As you walk the aisles of the show and marvel at the latest in boats and boating accessories, we hope you take the time to meet the dealers and their sales staff. They are the most knowledgable about their products and will help you learn what you need to know to make good decisions.
Boating is an investment in you and your family’s lifestyle. Whether you enjoy your boat and accessories at the Lake of the Ozarks or on a lake near your home, we encourage you to make good decisions when it comes to safety. One misstep can be tragic.
Of course, we encourage you to visit the Lake of the Ozarks whether you buy a new or used boat or not. It’s been named one of the top recreational lakes in the country and is unique because it allows waterfront residential and commercial opportunities.
The Lake has seen tremendous growth in the last decade, especially in the last handful of years. It’s no longer a “seasonal” destination as recent residential and retail growth has broadened the fun things to do. And, if you enjoy eating, the Lake has dozens of great places to eat whether it’s fast food or fine dining. Again, we hope you enjoy the Boat Show. Take your time; ask some questions. You’ll be glad you did.

Once you’ve decided on how much you can spend, you get to dive into the fun part, actually searching for your dream boat. New boat buyers will want to find a dealer for the brand they’re shopping for in their area. Ask around and do some research to find a quality dealer.
New boats come with manufacturer warranties that vary widely in their coverage, so compare them before you buy. Look for multi-year warranties for hull and engines. Find out whether the warranties transfer to subsequent owners, which can add substantial resale value. One advantage of buying from dealers is that they can also take trade-ins, but keep in mind that as with cars, you won’t get top dollar because dealers have to make a profit on reselling your boat. Selling it yourself will usually bring in more money.
Used boat buyers have a couple of choices. Larger boats are often sold by boat brokers, who operate like real-estate agents. Buyers can hire a broker to help them find a boat, and the commission is usually split with the seller’s broker, so there’s no cost to the buyer. Smaller boats can be found online at such sites as eBay and Craigslist, but remember that these offerings carry the risk of fraud. There are many unscrupulous “sellers” who’d like to separate you from your money. Be wary of sellers who insist on using a specific online escrow service — it may not be legit. Ask to see ownership documents to verify that the seller really owns the boat. If the boat isn’t local, hire a marine surveyor in the area, or have someone you trust verify that there really is a boat and that the seller has the title and registration.
Too many complaints to Consumer Protection start with “The seller said that everything worked fine, but when I launched the boat, I found all kinds of problems!” Unless you’re looking at a simple, inexpensive boat, hire your own expert to inspect it.
A condition-and-valuation survey is a snapshot of the condition and value of a boat; think of it as an independent document that speaks for the boat. Marine surveyors will check the condition of AC and DC electrical systems, plumbing and thru-hull fittings, deck hardware, propane and fuel systems, steering and controls, and safety equipment. A proper marine survey will be an in-depth written report that evaluates the boat according to U.S. Coast Guard regulations and to American
Boat & Yacht Council and National Fire Protection Association standards. A knowledgeable surveyor will also know if a specific make has a history of major problems. A survey is a useful tool for buyers to negotiate a price based on what repairs or upgrades the boat needs. Surveys are sometimes required for insurance and financing, but most buyers should get one even if it’s not required — it can easily pay for itself by uncovering potentially expensive repairs, and it gives you a firm value from which to negotiate. Surveys cost from $15 to $25 per foot.
Once you’ve determined that the boat you want is sound, the next step is to complete a sales contract, then pay for the boat. Dealer-
ships and brokers should have their own contracts, but make sure you go over them well. Consumer Protection has had complaints about dealer contracts that had missing or incomplete information, leading to disputes after the sale. If you’re buying from a private party, go to my.boatus.com/consumer to download a sample sales agreement or bill of sale. Fill it out completely, and don’t forget to list the boat’s Hull Identification Number (HIN) and all engine serial numbers. If there’s a trailer involved, don’t forget to list its serial number. Make sure the terms of the sale are spelled out. Is the sale contingent upon a satisfactory survey and/or sea trial? How will your deposit be returned if the sale falls through? Is there a trade-in? For new boats, request a firm delivery date and a list of all
warranties. All contracts should have a statement that the boat is free of all liens and encumbrances. If you’re financing your boat, be prepared to provide personal financial statements and tax returns; boats are considered luxury items, so the process is more akin to buying a house than a car. For more on extended contracts, see “What About Extended Contracts?”
Only a few states require insurance, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need it. Even if your bank or marina doesn’t require your boat to be insured, having it could save you problems if you’re involved in an accident, especially if there are injuries. Usually, homeowner policies won’t cover boats larger than a certain size and greater than about 16 feet in length and worth more than about $3,000, and they rarely have the necessary provisions to cover losses that may occur with a boat, such as fuel-spill liability or wreck removal. The more your boat is worth, the more important insurance becomes to protect yourself from financial loss. Not all policies are created equal; look closely at the policy provisions outlined “Do I Need Boat Insurance?” when you’re deciding which policy to buy.
Now that you’ve had the boat inspected, paid the seller, and are holding the keys, the boat isn’t really yours until the seller signs over title. Not all states require titles. Look over the paperwork carefully and make sure the HIN on the boat matches the title. Most states require trailers to be registered as well, so make sure you have those documents, too. In most states, boats with motors will have to be registered. Larger boats may need to be documented.
• Be sure to go out boating with friends or with a family member who owns a boat and determine whether this is really a recreational activity you want to invest in.
• Take into consideration all of the expenses involved in boating, including insurance, trailering, docking, marina fees, fuel, safety gear, tech items, and so on. Some have said that buying a boat is like pouring money into the water. Know what you are getting into before signing on the dotted line.
• Shop around for a good boat dealer. You want someone with whom you feel comfortable and not a dealer who is just pressuring you to buy.
• Struggling dealerships may offer “must buy now” deals.
• Due to the large expense of buying a boat, many choose to go partners on the purchase. Spell out a contract that explains when and how you will have your share of the vessel before entering into a joint purchase. This way you remain friends instead of fighting over usage, cleaning and the cost of repairs.

• Know your boat and know the rules of the road.
• Take a safe boating course.
• Check your boat for all required safety equipment.
• Consider the size of your boat, the number of passengers and the amount of extra equipment that will be on-board. DON’T OVERLOAD THE BOAT!
• If you will be in a power boat, check your electrical system and fuel system for gas fumes.
• Follow manufacturers suggested procedures BEFORE starting up the engine.
• Wear your life jacket – don’t just carry one on board.
• Leave alcohol behind to increase your safety and decrease your risk.
• Check the weather forecast.
• File a float plan with a member of your family or friend.
• Since most drowning victims had no intention of being in water and since most people drown within 10-30 feet of safety, it is important that you and your family learn to swim well.
• Please remember: Never rely on toys such as inner tubes and water wings to stay afloat.
• Don’t take chances by overestimating your swimming skills.
• Swim only in designated swimming areas.
• Never swim alone.
According to the Center for Disease Control, each year more than 3,400 people drown in the United States. Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental deaths for persons 1-14 years of age and the sixth leading cause for all ages. What is really surprising is that two-thirds of the people who drown never had an intention of being in the water.
Divers. Never dive into lakes and rivers — the results can be tragic. Every year, diving accidents result in thousands of people suffering paralyzing spinal cord injuries and many of them die before they reach the hospital. All too often, hidden dangers lurk beneath the surface of the water, even in shallow water, including current, rocks and debris.
Center for Disease Control statistics show an average of more than 800 children under the age of 15 drown each year. Thousands of others are treated in hospitals for submersion accidents, accidents which leave children with permanent brain damage and respiratory health problems.
Remember, it only takes a few seconds for a small child to wander away. Children have a natural curiosity and attraction to water.
It’s a fact; alcohol and water do not mix. More than half of all the people who are injured in a boating accident had consumed alcohol prior to their accident and 20 percent of them don’t live to tell about it.
Being intoxicated is not necessary for alcohol to be a threat to your safety. Just one beer will impair your balance, vision, judgment and reaction time thus making you a potential danger to yourself and others.
Research shows that four hours of boating, exposure to noise, vibration, sun, glare and wind produces fatigue that makes you act as if you were legally intoxicated.
If you combine alcohol consumption with this boating fatigue condition, it intensifies the effects and increases your accident risk.
So remember, don’t include alcohol in your outing, if you’re planning to have fun in, on, or near the water.
From Warsaw to Lake Ozark and Gravois Mills to Roach, boat ramps around Lake of the Ozarks provide free or modestly-priced public access to beautiful waters and great fishing.
Most of these access ramps have restroom facilities on site and docks for drivers to tie up their boats. All have been permitted by Ameren Missouri, responsible for private and public access permits.
Lake marinas and some resorts also provide access ramps. Charges and public access by way of these ramps vary.
The Missouri Department of Conservation provides details about these facilities by site name. In addition, two online sites provide printable maps for anyone interested in exploring many of the possible access points.

