Phase One Update The Fall weather has proven to be perfect for the beginning of the Phase One construction at the Timber Trails Clubhouse and Timber Trails Golf Center. The contractors have been able to work around the clock on both projects with the goal of getting under roof for the Winter. The Timber Trails Clubhouse has been totally gutted and the framing of the new entrance is completed. The area for the h shuffl h ffle bboard d and d bbocce bball ll courts hhas bbeen cleared l d as well as the area for the pool deck expansion. The Club is very pleased with the progress that the contractors and sub-contractors have made with keeping this project on target. The Golf Center is also moving along. The foundation for the new pro shop is in and the framing will start soon. The new putting green has been recently finished and looks great! The foundation for the pavilion has been started and should be completed soon. As the contractors work hard to move these projects along the Management Team has been working behind the scenes preparing for all the interior equipment and decorations along with operation plans. Both projects are still on track for opening Memorial Day Weekend 2015. Please keep checking the Lake Naomi Club Facebook page for updates.

Holiday Greetings! The arrival of the joyous Holiday Season is a vivid reminder of how quickly time passes. Was it not just yesterday when Members were sitting at the Lake Naomi Pool or Club Beach absorbing the wonderful sun rays, or playing a round of golf or calling for court times? Now the temperatures are declining, the leaves have fallen and the days are getting shorter. All these seasonal changes remind us that the Holiday Season is near. With all of the holiday propaganda, it's easy to lose sight of what is truly important this time of year. What's important varies from Member to Member, but everyone should take a minute to shut out the media, turn off all of your digital devices, and truly reflect on what you are thankful for. Remind yourself how lucky you are, no matter what your circumstances, and share it with the people closest to you. This is also the perfect time to remember our Lake Naomi – Timber Trails family and to say thank you. Thank you to all the Committee Members, Board of Governors and Board of Trustees for the countless hours and the dedication to ensuring that the Members’ Lake Naomi - Timber Trails homes continue to be their favorite retreat. Also thank you to Management and Team Members who strive to ensure that the entire Members’ experiences are top notch. As we say goodbye to 2014 and welcome 2015, may the joy of this holiday season last throughout the year for you and your loved ones.

The Importance of Making Reservations and Cancelling Them Dinner reservations at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse are well advised. In order to accommodate as many Members as possible on Friday and Saturday nights in the Main Dining Room reservations are highly recommended. Reservations assist in the planning and staffing process, ultimately providing a better dining experience. The Clubhouse Team will do their very best to accommodate Members who arrive without a reservation, but please understand you may have to wait for an extended period. If you arrive without a reservation and are asked to wait and see empty tables, please understand those tables have been reserved for Members who called ahead and have not yet arrived. Equally as important, if you have made a reservation and your plans have changed, please call the Clubhouse to cancel your reservation. There have been an increasing number of times where Members don’t arrive for their reservation. Many times the Clubhouse will lose potential customers because the wait will be too long, but then winds up with empty tables due to reservations not being cancelled. It is the goal of the Clubhouse Management Team to have every table filled with satisfied Members each and every evening.

Curbside Cuisine Pickup Program Many Members are taking advantage of the Curbside Cuisine Pickup Program. Chef’s Bistro Menu and our new Italian Style Pizza Menu are available for curb side delivery to your car. The fall and winter hours are 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM Thursday thru Saturday. When placing your order please have your Member number available and the server will take payment with a credit card. Our culinary team is asking for 30 minutes preparation time, but the amount of time can vary due to business in the Clubhouse. So on those nights that you just don’t feel like getting the skillet out or after a long drive to the Poconos, call the Clubhouse and enjoy our culinary creations in the comfort of your home. To place an order call 570-646-2866 and don’t forget to program your cell phone so we can have dinner waiting for you on your next trip to Lake Naomi-Timber Trails. You can view the Curbside Cuisine Menu online at www.LakeNaomiClub.com (remember to click on Members in the right corner) under the Online Office.

