Program. Participation in this program is very easy. First, think of the people you know who enjoy the same high quality leisure lifestyle – your friends, family or colleagues at work. Then, choose the most convenient way for you to introduce them to the Lake Naomi Club. Simply fill out the Referral Registration form online at www.LakeNaomiClub.com or utilize a Referral Registration Card or call the Administrative Office at 570-646-9191. We will be happy to send your referral a membership packet which includes the Lake Naomi Club DVD, LNC brochure, summer activities calendar and a LNC Calendar. When a Member’s Referral purchases property in Lake Naomi or Timber Trails and JOINS THE CLUB, the Member will receive five hundred Club Dollars. These Club Dollars can be utilized toward Membership Fees or can be transferred to a stored value card which can be used at most of the amenities. A great feature of the “MemberShare” Referral Program is that the Referring Member has the option of transferring all or part of the Club Dollars to the New Member. If you need assistance in any way, please do not hesitate to contact the Administrative Office. Support your Club and Community, be sure to refer a Prospective Member today. Remember the Membershare Referral program was expanded to include Temporary Members. When your referral purchases their Temporary Membership, you will be rewarded 25 Club Dollars for each week your referral purchases their Temporary Membership with a maximum of 100 Club Dollars per referral. To qualify for the Club Dollars the person you refer must be totally new to the Lake Naomi Club and the referral card must be turned into the Administrative Office before the temporary membership is purchased. 10

Golf Notes Welcome to the 2014 golf season, it’s going to be a great year! I am very excited to have joined the Lake Naomi Club Family and look forward to meeting each and every one of you. There are a number of exciting things happening at Timber Trails Golf Club this year which will add to your club experience including the unveiling of our new aquatic driving range, the introduction of new Callaway equipment in the Pro Shop, and a slew of new programming for adults and children on the activities calendar. News & Notes: To help kick off the new season, we are holding a “Meet the Pro” event on Friday, May 23rd from 4-6 PM. Please join us at the Timber Trails Pro Shop for a chance to get to know your Pro and to chat with the golf staff while enjoying drinks, hors d'oeuvres and a blowout sale on merchandise. We also have a new Assistant Golf Professional, Rob O’Leary, who has joined the team. Rob hails from Long Pond, PA and is a graduate from the Professional Golfers Career College in Hilton Head, SC. Additionally, Zack Rotz has returned to Timber Trails Golf Club as Golf Shop Manager. We are excited to have both Rob and Zack k on board and they are looking forward to the 2014 season. During this year’s Memorial Day Tournament on Sunday, May 25th there will be an Odyssey Demo Day held at the putting contest. Try out all the new putters and set the benchmark! I will be happy to assist you at the Odyssey Demo Day to help you find the right putter that fits you. Golf Handicap: We have a new GHIN Handicap System in the golf shop where you can easily post your score or you can also utilize www.GHIN.com. Remember it is the player’s responsibility to post their scores after a round of play. It is vitally important to do so allowing for fair play and promoting a club atmosphere. If you have any questions regarding handicapping, please stop by the golf shop and we can answer any of your questions. Friendly Reminders: Bag storage space is limited and it is a first come first serve policy. Additionally, family tees are back so come on out and have a quick and enjoyable round with your family. Golf Tip: It’s been a long winter to say the least so to help knock off some of the rust try practicing your alignment. Often when you come back from a long hiatus your aim is off and you don’t even know it. Most right-handed players tend to aim too far right and left-handed players too far left. An easy and helpful way to check your alignment is to lay a club on the ground against your toes with the butt end facing the target. Back away from the club and see where you were actually pointed vs. the intended target. You don’t have to be on the course to practice your alignment. Just five minutes at the office or in the backyard will really help your mind’s eye and get you ready to fire at the pin! All the best, Tim Wagner, PGA, Head Golf Professional

Boating B oating S Safety aaffety R Reminders eminders The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission frequently patrols Lake Naomi as well as the other lakes and ponds in Lake Naomi – Timber Trails and is authorized to enforce state boating regulations. They are also able to levy fines for violations of Pennsylvania Boating Regulations. A few suggestions for Lake Naomi Club boaters to ensure compliance with the state regulations are as follows: 1. Be sure that your watercraft contains at least one wearable floatation device for each person on board. Seat cushions are not considered wearable. 2. Each boat must have a mechanical device to be used as a sound signal such as a whistle or horn. 3. All rowboats and fishing boats must have a “Capacity Plate” displayed. The capacity plate must list the number of people plus weight and hull I.D. number. No boat is permitted to be loaded beyond its safe carrying capacity. 4. Boats with electric motors must be registered with the state. 11

Lake Naomi Club Q & A Are the pop-up shade tents permitted on the beaches? Personal umbrellas which attach to a beach chair are preferred on beaches rather than large beach umbrellas which often become safety hazards in breezy conditions. Those wishing to use small scale shade apparatuses must first seek approval of the lifeguard who has the authority to refuse use according to daily weather conditions and attendance. Any approved shade structures must be set to the perimeters to avoid both visual and safety obstructions. My neighbor is not a Member of the Club. Can I take my neighbor to the Clubhouse for dinner as my guest? No, Club Guidelines are very clear on this matter. Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Property Owners who choose not to join the Club are not permitted to be guests at any Club Facility or Program. How can I ensure that I get all emergency notices/updates by email? I have signed up for group emails but this category was not listed. When an emergency notice or update is sent out to the Members it is sent to everyone that has an email address listed with the website. There is no need to sign up for emergency notices/updates, however it is important to maintain a current email address with the website. To update or add your email address simply sign in to the Members section of www. LakeNaomiClub.com and click on your Profile found in the upper right hand corner of the website. Need further assistance, contact Communications Manager Laura Altemose at laltemose@lakenaomiclub.com or 570, 646-9191, Ext. 104.