Here are a few tips provided by the Lake of the Ozarks Marine Dealers Association to help you ask the right questions, and things you should consider if you are in the market for a new boat. Even if you already own a boat, there are plenty of services offered by the marinas and dealers at the show that you will want to look into — storage, repair, maintenance, etc. So take advantage of the dealers set up all in one location. The summer season is just a few short months away!
1. Try to know what kind of boat you’re looking for prior to getting to the show. Are you looking to buy a cruiser, tritoon, personal watercraft or high performance?
2. Bring a camera. Document every boat you are interested in and get a sales sheet on it.
3. How you use your boat may determine what type to look at. Will you have lots of people on it? Will you pull inflatables? Do you just like to cove out or plan to spend the night on it?
4. Consider warranties. Some of the best manufacturer warranties are available during boat shows.
5. Do you need storage for it? Many marinas offer wet slip space or even dry dock storage during the off season. Ask about it.
6. What is your budget? You may not need to know the overall price you’re willing to pay, but know what you can afford on a monthly basis.
7. Will you tow your boat? Know what your towing vehicle can handle.
8. Grab a bag at the front door and get as much printed information as you can.
9. Know what accessories you might need. Boat lifts, cover, life jackets, inflatable toys — they can all be found at the boat show.
10. Pick up a show guide at the main entrance. It will have a map of the show so that you can easily find all of the dealers you wish to speak with.
On Jan. 1, 2010, a new state law took effect, requiring dock owners on Missouri lakes to post the closest emergency address for their dock. The goal is faster response times by emergency services to incidents on the water. Emergency address postings on docks will also aid in non-emergency calls for services for lost or disabled boaters.
The new law affects docks on Lake of the Ozarks and all Missouri lakes managed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The law states that “the appropriate ‘911’ address or in the absence of a ‘911’ system, the physical address nearest to the dock by land,” must be posted. It is suggested that the sign be posted so that it is visible when looking at the dock from the water. The Missouri State Highway Patrol recommends a minimum of three inch letters be used when posting addresses on docks. For maximum visibility, the address should be in a color that contrasts with the backing. Reflective paint or material is preferred for the lettering.
If you are unsure of the closest emergency or 911 address for your dock, please contact your local emergency services office or sheriff’s department. Many local sign shops are now printing dock signs that conform to the new law. Owners who wish to make their own signs can purchase reflective lettering at most hardware stores. The Highway Patrol suggests that the posted address include the street number and street name and the zip code, or 911 address and zip code. For convenience, the dock permit number, which in most instances must already be displayed, can be posted alongside the emergency address.
Dock owners at Lake of the Ozarks can see a recommended example for a dock sign at the Ameren UE website: https://www.ameren. com/missouri/residential/lake-of-the-ozarks/ dock-requirements-safety
The posting of emergency addresses on docks will enhance safety on Missouri’s lakes. You can call the Missouri State Highway Patrol with any questions regarding the new law at 573-751-3313.
The Handbook of Missouri Boating Laws and Responsibilities is the official boating handbook developed for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Water Patrol Division. The handbook introduces you to Missouri laws governing boating and provides general information about safe vessel operation. Use this handbook to familiarize yourself with steps to make all your boating outings safe and enjoyable. Remember, safety on Missouri waterways is the responsibility of all boaters.