Tennis Talk Topic 1) Boomer Tennis, Topic 2) Mental Tennis, and Topic 3) Pickleball. What do the above three topics have in common? It might be that these three topics could become an integral part of our tennis programming for the 2015 season. 1) Boomer Tennis Usually recognized as those players aged 50+, this represents approximately 12% of the 27.8 million tennis players in the United States. I believe the Lake Naomi Club has a representative group in that demographic. So, what does that mean? Answer – we are working on programs which focus on this group. Things begin to happen as we gain wisdom and age. We notice small aches, pains, a decline in our ability to run, react, etc. So, we will design special programs to teach strategies to help with those issues. We are studying programs that have been established in areas across the country, and are looking at our own membership to tailor programs that will be beneficial to those who become involved. Keep an eye out for more information. 2) Mental Tennis Anyone who has been on the tennis court or has been involved in any type of competition knows how important the mental aspect of that sport is to the success of the competitor. Most of us are unsure of how to strengthen the mental elements of our game. We have had some programs addressing that issue, however, we plan on expanding our offerings with regard to mental toughness during the 2015 season. Again, we are in the planning stages right now, so keep an eye out for future information. 3) Pickleball What is Pickleball? Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It is played with a paddle and plastic ball, and is played by juniors and “super seniors”, and can be enjoyed outdoors or indoors on a properly lined court. There are approximately 100,000 players actively playing in all 50 states. Will Pickleball come to the Lake Naomi Club? Perhaps. I invite you to visit the official Pickleball website, take a look, and send me a response as to if you would like to see it introduced during the 2015 season. Email me at rm@mckeetennis.com. The link: http://www.usapa.org. Always striving to provide new opportunities in tennis-related activities for our membership. Bobbie McKee, Tennis Professional

Junior Sailing Program 2014

Construction is moving right along at the golf club. The new putting green looks fantastic and is sure to be a hit for 2015. Winter Golf Tip: practicing indoors over the winter can go a long way in retaining your game leading into 2015. Get in front of the mirror and practice your fundamentals like posture, aim and width of stance. Setting up an indoor miniature golf course is fun and a great way to practice putting. Get creative and try to find different ways to practice, anything helps. I will be in Sarasota, Florida for the winter and will be happy to help any Members who are also in the area. You can e-mail me at Twagnerpga@gmail.com to set up a lesson. Hope everyone has a great holiday season! Tim Wagner, Golf Professional

The Junior Sailing Program was filled to capacity with enthusiastic young Members who participated in lessons twice a week for 6 weeks in the Main Summer Season. A & B Fleet races were held weekly with strong encouragement from both instructors and the Sailing Committee for additional participation in the regular club races and regattas. The end of season was celebrated with a Friday evening Tailgate party and the annual 2 day Junior Regatta which takes place on both Saturday and Sunday. The weekend devoted to our youngest skippers ended with the End of Season Junior Sailing Celebration on Sunday. Sailors and their families gathered in the Logan Steele Community Center Pavilion to recap the summer, honor the season’s high scoring sailors, and receive their awards, stat sheets and mementos. Pizza and cake were served by the Sailing Committee Volunteers and a great time was had by all. Race results and Award recipients are listed on previous page under 2014 Sailing Awards

2014-2015 RC Laser WINTER Sailing Schedule

Todd Moyer

The RC Laser’s Winter schedule is listed below. What is an RC Laser? Radio Controlled Laser Sailboats oats (1/4 scale to regular Lasers) that sail at LNC year round and in the pool with fan powered wind in the winter. On most of the scheduled days, the RC Laser Fleet #9 sailors are running practice starts and races. (That is, no scores are kept.) The races are scheduled on Sundays from 8 AM to 10 AM – which means they sail before pool hours to not interfere with swimmers. Members without boats are always invited to watch and on most days will be encouraged to try out sailing an RC Laser as there is usually an extra boat or one of the regulars will lend and instruct. In March, the annual Winter Regatta will be held. As far as we know, our indoor sailing is the only regular indoor sailing in the world. It is known in Laser sailing circles as the 'World Indoor Sailing Championship'. In fact, it does attract a few of the world's best RC sailors. (There is only room for a small number of boats to race at the same time.) So the Winter Regatta is a really special time for spectators and the one event that boats are not available for others to tryout. The Winter Regatta starts at 7 AM and runs until 11 AM. The sailing days are: November 23rd, December 7th, December 21st, January 11th, January 25th NOTE - January 25th coincides with the Club's Winter Festival and special emphasis is placed on involving spectators with trying out the boats. February 8th, February 22nd, March 8th, March 22nd (see notes below). March 8th is the primary date for the Winter Regatta. March 22nd is the alternative date in case of bad weather. Note that bad weather is generally not a factor for indoor sailing, but bad winter weather could prevent some participants from getting to the Poconos in a timely fashion. Be aware that if regular sailor participation looks to be very low or the pool is closed RC sailing is subject to being canceled. Contact Meredith Sensenig msensenig@lakenaomiclub. com for information on last minute changes in the schedule.