Missouri waterways have become increasingly busy over the past few decades. Along with the increased boat traffic, the size of motorboats continues to grow, particularly on our larger lakes. Where there are boats, there are boat wakes. Please join the Missouri State Highway Patrol in promoting wake courtesy to minimize the danger to others using our waterways, damage to docks, and erosion to our shorelines. Operating a motorboat at “plowing” speed is necessary at times, but should not be the norm.
• Operate your boat at idle speed, or when you are safely able to do so, operate on plane. Do not continuously plow unless absolutely necessary.
• Boats that cause excessive wakes should always operate in the middle of the lake to allow their boat wake time and distance to lose energy.
• Plowing within cove locations is discouraged, unless safety or water sport activities require you to do so.
• Water sport activities requiring excessive boat wakes should be reserved for areas of our lakes where the danger to boaters, damage to docks, or significant shoreline erosion is limited.
• Cruiser and houseboat owners and operators are a significant and important part of our boating communities, but these boat owners and operators require heightened awareness of the wake they are causing.
• Remember to be courteous. If you were in a small boat attempting to navigate your boat wake, or you owned a dock that has to survive your boat wake, would you be operating in the same manner? Treat other boaters and property owners as you would want to be treated.
• Causing harm to another person or their property with an excessive boat wake may subject you to enforcement action or civil liability.
The great state of Missouri has many beautiful waterways, all of which allow for a wide variety of boating activities. Responsible and courteous boaters help make our waterways safe and enjoyable for everyone’s use.
With multiple generations taking advantage of everything the Lake of the Ozarks has to offer, the Lenzen family shares many fond memories and traditions at their home away from home.
Dan and Ann Lenzen of Des Peres, a suburb of St. Louis, have been visiting the Lake since childhood. Ann said even her grandfather visited the Lake when it was first built, and her family began visiting Wolff Harbor when she was a child. They then rented boat slips at Wheel House and Palisades in the ‘80s. Dan’s parents also had a place at the 19-mile marker in the ‘90s.
Dan and Ann bought their current place at the 5-mile marker to continue making memories of their own in 2016. They say they’re in a great cove with wonderful neighbors.
Their two children — Megan, 24, who graduated from the University of Arkansas and currently lives and works in Atlanta, Ga., and Jack, 23, who is currently getting his Masters in Accounting at Missouri State — have also grown up visiting the lake frequently.
“In the summer, we are at the Lake all the time. Almost every weekend,” Ann said. “We like to stay for long weekends and go back to St. Louis on Monday mornings because Sunday afternoons are so nice at the Lake. Or we try and stay for a week here and there when we can.”
Lenzen Lake visits include water skiing, tubing and finding new places to cove out. They cove out at the 4-mile marker in Powerline Cove and also have friends with places close by, so they often swing by each other’s places to hang out on the dock.
“We have extended family that come with us a lot and we are trying to instill our love of water skiing in our kids as much as we used to love it when we were young,” Ann said.
The Lenzens own a 2019 Sea Ray 310 SLX they purchased from MarineMax in Lake Ozark.
“We love this boat. It really is the perfect day boat for what we do here at the Lake. It fits plenty of people comfortably and can handle the main channel too,” Ann said. It’s hard to say what we like most about the boat. One of our favorite things is the joystick, makes docking so easy. We also like the submersible swim platform, it’s easy to get in and out, and easy for the dog to get back in the boat after swimming. We love the look of our boat, the hard-top with the sunroof, then the extendable shade in the back is awesome on hot summer days.”
The family also makes up games while on the water like an olympic course for all the young cousins consisting of crazy diving contests and a biathlon-type event where they have to swim to something and back before shooting a BB gun at a target.
They also have a WaveRunner, stand-up paddle board and, Dan’s favorite, a dinghy rowboat — along with a Lily Pad,
and a
Unlike some families, the Lenzens continue Lake trips into the off-season, with slight adjustments made to their usual activities. Ann says they try to visit once a month during the winter, often bringing friends for fun weekend getaways that include hiking and going out to dinner. They also enjoy watching their favorite band, The i-Berrys, perform when they visit.
Ann says their family and friends go out to eat often and are always trying new restaurants. Some of their favorites are The 1932 Reserve, JB Hooks, Tap & Grill, Boathouse, Dock Knockers, Casablanca and Shawnee Bluff Winery.
When asked about their favorite memories as a family, Ann said it is hard to pick just one. However, she shared a Lenzen family tradition on the Lake.
“One of the things we like to do every time one of our kids, or nieces and nephews, graduates from any level of schooling, we have them get on the paddle board in their cap and gown and paddle across the front of the dock while “Pomp and Circumstance” plays,” she said. “After that they have to waterski in their cap and gown.”
She added that another great memory is watching fireworks from the boat on the Fourth of July.
“Something about being on the water makes it very special.”
The Lake of the Ozarks is one of the most popular recreational playgrounds in the Midwest and possibly the country. But with that notoriety comes a variety of boating challenges that have prompted one Lake-area Missouri legislator to get involved in finding solutions.
State Rep. Lisa Thomas hosted three town hall meetings in Osage Beach the last year of so devoted to general water safety and boating education issues.
Special guests included members of the US Coast Guard, Missouri State Highway Patrol Water Patrol Division, Ameren Missouri, Lake of the Ozarks Captain’s Association, LO Water Safety Council and the LO Marine Dealers’ Association, along with the Camden County Assessor and Michael Harmison, mayor of Osage Beach.
The meetings were designed to allow public input on identified problems and generate possible solutions.
1. 1. Increased enforcement of current rules/regulations is preferred over new or stricter rules/regulations. It was expressed by attendees that the Water Patrol should give tickets, not warnings. – Consider linking on-water to on-road offenses, especially BUI and DUI. This would heighten people’s awareness of the seriousness of these types of misbehavior, hopefully leading to decreases in both. Multiple states already do this.
2. The Formation of a Lake Watch program would be beneficial. The Lake Watch program would involve property owners and other boaters to identify activities that occur by documentation of video, photos, vessel name and or boat registration. This information would be sent to the MSHP Water Patrol Division for further action.
3. Find ways to better communicate boater education, safety and enforcement with visitors to the Lake. – Mandatory boater education license including performance of boat handling, etiquette and skills.
4. Citizens expressed interest in obtaining clear engineering guidelines for wave breaks, buoys and docks as permitted by Ameren who operates under FERC licensure. Concerns related to the application process, especially for wave breaks and buoys, were discussed at length.
5. Water level drawdowns and their consequences were of concern for many citizens. Annual water level drops on LO occur in the winter to prepare for spring rainfall. This past year the regular drawdown coincided with a freeze of LO and its upstream components. This unexpected weather necessitated a more rapid drawdown than usual to allow generation of additional electricity for customers and thereby maintain the power grid. There was consequently more dock damage than in previous years due to these unusual conditions. As thawing began, some boaters and boating events produced wakes that compounded the damage to already compromised docks and other structures. Dock owners were frustrated with the damage to their property and wondered about reimbursement for repairs/replacement.
6. Land use issues were raised, especially in relation to residential vs. commercial zoning. VRBO and Airbnb rentals were discussed as well as the possibility of building and zoning laws for onthe-water businesses. Other businesses embedded in heavily residential areas were also a topic of conversation. A recognition of the preference for peaceful coexistence between commercial ventures and residential neighborhoods was expressed.
7. No Wake and No Anchor coves remain contentious issues. Applications for these exemptions were discussed, as well as reasons why they may not be issued. Citizens are frequently frustrated by the negative and sometimes dangerous consequences of “coving out” or “party coves” near their docks and residences. Potential solutions included: increased enforcement of current restrictions, moving party coves to State Park areas, using a density formula to decide how many boats/ watercraft can cove-out in any particular location and employing mooring balls for anchoring were discussed.
It was felt that the implementation of the Lake Watch Program had the most support, followed by boater education and licensing. If anyone has an interest in developing the Lake Watch Program or boater education, contact Representative Thomas at Lisa.Thomas@ house.mo.gov or contact the Lake of the Ozarks Water Safety Council at info@lozwatersafetycouncil.com.
The Lake of the Ozarks is a growing resort area with a myriad of activities that promise to make every family member’s vacation a happy memory. For those who plan on spending time on the water, here are some courtesy and safety tips that will ensure everyone a great time.
1. Be aware of those around you. Drive on the right side of the channel or cove. Look before you turn. All boats have the responsibility to take whatever action necessary to avoid a collision or accident.
2. Wear a Coast Guard approved life jacket while water skiing and while operating a personal watercraft. Small children or non-swimmers should wear life jackets at all times anywhere near or on the water.
3. Turn your lights on 30 minutes before sunset.
4. Operate your boat at a safe and prudent speed.
5. Newer boats have a safety cut off switch. Use it.
6. Upon refueling, check your engine compartment for spillage. Use your blower to expel fumes.
7. Get a voluntary inspection of your boat. The Water Patrol and the Coast Guard Auxiliary provides this free of charge.
8. Take a boating safety course. These are available through the Water Patrol, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Power Squadron, and online at www.boated.com. Remember, experience is not always the best teacher.
9. Consideration should be given to equipping your boat with a marine radio or cellular phone.
10. Don’t drink and drive. A designated driver is as important on the water as on the land.
11. Missouri State Water Patrol: 573-751-1000
There are any number of arms or coves scattered along the 93-miles of Lake from dam to dam. Growing in popularity – and no longer a secret to locals – is the Grand Glaize Arm of the Lake which lies beyond the Grand Glaize Bridge. Because much of the shoreline is part of the Missouri State Parks there isn’t nearly as much residential or commercial development. So it’s not as busy.
• The Grand Glaize Arm stretches for several miles back into the State Park. Be careful, though. When you get toward the end it gets shallow and there are numerous stumps. Eventually you’ll reach Public Beach 1 in the State Park. For historical purposes, you’ll pass Anderson Hollow Cove at about the 3.5-mile marker, home to what once was the bawdy but popular Party Cove. Now, it’s just a great place to cove.
• If you have a Lake map, look for Watson Hollow Cove (aka Girl Scout Cove), Red Bud Hollow, Pin Oak Hollow and farther down the Glaize Arm Honey Run Hollow.
• Toward the other end of the lake – toward Bagnell Dam -The Gravois Arm of the Lake at about the 6-mile marker offers not only some great areas to anchor and relax, but several watering holes that double as restaurants.
• Ha Ha Tonka Cove between the 14- and 15-mile maker of the Niangua Arm is popular, but a long way from most waterfront hang-outs on the water. It’s a nice day trip that will take you past Bridal Cove as well. It’s quieter up that way, so enjoy. Just make sure you have a full tank of gas. It primarily serves the boating population in the Camdenton area.
• Windermere Cove at the 7-mile marker of the Niangua can be fun as well.
• These areas are at the outlying points of the Lake because typically they are the less traveled. There are dozens of coves in-between that are suitable for coving out, so it’s best to take some time exploring. As you pass some of the major branches of the Lake just take a side trip or glance down the waterway – if there are boats tied up, that’s the place to go.
Finding a place to drop anchor and cove out at the Lake of the Ozarks can be as challenging as finding a vacant poolside veranda at a tropical resort.
But if you can get the crew out the door before noon and you’re stealthy, there’s a place for you, your boat, your water toys and even your dogs.
The Lake of the Ozarks offers 1,100 miles of shoreline between Bagnell Dam in Lake Ozark and Truman Dam in Warsaw. So, you see, opportunity abounds. The Lake has gotten busier in the last decade and you might have to share a cove, or you might find solace in tying up with a string of boats. There’s enough room for everybody.
Notice, though, that some coves are restricted to no wake and a few don’t allow tie-ups or anchoring. The Missouri State Water Patrol set the areas and enforces the rules. Those coves are clearly marked. Out of respect for the law, other boaters and dock owners –please follow the rules.
• Get out early to ensure you have the best location possible.
• Be courteous of other boaters. Enter the coves below wake speed and motor gently through the conglomeration of boats.
• If you’re on your PWC, again please be courteous of others. Keep it under control until you’re a safe distance from other boaters.
• Take plenty of water to stay hydrated. It can get pretty hot anchored in a cove for several hours.
• And – most importantly – run the blower on your inboard-outboard engine to clear the engine compartment of gas fumes.

Engine cutoff device wear requirements for recreational boat operators are part of the January 1, 2021, passage of the National Defense Authorization Act, which included a U.S. Coast Guard Reauthorization. These devices, commonly referred to as engine cutoff switches (ECOS), are designed to prevent a boat-strike injury if an operator is accidentally ejected overboard while underway.
Engine cutoff devices can be located at the helm of the boat or on the tiller or body of an outboard engine, and typically connect a boat’s operator to the cutoff switch with a lanyard. Some new ECOS device eliminate the lanyard and rely on wireless proximity devices to shut down an engine if the operator goes overboard. Use of these wireless devices, an electronic “fob” worn by the operator that turn off the engine when submerged in water, are also acceptable under the new rule.
Section 8316 of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2021 requires a vessel operator to use ECOS on certain vessels less than 26 feet when traveling on plane or above displacement speed.
Exceptions to the ECOS requirement include if the main helm of the vessel is in an enclosed cabin or the vessel is not operating on plane or at displacement speed. Low-speed activities such as trolling or docking do not require use of an ECOS. The vessel operator is also exempt if the boat’s motor produces less than 115 pounds of static thrust — or about the size of a 3-hp engine.
The new rule applies to all navigable waterways. Current federal law preempts states from enacting or enforcing a law on a subject that is
different from a federal law on the same subject. States also cannot enforce federal law. The National Safe Boating Council notes that the U.S. Coast Guard expects to reach out to the seven states (Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Nevada, New Jersey, and Texas) that currently have some form of ECOS requirement to determine enforcement. In the 43 states without ECOS rules, it’s expected that a new ECOS law violation would be adjudicated in federal court. While boat operators who fail to follow the new requirement could face a $100 civil penalty for the first offense, BoatUS expects the Coast Guard’s initial focus will be education.
Boaters are encouraged to check the U.S. Coast Guard website for additional information on this new use requirement and other safety regulations and recommendations.
“BoatUS supports responsible use of cutoff devices and wants to get the word out to boaters to be aware of this new requirement so they may prepare,” said BoatUS Manager of Government Affairs David Kennedy. “We believe the new requirement allows recreational boaters to operate their vessels in a practical manner while increasing boating safety.”
Kennedy suggests boat operators double check to see that their engine cutoff switch is working and begin the season by getting into a good habit of wearing it.
Information compliments of BoatUS
Too many small powerboat operators leave the lanyard to the engine cutoff switch dangling uselessly unattached to the skipper. A new law should go a long way to remedying that safety hazard.
Some people call them boating toys. Other people call them boating necessities. Regardless, most boaters are always looking for something new, fun and cool for their boat. After all, most of us have an investment in our boats and there are ways to enhance that investment. Check out these ideas compliments of MarineMax.

What do you do with your trash on board? This product makes cleaning the deck a breeze. It’s essentially a mesh bag that holds more than a 20 empty cans, and the bag’s unique design means the cans don’t fly out when running. Plus, it’s washable and reusable. Keep our oceans clean just like how MarineMax and Boston Whaler do by partnering up with Guy Harvery Ocean Foundation.
Go all-natural with a solar cooker that lets you cook a meal with only the sun. And with the pre-installed boat clamp attachment, it’s sea-worthy, too. The best part is that it actually works! The weather doesn’t have to be perfect for it to work either. As long as there is some sun, you can cook a meal even when it is cold, overcast or windy outside.
This is a must-have accessory for anyone who enjoys tubing with the family. This buoy reduces rope spray, absorbs shock, and reduces drag, making the activity much more enjoyable for everyone.
These are THE pliers for the fishing fanatic. Fans say they love the grips on the handles, the quality and thickness of the pliers, the side mounted cutters, and the case.
Measure the wind speed in the palm of your hand. This is helpful when docking or anchoring, and can also give you a better idea of what’s to come later in the day. And at less than $20, it’s a nice backup even if your other gadgets on board have a built-in anemometer.
This synthetic drying towel will never scratch or scuff, leave behind streaks, lint, watermarks or residue, leaving your boat spotless after a good wash. The Better Boat ultra absorbent towel was developed by boaters, for boaters so that you could spend less time cleaning and more time on the water.
Say goodbye to accidental beverage spills! This un-spillable beverage cooler is perfect for the boat. Their innovative SmartGrip technology allows the Can Cooler to stick to any smooth surface. From a lack of cup holders on a rocking boat to wagging dog tails, this product will keep your drink upright, accidentfree, and icy cold.
A marine spotlight is one of the handiest marine accessories to have aboard. It can help you find a navigation aid or landmark in the dark. A spotlight can also help you find things dropped in the water — if the thing floats, or the water is shallow and clear.

The Dock Lifeguard warning system detects hazardous stray electricity on or around your dock and gives off a loud audible alarm and displays a highly visible red LED strobe when hazardous electricity is detected.
Just because your dock has been recently inspected and all the circuits are GFCI’s protected, does not mean you are protected from stray electricity that could sneak on your dock through the safety ground of your dock wiring or through the water from a neighbor’s dock.
It is very important to monitor your dock frame and the water around your dock 24x7 for electricity, as the majority of shock hazards are the result of the dock frame being energized.

ShockIQ can prevent Electric Shock Drowning (ESD) by monitoring your dock frame and water for stray electricity
Stray electricity occurs when electricity escapes its intended circuit
ESD occurs when a person in the water comes in contact with a stray electric current path which causes paralysis, resulting in the victim drowning

After years of traveling to the Lake, John Wyatt and Carla Williams decided to make it their home.
The two moved to Climax Springs from the Kansas City area where they previously had to drive 2.5 hours for Lake trips.
Prior to becoming full-time Lake residents, the couple visited most weekends year-round.
Now, located at the 45-mile marker, the couple is able to take full advantage of the Lake… And that’s exactly what they do.
Although their kids are adults and out of the house, the family continues to enjoy quality time together on the Lake when they come to visit and bring their children. John says their grandchildren visit two or three times a year.
“The kids really just enjoy relaxing and hanging out on the dock,” John said. “They have done all the lake playing for a long time, and now like the lake for a place to get away and chill. Our grandkids would stay in the water sunup to sundown if we let them. They spend all day playing on the dock, using the dive, slide and swimming around. They also like boat rides to Captain Ron’s to play on the beach and helping drive the boat.”
Some of their favorite memories are of coving out with family and friends and days spent relaxing on the dock and in the water. They also enjoy taking boat rides for a meal somewhere on the Lake. Some of their favorite waterfront restaurants are Captain Ron’s, Red Fox, The Fish and Company, Big Dick’s and Boondockz. Off the water, they enjoy dining at Oh Tommy’s, Branding Iron, El Patron’s and JB Hooks.
The family also enjoys visiting Cartwright and Procter Cove on their tritoon. They currently own a Cypress Cay Tritoon purchased from Premier Advantage Marine in Sunrise Beach.
“Based on our usage, the Tritoon is the perfect boat,” John said. “We can fit all our guests usually and it is a nice, smooth, quiet ride to where ever we are going. It allows us to go anywhere we want on the lake and handles the water very well. Although it’s not a speed demon, it has enough power we can get where we are going fairly quickly without everyone bouncing around. The people at Premier Advantage did a good job matching us to the best boat to meet our needs.”
They also own several “lake toys” including a WaveRunner, canoe and paddle boat.
When asked if they had any fun stories of being on the Lake, John said they sometimes get caught in storms while on the water.
“Those seem to be the boat rides everyone remembers and talks about,” he said.
If you have a boat at the Lake of the Ozarks, you have a dock, or at least have access to a dock.
Some a simple, one-well docks that do what they’re designed to do – safely secure your boat or favorite water toy and protect them from the elements. Others are multi-well docks, monsters that handle a fishing boat, a tri-toon, a go-fast boat and a cruiser. Docks are as unique as the boat they protect.
Docks are often more than just an accessory for your boat – they’re an entertainment center. They are part of a personal journey to enjoying not only your boat but all that boating at the Lake offers. From a favorite fishing spot to a major party, docks offer a wide range of possibilities.
CONSIDER THESE WAYS TO ACCESSORIZE YOUR DOCK:
• Sunshades
• Spider netting
• Track system boat covers
• Tiki bars
• Outdoor kitchens
• Entertainment systems
• Wet steps
• Slides
• Underwater dock lights
• Solar dock lighting