Meet Me at the Lodge The pumpkins have been carved and the rocking chairs have come in off of the porch; both signs that another season is starting. Now is the time for sitting in front of the fire with a hot cocoa or latte and some delicious baked goodies. You’re in luck because the Mountaintop Lodge happens to have all of those and more. We are open every day of the year so don’t hesitate to stop by. If you happen to be here between 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM you can even enjoy a scrumptious lunch… our new lunch menu changes weekly and offers two soups, two salads and two sandwiches. We are packing the calendar with some new activities in December. I really hope that you’ll come join us for one or more and bring a friend!! Although you’ll want to stop by the Lodge or Administrative Office to pick up the full calendar, here’s information about a few. The first can’t miss activity is our Second Annual Christmas Carol Sing Along on Thursday, December 4th, 7:30-9:00 PM at the Lodge. This year we are joined by two of our summer entertainers, Diane and Willie, who will be leading the carols and performing some music of their own as well. We’ll have complimentary beverages like hot chocolate, gluhwein (mulled wine) and coffee along with some treats from the bakery. If you need a creative, cute, edible hostess gift why not come to our Cookie Wreath Class on Wednesday, December 10th at 6:30 PM. We’ll prebake the cookies to save time but, baking assistant Megan will be here to show you how to do a poured icing technique and then you’ll arrange your cookies into a beautiful wreath. Each wreath will have about three dozen cookies on it and the cost per person is $25.00. You must sign up in advance for this class and we will need a minimum of five people signed up. For the kids and the kids at heart our Giant Gingerbread Cookie Decorating will happen again this year Saturday, December 13th and you can choose to attend at either 2:30 PM or 4:00 PM. Seats are limited so once you know which time you’d like please call to reserve a spot. We will have both gingerbread trees and people for you to choose from and they really are giant… a little more than 12” tall! Icing and decorations will be supplied and you’ll get to take your masterpiece home. Cost is $10.00 per gingerbread cookie (sharing is permitted). While we’re talking cookies mark your calendars for our first ever Cookie Exchange Party on Saturday, December 20th from 7:30-9:00. It is very important that you sign up for this event NO LATER than Sunday, December 14th to give everyone enough time. You’ll need to bring at least six cookies for each of the other partiers (will let you know how many are attending by Monday) and the recipe, if you’re willing to share. We’ll enjoy some light munchies along with cocoa and coffee and then you’ll pack up and take home an assortment of cookies. This is going to be fun!! It’s a great night of socializing plus you get to take home several types of cookies while only having to bake one type! Not into baked goodies? Poke-A-Nose Pottery will be joining us on Thursday, December 18th for a Wine and Design Canvas Painting. These events were so popular over the summer and lots of people were talking about doing a winter design. You’ll have your choice of Charlie Brown’s Christmas Tree or a Wreath With Lights. The cost for this event is $35.00 and you’ll take home a completed 16x20 canvas painting that evening. NO EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. These are super simple and you’ll be amazed at the finished project, truly. Guess what? We need you to sign up in advance for this event too. Give us a call at 570-646-6636 to get your name on the list. Wait! We didn’t forget about the kids either. Just about every single “Kids in the Kitchen” event this summer was a sell-out, so we’ve decided to do two over the winter break. Sunday, December 28th from 3:00-3:30 PM is reserved for the little ones (ages 2-6). We’ll be decorating cupcakes to look like reindeer and cookies to look like snowmen. This class is $5.00 per person. For our kid bakers who are 7+ (or younger with adult assistance) come out on Monday, December 29th from 3:00-4:30 PM and we’ll make Mini Cupcake Push Pops. At the end of the class each child will take home 6 push pops and the cost is $10.00. Be sure to grab those calendars because you definitely won’t want to miss out on anything. See you soon at the Lodge! Carolyn Keiper, MTL Hospitality Manager Mark Luethi

2015 Dues Payment Procedure Continuing with the policy instituted in 2013, we will again be mailing the 2015 dues invoice to all Club Members on or about December 15, 2014. Members may submit payment beginning December 15th by mail, in person, via our website, or over the phone. All payments received between December 15th through January 2nd will be recorded as being received on January 2nd. These payments will be held together and drawn at random for assignment of boat/canoe/kayak racks. Payments received beginning January 3rd and after will be considered on a first paid, first assigned basis according to the date received. Club Members are also reminded that the policy of racks being assigned based on the location of their home remains the same: Members making payment through January 31st (including all “early” payments received between December 15th and January 2nd) who are requesting racks in their assigned area get first preference to those racks. Requests from these members for assignments outside of their area will be made beginning February 1st, based on availability of racks at that time. All payments received after January 31st will be assigned on a first paid, first assigned basis, based on availability at that time, to the member’s requested area (without regard to their area of assignment). Please note that no payments received between December 15th and January 2nd will actually be processed until after January 2nd. This means checks will not be cashed nor will credit card payments be processed (EXCEPT payments made on our website which are processed immediately but will still be recorded as being received on January 2nd). We remind all members that early payment gives them the best possible chance for their desired assignment. Please feel free to contact the Administrative Office if you have any questions regarding this information.