Missouri families have long understood that electricity and water don’t mix, but most families don’t realize that electricity from a fresh water dock, a swimming pool light, or even a boat can lead to Electric Shock Drowning.
Electric Shock Drowning, or Dock Shock, causes a swimmer’s muscles to become paralyzed, making it impossible for them to swim. The result is often fatal. And because bystanders don’t usually realize right away that the water is electrified, well-intended rescuers can also be killed.
Here are five real-life situations that have caused Electric Shock Drowning in the last several years in fresh water pools and lakes around the United States. Your Missouri Electric Cooperatives hope that by sharing these specific examples of how dock shock has happened, that your family can stay safer in the water.
Even a small amount of power leakage from a freshwater boat can lead to dangerous swimming conditions. That’s because the energy that leaks from the boat through underwater metals (like the boat’s propeller) will move through the water in an attempt to complete its circuit.
According to Seaworthy Magazine, seven swimmers were injured and four others died several years ago — including Alexandra Anderson, 13, and her brother Brayden Anderson, 8 — in a single weekend in two different and tragic incidents of electricity entering the water from a boat or a dock. Alexandra and Brayden died swimming at Lake of the Ozarks, and the other injuries and fatalities occurred at Cherokee Lake near Knoxville, Tenn., in July 2012.
Another way that electrical current can enter fresh water is through faulty electrical wiring on a dock. In July 2012, Jennifer Lankford, 26, suffered Electric Shock Drowning at Lake of the Ozarks when she touched a dock that officials believe was electrified.
A properly installed Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) can reduce the chances of electric shock near metal docks, but the only way to be entirely safe is to avoid swimming in fresh water near any dock that has electricity running through it.
Metal ladders that are attached to boats or docks can carry electrical current from the boat or dock into the water. Kevin Ritz, founder of the Electric Shock Drowning Association, lost his eight-year-old son when the boy grabbed onto an electrified metal boat ladder in 1999.
15-year-old Carmen Johnson also died of Electric Shock Drowning when an electrified ladder was lowered into the Alabama lake where she was swimming with a friend. When her father lowered the ladder into the water, he didn’t know that electricity from a faulty light switch on their dock would pass
through that metal ladder and into the water.
As Carmen sank, paralyzed, beneath the surface of the water, her dad jumped in to try to pull her up. Her dad was paralyzed, too, but not before he was able to shout to Carmen’s mom to cut the power to the dock. By then, Carmen’s brother had also entered the water to try to help. Thankfully, Carmen’s friend, dad, and brother survived. Tragically, Carmen did not.
Almost any adult swimmer who sees another person drowning nearby will, as a first instinct, jump into the water to try to help. That’s exactly what Carmen Johnson’s dad and brother did, and sadly, it’s exactly what Donna Berger did, too.
Donna was an exceptional swimmer who taught survival swimming to children. When she realized that her 13-yearold son was struggling to swim in a Tennessee lake in early August 2016, she jumped in to help.
She was able to save her son, but the electric shock in the water paralyzed her before she could get out. Donna’s neighbor, Randy Freeney, jumped in to help. Both Donna and Randy were strong swimmers, but both died that day from Electric Shock Drowning.
The director of marina services for Morningstar Marinas on Lake Norman in North Carolina told a local news station that swimmers should think twice before jumping in to help a drowning victim near freshwater boats and docks.
“There’s a phrase that says, ‘Reach, throw or row, but don’t go,’” he says.
In California, another parent — this time a 43-year-old Silicon Valley executive named James Tramel — died of Electric Shock Drowning while trying to save his nine-year-old daughter from drowning in a freshwater swimming pool. A pool light was later identified as the likely source of deadly electrical charge.
When pool lights are wired correctly and where working GFI’s are installed, pool lights are perfectly safe. When those lights are installed incorrectly or are malfunctioning — and especially if no GFI is installed — pool lights can be dangerous.
In June 2016, a Phoenix, Ariz., a father of three died of suspected Electric Shock Drowning while he was changing a light in his family’s pool from inside the pool water.
Deaths like these from Electric Shock Drowning are heartbreaking, but they’re also largely preventable. Your Missouri Electric Cooperatives recommend hiring a professional electrician to do all electrical work in and around your family’s swimming pool and freshwater dock. If you opt to do the electric work in or around your pool yourself, be absolutely sure that all power to the pool or pool deck is shut off before you begin working.
Learn more about electrical safety, and about how Missouri’s Electric Cooperatives work to provide safe, efficient energy to rural Missouri by following us on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.
In order to ensure the electrical safety of your boat dock there are many items such as proper grounding, bonding and ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) that must be properly installed and maintained in good working condition. Proper grounding includes ensuring the grounding system is installed back to the power source at the utility transformer. Many dock owners assume that the ground rod installed near their shoreline disconnect provides for proper grounding. While this ground rod is an important safety feature it does not provide for grounding to the utility transformer which must be present for your circuit breakers to properly function. In order to establish proper grounding, a low resistance electrical path must be maintained back to the utility transformer.
This is completed by ensuring there is a continuous ground wire connecting the dock to the panel box at the house. If there is a break in this connection, at any location, the grounding of your dock is not complete. Ameren Missouri strongly recommends having your grounding system tested by a qualified electrician to ensure you dock does not present a hazard to you, your family or to other lake users.
If you have questions about your docks electrical system you are strongly encouraged to have it inspected by a qualified electrician.
Year-round boating at Lake of the Ozarks is becoming more and more popular as boaters trend toward boats with outboard motors. Unlike inboard-outboard engines, outboard motors do not require winterization. They can be used in any type of weather, but watch out for those chunks of ice!
But with boating in the colder months, be aware of the risks associated with cold water. Remember: Your body temperature is 98.6, and any water temperature less than that could cause a decrease in core body temp and possible danger.
The National Weather Service has this to say:
Cold water can be dangerous.
Warm air doesn’t always mean warm water in lakes, streams or oceans. Fifty-five degree water may not sound very cold, but it can be deadly. Plunging into cold water of any temperature becomes dangerous if you aren’t prepared for what the sudden exposure can do to your body and brain. Warm air temperatures can create a false sense of security for boaters and beach goers, so if you are planning to be on or near the water, arrive knowing the conditions and how to protect yourself.
Cold water drains body heat up to four times faster than cold air. When your body hits cold water “cold shock” can cause dramatic changes in breathing, heart rate and blood pressure. The sudden gasp and rapid breathing alone creates a greater risk of drowning even for confident swimmers in calm waters. In rougher open water this danger increases. Unplanned immersion in cold water can be life-threatening for anyone without protection from the temperatures or a lifejacket to help you stay afloat. When cold shock and hypothermia begin to impact your ability to think and act, lifejackets and floatation can create extra time for help to arrive or for you to get out of danger. Even the most experienced cold water surfers, swimmers or boaters know to prepare for the conditions.
The initial shock of cold water causes involuntary gasping making it difficult to catch your breath and many people hyperventilate, faint and drown before they are able to calm down their breathing.
The longer you are exposed to cold water, the more you lose your ability to move your extremities. If you haven’t been able to get out of the water in 5-15 minutes you need to stop moving. Movement will deplete your energy faster and increase heat loss.
Hypothermia is a condition in which the body loses heat faster than it can produce. Violent shivering develops which may give way to confusion and eventually cardiac arrest or unconsciousness. If you fall in the water, in any season, you need to know cold water survival skills. Many of our nation’s open waters are mountain fed, and water temperatures even in late summer can run low enough to bring on this condition under certain conditions.
1. All boaters should wear a life jacket and dress for the water temperature, not the air temperature. Cold-water immersion causes many boatingrelated fatalities. It follows four stages, starting with cold shock, followed by swimming failure, then hypothermia and finally post-rescue collapse. Most coldwater drowning fatalities are attributed to the first two stages.
2. Don’t discard clothing and dress warmly with wool clothing. Clothing layers provide some warmth that may actually assist you in fighting hypothermia. This includes shoes and hats. A popular myth is that wet clothes will weigh you down in the water and they are actually only heavy when you are out of the water.
3. Wear your life jacket. This helps hold heat into the core areas of your body and enables you to easily put yourself into the HELP position. HELP (Heat Escape Lessening Posture) by drawing limbs into your body; keep armpits and groin areas protected from unnecessary exposure – a lot of heat can be lost from those areas, as well as the head.

Missouri residents are required to provide a valid title to buyers at the time of change in ownership. There are rare instances where someone may purchase a boat, motor and/or trailer with a incorrect title or may move into Missouri from another state that does not require a title. When this occurs the Missouri Department of Revenue requires the boat, motor or trailer to have a serial number inspection performed before application for title or registration can be made.
You may contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop Headquarters nearest you to schedule a time to have your boat, motor or trailer inspected for a proper number and verified that it is not reported as stolen. This service is provided at no cost to the public. An owner, or his/her representative, must present proof that they are the actual owner of the item such as a bill of sale, along with the actual boat, motor or trailer.
The Lake is served by Troop F of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Aqua Pest Solutions (APS) is a local, family-owned, and operated pest control company that specializes in eco-friendly pest control on docks and marinas. Though we started on Lake of the Ozarks, we now service multiple lakes throughout Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma. Our family is passionate about our work and dedicated to providing professional, high-quality pest control while also respecting our local natural resources and the people who enjoy them.
We live on the same lake, we swim in the same water, and we’re walking the same docks as you are, and that’s why it’s important to us to keep our beautiful lake clean from harmful chemicals. We use a formula made of essential oils, making it completely eco-friendly, and also safe for your family and pets. The formula acts as a dehydrant, and is not a poison, but is just as effective as regular pesticides.
Docks are many things for different reasons. They are a place to relax and have fun. A place to enjoy time with family, watch the sunset or cook some BBQ. It is a place to fish or watch a game. Unfortunately, they are also a perfect home for spiders, which impose upon your fun and relaxation. How much time have you spent cleaning up after spiders? Spiders not only take away your valuable lake time, but they can also cause damage and they make your dock look dirty. Though we are not dock detailers, we remove dirt and debris caused by spiders and wasps in order to maintain control. As a result, your dock will get cleaner after each treatment.
We are known for our boat dock spider control service, but we also provide other pest control services for your lake home: Whatever pest control needs your lake property requires, we can handle it.
• Comprehensive Home Pest Management
• Commercial Pest Control - Condo Complexes, Marinas, Parks
• Treat trees for Spider Control
• Lawn Pest Control for Ticks
• Japanese Beetle Protection for your Garden
If you’re ready to take pride in a cleaner dock and kick those spiders to the curb, call us, or visit our website, or check us out on Facebook. We will visit your property and give you a free estimate. Let Aqua Pest Solutions put the fun back into owning your dock and contact us today!
Aqua Pest Solutions is dedicated to protecting your family and making lake time more enjoyable. That’s why we perform thorough inspections and focus on the details during services. We never take shortcuts and take every measure to ensure your family’s safety. Our staff are friendly and always provide excellent customer service. We have the best equipment and use classic techniques to provide comprehensive pest control for your home or dock.
Boat dock spider control is a monthly pest control service for your boat dock or marina. Boat docks are constantly affected by the weather from wind, rain, and heat, so monthly visits are necessary to maintain control. We use eco-friendly products that won’t cause any harm to the lake, fish, family, friends, or pets. We arrive at the dock by boat, which has a high-volume pressure sprayer system that is capable of reaching the tallest dock roofs. We spray everything from the tops of the tubs to the roof, including your ramps, rails, lifts, boats and furniture. Spider webs will be swept and wasp nests will be knocked down. It’s a terrific way to get rid of spiders and make your dock cleaner.
WHAT TRENDS ARE YOU SEEING IN THE INDUSTRY?
Right now, there isn’t many (if any any at all) companies providing the same kind of service as we do. Our boat dock spider service is unique to our company. The are other companies providing boat dock pest control, but if you want the best quality service and the cleanest results, Aqua Pest is your Solution.

Firstmate® is proud to be the #1 choice in remote lift controls. For 20 years, our top priority has always been providing exceptional service and quality products. Starting in satellite communications, our company’s path has made many twists and turns since introducing our initial Firstmate® concept at the 2001 St. Louis Boat Show. We have aided in bringing products to market not only in the marine industry but also in the drive-through industry, trucking industry and hold multiple patents in communications. Throughout all our endeavors, boating has always been our main passion! The invention of the Firstmate® Remote Control System came to be – by accident. Literally. Being boaters on the Mississippi River during their dating years, John and Julie Figura had an upspoken agreement after a day of boating. John cleaned the outside of the boat. Julie cleaned the inside. One day after putting the boat up on the lift, John stepped away. Julie still inside the boat, finished cleaning, decided to jump off the boat onto the dock. Misjudging the distance, Julie ended up falling between the lift and the dock, injuring herself badly. Afterward, during a conversation, Julie said, “If I could have had something inside the boat to lower it by myself, I would have never got hurt.” And the rest is history. John and his team went to work and created a blower box system that was not only safe for boating passengers but easy to use as a second set of hands getting the boat on and off the lift. We strive to make safe, easyto-use, reliable lift controls for all boaters – since we are boaters ourselves.
Bringing our remote lift controls into the next century, we introduced the 1st of its kind virtual key fob, myDockLink™. The remote app allows you to monitor and operate your lift from the comfort of your mobile device. To quote Plato, “Necessity, the Mother of Invention.” Our company’s most valuable asset, has always been our customers and their feedback. We believe the key to success is to ask and listen. Finding out what is important to the end-user has paved the way for many of the great products we sell today. We are blessed to have a great Firstmate® staff and a dedicated dealer network. But most of all, we truly appreciate our Firstmate® customers! Want feedback on our company? Please, ask our customers. They are our best advertisers!
WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHERS?
Quality. Our products are all domestically produced, manufactured, and assembled right here, in the United States of America. We are thankful for our staff of dedicated employees who all have the same goal in mind. They’re encouraged to be inventive; to look for improvements in design for what makes a better product. We strive to keep inventing, producing, and manufacturing to keep America going!
WHAT ARE YOUR MOST POPULAR PRODUCTS?
Our Firstmate® Remote Controls. Firstmate® remote control systems let you operate your lift safely from inside the boat. Our Firstmate® Generation III Pro Remote series is very popular among boaters. Using sensor technology, the Firstmate Pro monitors your lift, detects air leaks while keeping boat and lift out of the water.
WHAT TRENDS ARE YOU SEEING IN THE INDUSTRY?
Mobile app Technology. We live in a world now where we can monitor and operate a plethora of products with just a tap of an app. From garage doors to security systems, to home heating and cooling. The list is endless. So why not add your boat lift to the list of possibilities? Make it a reality with Firstmate® mobile remote, myDockLink™.

Dock Dealers was started in August of 2017 out of pure personal necessity. Our family has been coming to the Lake of the Ozarks since the 1950’s and has had a home on the lake since 1992. In 2017 I decided it was time to upgrade our dock so I started my search for something bigger and better! After investing several months in the search for a pre-owned dock I grew tired of the lack of help or luck in finding one so I decided to build new dock. But the problems didn’t stop there, now I had to sell our current dock, get it moved out in time for the new dock to be delivered, remove my lifts, store them and have them reconfigured and then reinstalled in the new dock. Well this process can be a bit overwhelming especially if you live hours away, so let us step in and help with all these moving parts. Since I personally have been through it before and have helped hundreds of other clients in this process we can help you too! Dock Dealers is a full service dock and lift brokerage company providing our clients the help they need to take the stress of locating a new dock or lift or help them sell their current dock or lift. We provide a platform and audience to advertise your dock or lift then handle the rest from beginning to end! If you or someone you know would like to discuss how we can help you too, please call us and let Dock Dealers go to work for you today!