Is the Ice Safe for You, Your Friends and Equipment? With winter on its way, the ice fishing season will be upon us. To assure a safe time while ice fishing, you must remember to follow certain precautions. Carelessness is the number one enemy of ice fisherpersons and knowledge is the number one weapon against that enemy. The best equipment is of no value if you are in icy water fighting to escape. Please take the following precautions when ice fishing to assure yourself and others of a good time. Know the ice. When selecting a location, check the ice by chipping it with a sharp object. If ice chips and has a clinking sound, it is good ice. If it crumbles and has a dull sound, it is unsafe. Stickups, piers or any protruding structures cause weak ice. Areas that have or are near currents, springs and aerators are also areas that may have weak ice. Please stay clear of these areas. Two inches of clear blue ice can support one person traveling on foot, three inches can support a group traveling in single file. Four or more inches of ice is considered safe for general use – such as a group of ice fisherpersons. Ice that is four inches thick will hold up to 260 pounds, over six inches is safe for you and your equipment. Cloudy or opaque ice may support less weight, and slush ice on John Marshall a lake is only one-half as strong as clear blue ice. Before venturing out onto the ice, exercise extreme caution – especially during the first ice cover and during the late winter months when rapid changes occur in ice structure. Black ice is clear and has no snow frozen in it. This can be safe but it is difficult to see water holes on a calm day when there are no ripples on the water. It is very slippery and ice creepers for your footwear are a must. It's always a good idea to use the buddy system when ice fishing. In the event that you break through the ice, stay calm and do not panic, put your arms up and lay them on the ice, your clothing will freeze and adhere to the ice. This will keep your body at a level accessible for rescue. Another rescue method is to take two large spikes and tie a leather thong to the head of each spike. Hang this device around your shoulders and slip the spikes in your breast pockets. If you should fall through the ice, grab the spikes to claw your way out of the water. REMEMBER, it is IMPOSSIBLE to crawl out of slippery ice if the water is more than waist deep. When trying to locate fish, do not move more than 10 feet from one hole to a new hole. Fish run in schools and will be feeding on plankton within a certain area. Depth of the ice is also very critical: at the first safe ice, fishing is best in the shallow water areas, as the ice thickens, the fish move into the deeper water areas. 12

Lake Naomi Club Q & A Is the Club moving forward with the Next Steps of the Horizon Plan – Phase Two: Logan Steele Community Center? Yes. Management is working with the original Community Center design team, Kimmel Bogrette Architecture and Dewey Engineering, to finalize the plans as listed in Phase Two of the Horizon Plan, generate an estimated not-to-exceed price, and develop detailed drawings. Phase Two includes expanding the locker rooms, fitness center and aerobics room at the Community Center and develop additional outside space for the Kids Klub programs and the aquatics facilities. Once the plans are completed Management will work with the Long Range Planning Committee, Fitness Committee, Aquatics Committee, Recreation Committee, Board of Governors, and the Board of Trustees and then ultimately with the membership. Watch for more Phase Two information in the Newsletter Weekly Update emails. If you have any questions please contact General Manager Robert Jones at rjones@ lakenaomiclub.com. Will the bicycle-pedestrian paths along Route 423, Blockhouse Road and at the entrance to the Community Center be maintained during the winter months? No. The paths are officially closed from November 15th through April 15th of each year. Members can continue to utilize the path at their own risk during this time period. Members can also utilize the paths at their own risk for cross country skiing. How many days each year is the Community Center open? Three Hundred and forty – eight. The Community Center is only closed for the two week maintenance period in November, on Thanksgiving Day and on December 24th and 25th. With the exception of those seventeen days, the Community Center is open every day of the year. For 2014 the Community Center was closed for eight days since the November shut down only lasted five days. On days when the Community Center closes at 5:00 PM, what time does the half price ($5.00) guest fee go into effect? 1:00 PM