With the rising cost of construction material, buying preowned is becoming the most viable solution for those that are cost conscious when purchasing docks and lifts. Remember the money saved on purchasing a pre-owned dock or lift can go to buying a bigger boat.
Our attention to detail and willingness to help and assist.
Electricity cannot be seen or heard. Every time someone jumps in the water it is a leap of faith. Dock Lifeguard provides a visual and audible warning if hazardous electricity is on or around their dock. Just because your dock has been recently rewired and inspected does not mean that the water below the dock is safe. Remember your dock is constantly moving and subject to wind and waves that may affect electrical wiring. Every dock owner should take necessary steps to warn others if there is electricity coming from or is around their dock. Electricity will find its easiest source to ground, if you have the best grounded dock around, then that could be your dock. The source of hazardous electricity can be 100’s of yards away from your dock. Think about that, it could be any dock in your cove. Your dock is safe, is your neighbors? Help prevent Electrical Shock Drowning (ESD) with a Dock Lifeguard system.
Our concern for electrical dock safety.
The dock business has exploded over the last two years as record numbers of visitors escaped the city in search of the Lake Life.
The waterfront scene at Lake of the Ozarks has turned docks into much more than a place to park a boat. Docks are now where the family spends time, rain or shine, complete with bars, outdoor kitchens, big-screen TVs, waterslides, dog ramps and more.
That’s where DockWorks comes in. DockWorks is the premier dock company at the Lake, and is a full-service, high-quality, custom-built dock company servicing the Lake of the Ozarks, with more than 30 years combined dock design and construction experience. They have been voted the BEST dock for the lake numerous years.
Owners Mike and Todd Hudson are entering their sixth year of owning DockWorks, after purchasing the decades-old dock builder, as well as Osage Precast, the manufacturer of concrete pads for flooring, and vertically integrating the companies into their two fabrication centers in Kansas City and Sedalia.
From custom designed drawings in the beginning, through construction, all the way to dock pushing and installation, DockWorks controls the entire process, constantly keeping a watchful eye on quality. DockWorks uses only the best quality materials on the market to build their customers’ docks. Keeping the process entirely in-house from start to finish takes a dedicated staff, and Dock Works keeps the crew engaged while building an unsurpassed product.
Dock Works customers can always rest assured the hands building, installing, modifying and servicing their docks are always insured. To ensure staying within deadlines during the recent boom, Dock Works has pre-ordered materials and turned the heat up on production.
“We want to make sure every customer is extremely pleased with their new custom-built dock and the process it takes to accomplish this,” Michael Hudson said. “We do this by making sure we are offering the best products and materials on the market for your dock.”
When it comes to permitting with Ameren, DockWorks does that too. “We handle all your permitting needs so you can focus on the things that matter to you, not the red tape,” Hudson said.
Dock Works builds every size from large commercial docks for condos and marinas to intricately customized residential docks, both large and small.
Life is too short to live with dock envy.

DockGlide was designed by full-time residents Larry and Lisa Steele when their dock was first installed at their home on the 5mm. They quickly realized their need for a better way to secure their boat in its slip, so Larry began designing a system. Thus, DockGlide was born. DockGlide received its patent in 2020, and is manfactured locally and installed by professionals who live at the lake; creating jobs and supporting the local economy. So how does DockGlide work? DockGlide protects your most important assets, your boat and dock. DockGlide has three elements: the glide, the snubber, and the line. Each element works together to reduce wear and tear on your dock, absorb shock, reduce stress on both the boat and dock and position the boat correctly in its slip. For the everchanging water conditions at the Lake, the self-adjusting cleat system DockGlide creates is the perfect solution. DockGlides results and customer reviews continue to speak for themself. Visit DockGlide. com for more information and to order yours today!

After visiting the area numerous times in the 70’s and early 80’s for vacation purposes, Bill and Joyce Robinson decided it was time for a change. In 1984 they left their farming community in Iowa, moved to the Lake of the Ozarks, and purchased Econo-Lift Boat Hoist. The business started in a small garage in Linn Creek, Missouri.
Eventually Econo-Lift outgrew the space and moved to its current location during Memorial Day weekend of 1988. Their son Steve and daughter Diane joined the company in 1986. Currently the company has grown to employ anywhere from 18-25 employees.
Econo-Lift has supported numerous School organizations in the area and given contributions to numerous charities as well, on National and Local levels. They have also donated several lifts to the Water Patrol and the Fire Department. Econo-Lift is extremely thankful for all of their customers and invites you to stop by and take a look anytime!
Econo Lift has been providing quality boatlifts at a fair price. We strive to treat our customers the same way we would expect to be treated if we were buying a boat lift. Let us add you to our Nationwide list of satisfied customers, you’ll be glad you did!
We also offer a rough water kit that minimizes lift movement in your dock to help aid the life and reduce the noise of your lift. Also available is a front mounted lift where attaching to the sides of the boat slip is not possible. From PWC’s to Cruisers, Econo Lift can keep it up for you!
We understand that having a boat is a large investment and the protection of that investment should be taken seriously. Our customers come to us with a lot of questions about boat lift systems while researching, so we have compiled and answered a list of the most common questions. If you have any further questions specific to your situation, contact us for more information!

A boat lift practically pays for itself.
Since 1988 the philosophy at FiberSteel has been to design and build products by innovation instead of imitation at an affordable price. Our price point has always been one of not being the highest or least expensive boatlift but one that offered the best available and innovated product for the dollar spent. Some of the firsts in the industry included a lifetime tank warranty with above the water tank attachments points eliminating tank bands or straps that would rust by using internally molded in stainless steel inserts a design that was developed by the United States Navy. The tanks were engineered for boatlift applications as opposed companies that convert other products to be used as tanks.
FiberSteel was the first company to design PWC lifts with an auxiliary float tank the eliminates the need of a drop chain or cable reducing the stress on the dock structure. Blower systems that use an automatic check valve system for raising and lowering the lift with an American made blower motor and the longest blower warranty in the industry. In addition FiberSteel is the only company that offers a lifetime parts warranty program that includes every part for any reason. Lifts range in size from single PWC lifts through 24,000lb including shallow water lifts up to 12,000lbs. We also offer bunk combinations to lift any style of hull-type.
Other services include A full time service department with experienced service techs that are available to work on all brands and sizes from other manufactures. New and used boatlift sales including brokerage services are available for other manufactures as well.
The best initial warranty program in the business. An available all inclusive lifetime parts warranty program. All steel components located above the water line in most applications. The best value for the dollar spent.

HydroHoist provides boat lifts and ports for any and all waterfront environments. To correctly care for the boat, to provide a convenience for the boater, and to complement rather than complicate the dock structure was the aim of HydroHoist’s inventor – a marina owner and boater himself – and it’s still our aim today. Our staff designs lifts for confident operation; correct and safe support of its craft; and for the minimum effect to the boat dock or mooring environment. Our most popular model hoist, the UltraLift Series is built polyethylene tanks that are highly resistant to impact and low-water damage. Flexing when stressed, the tanks return undamaged to their original shape! All the steel parts are above water -a revolutionary enhancement for the industry- to defy rust, corrosion, and the elements. This protects your boat for years of convenient and carefree storage. Kwik Kar has been cleaning boats at Lake of the Ozarks since 2009. As active members in the lake of the Ozarks marine industry, our menu of services has evolved over the years as the needs of our customers and current boating trends have changed. We realized early on that boats were best categorized according to their unique attributes including length and type of boat. Our current menu is built around the uniqueness of boating at Lake of the Ozarks
Kwik Kar offers services tailored to all boat types and pricing is based on boat length. We price our services by the foot, so you know what to expect prior to our arrival. We offer full details, with and without wax, maintenance washes, and even a pontoon specific cleaning to fit your needs. Convenience is one of the most beneficial part of our services. We offer services to have your boat and dock cleaned prior to your arrival. This enables you to spend your time enjoying the water instead of cleaning up after mother nature.
This season we are proud to continue offering our professional cleaning services FOR your dock. This includes, but is not limited to; roof support beams, dock support poles, concrete dock tiles, ramp, dock & lift boxes, etc... We provide this service via our purpose-built dock cleaning boat with commercial equipment capable of reaching the bottom of dock roofs high above the surface of the dock. An extensive cleaning of your dock is not only vital for dock maintenance and upkeep, but also for ensuring your pest control applications are most effective. By destroying the habitat the spiders and other critters have created over time, it is far easier to keep them away. Kwik Kar cleans your dock to ensure your pest-inhabited areas are clean and free of webs, debris, and general buildup. A clean dock also means your boat(s) will stay cleaner longer.
Kwik Kar has established itself as the premier Dockside Boat Cleaning service provider at Lake of the Ozarks and has developed relationships with many marinas around the lake including Big Thunder, Formula, All About Boats, and MarineMax. We are properly insured and equipped to do the job right the first time. We are dedicated to professionalism and outstanding customer service. Like the rest of our business, you can count on us to perform on time, with quality results. Having a retail location in Osage Beach allows us to answer your questions at any time before, during, and after the service is completed. Give us a call, or stop by our facility today to schedule your next Dockside Boat Cleaning appointment!
Kwik Kar Dockside Boat Cleaning strives for 100% customer satisfaction. From our streamlined scheduling and billing process to the invoice and floating keychain we leave hanging on the steering wheel of each boat we clean, we aim to exceed expectations. We operate our business in a professional manner that our customers have learned they can count on. We also have a brick and mortar facility that is open year-round for our customers to visit anytime they wish to discuss any part of their dockside boat cleaning experience.
Being a Lake of the Ozarks area service company, our most popular services vary depending on the time of year. At the beginning of the season we urge our customers to schedule a full detail and wax service to not only knock off the winter grime, but protect the boat from the brutal Missouri weather over the course of the year. This means waxing the exterior, conditioning and protecting the vinyl seats, as well as getting rid of the buildup that penetrated the carpet over the winter. After the initial cleanup, our customers can maintain that Detail with our maintenance wash services and end the year with a full detail prior to winterization.

With 17 years of project management experience at Lake of the Ozarks, the Otto Construction team will connect with you at the design phase, to fully understand your needs and style. You will have their undivided attention and resources through the process, providing you with an exceptional and professional construction project that you can share with your family for generations.
Larry & Mary Seibolt decided to move forward with Otto Construction on a unique renovation of their existing lake house. Their checklist included full time living, an additional suite, outdoor living space, as well as an expanded double car garage. It was paramount to make the addition look like the design was intentional with the original construction of the home. After the project was completed, this is what Larry had to say about their experience with Otto Construction:
We selected Otto Construction to help us plan, design, and build our lake house renovation project consisting of an existing garage space makeover into a master bedroom/bath, and the addition of a new larger garage. It seemed to be a fairly straight forward project except for the tight construction site with limited access for equipment and a small lay down space for building materials. Otto Construction provided an experienced project manager along with software tools; the construction planning, selection verification, subcontractor scheduling and sequencing kept the project on schedule.
In addition, Otto Construction helped us through a sticky situation that threatened the project with the County side set-back requirements which had changed after the house was built in 2000. Working with Otto Construction, we were able to make some adjustments to the layout that actually gave us a more appealing architectural elevation arrangement that beautifully enhanced the garage addition to the existing lake house appearance. The new project layout also gave us an unexpected opportunity to improve the functionality of the outdoor spaces above the new garage with a tile paver roof system, as well as the side of the lake house with a stained & stamped patio for outdoor living space, providing a protected area during inclement weather for outdoor activities. Needless to say the project was a great success! We are very happy with the Otto Construction performance and the results of our lake house renovation project! We continue to enjoy our lake house with friends and family!
We excel in challenging circumstances. Because Otto Construction self-performs, rather than sub-contracts the labor on our large custom remodels, we give you the advantage of keeping the character of your existing house, while making the added or remodeled space look like it’s always been there.
The latest rage is the outdoor kitchen or dock bar. So much of the time is spent outdoors at Lake of the Ozarks and we have just the products for that application. We use cabinets that can handle the rain, ice & snow, as well as composition solid surface countertop that is highly resistant to stains, scratching, UV fading, water absorption and damage from hot pans. We also equip you with outdoor appliances. No need to move anything inside for the winter, it will all be right where you left it and ready to use when you come back in the spring.

We are seeing a larger number of part time residents become full time residents, opting to make their lake home suitable for full time living.
Ozark Touchless Cover and its sister company, Midwest Touchless Cover, has been committed to providing residents of the Lake of the Ozarks with the strongest, fastest, and most reliable marine covering system on the market since 2006. They have provided covers to hundreds of boat owners who were fed up with dragging their heavy, dusty and dirty factory covers on and off their boat. Manufactured for boaters by boaters, the Touchless Boat Cover continues to pioneer and define the automatic boat cover industry.
New owner John Timmermann is a lifelong boating enthusiast who has been coming to the Lake of the Ozarks since the 70’s. John was searching for a product that would allow him to get on and off the water quickly while protecting his boat from the harsh marine environment. When he discovered the Touchless Boat Cover, he decided to turn his passion for the boating lifestyle into a career and relocated to the Lake of the Ozarks full time. As a former business owner in the automobile industry in Saint Louis, John is committed to bringing his rich experience with sales and service to all of the current and future customers at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Ozark Touchless Cover’s revolutionary product, The Touchless Boat Cover®, is custom designed and handmade right here in America. When the multi-patented product was created in 1998, it emerged as a one of a kind boating solution and quickly transformed the industry. Since its inception, the Touchless Boat Cover® has continued to change lives by allowing people more time on the water with their family and friends. What better way to end a day of boating than covering your boat with the touch of a button!
Along with its sister company, Midwest Touchless Cover, Ozark Touchless Cover is one of the top dealers in the US due to the high demand for covers at the Lake of the Ozarks. Ozark Touchless Cover has a full time crew at the LOTO to take care of estimates, installations, and seldom needed repairs.
Each cover order is a unique custom design. Your boat, boat lift, dock, and/or boathouse, are measured personally on your dock by a factory authorized dealer, then sent to be constructed by our manufacturing team. Our covers use a unique retraction system engineered to provide both convenience and lasting protection to your boating experience. All Touchless Covers feature distinctive qualities that make our covers the most demanded boating accessory for everyone. Our unique frame designs are strong and durable in lake, river, brackish, and ocean waters. All of our covers feature marine grade, UVA protecting “Top Gun” fabric designed for a wide range of geographical climates.
People in this day and age are turning towards more user-friendly, automated products. Gone are the days when boaters had the patience for heavy covers with ropes, snaps, and straps. Our customers want ease and simplicity and now, with the touch of a button, they can access their boats and be out on the water in mere seconds. It’s as simple as a press of a button with our remote controls or phone app system.

Slip Assist is locally owned based at Lake of the Ozarks, designed, tested and built right here in Mid-Missouri. We started with one small idea of trying to solve the problem of how to get a toon into a slip without damaging the boat or the dock regardless of wind, weather and waves.
We are out to Save the Corners!
Slip Assist funnels your square toon into a square slip. Slip Assist helps eliminate corner replacements and dock damage with a nonmarking, shock absorbing design. Now you can enjoy your day on the water knowing docking will be a breeze, even when boating alone.
Slip Assist bolts on to the end of your slip and can fold flat once the toon has been docked. Keep your swim area open and there is no need to worry about permitting for dock or electrical modifications.

WP Controls, LLC designed and patented a new boat lift controller that takes care of many issues experienced by Lake of Ozarks boaters. The owners of WP Controls, LLC are lake people and understand the need for docking safety as well as security and convenience when it comes to your boat and lift. Weekenders and full time residents alike enjoy the much needed fea tures that our lift controller provides. Some of the most used features are the Wi-Fi and bluetooth enabled app available for both Android and Apple products, the wide-angle camera positioned to view the boat and lift, the accuracy of the digital level sensor, auto correction with text notification, programmable receptacles and the programmable positions.
In this day and age it is not common to have products that are made in the USA. WP Controls, LLC wanted to be a part of reversing that trend. They developed the electronic boards, air manifolds, wiring harnesses, 3D printed enclosures and all of the software for the controller, cell phone and website apps all in-house. They have help manufacturing some components on mass scale, but all manufacturers are located in the USA, with several of them being in Missouri. All final assembly happens at our headquarters in Laurie, MO.
The owners of the company are originally from the Lake of the Ozarks and enjoyed Lake Life for many years before leaving the area for college and careers. Their backgrounds include degrees in Electronics, Information Technology and Nursing. They have over 25 years of technical and leadership experience and have held technical and leadership roles at Samsung, Lam Research, Applied Materials, GaSonics International, Dell Computers, Oreilly’s and Tokyo Electron. They have also co-owned and operated several companies that were in Healthcare, Software Development, Insurance, Manufacturing, Housing and Food industries.
It is a great feeling to be able to come back to the lake community and use our life experiences to create great products for other fellow boaters.
• We 3D print our enclosures, so the style and color can be customized.
• Our level sensor is digital and therefore not prone to problems associated with freezing water, air bubbles or debris.
• Our remote is accessed via a Wi-Fi enabled app that can be downloaded on multiple devices without any monthly fees.
• Our products are equally popular due to the ability to customize the style color of each enclosure and each controller has all features we offer.
• Many boaters own multiple boats and lifts and need to be able to operate and monitor each of them remotely.
• Our Wi-Fi app allows boaters to operate multiple lifts from one device.
• There are no key fobs to lose or the need to share if there are multiple owners.
